****Full Review****

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Olivia is experiencing a little bit of wrong place and wrong time. After being taken hostage because of issues to do with her CIA sister Eve and then rescued by one hot operative named Landon (Extreme Measures), Olivia's normal staid existence isn't cutting it anymore. With months of flirty texting back and forth between them, Olivia decides to surprise visit Landon in Spain where he is just finishing up a job. The surprise is on her though when a sexy woman appears in his hotel room and Olivia finds herself taken hostage once again as she runs down the street trying to get away from Landon. Landon barely has time to process Olivia showing up in Spain before he is battling a lethal woman in his hotel room and then taken in a van with Olivia. Landon and Olivia not only fight for survival but for a chance to prove to one another what they're really made of.

The suspense aspect of this gets rolling right away, the Red Brotherhood terrorist group makes a splash and our characters are running and fighting for their lives. Not only is a highly feared terrorist group involved but also a world defining serum that can be injected into a human body that would be able to track them undetected (think political leaders and knowing exactly where they are for assassination purposes). Dani, a girl that Landon once saved, is the only one who can create the antidote and perfect the serum and only he knows where she is, hence the abduction and leverage Olivia can provide. The Red Brotherhood injects Olivia with the serum to force Landon to travel to Dani for the antidote, the serum kills whoever is injected with it right now, thus revealing her hideout. A bunch of secondary characters from the previous book and future books make appearances (mostly operatives in the Aegis Security Agency) and help Landon and Olivia fight the good fight. Is this all a wee bit farfetched and possibly not very accurate? Yes, but Jason Statham movies are extremely popular for a reason, they are exciting and fun. If you're willing to roll with this story it will provide a quick rip roaring good time.

As with the suspense scenes, the sex scenes don't mess around and come up quick. There is a little bit of missed them falling in love as Olivia and Landon met in the previous book but the author does a credible job of showing and telling why these two characters feel so connected to one another. Olivia has a few annoying moments when she balks at the killing and violence (if I'm ever taken hostage by a terrorist group feel free to snap as many necks as you need to free me) of it all, making it a bit heavy handed with her innocence and goodness. She also has a couple TSTL moments with unnecessarily endangering herself, listen to the professional lady! Landon is the star of the show in this book, think of it as if Quinn from Homeland got placed in a romance story. He's a trained assassin who has had emotion systematically trained out of him but after meeting Olivia his heart is starting to beat again. He is strong, capable, and interesting to follow and read about. Olivia and Landon are very black and white but together they work.

If you like action movies with some precision timed sex scenes are willing to go with the flow and want a quick thrilling read, Lethal Consequence is for you. There seems to be plenty of heroes in the wings too, I’m especially going to be on the lookout for Jake the boss and Marley the sassy assistant's book.

*I was able to mention Jason Statham and Quinn from Homeland in one review! Such a big win for me :)

So here it is, an Elisabeth Naughton book.. I grabbed it and was prepared to face yet another sleepless night. After all this is Elisabeth we are speaking about. What a build up, right? The question is, did it live up to it's billing?

Lethal Consequences is the second full book in her Aegis Security Series and I will admit I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It built off the relationships in Extreme Measures, bringing in siblings and co workers. Relationships have already been established and we already have a perception of who these characters are.. Except Elisabeth being Elisabeth shows us a depth of character that tosses all of our perceptions out the window.

Olivia Wolfe was an almost stereotypical teacher in a small town. A staid, normal life until she was kidnapped and used as a pawn for her sister. Held hostage and surviving only because she was successfully "extracted". Her hero, savior, superman remained firmly in her mind. Having become text buddies and long distance friends, Olivia decided to be daring and break out of her boring predictable life and visit him while she was in Europe (which she totally engineered so she could be "in the neighborhood). Only nothing ever works out that easily.

Landon Miller thinks Olivia is just about the perfect woman. A woman he wouldn't mind having a relationship with. Only Landon doesn't trust relationships, doesn't "do" relationships. And with Olivia?? No way could he possibly be good enough for her.. and her sister... Olivia is definitely hands off. So what does he do? He brings a babe back to his hotel room only to have Olivia knocking on his door... Oooops.

There is your intro.. the main story involves, kidnapping, poisoning, danger, terrorists and assorted dangerous situations. And a passion that defies logic, family expectations and personal limitations.

Seriously, who wouldn't love this book?

Elisabeth once again manages to create two dynamic characters that charge right in. A strong female lead with an unusual background. One kind of expects Olivia to be a doormat (except Elisabeth doesn't write doormats). What we get is a quiet, refined woman who hides a passionate inner core. And Landon? Well he's one of those men who is there for everyone, committed to duty and totally self depreciating.. Just dynamic characters.

Once again, I find myself so enthralled with a book I can't review it properly. I suppose the best thing I can say about this book, is I got so lost in the story I forgot I was supposed to review it.

Another great book, thanks Elisabeth!

Lethal Consequences by Elisabeth Naughton is a 2015 Montlake publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love romantic suspense and enjoy a story with a little something going for it besides the tried and true themes that have been done countless times before. This story is action packed with a twist you won't see coming, one that changes the entire scope of of the story into one whale of a white knuckled race against time.

Olivia, a good girl school teacher with an ordinary life found herself in serious trouble after being kidnapped. Now that Olivia is home safe and sound and back to her old life, she feels something is missing. First of all, she practically hero worships Landon Miller, the man who rescued her. He has even been texting her see if she holding up all right. So, Olivia decides to step outside her comfort zone and meet up with the hot agent who saved her life. But, when she surprises him at his hotel, she is stunned to find he has company... an Angelina Jolie look alike and the two were just about to get busy.

Landon Miller can't get the innocent and sweet Olivia out of his mind. He knows he can't really be with her because of the agencies he works for and the things he has had to do. Olivia deserves better than that, so to get her out of his mind , he picks up a stranger in a bar and takes her to his room. But, his heart and body isn't in it. The very last person on earth he expects to show up at his door is Olivia.

Landon and Olivia won't have time to dwell on that awkward situation for long because the woman Landon picked up at the bar just happens to be a member of the Red Brotherhood. Unbelievably, Olivia once more becomes a kidnap victim. While being held hostage she learns the terrible truth about Landon Miller. He is not the hero she believed him to be, in fact he's a cold stone killer.

The Romance:
Landon is that type of hero- the dark, brooding, damaged, flawed and broken man that women feel like holding and and nurturing. But, in this case, Landon was not at all a man I felt I could trust. I never feared for Olivia, but I wondered if he had lost his ability to value human life after performing his unorthodox duties. I could understand Eve's concern for her sister even if she was way to overprotective of Olivia. As a result I had a little trouble with the romance part of the story for long time. The chemistry was definitely in place, but it was the evidence of real and true love that develops over time that made me a true believer.

The Drama:

I understood that Olivia had survived a harrowing ordeal once before and was having a hard time going back to her normal routine, working at a job her heart wasn't really into, and feeling like she needed to take charge of her life and make her own choices and decisions even if it meant she made mistakes or got hurt. It wasn't her sister's right nor Landon's to dictate to Olivia what was right or wrong for her and it certainly wasn't their right to keep very large pieces of information from her at a most critical junction in her life.

The Suspense

As for the suspense element, this plot was maybe a little ahead of our time, at least to our knowledge.
I liked that part though because it gave the reader something to think about, as a possible threat in bio terrorism and what someone might be working on in a lab right his minute. An old case comes back on Landon in spades. Now Olivia is being used to flesh out someone Landon has been trying to protect.
From here the story could have gotten a little maudlin, but it stayed focused on the right track until the very end which was till a little poignant. I do wish we could touch base with some of the players in this book in the future because I do hope they will find the kind of love and peace Olivia and Landon have managed to achieve.

While some elements in the story were a little over the top and did test the plausibility limits I was entertained, so that's really all that matters. If you like fast paced action, suspense and steamy romance this book is one you will enjoy. Overall 4 stars.

3.5 Stars. Decent enough story, but had too much extraneous and unnecessary 'stuff' padding it out. A tighter editing, and it would have made a nice novella. The start was slow, but the last part fast-paced and exciting.

It has been a little disappointing. The story sure that had possibilities but, at the end, it has fallen into all the clichés that I don't like when I read a romantic suspense. What a pity!
The romance, IMO, had been ridiculous. Not very credible, based on the number of orgasms she has each time that, according to them, they make love, according to me, they have sex. It becomes tiresome so many orgasms without end... The protagonist, Olivia, does not more stupid things because there are no more pages in the book. Typical case of character TSTL, although half the time she do not come to do anything, that doesn't mean that "the intention is what counts". She is a school teacher and the author shows her to us like a fragile and tender person one moment and the next she is a force of nature, firing and behaving as a tough girl. I cannot believe it. And, of course, Landon, the protagonist, is not far behind... everyone thinks that he is a badass without feelings until she (Olivia) arrives and he becomes Prince Charming. The rest of the characters tried to separate the MC´s because all of them think that Landon is not the best choice for Olivia, but of course, all of them are wrong… I do not why, because they know him a long time ago…
On top of all this we have to read the reasons, through repetitive inner dialogue, of why they cannot be together... She is too good for him, she deserves something better, she is not tall, pretty or hot enough for him… etc… And all this happens in almost each chapter.
I found interesting the relationship that begins to be developed between two side characters, Ryder and Marlen, I will take a look at the next book, I think that if the MC´S are more mature, they will do less stupidities.
The thriller is based in elements of science fiction, I don´t mind it if they are explained but in this case they seem to me like an excuse to muddle trough.
So I think you would like this story if you like insta-lust, you don´t mind TSTL characters and science fiction without explanation.

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. I liked both Olivia and Landon. The story was good and pretty fast paced...there was a decent amount of angst and drama in the story but it wasn't to the point of being annoying (or depressing).

Olivia is a school teacher who teaches drama. She's also the sister of Eve, the heroine from book #1, Extreme Measures. During that book, Olivia was kidnapped and then rescued by Landon. Olivia is very attracted to Landon and is interested in cultivating more between them.

Landon is an undercover operative (part of the DIA) and has had to do some bad stuff for his job and country. When things got to be too much he was granted leave for a year and ended up working (off the books) for Aegis security. It was while working for Aegis that he helped rescue Olivia and now his leave is almost over. He has no choice other than to go back to the DIA because it isn't the kind of job you walk away from alive.

So, Olivia's kidnapping and subsequent rescue by Landon was around 3 months before this story. They started texting each other after that and have texted daily for the last 3 months. Landon knows he's no good for Olivia and tells himself he has to stop but he has trouble making himself actually stop. He's in Barcelona finishing up a bodyguard detail for Aegis and since it's his last job before going back to the DIA, Landon figures he can't stall it anymore and he'll have to say goodbye to Olivia. His way of trying to get over Olivia is to pick up a woman in the hotel bar. Unfortunately, He picks the wrong chick and ends up a member of the Red Brotherhood in his room just as Olivia arrives to surprise him. When she sees the one night stand in Landon's room, Olivia storms off and the woman almost kills Landon before the terrorists end up getting them both.

Olivia and Landon do escape but there's a lot going on that keeps them on the run and gives them plenty to do even once they're able to meet up with Aegis and achieve relative safety. It's pretty obvious (except to each other) that they desperately want to be together. One of the major impediments is Landon's tenancy to stick his foot in his mouth. He didn't have a good home life growing up so even when he realizes he loves Olivia, he has a lot of trouble expressing that. Also, the fact that he's going back into the DIA is an issue because that's not the kind of position you have a normal life with. Olivia really wants to be with Landon but is willing to walk away when he's being too much of an ass. I liked that she wouldn't let him walk all over her. Because of this, there was a decent amount of drama/angst in the story. Thankfully, they're able to get through the obstacles and such and things work out so that Olivia and Landon end the story with a nice HEA.

I found this story to be pretty enjoyable. Olivia wasn't perfect but I liked her and was rooting for her. I liked Landon as well. Even when he was behaving like an ass you just knew he didn't really mean it. And to be honest, most of the issues were more about him sticking his foot in his mouth than him purposefully trying to be mean. The story was pretty good and kept me engaged through the end so I'd recommend it. :)

ARC REVIEW

This review posted originally at Love Affair with an E-Reader

Landon Miller is a contract worker for Aegis Securities, but his real job is as an agent for the Defense Intelligence Agency. He is in essence an assassin. I don’t begin to know how that kind of work impacts a person’s psyche, but for Landon it makes him a well-honed weapon without remorse. It is only when he meets and spends time with Olivia that his conscience also begins to grow and his vulnerabilities are revealed. She makes him rethink this life:

“…the way she made him feel, the person he was when he was with her – this was the right choice. She was worth fighting for. And he was willing to do anything to prove that to her.

When Landon finally takes a leap of faith and falls for Olivia, you just want to pump your fist and say, “YES!!!”

Olivia Wolfe is a school teacher from Idaho. We first meet her in book 1 of the Aegis series, Extreme Measures, as Eve’s sister. She is caught in the middle of a terrorist plot to steal and sell a biological weapon. Through it all, her ability to overcome obstacles has caused her to also look at her own future trajectory. Is there more to her life than teaching drama? I’m thinking that there is a future story with this kernel.

I often have reservations when I read books where the hero is in special ops and the heroine is a civilian. Usually you find an imbalance of power and the women tend toward TSTL (too stupid to live) moments, and the need to be rescued. This author does a wonderful job making Olivia strong on multi-levels. She really holds her own against the assassins.

IN A NUTSHELL:
This one hits the spot. More, please.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Elisabeth Naughton can write well, and she knows how to draw out the suspense -- as is proper for a Romantic Suspense book. I really enjoyed the relationship as it developed from a past story when the heroine was extracted from a kidnapping scenario by the hero.

Of course, these two characters could not be more different in their usual environments. Landon Miller has been taking time off from his work in a secret government group [seems he was an assassin, among other things] and working as an operative for the Aegis Group. Olivia Wolfe was a drama teacher, and she took a leave of absence to fly to Barcelona to meet Landon, unbeknownst to him, and what she discovers when she knocks on his door would send many young women fleeing right back to the airport for a return trip home.

However, both Landon and Olivia end up embroiled in an international search for one of his previous "clients," and are in a chase against time when they are confronted by some really bad people who also want this young scientist for their own nefarious purposes. I really had to suspend believe only at the knock on the door scene in Chapter 2 and the resolution at the very end of the book, which did seem unreal to me. Perhaps a few more paragraphs would have explained why the decision was really accepted by the spooks!

Rather than give spoilers, I recommend that, if you like Romantic Suspense stories with strong heroines and heroes who have a lot of angst about their pasts, you find a copy of this book asap. You will not regret reading it.

I downloaded a copy of this book from the net galley site to my Kindle.

I was first introduced to Elisabeth Naughton’s writing when a friend recommended her Stolen Trilogy; – I now highly recommended that series to others. While I have read (and enjoyed) the majority of the installments in her paranormal series, the Eternal Guardians, I prefer her suspense writing.

The author did an amazing job with this second full-length novel of the Aegis Security series. Both Olivia and Landon were written with such a heartrending impact that I felt their anguish. Even during those seemly meaningless moments the undertones spoke of distress and loneliness. Mixing suspense with romance must be handled skillfully - ensuing proper balance is maintained. This is not a fairytale romance…the characters are put through hell (a few times).

The author hit the target with this story.

I really enjoyed this action adventure romance! This was the first story I've read by this author and I wasn't sure what to expect, but from the first page the story starts off strong and continues the whole way through. The chemistry between Olivia and Landon is evident right from their first encounter and continues throughout, leading to some wickedly sexy love scenes. The secondary characters, in particular Landon's teammates added some humour to the story and were a key part of the plot. The action scenes were well written and believable. The whole story was a really fun read. I'll definitely look for more from this author. 4 stars.

4-1/2 stars!
The sex is steamy and heart pounding, and the thrills and intrigue of LETHAL CONSEQUENCES show why Naughton is the queen of romantic suspense. I've been a longtime fan of Elisabeth Naughton, and I think LETHAL CONSEQUENCES is one of her finest works to date. The suspense keeps getting tauter, and the mystery combined with romance make a swoon-worthy ending.

What a ride.. nothing but GOOD writing and a fast paced plot. OMG H/H interactions. I loved both of them.

Yes I would recommend this !

I had gotten the Audiobook to listen to. It was read by Cole Ferguson who did an amazing job. There are so many books written by the MPOV but read by females. What a great voice match for the book.

Whoever Said Women are the Weaker Sex is Crazy

Unlike a white board, the human brain can't merely be wiped clean to rid itself of trauma. And contrary to popular opinion, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution. So when Olivia Wilde doesn't wig out after being abducted by Chechen terrorists, her savior Landon Miller does. In book two of the Aegis series, "Lethal Consequences" Landon has been secretly carrying on an online relationship with Olivia. Miller has had a long career as an assassin, first for DIA and currently for Aegis but now he wants a legitimate job, one he doesn't have to conceal or cloak in euphemisms, even if it is for the greater good. Landon Miller desperately wants to feel normal even though he's also dead certain he doesn't deserve it.

Olivia couldn't be more different than her sister Eve if she tried; from career choice to appearance and mannerisms - Olivia teaches drama at a high school in Boise, Idaho whereas Eve works very hard as an agent as well as trying to protect Olivia from herself. Olivia resents being treated like a child and yet that resentment manifests itself in childlike behavior such as the secret online relationship with Landon Miller which results in Olivia's spur of the moment decision to leave her teaching job, hop a flight to Spain and surprise Miller at his hotel room unannounced. Miller had simultaneously chosen fhat evening to rid himself of lustful thoughts of Olivia by taking a strange woman from the hotel bar to his room. Oops!

But things are not always what they seem. Landon's indiscretion is actually a ploy to divert attention from a terrorist group known as the Red Brotherhood that is seeking information on a top-secret deadly bio-weapon. Now Olivia is caught up in their nefarious plot and Landon can pile on even more guilt. Olivia just wants to get home alive but to do that she'll have to trust Landon and that now seems nearly impossible.

The second book in the Aegis series isn't quite as heart-pounding as the first, due in part to the internal self-flagellation from the protagonist. Author Elisabeth Naughton got a bit heavy-handed with Miller continuously beating himself up over his past sins. Yes they were grave sins and yes they should/would be the cause of self-recrimination but the author shouldn't allow it to be a drag on the pacing. As a reader I can appreciate the need to give the protagonist an opportunity to redeem himself. That felt right but get to it, get it done and move on so the story doesn't falter. That said, there are some surprising twists and turns that add to the suspense and the love scenes are hot enough to curl the wallpaper. So get your beverage of choice, some light snacks and curl up on the couch for a riveting good read. Four stars.

This is not as good as the first book. Olivia acts like a petulant little girl who stubbornly has to have her way even in life threatening situations.

Elisabeth did not create a convincing storyline where I believed Landon and Olivia should be together. On the contrary, if I were Landon, I would run as far away from her whiney, stubborn, silly personality and get a more stable mature woman. Elisabeth kept emphasizing that Olivia just wasn't Landon's type because she is skinny and flat chested. This physical description was intended to be negative but compared to her personality, these physical qualities are her most positive attributes.

During an escape, she stops their getaway vehicle and makes Landon convince her that he is not a cold hearted murderer, that although he may have to murder, she wants to be convinced that he doesn't like it. Why? Because he killed 2 terrorists who were in league with their kidnappers.....and who were probably the two men who tortured Landon....Olivia was upset because at the time Landon killed them they weren't doing anything wrong. Give me a break!

Who uses their entire life savings to surprise a man in Barcelona with the hope, a big hope I might add, that he feels the same way about you that you feel about him. Your hope is that you'll get lucky and he will be glad to see you. Well you got lucky because he was surprised and glad to see you. But oh no, too bad he has another women in his room. Olivia is such a jerk!

I could not finish reading the book.....couldn't get past chapter 10 actually. I tried, I really did, but for someone who is on the run from assassins, terrorists and kidnappers, she does some really stupid, super silly and unrealistic things.

Such a tragedy that poor Landon gets stuck with Olivia. He deserves more than her.

I hope the next book is better.

Much to Like, But . . .

The characters are easy to care about, the terrorist plotline was suspenseful, and I really liked that five of the characters from previous Aegis stories were present and meaningfully involved giving Aegis more a family feel. The problem was that nothing quite made sense, from Olivia's impulsive choice to fly to Spain to surprise Land on while he was finishing a job and leaving Spain the next morning to the dangerous science and scientist the terrorists want to get their hands on. Without revealing spoilers I can't explain why it made never quite made sense. Also, while this novel is a good set up for the final novel in the series, it made me sad to know Aussie Mick Headley, who appeared twice in the five stories still available in print, never got his story told. These two characters had major transitions in who they'd been before knowing each other to who they become in this novel. As I result the changes felt abrupt and the ending left a lot of questions.

Aegis 2

Olivia has been through everything she thought one person could go through for a lifetime but soon she finds out differently. Landon is completing his final job for Aegis to return to the DIA when he finds himself in a no win situation. Olivia shows in Barcelona to spend a few days with him but soon finds out things are not always want they seem. Will Landon and Olivia have their happily ever after or will she live to see tomorrow?

Landon and Olivia texting for the last few months, while he was an assignment. Now completed, she decides to surprise him in Barcelona..The surprise turns into a nightmare , when they are kidnapped, when someone wants information about a former op. Love, suspense will kept readers to this second book, a good story to continue with the first, the plot flows, and you like the characters.

This book was ridiculous. Totally predictable. Annoying characters and stupid fight scenes, oh and lets not forget to have a whole bunch of inner thoughts in the middle of a fight. Constant eye rolling during this entire book. Olivia was way too whiny. The sex scenes were too much. UGH

Pass on this.

Audio- I absolutely loved Landon and Olivia! I loved them from the first book. Landon is just ugh heart melting. I loved him! The ending! I knew he was going to leave it all behind for her. I'm so glad they got their happy ending especially after everything liv had to go through. Smut was ok. Needed more!!! Overall super good.

Not in order

So the series of these novels wasn't read in order. I enjoyed listening to this book. This was by far for me the best one. First books I have read by Elisabeth. Thanks

Excellent tale continuing the Aegis story with secondary characters from Extreme Measures (and fairly blatantly setting up the couple for the next book in the series). Not quite as much action as the first, but in some ways even more powerful due to the stakes involved.

I love my books with lots of actions both in the bedroom and on the field. Elisabeth's books never disappoint. The stories are full of suspense, action, drama and plenty of steamy sex scenes. Landon and Olivia could not be any hotter together it's steam galore. Brilliant read

4.5*

I'd give this book a 5* rating if Livy didn't make a few really stupid decisions! Very well written, exciting, suspenseful, and very hot!! I love a good redemption story!

Continuation of a great series

I liked that the main characters in this book were supportive ones in the first book. The author did not make it an easy ride.
