I was drawn into this story about a school bus full of kids, that goes missing. A police force that is less than ideal, kind of bungles things. I enjoyed the characters, the FBI investigators. Quite a police procedural, until ...it isn't. I tried to think of ways the bus could disappear and who could have done it, and I was kind of flabbergasted to see the direction this story took. A very fast and good read.

A compelling mystery that takes many turns along its route (Pun Intended). Filled with great characters and a bunch of fun references to classic horror I can't recommend this one enough.

I wrote it so of course I’m going to give it a 5 out of 5. You wouldn’t?

I do sincerely think you’ll have a fun time reading this relatively short and fast-paced novel. When I came up with the premise, I remember telling my fiancé about it and said that I would want to read it if I came across it in a book store. Fans of True Detective with horror elements, Stephen King, etc. will the find mystery and characters engaging, complete with twists and turns that conclude in what I consider a satisfying finale. However, seeing as I am the author, I can admit I might be a little biased. Just a little…

That is why I would be eager to hear from you, even if you hate it! Regardless, I am grateful for the read.

Dylan R. Nix kindly sent me a copy of Bus 576 in exchange for an honest review — and I’m glad he did.

The premise hooked me right away: on an otherwise normal day in Frostburg, Vermont, school bus 576 vanishes without a trace, along with all 37 children and the driver. Special Agents Kolsfina and Lugois are sent in to investigate the disappearance, and what begins as a procedural case soon unravels into something much more tangled and unexpected.

The first two-thirds of the book read like a classic detective thriller. Leads are tracked, clues analyzed, and a fair bit of time is spent exploring the town’s residents, their secrets, and some intricate, perhaps overly detailed, subplots. At times, I felt the pacing could have been tighter—some scenes felt drawn out and slowed the momentum. That said, those details do build a strong sense of place and character.

Then, around the 200-page mark, things shift. The pacing picks up fast, and I was absolutely hooked. The final 60 pages flew by—I couldn’t turn them quick enough. I won’t spoil the ending, but I will say it surprised me in the best way. The twists were earned, and the emotional payoff landed.

Overall, while the book might benefit from some trimming to tighten the pacing early on, Bus 576 delivers a compelling mystery with memorable characters and a finish that stuck with me. Definitely worth the read.
