Warwitch Academy #1

Warwitch Academy

Rate this book
I'd love to give peace a chance. Too bad not everyone agrees.

After years as the Free States of Caldia's most lethal weapon, all I want is to study magic at Stoneway Academy and find something resembling a normal civilian life. The Great War against the Democratic Republic of Auropa has finally come to a ceasefire, but tensions haven't necessarily died down overnight.

When I finally started courting witches as a bright-eyed student, I was hoping I'd find romance. Instead, everyone is reminding me of my civic duty as a warlock to procreate for the betterment of Caldia's future. Somehow I ended up with a vampire-obsessed roommate who's convinced I'm undead, two beautiful witches pretending to be my girlfriends, and a tiny demonic familiar with the least wholesome idea of world domination anyone has ever heard of.

But the heavily slanted witch-to-warlock ratio and all its implications are far from the most stressful part of my new life. In fact, I've discovered a conspiracy beneath the school—something designed to shatter the fragile peace between nations. Just who is behind this scheme, and how deep does it go?

Now I'm the only one who can stop it—me and the women who adore me, that is. With my blood magic and the help of academy witches getting their first taste of real combat, I'll have to embrace the very violence I came here to leave behind. But that won't stop me from enjoying our downtime together.

One way or another, I will protect the peace, and the women, I've sacrificed so much for.

Don't know where all the 5 stars come from

This book was ridiculous I mean we're talking about a grizzly veteran here who has killed dozens if not hundreds of people has fought demons And he acts like a stupid teenage virgin all the time around the girls I mean it's pathetic. For someone who has been in the trenches who has actually seen conflict that changes you you're not some blushing teenager I don't care how old you are you're confident you're assured I mean this book was just pathetic...

Wizards will see you drain the blood from a massive demon and say "this lowly nepo baby hath nary learned an incantation!"

I can't give this book a very serious review because it isn't very serious. It is the trashiest novel I've ever read, and any time I think it will do something cool it goes for the easiest possible route. It has such a gritty setting, but it doesn't matter because the book just a vehicle for a harem of kemonomimi girls.

The craziest thing about this book is the fascist dystopia it exists in, but how completely unimportant it is the the story. The main character has been thoroughly crushed under the boot of fascism: his parents died when he was young, he was drafted as a child soldier in a brutal war, and he was forced to use his morbid powers to drain the life of enemies and comrades alike. It's truly horrifying, but the criticism of fascism is never any deeper than the MC being like "pssh, get a load of this guy". The only reason it's in the book is to justify polygamy (they're super into eugenics) and to explain why the MC knows everybody (they fought together in the war).

The magic system was already nonexistent, but it's constantly undercut by the fan service and sex scenes. The sex scenes weren't even that spicy! The entire book is male-gazey which like is not my cup of tea but whatever, but like the language to describe acts and body parts and stuff just came off as so stiff (hehehe) I didn't really know what was happening during the scenes. The incredibly raunchy humor though was the highlight of the story. There were some jokes that either landed, were so dumb it was embarrassing, or both. The crown jewel was when we learned that the MC slept with one of his lover's mom, and rather than be uncomfortable, it was a bonding moment because it meant they were "coitus cousins". The over-the-top campy humor was honestly incredibly entertaining and kept me reading an otherwise terrible book.

The other good part of the book was that the overarching mystery wasn't terrible. There was a character that was introduced as an antagonist and a very suspicious character, but it became an interesting little mystery where it was unclear how everyone connected to the larger scheme that was happening. The conclusion was so much more thought out than I was expecting and the single most shocking thing was that I was actually touched by some of the emotional reviews?! Against my better judgement I got emotionally invested in the story and I actually got a satisfying conclusion. It's hard to rate this book because it was pretty terrible by most metrics, but I did have a good time reading it and finished in embarrassingly quickly. My thirst for trash has been sated... for now

This was a very nice read. Much of the plot is very similar to other books, this one adds a sense of humor with a few interesting and eccentric characters. I was able to figure out who the main villain was quite a while before it was revealed.
The story starts out with a blood mage, a very unique and very new type of mage. Because of his ability he was used in a wide range of missions during the war. After the war is over, he gets a scholarship to attend one of the most prestigious academies for teaching mages. His wyldling magic of a blood mage is very strong but that is a inherent ability. As far as being able to do actual magic he is untrained and very unskilled. Apparently women have a greater affinity to magic then men do. Male mages are encouraged to form harems and monogamy is looked down upon. Much of the book is tongue and cheek, which is typical of the author. The school gives a slight nod to the 'Harry Potter' universe with adults instead of children. Women are apparently influenced by wylding magic as well. Most of the women have some sort of animal characteristics. You have his roommate who is part wolf, and wants to be a vampire hunter. You have the catgirl who he meets on the train and pictured on the cover.

The irregular at magic high meets Harry Potter meets post war history

Very interesting setting. Lots of different influences. The world is in a tense post war cease fire. The novel follows the MC who was a child soldier and now a post war veteran as he tries to assimilate into normal life with his age group peers.

There is so much setting and plot that the character interactions feel kinda... Rushed or light? I'm looking forward to get to know some of these characters much more in depth in future titles.

All that being said it has the signature Virgil Knightley comedy and fun characters. Hexia is hilarious. Kensie is pretty funny. Erina is interesting. Tanya feels pretty bland.

This is one of the less steamy books by Virgil with only two spicy scenes, and they are both over quickly. But still fun.

I'm looking forward to more, but something tells me this won't be a long series.

A completely insanely over the top low fantasy/academy explicit harem book.

A war veteran from a magic/industrial war attends a magic academy on the GI Bill when the war ends. For reasons the school requires witches to form harems around warlocks to breed stronger for the next war.

A story of him growing in learning magic spells instead of his insanely overpowered battlefield innate magic. And dealing with his creative writing minor because he want to develop romantic relationships in place of harems.

There is an external and internal threat to defeat.

The issues are two fold: The sex scenes are insanely over the top. Not even vaguely possible. And the MC was some overpowered battlefield superweapon but now his magic, when it is time for combat as opposed to class work, is nerfed a lot and he loses some major powers we saw on the field-- without explanation.

The book begins with an intriguing backstory and premise: a war veteran returning to school for a proper education. I was hoping for the story of a child soldier who grew up on a battlefield, facing the challenges of adjusting to civilian life and struggling to master his long-neglected magical skills. With, of course, the obligatory side of relationship drama.

What I got was a story that immediately devolved into silliness and was completely subsumed by harem nonsense. Even the token mentions of learning magic were just pretexts for some woman or another to rub herself all over the MC. The book had a modest highlight in the final couple of dozen pages, but not nearly enough to salvage the whole or remotely tempt me to jump into the next volume. This is just not for me.

Great first book for the series

Great book, enjoyed the characters, setting, and plot. Liked the MC’s powers. I do have one hang up about the book though. He is supposed to be like a decade older than everyone thinks he is cause his powers keep him looking young and he doesn’t seem to want people to know about his military time and what he did during the war cause that part is behind him. But at a certain point, it seems like all the women around him know about his time at war and how dangerous he can be without there being any talks between them about it. Just seemed to lack emotion and depth there. Besides that, I’m looking forward to the next book

Interesting new series

I do enjoy a good grizzled veteran story, and this one is no slouch in that. I characters were great and the story is very interesting. I feel like we missed some plot points either in time, skips, or stuff that was cut, and that made it a little confusing. Especially with one of the girls just suddenly knowing Hexi existed without ever having been interduced. Very minor but a little confusing. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Great fun and action!

The premise was well done and I really enjoyed the characters. Great personal growth and just enough world building. The action wows great and the spicy moments were well done without being too much. Hoping for a second book if possible and looking forward to other books by these authors.

A fun, unique story.

The writing is great. The characters are well fleshed out, and the world is interesting.

I was unsure when I started, but I'm extremely glad I gave it a shot.

The MC goes through some real feelings and change for the better.
Don't think twice. Your going to like thus one

An interesting take to the war academy fantasy

This story has a nice fun grip dealing with ptsd, the horrors of war and what survivors' guilt does to a person even as it navigates a cast of bevy beauties and saucy spicy scenes of fun, all topped with the right amount of gory combat that make it a fun hlit novel. Highly recommend

A typical magical academy books which uses so many harry potter themes on other names. I liked this book but something about all the Women's jumping to the MCs harem seems like a plot convenient and fake harem setup is also something that is stupid for a guy who is very old and a war veteran. Other than that, i like this book and continue with the series.

Just about as good as it gets.

This team of writers continue to amaze with great story lines, hear pounding plots and unforgettable characters. This effort is among their best and I anxiously look forward to further installments to this storyline.

A man looking for romance

Pretty funny book where a man now free from the army is looking for romance, and not just baseless rutting, while the girls are all throwing themselves at him. Well written spiciness.

I didn't get very far into this book before I decided it just wasn't for me. I'm not a big fan of the Academy trope, but the authors have done good work before, so I took a chance on it. I was numb to the MC and the start of the book, so I put it down.

Annoying hero

The reversed women into s** and our hero looking for love was cute to start. It got repetitive and annoying really quick. That said, the plot was generally good, and I plan to read the next book.

Not bad or should I say good start

It was a good read. There are some Easter egg references in there. I did find myself comparing the plot to Harry Potter at times. Let's see where the next one goes. Narf.

Nice!

Good amount of action amongst the harem stuff. Really enjoyable final battle and loved the ending. I wouldn't call it an epilogue but it was interesting.
