Diane has also had a successful career in publishing, both as an editor and as an author. She has written over 100 books for children. Diane lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she enjoys trying new recipes and eating in local restaurants.
This is probably one of my favorites in Muldrow’s series of Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book. I’m a Disney fan and owned most of these Little Golden Books when I was kid. The newer ones were on my daughter’s bookshelf when she was little. What I love about these books is that Muldrow pulls some of the best pages from the books and creates a whole new concept. In this book, she gives advice on life as seen through the Disney Little Golden Books. All about love, friendship, self-confidence, adversity, courage and so much more. Really, one of her best!
Disney/Pixar movies+ Little Golden Book illustrations = my childhood
Sometimes even as adults, we need to be reminded of some of the messages that children's books and Disney movies told us as kids. Things like it's okay to make mistakes or that there's always something magical about life. This book features characters from Disney and Pixar movies (both newer and older movies) drawn in the style of the Little Golden Books characters with phrases of things that help remind you of that childlike wonder Disney movies and picture books were good at captivating. All we needed was Tinkerbell sprinkling her pixie dust on the pages :)
Lovely book full of beautiful illustrations from both popular Disney/Pixar films as well as a few of the lesser known ones. Simple story in the traditional Little Golden Book Style...a few words on a page. Book has to be read multiple times to be fully appreciated.
This 96-page Golden Book has a short phrase on each book. This lyrical reading is combined with the fantastic and familiar artwork from Disney/ Pixar favorites like Finding Nemo or The Lion King. I loved this book and it is something to read over and over without boring your children.
The message of this book is timeless as the final pages say, "Are you ready to make your own magic? It's up to you! Soon you’ll see your dreams come true!"Diane Muldrow has written an engaging story. I highly recommend this beautiful book.
I was given this book as a gift for my 28th birthday by my sister. After an already emotional day of missing my grandmother, and receiving other very thoughtful gifts, I read this at the table with my family around me.
This book was perfect for the place I am in my life with my mental health and trying to get things to move forward. Tears rolled down my face as each page resonated with me deeply.
This may sound melodramatic, but some times it takes simple truths and reminders of how great you are and how great life can be to make an impact.
Ummm... What was that? Two minutes to read. Not worth it at all.
Let me preface the following complaint by stating much of the two star rating is from disappointment that this is all Disney. I picked this up at BEA for myself. It was the ONLY book I got signed for myself on the first day. I wasn't expecting Disney. I thought it was the first book, same title, sans the Disney. I was wrong.
I'm not crazy about Disney. I like Disney ok, it just doesn't play a huge part in my day or life, both as an adult and when I was a child.
I figured I would try it anyway and it really didn't inspire. The pictures are all Disney, complete with a distracting two lines each on what Disney work the picture is from, along with the copyright information. Necessary I'm sure, but very distracting from the message the book is trying to convey. It may have been better to have the copyright info at the end on a notes page.
The message of the book is cheesy and schmaltzy and not overly new or interesting. Typical and trite. It's better when you blitz through the pictures and just read the words. The pictures distract and it's easy to forget what the previous page said.
Not a horrible book, but not worth the time it took to get it and read it. At least in my opinion. If you are a Disney fiend, this book will be right up your alley. It just wasn't for me.
This is a lovely and cute little book that would make a sweet gift. The illustrations are filled with nostalgia. I have to say that I prefer the life lessons in her other book.
This book is a narrative that seeks to inspire children to be themselves and make a mark on the world. Using Disney scenes and stories, this book asks children to follow their dreams, make friends, get out of the comfort zone, and inspire others.
I really loved this book, but maybe it's because I really love Disney. This book brought me a sense of nostalgia and longing to be a kid again. Seeing Disney characters used to tell others how to be confident and secure in themselves was really touching to me.
I would probably have this book in any elementary school classroom. I think that many students would love to read this book because they love to watch Disney movies. This book also has countless text-to-text references that students could explore.
This works slightly better than the original Everything I Need To Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book, probably because fairy tales have such obvious life lessons that it was easier for the author to make some reasonable matches between illustrations and inspiration, but large chunks of it are still just generic, cheesy advice.
I very much enjoyed revisiting the artwork in this book. However, the narrative read like one big long run-on sentence. It just felt like the author was trying to squeeze in as much artwork as possible. This is not a bad thing, but just a thought I had while reading it.
Such a cute book! This one is for the Momma.. gives me a list of movies to show my boy one day!
Unfotunately, I couldn't help but to see how little diversity exists in Disney films. They need to make 20+ movies in a row starring POC to help balance the scale.
Read to Oliver again July 2022 - Oliver is 2 years old. He got so excited on The Jungle Book page as that is a movie he requests to watch over and over and over...
I bought this beautiful book for the art because I am a Disney collector. No, it's not a great read. But I don't think it's supposed to be. It's based on a children's book series. It's meant to be read to cheer readers up. And that's what it did for me.
Definitely a cute, little read for any Disney fan. The illustrations are so beautiful that it's okay that the words kind of leave you wanting. So many favorite Disney films tied together - it's fabulous.
This wasn't on my TBR at all, but I saw it in the store and I couldn't resist reading it! It was adorable and inspirational and I nearly bought it just so I could read it over and over.
I am an older Disney kid and one who finds myself continually disappointed with all this new stuff that Disney has been coming out with. There just seems to be too much of trying to please everyone else that the stories are falling through and the main goal is to make more money.
So why did I choose to pick this book up while I was at our Toy Store? First of all since I am still a Disney kid disappointed as I am and second was since I was curious about it. Golden Books were another part of my childhood but most weren't Disney-based.
The writing was very simple and easy to read while having a bit of a poetical ring that wove itself together. As such it adds a bit of the magic that Disney is known for and so to include the Disney illustrations was a genius step.
Most of the little sayings though gave me stop such as: Has your day ever gone from ho-hum to heigh-ho? And then when I got to further reading and there was talks about romancing I was like is this really a book geared towards children? Are we having another Bratz epidemic where the coloring books are telling you what you should do after a long night out even though you are most likely underage?
Otherwise the author did a great job in pulling out clever sayings that either focused on the movie illustration such as: Some days you won't like what you see in the mirror for Snow White and remember who you are. Oft repeated and a bit too positive most definitely yet inspiring all the same.
The illustrations themselves were clearly a bit of a Disney mix and Golden Book so much so that I couldn't even recognize Bolt while if it hadn't been for the copyright information I would have had no clue as to what I was looking at.
All in all I would still point this book out for more mature Disney fans due to some of its content. Cheesy and a bit overrated it will still excite their nostalgia while helping them to remember life and love are both magics that we work with even when we want to give up.
Challenge: Reading Rush July 2020 - Read book completely outside (5). What can I say? Such a nice little book to read right now, sitting on my front porch (on the glider), cloudy day (no relentless sun), possibility of rain (100 days since our last rain), and cooler (only 93 degrees!). A walk down memory lane of the last seven decades with Disney and how to use the light to deal with the dark. Hope to acquire the special edition pack of 12 Disney Golden Books to go with this little gem of wisdom. Adults need this right now to get in touch with the children we once were.
Cute book with great scenes from some of Disney's most popular Little Golden Books... but the messages are all hackneyed, trite encouragements, such as "Be Yourself" and "You Can Do It." Not very insightful, but if you're a Disney fan you may enjoy the little trip down memory lane in the delightful illustrations. Definitely skewed toward early readers, and not particularly amusing for adults, as one may anticipate by its cover photo.
What beautiful "Little Golden Book" Disney and Pixar illustrations! At first, I found the motivational text to be a little cheesy, but upon a second reading - it's actually quite clever and heartfelt. It's a very charming "Little Golden Book" for adults... go ahead and indulge in the sentimentalism.
I love this book. I also love that people keep giving it to me. It is so sweet that so many people know me so well. Yes, I love Disney and I really love Little Golden Books. Each time I receive a copy of this adorable little book, it's like the first time. Then I get to pass it on to someone else to enjoy. I love it.
3.75 stars. This self-help book features many Disney Characters. It discusses hope and creating your magic using strength from within and your environment. Overall, the advice is general but sweet. The book is exactly what I expected when the point of reference was Disney. Nonetheless, it was a great story with picturesque illustrations to match.
This is the third book I've read in this series, and I think it might be my favorite. I love those Disney storybook illustrations, which are a mix of contemporary and vintage. These books don't take very long to read, but they're fun to look at.
I love these adult Little Golden books. As an added bonus, the book was a gift from my daughter as we spent the week at Disney World completing the Glass Slipper Challenge. Great book and fun times!
This is the third in the "Everything I Need to Know..." series. It was nice, but I liked the others better. Still, it has a sweet message and Muldrow does a very nice job tying the Disney movie and the messages together.
Disney brings soo much to us through its characters and their situations.A fun way to learn and be amused and happy at the same time.An awesome book with wonderful positive things all of us need reminding of sometimes.
Featuring slightly less classical material, this 'Little Golden' compilation focuses on Disney only works, featuring old school and modern material in an attempt to address life's many questions with humor and a little extra insight.
I bought this on a whim. The pictures are cute. However, I am confused with how the assortment was picked. There are some movies that get a handful of pages (The Little Mermaid, Alice and Wonderland). I would have preferred there to be even more variety of Disney movies and characters.
