With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

This is book one of a three book set. The first books, have Cassie & Karen stories. Both are full stories in the same book. Book two has Gina & Emma story. Again both full stores in the same book. Book three is Lauren's story alone. I read all the time and also do a number of ARC's for authors. My biggest wish would be that authors would note, put in the title something when books are part of a series. I can not count how may times I have read a really good story to find it is either part 2 or 3.
This happen with these three books, I picked up book two from a thrift store then went and bought 1 & 2. The books should really be read in order. That being said, these books are about 5 women who meet in school, got into a ton of trouble were the Calamity Jane's name come from. They have been friends for life. The all have secrets, problems, have had or will have broken hearts, children and find men with their own set of secrets and problems, things in their past that make their out look on some topics hard to deal with. I love this set of books, Sherryl has a way of making you feel like you are right there in the town of Winding River, Wyoming. You feel their pain, joy, heartbreak and maybe just maybe their love and happy ever after.
If you have nothing to do for a couple of days or week get these three books, lots of snacks, and drinks and settle in for the read of a life time.
I will be re reading these probably more then once.
Sherryl Woods is a new author for me and I have not read one of her books that I haven't fallen in love with..

A friend (MH) sent me this book in a box of books. I have read Sherryl Woods before but I don't think I've read anything else from The Calamity Janes series. This book contains 2 stories (both I think previously published separately) that related Gina's and Emma's stories and how Winding River, Wyoming pulls them back.

The name Calamity Janes apparently stems from their friendship in school and the trouble they got into back then. The origin of the friendship isn't talked about much in these two books. In the intervening years, both title characters have moved away: Gina did culinary courses in Europe and then opened a restaurant in New York. Emma went to law school and is now a high-powered attorney in Denver.

Both these stories take place around the time of a high school reunion. It's hard to tell which story was written first, though I suspect Emma's might have been written before Gina's only because Gina's contains details that Emma's leaves out.

My biggest issue, which is true of almost all the Sherryl Woods books I've read so far, is that the main characters seem to have a penchant for dropping into the bed of their love interest long before their relationship has really been defined.

In high school, 5 friends called themselves the Calamity Janes. This book has 2 of their stories: Gina, a chef, and lawyer Emma. Both were betrayed by someone close to them, making it very hard for them to trust men. But the guys after them don’t give up. Both women finally find their happiness.

Great read....even woke up at 3:05am and read for another hour. This was book 3 and 4 in the Calamity Janes Series....so I read them out of order, but it doesn’t matter. Sherryl Woods wrote 5 stories in 5 book taking place at the same time.....brilliant!

Sherryl Woods tale of the Calamity Janes: Gina & Emma continues. It starts with Gina's story. She has a famous restaurant in New York City and was doing well until money wasn't there to pay the bills. She always had her partner handling all the money and the books. Big mistake. The investors have hired Rafe to find out what is going on. When Rafe and Gina meet there is an immediate and strong dislike for each other. That is when things get interesting.

Then there is Emma's story. She is a popular lawyer in Denver and a workaholic. She also has a six year old daughter, Caitlyn, that does not see nearly enough of her mother. They both go back home to Winding River for Emma's class reunion and things start to happen. Caitlyn loves it at her parents house. Of course they have horses and Gina's father spoils Caitlyn. Emma had a disastrous marriage to Caitlyn's father and because of events that happened at that time she has absolutely no trust of journalists and men. Then along comes Ford, the new owner of the towns newspaper. There is an instant attraction but it doesn't look like Emma will ever let those walls down.

This was only a tiny taste of all that happens with Gina and Emma. If you are a Sherryl Woods fan you will not be disappointed.

Good stories. This is a "two-fer", with two complete stories in it. One is about the chef and the lawyer pursuing her for possible fraud, and one is about the lawyer amongst the five high school friends and the newspaper man she is attracted to but can't trust. Each story is absolutely self-contained and can be read in any order because they take place more or less simultaneously. Without spoilers. When the case the lawyer was handling with Sue Ellen was mentioned in the chef's book, I got the impression that Sue Ellen was a fellow lawyer and they were trying some case together. It's not a spoiler to tell you that is not the case. I thoroughly enjoyed both these stories, and the fact that I wanted on occasion to smack almost all the characters upside the head at one time or another only serves to tell you it's good stuff.

This is a 2 story book. The first story is about Gina and her problems with her restaurant. In New York City. She decides to go back home to meet with friends and figure out what to do. The 2nd story in the book is about Emma a high powered attorney. She and Gina are 2 of 5 best friends from high school that go back home for the reunion and meet the men they are destined to be with.

Entertaining easy read. OK, there are 5 "Janes". The first two found men and happiness in the first book. Two more are happily ever after in this book. The plot hints at trouble for the fifth Jane. Will she have her own book or share with a male high school friend who is moving away to find his dream? Nice beach read..no thinking.

I love these two stories. Gina and Emma seem to have the same problems that some of us do...and I love the fact that the girls all got back together for a High School Reunion. Very Interesting reads.

I really enjoyed this one. I thought Emma's story went on for a little too long, but overall an entertaining and good read.

Liked Gina's story more than I did Emma's. The characters were likeable enough and the setting was alright.
