Hoe meer ik over Panda en Draak lees, hoe meer ik besef dat ik verre van zen ben. Maar ik lees de boeken graag en de illustraties zijn ongelooflijk mooi.

Deze serie van James Norbury is en blijft een van mijn favorieten. Ik was zo blij dat er een nieuw deel uitkwam en ook deze was weer zo mooi 🥹❤️🩹.
Het mooie aan dit boek is dat je het op verschillende manieren kan lezen/gebruiken. Je kan het als een verhaal lezen van begin tot eind. Je kan het boek ook willekeurig open slaan en het gebruiken als een gedachte voor de dag. Maar je kan het boek ook gebruiken als een hulp. Elk hoofdstuk bestaat namelijk uit een ander onderwerp, zoals angst en bezorgdheid, scheiding en eenzaamheid, depressie en twijfelen aan jezelf. Dus als je even minder goed gaat, is er misschien een hoofdstuk dat je kan helpen/bemoedigen/troosten.
Een paar van mijn favoriete quotes uit het boek:
'Alles is eindig' zei Grote Panda.
'Ook de pijn die je nu voelt.'
'Het leven is als een pot thee. Soms is het te veel voor één iemand. Probeer het te delen.'
'Dit pad liep nergens heen.
Maar niet elk pad hoeft een bestemming te hebben. Misschien moeten we eerst verdwalen om onszelf terug te vinden.'

Dit blijven toch wel heel erg mooie boeken. Ze zetten mij altijd zo aan het denken.
Sommige stukjes over donker en eenzaamheid raakten mij wel. Hierdoor ging ik weer denken aan alles van de afgelopen jaren, alles wat er gebeurt is en alles wat ik voelden.
Deze zinnen zijn mij echt bij gebleven:
'soms voel ik mij leeg en doelloos' zei kleine draak.
'Doelloosheid is niet hetzelfde als leegte', zei grote panda.
'beschouw het als de vrijheid om te dwalen, te onderzoeken, het leven zich te laten ontvouwen, zonder enige verwachtingen'.
'eenzaamheid kan heel pijnlijk zijn, omdat we gedwongen worden onszelf aan te kijken'.
Maar in die leegte schuilt een wereld van innerlijke rust, waarin we kunnen groeien en onszelf leren kennen'.
Ook dit boekje heeft hele mooie illustraties die echt goed bij de tekst passen. ik raad je echt aan dit boek te lezen en er ook echt de tijd ervoor te nemen.

I loved A Beautiful World so much. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that stirred this many emotions in me.
Reading it felt like walking alongside Big Panda and Tiny Dragon through darkness, fear, and uncertainty. I loved that the story doesn’t rush to comfort me or offer easy answers. Instead, it reminds me that even when I am deep in the darkness and can’t imagine any light, it still exists. I just have to keep walking and this message stayed with me long after I closed the book.
As always, I loved the illustrations. Every James Norbury book has a special place in my heart, and this one is no different.

The Way to a Beautiful World contains beautiful drawings, though sometimes a bit clumsy or cartoony, but I think that's Norbury's charm. The stories are cute and sweet, but do not have as much impact as the first book. There were only a few quotes that stuck with me this time, but that's okay. As I said in my review of Charlie Mackesy's sequel to The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, it's best not to rush this book. Instead, read only a few pages a day, or simply open it randomly and read a bit. Else, the sayings in it lose their lustre fast, and become repetitive. But I think it's the perfect Christmas gift for this year (alongside Always Remember!).

Veliki Panda i Sićušni Zmaj, likovi koji su mi jako prirasli srcu, kao i, vjerujem, brojnim čitateljima diljem svijeta koji prate Norburyeve knjige i ilustracije, otisnuli su se na još jedno putovanje.
Pronašavši tajanstvenu kartu u kutiji za čaj, kartu koja vodi do Najljepšeg Mjesta na Svijetu, Veliki Panda i Sićušni Zmaj odluče poći na put kako bi pronašli to mjesto i svojim očima vidjeli svu njegovu ljepotu.
Put se ispostavi kao sve samo ne lagan, ali ustrajno ga slijedeći, dvojica prijatelja podsjećaju i sebe i nas kako bit putovanja nije njegov cilj, već upravo tijek, i društvo u kojem se tijekom tog putovanja nalaziš.
Knjiga je podijeljena na sedam dijelova, a u svakome od njih Veliki Panda i Sićušni Zmaj suočavaju se s određenom poteškoćom, no ne u obliku (samo) vanjskih, već unutarnjih nepogoda. Sumnja u sebe, anksioznost, beznađe, ljutnja... brojne nepogode u obliku teških osjećaja napadaju dvojicu prijatelja kako oni napreduju na svom putu, pružajući im vrijedne lekcije o tome kako te osjećaje nadvladati i ostaviti za sobom.
Ustrajno bodreći jedan drugoga i pružajući si međusobnu podršku, Veliki Panda i Sićušni Zmaj pokazuju nam kako je svaka tegoba lakša kada imaš nekoga na koga se možeš osloniti, čak i ako u tom trenutku ta osoba uopće nije pored tebe. Čak i kada ih u jednom trenu put iznenada razdvoji, dvojica prijatelja ne predaju se i ustraju, trudeći se savladavati prepreke samostalno, korak po korak, a svaki od tih koraka dovest će ih naposlijetku opet jednoga drugome.
Ispunjena predivnim ilustracijama i značajnim porukama, ova knjiga dragocjen je podsjetnik na bivanje u trenutku, opažanje malih stvari, polagan napredak, traženje ljepote u svemu oko nas, učenje iz poteškoća koje se pred nama pojave, iskazivanje ljubaznosti te, nadasve, važnost prijateljstva i povezanost s drugima.
Kao i sve Norburyeve knjige, ovo nije knjiga koja se (samo) čita. Može se čitati od korica do korica, može se otvoriti ondje gdje treba, može se listati nasumično. Ovo je knjiga iz koje se crpi inspiracija, utjeha, pomoć... što god bilo ono nešto za čim u određenom trenutku postoji potreba. A ako ste čitali i ostale Norburyeve knjige, u ovoj ćete sresti još par likova koje ćete iz njih prepoznati.
Dođu li Veliki Panda i Sićušni Zmaj do svog cilja? Naravno. No, Najljepše Mjesto na Svijetu možda jest najljepše, ali svakome će biti tek onoliko lijepo koliko je bilo iskustvo koje ga je onamo dovelo, i svi oni koji su to iskustvo učinili vrijednim proživljavanja.

The artwork displays the message as effectively as the text and is visually beautiful, the type of books that you proudly display and that will appeal, albeit on different levels, to young readers and adults alike.
Narratives featuring non-human primary characters, aimed at teaching morals, have been known for centuries. Aesop’s fables are probably the best-known and have obtained classical status. In contrast with his short fables, both Mackesy and Norbury devote their entire texts to a single story, both centred around journeys.
Mackesy continues with his beloved characters, the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse, in Always Remember, as does Norbury with Big Panda and Tiny Dragon in A Beautiful World. The main difference is the primary sources of the shared wisdom, Norbury focuses on the internal journeys that manifest because of the literal journey, whilst Mackesy’s characters reveal their wisdom to one another.
Memorable quotes include:

It's a comfort book (like comfort food). You can read and re-read again and again. You can also gift it to friends across all age groups.

Wanneer de twee vrienden een mysterieuze kaart vinden, besluiten ze op zoek te gaan naar de mooiste plek op aarde. Hun reis voert hen langs prachtige landschappen, onverwachte uitdagingen en moeilijke hindernissen. Soms lijkt de weg te zwaar, maar samen zetten ze altijd door. Gaandeweg ontdekken ze iets bijzonders: schoonheid ligt niet alleen op de plaats van bestemming, maar overal om ons heen – als je maar goed kijkt. Het avontuur begint wanneer Grote Panda en Kleine Draak tijdens een theeceremonie een stukje van een mysterieuze kaart vinden. Samen besluiten ze op zoek te gaan naar de mooiste plek op aarde. Hun tocht voert langs prachtige landschappen en zit vol boeddhistische inzichten, levenslessen en stille wijsheden die keer op keer weten te raken.
Wat dit verhaal zo krachtig maakt, is de herkenbaarheid. Iedereen worstelt met emoties, twijfels en verlangens, en juist daarom komen de woorden van Grote Panda zo binnen. Zijn eenvoudige maar diepe inzichten bezorgen je kippenvel en zetten aan tot reflectie.

Και στο πιο πρόσφατο βιβλίο του, οι δύο ήρωες ασχολούνται με τόσα πολλά διαφορετικά θέματα και πραγματικά βάζουν τον αναγνώστη να δει το εκάστοτε πρόβλημα με τελείως διαφορετικό μάτι.
Αν δεν έχετε διαβάσει τις περιπέτειες τους, σας προτείνω να το κάνετε. Να κάνετε δώρο κάποιο από τα βιβλία τους στον εαυτό σας και σίγουρα θα γαληνέψει η ψυχή σας.
«Όσοι νοιάζονται για τον συνάνθρωπο τους μπορεί να μην πάρουν ποτέ το ευχαριστώ που τους αξίζει. Η αγάπη κι η καλοσύνη σου αλλάζουν τον κόσμο με τρόπους που ίσως δε φαντάζεσαι. Μια μικρή πράξη τη σωστή στιγμή μπορεί να αλλάξει τα πάντα. Μην υποτιμάς ποτέ την επίδραση που μπορείς να έχεις στον κόσμο.»

What a privilege it was to be introduced to the Big Panda and Tiny Dragon in a new favorite book, The Way to a Beautiful World.
Having finished this book yesterday, I am still deeply thinking about the well chosen words, which when put together, were thought provoking, calming, encouraging and yes, even challenging.
I absolutely loved the friendship between the panda and the dragon. They took turns being the encourager and being the one who needed encouragement. Isn’t that the way any good friendship should be?
And, I can’t say enough good things about the illustrations. They are stunning, beautiful, evocative and thought provoking. And, they pair beautifully with the well chosen words that they share each page with.
I cannot say enough good things about this beautiful book. I loved it! It has earned a permanent spot on my shelf. Get yourself a copy, read it and cherish it.

Beautiful, beautiful book and message. I just finished the follow up to Charlie Mackey's book, The boy, the mole, the fox, the horse and the storm, and this book is right in par with being the message the world so badly needs. If every human could have this compassion and empathy, how different would it look? Beautiful illustration and message alike. Sorry to be bossy, but get it.

Wat een prachtig boek weer van Big Panda and Tiny Dragon! Ik vind al James' boeken mooi en ze zetten je aan het denken, maar he stepped up his game on this one! ❤️ echt prachtige tekeningen en een fijn verhaal dat je kan oppakken als je even vastloopt en anders naar de wereld (of je innerlijke problemen) wil kijken. Very relatable. Thank you James!

Just like the ones before, I really liked this one so much—I read it in one sitting! I love that each chapter previews what’s coming, which helps people skip to just the section they need without reading the whole book.When I say it helps, I don’t mean like a classic self-help book, but in a fun way that makes you wonder about things, see new perspectives, and probably even heal a bit.
Overall, it’s engaging, practical, and thoughtfully structured for real impact!

Een mooi boek met veel belangrijke onderwerpen en boodschappen. Niet mijn favoriete boek van Norbury maar zeker niet ‘slecht’!
Niet super veel quotes gevonden waar ik mezelf ik kon vinden maar wel veel mooie quotes waar ik zeker van weet dat andere zichzelf in herkennen!

In dit nieuwe, betoverende verhaal beleven Grote Panda en Kleine Draak opnieuw een inspirerend avontuur en nodigen ze je uit beter naar de wereld om je heen te kijken. De twee vrienden vinden een mysterieuze kaart en gaan op zoek naar de mooiste plek op aarde. De reis is lang en de hindernissen die ze moeten nemen zijn groot. Soms lijkt alles Grote Panda en Kleine Draak te overweldigen, maar samen zetten ze door. Gaandeweg ontdekken ze iets bijzonders: schoonheid vind je niet altijd waar je haar verwacht, maar eigenlijk overal. Als je maar goed kijkt.
Ik had een zware week en van lezen kwam niets, want ik kon er mijn gedachten totaal niet bijhouden. Bij de mooiste plek op aarde is dat niet erg. Je kunt het boek natuurlijk wel in één ruk uitlezen, maar ik las nu elke dag een klein stukje.
De beste plek op aarde bestaat uit verschillende hoofdstukken en elk hoofdstuk beslaat een ander onderwerp. Mocht je dus voor een specifieke uitdaging staan, dan zit er vast ook voor jou een hoofdstuk bij dat kan helpen.
Want dit boek was als een warme deken, troostend en liefdevol en precies waar ik op dat moment behoefte aan had:
'Ik zie op tegen morgen,' zei Kleine Draak.
'Morgen bestaat niet,' zei Grote Panda.
'Er is alleen vandaag, en vandaag kunnen we wel aan.'
Met prachtige illustraties en ontroerende dialogen neemt James Norbury je mee op de reis van Grote Panda en Kleine Draak. Een reis met mooie inzichten, wijze levenslessen en lichtpuntjes in het donker. Het maakt De mooiste plek op aarde tot een aanwinst voor de boekenkast. Een boek dat ik er nog vaak uit zal halen om telkens opnieuw nog weer even een stukje uit te lezen.
En met de feestdagen in het vooruitzicht is dit boek zeker een aanrader om cadeau te geven!

This is an amazing book so real to life but put in simple examples portrayed by characters. This truly should be read by people of all ages. I am 72 and love this author and the artwork is so great.

Another beautifully illustrated book in this series. The teachings of Buddhism through Big Panda and Tiny Dragon through their travels is amazing.
