Excellent field guide, lots of info and very good illustrations, just missing the RTP arrows highlighting key field marks :-) Very thorough, depicting and describing all birds seen in the UK and Ireland from ~1930-1980. Small enough to conceivably be carried in the field, but rugged; the version I read was hardcover and looked like it could survive a lot of use. One curious editorial decision: on the cover one illustration is of a North American vagrant that had only shown up in the subject region 8 times, rather than the more common local bird in that family.
