Kismet Kennedy isn’t here for love. She joined the galactic matchmaking service to avoid being separated from her twin sister—so of course she gets matched first. Her new husband? * * * * Cosmic Mates sci-fi romances are released in “duets,” each two-book set is its own mini-series. Books one and two are a set, books three and four are a different mini-series, etc. Alien Heir is the start of a new duet. All the Cosmic Mates sci-fi romances can be read as standalones.
USA Today bestselling author Cara Bristol writes science fiction romance about tough alien and cyborg heroes who fall hard for sassy heroines.
Cara is a homebody who married a wanderer. When she’s not writing or being distracted by squirrels cavorting outside her office window, she enjoys reading and traveling the world with her husband. Topping her bucket list is visiting all seven continents and petting a squirrel.
When her flamboyant twin sister signs her up for an intergalactic dating service and when an alien prince needs help from his impulsive younger brother to avoid a boring arranged marriage, Cosmic Mates comes to the rescue. A combo of marriage of convenience- futuristic mail order bride- fake mates layered on the tropes in a delicious way.
Alien Heir is the seventh entry in the Cosmic Mates series. Cara Bristol has produced a series of two-story sets all with the arranged marriage service, Cosmic Mates. Each “set“ offers vastly different racial participating partners and a new world or setting.
Alien Heir is the first of a duet pair taking place on an alien planet of humanoids. This first book finds a royal prince despondent though dutiful. His parents are arranging a political match and the lady is probably very nice, but Jaryk is in love with someone else- a woman no in his family seems to like. But, his younger brother has his back in his gutsy, thoughtless way and signs Jaryk up for a matchmaking service and he gets a hit with a human woman who most definitely won’t meet the approval of his parents. But, his brother’s outlandish plan is that this service comes with an escape clause which will buy him some time. Only, there is a snag.
From the moment he encounters sweet, mature, and serious-minded Kismet Kennedy, he is suddenly not so sure he wants a marriage of convenience with an escape clause. She may be all wrong for his parents, but Kismet might be the best mistake he ever made.
On the flip side, Kismet can’t believe she got a match before her sister. Kismet is the boring twin. But, an adventure offworld has appeal and, if it doesn’t work out, there is the escape clause. From the moment she meets Prince Jaryk, she’s of two minds. One side has no desire to use the escape clause, but the other knows he is out of her class as a royal.
Alien Heir was like others in the series, cozy in tone and an easy, fairly low drama piece focused on two very different people figuring out they might seem too different, but the Cosmic Mates got the match right. There is a bit of suspense because the reader knows that Jaryk is keeping secret all of why he’s doing this and there is that feeling of waiting for the proverbial ax to fall. I loved how there were a few scenes of this pair spending time together, getting to know who they are, and falling in love after seeing a person they could respect as well as be attracted to. Funny little reveal at the end and the obvious set up of their more dramatic siblings who are in serious denial.
All in all, a relaxing, low-angst sci-fi romance that can be picked up standalone.
I rec'd an eARC via Book Funnel from the author to read in exchange for an honest review.
My full review will post at That's What I'm Talking About on 9.11.25.
This is the first book in the newest duet of the Cosmic Mates series and I loved all the new characters in it. This set includes two sets of siblings, human twin sisters Kismet and Karma as well as the alien princes Jaryk and Falkor. This book focuses on Jaryk & Kismet but their siblings provide a lot of support as well as humor and I look forward to seeing how they get together in the next book. The epilogue was also amusing and provided an unexpected surprise from Jaryk and Falkor's mother.
Alien Heir is the newest book in Cara Bristol's Cosmic Mates Series and such a sweet story. Within this series, the author has written duets, but each can be read as standalone books. All have been fast-paced and easily finished in a day.
I feel this one has been the absolute sweetest of the series. It's a little bit steamy and a whole lot romantic. If you like Sci-Fi Romance and tales about royal families, you'll love Alien Heir.
Prince Jaryk Rullok-Myka of Kaldor is expected to marry a suitable noblewoman--one chosen by the King and Queen. But he wants someone else, someone his parents feel is unworthy of their son. To aid his brother, Jaryk's younger brother takes matters into his own hands and signs Jaryk up for the Cosmic Mates program.
When twins Kismet and Karma sign up for Cosmic Mates, they are surprised when Kismet gets a match before her vivacious sister. Kismet is matched to Prince Jaryk, unaware he is the royal prince, and sets out for Kaldor with Karma along for support.
Needless to say, Prince Jaryk was clueless about his brother's shenanigans. This sweet story highlights the chemistry between these two wonderful characters. I absolutely loved their romance. In this book, we are introduced to Karma and Prince Falkor, two meddling siblings who instantly hate each other. The author did a wonderful job of setting the stage for a beautiful enemies-lovers trope (my favorite) for the second book in the duet. I can't wait for their story!
Set up by family deviants, an Earth woman and a Kaldoran prince have a choice. Will the prince choose the better path or will he end the marriage after the one-year mark? Is putting her life on earth in the past going to end up being a mistake? This was a sweet alien love story that didn't take long to read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“Marrying a woman I don’t love to avoid marrying another woman I don’t love is not a solution!” He barked a sarcastic laugh. “If Father and Mother were unwilling to accept Charday, a Kaldoran, they’re not going to accept an alien woman from a Podunk planet on the outskirts of nowhere.” “Father will be so horrified by you marrying a human, Charday will become much more appealing by comparison. He’ll welcome her into the family with open arms.”
I loved this book. It was such a fun romance. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Jaryk and Kismet. What's a prince to do when the person he wanted to marry "wasn't suitable" and his parents would make him marry a princess he doesn't want? According to his brother, marry someone they would approve of even less, so his real choice of wife would suddenly be more appealing. He just had to stay married to his human for a year. I appreciated that Jaryk thought his brother's scheme was nuts and refused- but Falkor signed him up anyway. Suddenly Kismet and her sister were there and they would be married the next day. He meant well.
"You will be king someday. How are you going to stand up for our people if you won’t stand up for yourself?”
I loved the way Kismet and Jaryk connected and found they could relate to each other in some ways. I liked the dynamic between them and the way their relationship developed. Sometimes what you need the most comes from unexpected places. Kismet couldn't believe she was matched for a mate before her twin sister, least of all to a crown prince and heir to the throne. But she liked his personality and decided to give it a chance. what could go wrong? This story was a fun adventure and I was completely hooked.
I liked the bond between the two sisters just as much as the two brothers. Falkor and Karma's first meeting was not so good and from that moment on I couldn't wait for their book next! 5 stars
A crown, a deadline, and a stranger from another world.
Prince Jaryk of Kaldor (H) is caught between duty and desire. With the clock ticking toward a forced royal engagement, his reckless brother signs him up for Cosmic Mates. Earth-born Kismet (h), grounded and cautious, agrees to the match as a chance to start fresh. Neither expects their temporary deal to spark something real.
What begins as a political fix turns into something deeper as Kismet adapts to palace life and Jaryk confronts the cost of living on autopilot. Through public appearances, royal politics, and family clashes, their bond grows. But shadows from Jaryk’s past and secrets he never meant to keep threaten to unravel everything.
When betrayal shatters trust, Kismet must decide if love is worth risking again. Jaryk must choose between loyalty to his crown and the woman who changed everything. In a world shaped by duty and pressure, their honest connection is the one thing that wasn’t part of the plan.
Jaryk evolves from a duty-bound prince resisting control to a man who takes ownership of his choices and emotions, while Kismet grows from a cautious outsider into someone who confidently navigates an unfamiliar world and embraces her own strength. Both characters become more self-aware and open as they confront past attachments and personal fears. Their relationship shifts from a strategic partnership to a genuine emotional connection built on mutual respect, growing attraction, and eventually love.
A steamy, alien-human, arranged marriage, opposites attract, royal romance exploring love, duty, identity, self-discovery, trust, betrayal, family dynamics, cultural integration, personal growth, rebellion against tradition, power, control, and vulnerability. It's a character-driven sci-fi romance with emotional stakes, real conflict, and a love worth fighting for.
The story is the seventh in the Cosmic Mates series. It is part of the Cosmic Mates series, and will read as a duet, along with Alien Spare. As with the other stories in this series, females from Earth will apply with Cosmic Mates, a galactic matchmaking service, that will match them with males of alien species.
Kismet Kennedy joined Cosmic Mates because she doesn’t want to be separated from her twin sister, Karma. What a shock when she is matched and learns her husband-to-be is a government official from Kaldor. Kismet will give up her government job, the apartment she shares with Karma, and together, they will travel the galaxy to Kaldor.
Prince Jaryk Rullok-Myka is in a dilemma with his parents arranging a marriage to a noblewoman, Alia. Jaryk has been involved with another woman, Charday, whom he wants to marry, but the King refuses to grant consent. It will be his younger brother, Falkor, who signs him up for Cosmic Mates and discovers there has been a match.
“Marry a stranger to escape an arranged marriage?”
“They’ll stay married for a year, then go their separate ways.”
The story has scheming siblings who are the reason Jaryk and Kismet are matched with Cosmic Mates. Now, how will Jaryk and Falkor be able to sneak around, bring the Kismet and Karma to Kaldor, along with a Cosmic Mates officiant, and sail under the radar of the King?
This was another enjoyable story in the Cosmic Mates series, and I look forward to the next book, Alien Spare. The characters are entertaining, and the pages turn in this tale of secrets, schemes, and exes. Will fate only be for one year, or will Jaryk and Kismet find their happily ever after?
Prince Jaryk Rullok-Myka is to be married to Alia, a woman he met only twice. His parents have arranged this and will not let him make his own choice. So Falkor, his younger brother decides to help by signing him up for Cosmic Mates. The rule is that if Jaryk is already married, he won’t have to marry Alia. And once married, he will only need to stay together with his bride for a year and then they can go their own ways. Jaryk ends up immediately matched to a human, Kismet Kennedy, who had signed up so she wouldn’t be separated from her twin sister, Karma. Kismet was told only that Jaryk was a government official from Kaldor, and she was permitted to bring her handmaiden with her, so Karma was included. Now Falkor has to figure out how they will get everyone to Kaldor, including a Cosmic Mates representative, without being discovered by the King. Will their plan work? And if it does, will the couple still decide to use the escape clause to dissolve the marriage? Or will they add another complication and fall in love for real? So many things can go wrong, even in a good way! So grab your copy and laugh and cheer them along to a HEA! And you won’t want to miss the next story in this Duet, Alien Spare, for more enjoyment!
Jaryk is the heir to the throne and is being forced to marry the woman his father has chosen. He doesn’t like her, but he must do his duty. But his mischievous brother has a way to get him out of his predicament. He just has to trick him into it!
Kismet signed up to Cosmic Mates because her twin sister talked her into doing it together. She was a little surprised when neither of them had a match right away. Her sister was the outgoing one and Kismet figured she would be matched right away. But when Kismet finally gets a response her sister is immediately against it. That makes her really curious about him. Turns out she is really interested in him and agrees to the marriage, if her sister can come with her.
When they arrive it seems both siblings have been manipulating these two lovers. Despite all the drama, these two are drawn to each other and soon realize they want to make a real marriage together. But when the parents throw their hands in the mix, disaster strikes. Will these two ever get the chance they need to make a go of it?
A fun book with drama, mystery and love!.

Jaryk Rullok-Myka is not a happy prince. His parents, the king and queen, have decided it’s time for him to marry, and they’ve chosen a wife. He wants to marry someone else, someone his father doesn’t approve of. Falkor, Jaryk’s brother, has a plan. He signs Jaryk up on Cosmic Mates. Kismet and Karma Kennedy are identical twins. They look alike, but that’s where the identical stops. Kismet is down to practical, quiet, and shy. Karma is perky, cheerful, and “in tune with the universe.” She signs the two of them up on Cosmic Mates. Jaryk comes up as a match for Kismet and the girls take off for Kaldor. When they arrive, things are not what they were expecting. A year. The girls get an adventure and Jaryk can marry whomever he wants. Not so easy when dealing with scheming siblings, an angry king, a concerned queen, interfering former girlfriends, and budding inconvenient feelings. This is another well-written and entertaining story in the Cosmic Mates series. There is some tension, and humor, and soul searching. The characters are interesting. Fast-paced and enjoyable story. I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout and voluntarily reviewed it.
Prince Jaryk was expected to marry the woman of his father’s choosing. He is in line to be king. His brother, Kaldor is the spare. He has the perfect plan, marry someone from Cosmic Mates. Jaryk is not about to follow that path. Kismet is just following her sister, Karma’s lead. They both would love to marry. But for Kismet it is more for love. And signing up for Cosmic Mates may help. When she is matched and her sister isn’t it is decided to go ahead anyway. I have to say that I was glad that Jaryk told Kismet about the plan before they got married. They both wanted love and surprise, the longer these two were together the closer they got. And what do they say about those that fight the attraction, they too shall fall. This was fate for them both. The story felt like Cinderella getting her prince. Love the Queen. She is making matches. Next is Falkor and Karma in Alien Spare. Looking forward to seeing these to fight it out.

Alien Heir is the seventh book in the Cosmic Mates series and another refreshing adventure of Sci-Fi Romance and fated mates. Prince Jaryk’s royal parents are determined it’s time he married and produced an heir, and have selected the perfect candidate. He doesn’t agree and his brother comes up with a loophole that will save him, If he is already married to a human bride from Galatic Matchmaking they will only have to stay married for a year. It would have been perfect if Jaryk had agreed to it. Little brother then takes it upon himself to go forward anyway. Kismet Kennedy and her twin sister Karma had both joined Galactic Matchmaking together. Who knew Kismet would be matched before Karma, and to none other than Jaryk and a little finagling from Karma. This nicely written story soon turns into more than a marriage of convenience, filled with family dynamics, a little drama, passion, humor, and despite interfering siblings a wonderful HEA.

I like the plot of this read. Finding love on an app is not new but finding love on an app to find an alien love is. Both of them were forced or tricked into using the app. Their first meeting was awkward which worked for the story. I liked that they both liked each other. There was some light bedroom scenes and a little drama. Overall kinda a sweet story. Not an instant love. What I did not like was the timeliness of the story. She had only been there a couple weeks and they had slept together twice then she gets whiney. He does love me, he is hiding secrets etc... if it had been longer in their relationship I could see he might be hiding things. Everyone has a past and she is on a new planet with new customs and rules. But yet at every little thing she was ready run and leave back to earth. I thought she was childish. There was not much in way of descriptions outside of the palace. It was a good read just could have had more.

This is the beginning of another fun duet of stories, this time for twin sisters, Kismet and Karma. Kismet signs up for Cosmic Mates at her sister’s urging, knowing that Karma wants to find love and a fab HEA. Kismet isn’t all that jazzed about it but wants to be with her sister. Imagine her surprise when she gets matched before her vivacious sister is. Prince Jaryk doesn’t want to marry the gal he detests that his father, the king, is demanding. He wants someone totally unsuitable… His brother, Prince Falkor, has a unique idea and signs his bro up for Cosmic Mates, without his knowledge. You know Jaryk and Kismet are going to get matched but they didn’t know how much their mischievous siblings were involved in that outcome. Lol! This was such a fun and romantic read with drama, secrets and steam. I giggled away at parts and closed the book with a big smile when I hit the end. It’s definitely entertaining and I can’t wait to read Karma’s story next :D
this was a fun short easy read story about a set of twins that decide to sign up for cosmic mates to stay together. kismet the quieter twin happens to get a match first although all is not what it first seems. when she meets her match who is a crown prince she discovers trickery has been done and he is not aware of her at all but they decide to marry anyway and use the escape clause in one year so each can move on because they have other plans. but things again don't go as planned. karma the twin goes with her and is being sneaky as is the princes younger brother. other ppl get involved and interfere as both the crown prince jaryk and kismet start to develop feelings for each other which causes several problems. good world building, nice character development and a fun cute short story. it could have used a bit more spice though in the heat dept part of the story as it was a bit bland.

Jaryk is the crown prince, his brother is Falkor, considered the spare. They speak about the fact that their parents have decreed that he cannot marry the woman he wants to, but that a woman has been picked and it’s not the one he would choose. Falkor tells him that he has a solution to the problem. Use Cosmic Mates and get married to someone else before their parents decide and maybe they’ll change their minds about the one he wants and when they do, divorce that wife to marry the one he wants. Jaryk considers his brothers thought process. This is Cosmic Mates book 7. I absolutely loved this book and enjoyed the storyline and the characters. The two sets of siblings are a riot, and the parents are pretty sneaky too. Grab this read and enjoy, make sure you read all of the rest of the series as well!.

Woohoo! I finished this book with the biggest grin on my face! It was that good! I absolutely loved this book, Prince Jaryk never sees Kismet coming. Mostly because his brother signed him up for Cosmic Mates without his consent lol. Kismet isn’t necessarily into being on Cosmic Mates either but is hoping she and her sister Karma will be matched to the same planet. Imagine her surprise when she’s matched first! Or was she? There are definitely some shenanigans going on…Both of these two have very sneaky siblings who also love them very much. The antics they get up to is pretty funny and the romance, once contemplated, is very sweet. I loved the smexy scenes and the drama that unfolded. Shocking confessions, secret lovers and a love that is real and enduring ensue. You are gonna want to read this nonstop start to finish. I received an ARC and am happily leaving my review.
"He felt an urge to kiss her again. This time for real."
Book one in a new duet, this time with an alien prince as the lead. Cosmic Mates has very little screen time and instead is just used to assist the couple to meet and marry quickly. The story takes place on the Prince's home planet, Kaldor, and includes meddling family members and a number of amusing secondary characters. Jaryk and Kismet are actually perfect for each other so there wasn't really that much drama. It was steamy-sweet and mostly focused on their love story.
The other book in this Duet, the upcoming "Alien Spare" is going to be Falkor and Karma's story. These two emotional hotheads spent the first book arguing and fighting, their attraction for each other obvious to everyone but themselves. I can't wait to read their story and also get a chance to catch-up with Kismet and Jaryk, as they live their hea.
This is a great story of Cosmic Mates getting it right again. Jaryk is the heir to the Kaldor throne but seems to be unable to find love. His father is arranging a marriage he doesn't want but thinks he is in love with a woman he had been having an affair with. Falkor is Jaryk's brother who gets him to sign up with Cosmic Mates to get a bride hoping during the year he will get over his mistakes. Kismet only joined the app because her twin sister Karma ddid and is surprised she is matched. They go to Kaldor and Kismet discovers Jaryk is the love of her life. Their HEA is full of fun with a bit of drama thrown in. A definite must-read.

What a fun read! When siblings interfere in your love life, drama will follow! Kismet just wants to be on the same planet with her twin, so when her sister applies to Cosmic Mates, she does too. Jarek didn't even apply to Cosmic Mates, his brother's did it for him. Let the fun begin!
This is the first in a pair of related books in the Alien Mates Series. There are 3 pairs that came before. You don't need to read the prior pairs, as each duet l, while related, stands alone. (You will want to read them, though, they are fun!).
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another delightful story in this series I'd read. This story is about Kismet Kennedy and Prince Jaryk Rullok-Myka. With resolution and trickery fate and kismet leaps abound in this enjoyable story as they navigate their relationship. Kismet and her sister Karma signed up for the Cosmic Mates program only Kismet got chosen first. The contract allows her to bring a handmaiden, so she brings her sister. What ensues was a well written entertaining story with twists and turns, likable characters, engaging dramatic encounters, and steamy romance in this alien romance copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
"...How are you going to stand up for our people if you won’t stand up for yourself?”
Kismet isn't really looking for marriage, even if a happily ever after with the one she loves has some appeal.
Jaryk is a crown prince with parents who are confident they know what is best for him -- arranged marriage and all.
This done in one book has a solid stand alone story with inviting characters who yearn to be open and honest with their partner, and maybe have life be a bit simpler than the Universe has thrown their way.
All in all, this is a good read that nicely sets up the next book.
I was gifted with a copy of Alien Heir and chose to share my thoughts.
4.25 stars. This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, male alien prince (Jaryk)/female human (Kismet), marriage of convenience romance. I enjoyed Kismet’s gentle optimism and sympathised with her distress over the secrets Jaryk kept from her. I enjoyed Jaryk’s dawning awareness that he wanted a real relationship with Kismet. I enjoyed the building intimacy. I adored the banter between their siblings and am looking forward to their story next.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Intrigues By Family Both Jaryk and Kismet are lured into a marriage through Cosmic Mates by family and both find the escape clause of one year a reason to enter into this marriage. They find they are extremely at ease with one another and slowly a more definite relationship is evolving. Until the meddling backfires and Jarik has to face his real feelings. He then has to work for his HEA. Lovely romantic story between an alien man and a human woman with all kinds of cultural differences to overcome. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Cara never fails to disappoint. I was hooked into this story from the beginning. Jaryk is expected to get married and he does not want to marry the woman that is chosen for him. His brother comes up with a solution by signing him up for Cosmic Mates. Then starts his adventure and meeting Kismet. These two were meant for one another. Nothing more fun to read when mates meet and all the conflict and things they need to overcome to be together. I so enjoyed this read and I cannot wait to read the brother's story.
This is book 7 in Cosmic Mates. Kismet and Jaryk both wanted to marry for love, but Jaryk's father set up an arranged marriage for an alliance. It took Jaryk's brother, Kismet's sister, and the Queen ( Jaryk's mother) to bring these two stubborn, but well matched couple together. I loved the characters and so ready to read if Karma ( Kismet's sister) and Falkor ( Jaryk's brother) find love between them. They protested and faught a lot throughout this book.

What do you do when you are being forced to marry a woman you do not love or care for? As a Prince going again the King and Queen has consequences. Signing up for a match on Cosmic Mates seems like the perfect solution, there is an escape clause that will get him out of the marriage and hopefully the King and Queen will decide his lover is a better option than a human. I love this story, there are unexpected feelings after Jaryk and Kismet meet, with a few twists and turns as well as some surprises along the way.
This Book 7 in The Cosmic Mates Book Series has an interesting Alien Romance story, a well-crafted world, and intriguing characters. These characters have unique personalities, detailed histories, and believable interactions. This story has The Cosmic Mates program, the Prince's parent's setting up an arranged marriage he does not want, his brother finds a loophole, a marriage of convenience, she does not want love, she does not want to be separated from her sister, conspiring siblings, drama, twists, turns, chemistry, romance, and love.
Both Kismet and Jarryk don't anticipate falling for each other, even though they're matched through the mates program. What's so funny is that they tiptoe around each other trying to deny their attraction, all while keeping to their original agreement, or finding their way through to a new normal. There's passion and magnetism, but there are forces trying to rip them apart. It's a rollicking romantic adventure and I was glad to be up for the ride!.

Cara Bristol consistently delivers enjoyable books. As the Spare Prince, he doesn't feel like he's as important to anyone as his brother. But when his parents cook up an arranged marriage, Prince Jaryk Rullok-Myka decides he'd better take over and romance his brother's bride's twin sister. The characters are cute, it's funny with plenty of banter, and sexy, they are so determined not to like each other. I enjoyed the banter between these two it was a sweet romantic story that I can recommend to everyone.
