Rate this book
A lost bet. A grumpy lawyer.
A Christmas cooking class with the woman he’s secretly wanted since the day she came to town.

After losing everything in a Ponzi scheme, chef Mia Bianchi trades New York skyscrapers for her grandmother’s log cabin restaurant in Sugarville Grove.

Determined to start fresh, she hosts a holiday cooking class—partly to share her love of food, partly to make friends in her new town.

Logan Hayes doesn’t lose bets… except the one that lands him in Mia’s class.
He’s admired her quietly for months, but now he’s standing beside her at the stove, flour on his shirt, realizing she’s even more irresistible up close.

Each lesson brings more banter, more warmth, and more moments neither of them want to end.
And when they team up to give a struggling family the Christmas they deserve, the grumpy lawyer and the guarded chef find themselves at the center of something bigger than they ever imagined—community, connection, and maybe even love.

A slow-burn, clean and wholesome holiday romance filled with small-town charm, holiday magic, and a love that will warm your heart long after the last page.

Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.

Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.

She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.

Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the
rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.

She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

Tess Thompson once again didn't disappoint me. I like the way she writes, and Savoring Christmas is a new, enjoyable story.

Mia Bianchi came to Sugarville Grove after she lost everything in New York, she opened a cozy italian restaurant out of her cabin on the outskirt of the village. After years, she still didn't fit in, so for this festive season she decided to teach a cooking class.
Logan Hayes lost a bet with his brothers and now he has to take Mia's cooking class: will this be the right occasion to get to know her better?

Mia and Logan are so effortlessly good together, they only did need a little push to begin their acquaintance. They are so kind, and generous, and lovely, perfect for each other. I adored to see their relationship grow meeting after meeting, and I loved how easily the Hayes family took Mia in.
I was happy to see her to open up a little and to get out of your comfort zone, so she found a special group of friends and finally she felt at home.

I recommend to read this book. It has a nice flow and it kept me entertained throughout it, with food for the soul, a mischievous cat, and an adorable dog.

Oh Tess just continues to create stories we fall in love with.

Mia has lost everything and can't fathom anything changing her isolated existence. She steps out of her comfort zone as a way to make friends, but she is sure that the grumpy Logan Hayes is not at all happy to be in her class, that she is scared to teach.

Logan admits he is grumpy, he sees divorce all the time in his law practice and isn't sure he will ever meet anyone. he wants what his parents have, but he is sure his crush wants nothing to do with him.
oh but for his mettling brothers!

This story was wonderful and took a turn I didn't expect before giving us the HEA we wanted. Love it!

Back in Sugarville Grove for the holiday with the Hayes family in Savoring Christmas, the eighth book in the delightfully heartwarming and romantic small-town series created by authors Tess Thompson and Clara Pines. They alternate books and Savoring Christmas is the creation of Thompson. If you’ve read anything written by Thompson, you already know you will love this book. And if you’ve read the previous books in this series, you can’t wait to be immersed, entertained and completely satisfied first page to last.

The Hayes family has a maple syrup farm in Sugarville Grove. There are four brothers and they and their parents are well-liked and well-respected in their little town. And they love it there. In Thompson’s three previous books in the series, Luke, Nolan and Max found their soul mates and now have happy, growing families. Sometimes the brothers were cautious, pining for a while before acting, and “Uncle Logan” is the master at pining from afar. In fact, he’s had a crush on Mia for eighteen months, 2 weeks and 3 days when he finds himself at The Moose on Trivia Night after Thanksgiving and watches his crush with yearning once again. Well aware of his inability to move forward and make his feelings known, his brothers challenge him: if he loses at Trivia Night he has to attend Mia’s cooking class. Of course he loses and there’s no way his brothers will let him save face if he backs down, so it’s off to cooking class he goes. Which is surprisingly a lot more fun than he expected. Being his close to her he’s like a moth to a flame.

Mia’s is a talented chef and her restaurant is elegant and a success, the place to go for that very special evening and delicious meal. But Mia herself is an unknown. Financially shaky, recovering and trying to get her feet under her again after losing everything she had built in New York City, she keeps to herself. She’s friendly but just trying to make ends meet and make a go of her restaurant take all her time, and she hasn’t made many friends. This cooking class may provide the opportunity for her to meet new people.

It's a small class, but everyone has a story to tell, and author Thompson does her usual outstanding job of telling their stories and making us feel close to each of them. And Logan and Mia? There’s a spark there. Actually embers that have been burning (on both sides) for a while, just about ready to burst into flame. But are they ready for commitment and risk? Logan already has his turn as a big-city lawyer in Boston and returned home to Sugarville Grove so he could make a difference. He can’t imagine leaving. Mia felt as if she was driven out of New York, but if she gets the chance to start over there will she take it?

Thompson always masterfully fills her books with lightness and joy and humor, but there are serious topics as well: loss, betrayal, fear. Sugarville Grove feels like such a special place, perfect for healing, as Thompson walks us through the choices not only Logan and Mia have to make but also all those people they’ve become close to in the cooking class. The Christmas setting is a beautiful bonus. Everyone – and I mean everyone – in town celebrates. Families and children are important, decorations are everywhere. And the other bonus: getting a couple of peeks into Clara Pines’ stories and the Lawrence family. Visiting Sugarville Grove again is like going home, the best place to spend the holidays.

I received an advance copy of Savoring Christmas as part of Tess’s Review Crewsters. I loved it and so will you. Read it, read the rest of the series, and read everything else Tess Thompson has written. You won’t be sorry. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

After losing everything in New York from someone she trusted in a Ponzi scheme, Chef Mia Bianchi moved to Sugarville Grove. She lost her confidence and is upset by the loss. She opens a restaurant in her family cabin and is doing well. She’s still not making friends. It’s time for her to put herself out there and make friends. She decides to give a cooking class to anyone who wants to come. Logan Hayes is a lawyer in his hometown of Sugarville Grove. It was time to come home to be with his family. He had missed them. He has a good business there too. Logan thinks that Mia is beautiful and smart. He wants to ask her out but is afraid to. He loses a bet and now he has to take Mia’s cooking class. He’s excited but is a very good cook. It’s a small group of people who all have something to take away from this class. All the characters are great. They all have a sadness about them. They all become a family. At each class the characters all open up about their loss, illness and loneliness. Mia and Logan do too. They become close. They are drawn to each other. The chemistry is hot. Can they finally be honest about their feelings for each other? Can the other characters heal? I was rooting for all of the characters, especially Logan and Mia. They deserve to find their true soulmates. Do they? I didn’t want to put it down. Worth the read. I received this book for my honest review. I give it voluntarily.

Savoring Christmas (Sugarville Grove Book 8)

By: Tess Thompson

5 Stars

This was such a sweet book filled with friendship, healing, food, romance, and pet silliness. It was another great story of little Sugarville Grove and the people that live there. Logan Hayes, the lawyer of the family, has wanted to ask Mia out for a while. Mia owns the small restaurant that has been the place of romance throughout this series. After losing everything in a Ponzi scheme, Mia came to live in the only cabin she had from her family. Now, during this Christmas season, Mia wants to make friends, and deciding to teach a cooking class leads her on her biggest journey yet.

Oh, Sugarville Grove is just magical. I have fallen in love with the people, the small town charm, and the Christmas magic. Mia and Logan are such a magical and extremely cute pair. The animals made this story a little bit sweeter. This story was another in a long line of lovely stories that warm your heart and soul. Giving the reader Christmas Magic all times of the year. I can't wait for more. Tess can bring any story to life, and I am a lifetime fan now and forever more.

Mia Bianchi had been a huge restaurant success in New York until she lost everything in a ponzi scheme, including her own confidence. There were only 2 things she had left, her love for cooking and a small log cabin that had belonged to her grandmother in Sugarville Grove. Over the next few years she started up a restaurant in that log cabin only open a few days a week but she wanted more. So Mia decided to do a cooking class 2 nights a week at the local elementary school. She never imagined it would open her heart again in more ways than one.

Logan Hayes had a huge crush on Mia for years, but never had the courage to do anything about it. Until one night when he lost a bet, the consequences was to take the cooking class that Mia was offering. Which would mean he would get to spend more time with her so was it really that bad? Especially since not only was he learning to cook, he was starting to win her over.

LOVED this book, if you have read some of the previous books you have seen both of these characters and knew that something was going on between the two of them. This is finally their story and it was perfect. This is a nice, short, clean romance that allows you to escape the real world for a little while and be involved in this small town that has everything

Thanks to 1852 Media and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I love the town of Sugarville Grove and all of their residents. Logan and Mia are perfect for each other, but need a push to make the first step. She came to Sugarville Grove after she lost everything and never intended to stay, but there was something about the town that had her staying. Logan's family is a big name in town, and he is home to be closer to his family. He has wanted to ask her out for a while but acts like a teenager anytime he is around her. He doesn't think she likes him, and she feels inadequate for him.

When they start spending time together during her cooking classes, they finally admit that they want to see where things go. I really liked the slow buildup of their relationship and the trouble near the end is believable. Will they be able to make a relationship work if she gets a dream job or will one of them push the other away? Will they be able to overcome misunderstandings? I also look forward to what will happen with one of the other participants in the cooking class.

I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.

I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. This is a clean romance book and part of the Sugarville Grove series. The main characters are Logan and Mia. Logan is a lawyer and Mia is a chef. When things go wrong for Mia she moves to Sugarville Grove to work in her grandmother’s log cabin restaurant. While there she meets Logan. Logan has liked Mia for months and has wanted to ask her out but doesn’t think she will feel the same. Will they give each other a chance and see how things go? Mia wasn’t planning on staying for good. If she gets a job offer somewhere else will she leave Logan and Sugarville behind? I loved reading about Logan and Mia together. I loved reading about Logan and the cooking class. If you know me I love Christmas books so that made this even better. The side characters were great. Even though I have never read any of the books in this series I didn’t feel lost. This book made me think of a Hallmark Christmas movie which I loved. Overall, this was a great book. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

A beautiful, sweet, heartwarming Christmas story. This is a story I didn’t want to put down, as it is with so many Tess Thompson books I read. Mia came to Sugarville Grove after losing everything in New York. She feels like she still doesn’t know anyone after 4 years, so as a chef she decided to offer cooking classes. I loved how the people in the class who were so different became friends and support to each other. Logan had a crush on Mia but was so awkward whenever he tried to talk to Mia. Because he lost trivia to his brothers he has to take the cooking class. This finally gives him the confidence he needs to talk with her. I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow, how they overcame the surprise obstacles the banter and the sweet and swoony HEA. I loved the recipes at the chapter headings, made me want to try them. Suck a great story, I hope you will give it a read, and I’m hoping Reese gets her HEA as well, this is a great series!

Logan is a lawyer who has moved back home and practicing law in Sugarville Grove after realizing life is better when surrounded by family and friends than when he lived in the city. He does have one wish that he is hesitating on for almost two years and that’s to ask Mia out on a date. Mia is a renowned chef who relocated to Sugarville Grove after closing her highly successful restaurant in New York City. She turned her family log cabin into a gourmet Italian restaurant complete with carriage rides to and from the parking lot. When a trivia game causes Logan to take group cooking classes from Mia he is both excited and nervous. What transpires in this story is love, friendship, healing and dreams. It is truly magical to see how each person plays a part in this story. How a simple class of six cooking students become friends that are family. You don’t want to miss this story! Tess Thompson this book is well written and heartfelt! 5+ stars.

A lovely book with the sweet story about Logan Hayes and Mia Bianchi. It is the 8th book in the series taking place in Sugarville Grove. The main characters meet and Logan has his family in Sugarville Grove. Mia Bianchi had to leave her N.Y. life behind her, needing to start over from scratch. Mia starts her cooking classes where she will meet Logan. Those people who have joined the cooking all have their lives and have decided to participate for different personal reasons. It's a nice group of people who become friends and who get together to help those in need. The cooking classes give everyone a purpose and where they learn to cook several different dishes. Delicious Italian inspired food. A nice relaxing read where it definitely makes you want to try the recipes.
I'm really happy to have read this book of life changes and second chances and filled with nice delicious recipes.

Logan Hayes is not single by choice. He has admired popular chef and restaurant owner, Mia, for several years but, despite a successful family law practice in Sugarville Grove, he lacks the courage to foster a relationship with her. Thanks to his brothers’ scheme, he finds himself enrolled in a community cooking class Mia has introduced.
Ms Thompson’s characters demonstrate Christian values in their interactions with others and Mia’s little dog, Cannelloni, plays a somewhat amusing role in her relationship with Logan. A master stroke is the inclusion of the delectable Italian recipes Mia, Logan and their new friends concoct.
However, although it is a cosy, enjoyable and relaxing read, this book lacks the edge and sense of anticipation, as well as a more personal reference to the younger family members, that I have enjoyed in previous titles in this series. This is my view of the review copy I received from the author.

Well, after learning bits and pieces about Mia in the previous books, this story did not disappoint at all. A wonderful book about the possibilities that come about when people choose to be open and vulnerable with one another. To me, Mia is the true heroine in this story, not because she is the main love interest, but because despite her shyness and self doubt, she takes steps to reach out and make friends while supporting a cause that matters to her. And her choice leads others to new friendships and possibilities in their lives as well. Mia and Logan are so sweetly written, the tentative way that they open up to each other. When their central conflict arises, I was so angry with the way Logan handled it, but that's how well written the story is; these characters feel like real people, and as a reader I became involved in the story. This is the eighth book in this series, and I recommend every one.

I have to admit I have been waiting on Logan and Mia’s story since I first started reading the series. These two have been dancing around each other for over a year. Both thinking they weren’t good enough for each other. But when Logan loses a bet to his brothers he has to pay up by attending Mia’s Cooking class. From here the storyline takes us on an heartwarming journey of two who aren’t perfect and have definitely been through their share of trouble in the past, but just might find comfort in each other’s company. But can they possibly find more? This is a wonderful slow-burn romance that this reader fell in love with. I know you will too. I highly recommend grabbing it up asap, you won’t regret it.

The Sugarville Grove series has been a great read so far but i'll admit and say that maybe, just maybe these two are my favorite. Logan and Mia's story was one slow burn i didn't want to end.

Logan was admired Mia from a far since she came to his little town, but now thanks to his brothers, he finally has a chance to shoot his shot. Spending time together, shows them that there is more out there and if you're brave enough it just might sweep you off your feet. What started off as a joke from his brothers, turned out to be what they always secretly wanted.

I don't read (too) much clean romance books but when i do, best believe Tess Thompson is my pick.

Great addition to the Savoring Christmas series by Tess Thompson.
Wonderful sounding recipes included!
Logan is an attorney and the last of his brothers to be single. He’s crushed on Mia for a really long time but can’t seem to get up the courage to ask her out.
Mia was a famous chef in NYC but moved to town and now has an exclusive restaurant on the outskirts of town. She is a mystery to the town.
Mia offers a cooking class and six people show up to it. Logan lost a bet with his brothers and is one of her students. Every person in the class is there for a special reason and they all get more than they expected.
Logan and Mia get to spend extra time with each other.

Mia came to Sugarville Grove after being taken advantage of when she started her restaurant in New York. She now runs a small restaurant on the first floor of her house that is open just a couple nights a week. But she loves her work. Logan is an attorney who has a great practice in Sugarville Grove where his family lives. He loves his work but is very reluctant to change his life. His family feels he needs to meet the right person. Suddenly he finds himself in a cooking class that Mia is holding twice a week. The interactions of Mia and Logan and with them as his family is so great. There is also a woman with three children who needs help and the cooking group and Logan’s family work to help her. Loved the interactions and the story.

Mia came to Sugarville Grove, After losing everything in a Ponzi scheme. She has opened a successful restaurant that is only open two nights a week, but is booked for reservations months in advance. Suffering from loneliness, Mia, a dedicated chef, decided to offer cooking lessons at a local school. After losing a bet at the local trivia contest, Logan Hayes is set up by his brothers to attend the cooking lessons. Everyone who attends reveals their motivation for attending.

Who knew the love of food might affect someone’s future?

The book contains mouthwatering descriptions of the food the group learns to prepare—with recipes included.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

I just love the cozy warmth, romance and humour in this sweet clean romance. Mia is a chef who lost everything in New York and who now has her own restaurant in charming Sugarville Grove. Logan is a part of the Hayes family who produces the maple syrup in the small town. He is a lawyer who has moved back to town. Although he has admired Mia for a long time, he hasn't had the guts to ask her out. But he has lost a bet and he is forced to take her cooking class. What an amazing cooking class! I love the participants and how they all grow so close to each other. Mia and Logan are great together and they have chemistry. I love Tess Thompson's writing and this beautiful story.

Mia, a popular chef from New York moves to Sugarville Grove to lick her wounds after losing everything.
Logan, a family lawyer, who's family is part of the fabric of Sugarville Grove.
The two of them have admired each other from afar, but Logan is grumpy and Mia is still punishing herself and they never let each other close.
Until Mia, desperate for friends, decides to start a cooking school. Logan, after losing a bet with his brother, has to take the classes - to save his mom's kitchen from burning down too.
As they get to know each other they grow closer until Mia is given an offer she can't refuse and it leaves her and Logan at crossroads.
A great story with awesome, well tested recipes for the reader to try to bring a little bit of Italy into your home no matter where you live.

Food is meant to be savored and treated as a friendship

Mia loved to make and serve food as a experience in itself. She had lost everything and hid in her cottage turned part time restaurant, until she stepped out to start a cooking class to raise money for the local food closet.
Logan was intrigued by Mia as they worked together on the food closet, being coaxed into joining the cooking class by his brothers.
Food drew them together as the class become a community she had longed for.
Will food be what tears them apart?
The words of this story awaken your senses as you heard and smelled the onions, garlic, butter and oil be the heart of each dish. Add the wine, cheeses, pasta and tomatoes and your nose and taste buds take notice!

I’ve enjoyed every book in this Sugarville Grove series, but Logan & Mia’s story seems extra special. Lawyer Logan is gifted when talking to clients, but hasn’t found the words to ask Chef Mia out, a woman he’s been admiring from afar for months. Leave it to his meddling brothers, and a lost bet in a trivia contest to force him to enroll in a cooking class Mia is starting. If you think you can’t fall in love in an elementary school kitchen, you should read this book to see how wrong you are! This is the ultimate feel-good redemption story for a chef who lost it all & ended up finding exactly what she really wanted all along.

Savoring Christmas is lawyer Logan Hayes and Chef Mia Bianchi’s slow burn romance that I quickly became invested in. It’s book eight in the Sugarville Grove Series and I loved everything about it from the quirky characters to the charm of Sugarville Grove.
Logan is the towns local grumpy lawyer and he has been hiding his feelings for the Mia for a while now. Deciding to bite the bullet and show her how he feels he takes cookery lessons and that’s when things get real interesting…….
This is a well written, slow, burn, entertaining read with characters that are easy to love. I love the holidays and this was a magical read.

Mia has started up a remote high end restaurant outsite of town, that characters in previous books have enjoyed. She offers a cooking class as a way to get to know more people, and 6 sign up - each with a story to share. It was good to see them bond and become supportive friends to each other. There are recipes printed at the start of each class, and Mia describes how to make each dish. (I tried to make pasta from scratch, and failed - but fun to try). As usual, the Hayes family gather regularly and welcome Mia as a new member. I found the little dog Cannoli was included too much in the story, but otherwise a great romance.

Savoring Christmas (A Small Town Christmas Romance) : Sugarville Grove - Book 8
After leaving the big city and loosing her business, her home, and her investments Mia Bianchi moved to Sugarville Grove 4 years ago to the cabin she inherited from her grandmother. She hasn’t made friends or fit into the community yet. At a Trivia Night family law attorney Logan Hayes, meets chef Mia. Neither was looking for a relationship let alone love. Mia makes a life changing decision to hold an Italian cooking class. Who would guess that class could change so many lives. I loved this book. The spirit of Christmas in Sugarville Grove is alive and well in the hearts of this small towns residents.

Reading Savoring Christmas feels like eating warm, hearty pasta on a cold day! Mia, a former New York chef, who now lives in Sugarville Grove, is teaching a cooking class to raise money for the Food Bank and to meet people in the community. Handsome, grump lawyer Logan loses a bet with his brothers which puts him in Mia’s cooking class. Things heat up between the two as marinara sauce simmers on the stove! Along with romances, the cooking class group become friends and help a local family in need. Also, if you love cats and dogs, there is a special surprise that features the cutest dog imaginable and a sassy cat to fall in love with.

Cooking up romance

Logan is such a great character. I’ve loved watching him develop throughout the other books. I’ve loved how Mia has been such a quiet, yet important part of other stories.
It was such a joy to see them come together. Watching them become friends and more couldn’t have been more perfect.
I loved the charitable aspect of the story. It’s great that giving is such a part of this series.
The side characters added so much to the story.
AND — don’t forget to grab the bonus chapter offered at the end of the book. You don’t want to miss the previous scene that Tess shares.

What a savory read! This is another book in the Sugarville Grove Series. This time it is Mia and Logan's story. Mia has her own restaurant and had to start over from nothing. She started a cooking class to get to know more people and share the love of cooking. Logan is a town lawyer and is not a very good cook. His brothers made a bet with him and he lost and now must attend the class. He has secretly adored Mia from afar and now he is in class. This story has a nice pace and is a wonderful read. The whole series is! Thank you to the publisher for a chance to read this book. My opinions are my own.

What could one bet between 4 brothers bring to one of them?? How about a cooking class and Logan Hayes finding the one with Mia. This is such a great story of different characters of all different backgrounds of life coming together to learn about cooking and for different reasons. In the end they all end up becoming on tight group and helping a family in their community that desperately needs it. A single mom with three kids trying to make it work.
