Aldnoah Zero

Rate this book
Humanity has clearly split into two and currently there is no way these groups will once again unite. Humanity celebrates this transient time of peace as they slowly dismiss from their minds the scars their ancestors bore in the past. No one realized that with one little push their world can fall to its destruction.

For all the excitement I had, I was also rather disappointed in both the art and the pacing. While the art isn’t bad, it felt too simple and I really wished it would look a bit more like the newer series. There were also some things I noticed with anatomy and stiffness in the body, the necks disappearing sometimes…None of the panels stuck out to me, which could have been different if there’d been more detail or contrast. The fight scenes especially eluded me as I couldn’t follow what was happening (not enough details or panels dedicated to the action). Really, I could only follow because I’d watched the anime.

Time was also something I had to always double check. When the story starts, the news is announcing that Asseylum was due to arrive on Earth in three days time and without any type of transition, we get Asseylum already on Earth.

These jumps felt like they’d fit in better in the anime and that the necessary changes weren’t made for the manga.

2.5 stars for me. I had difficulty at times following what exactly was happening and who the characters were. This happens often to me when reading action-driven manga. I think there must be something I'm missing when reading, or perhaps the style is to give the general gist and specifics and character development are irrelevant. But either way, it undermines my interest.
The plot reminded me of old anime like Robotech. Humanity discovered the remains of a technologically advanced civilization on Mars. Those who took the technology became a superior power and the humans of Mars and Earth go to war. Mars won, a truce was declared. Now the first Princess of Mars is going to Earth on a diplomatic tour, but when something goes wrong on the tour, war is declared. So the story quickly turns to battle between airplanes and giant robots manned by people.

FYI this is not yet Manga, but an original anime series - though the first manga novel based on this series was published sometime around July or August 2014. It was extremely riveting and the ending just sucks the heart right out of you, if you know what I mean

This manga is all right, but the anime is much better--more dynamic, and things make a lot more sense when you actually see them happening, with colour and motion and such.

First up ~ I had to have the comic shop order these directly from the distributor. Since there's only 4x volumes and they are out of stock on V3, I'm going to have to dig that one up. While I wanted to be able to do a full read through in one shot, I'm going to have to set it aside while I locate V3 and order it.

Next ~ I've been intrigued by this series ever since hearing the music from it as done by Amanda Lee (AmaLee) and her lyrics for it.

This is the first mecha-anime-based manga I've read. Piles of characters with little / no introduction. The pace is fast and a lot of the action is implied, I assume due to the limited space of the format. At times, it was particularly challenging to follow what was happening / who was involved with each combat / sequence... We'll see how V2 goes and if it'll help to re-read at a later date.

This manga adaption of the hit anime is atypical, in that the manga usually comes first however Aldnoah Zero started as a show. This adaption is solid, but falls far short of the TV series. Pinakes artwork is great, and channels the show wonderfully but the story itself feels choppy. Parts of it are drawn out, while other scenes are almost glossed over. This jagged pacing makes for a story that doesn't flow well, and there isn't anything really extra from the TV series on top of that. Overall I'd say this is worth checking out if you won't watch the show but are interested, or are a die hard AZ fan. Otherwise it's skippable.

I like sci-fi and space, but I don't think action based manga is for me. I could hardly tell what was even taking place on the page because everything was just explosions. Explosions drawn in black and white do nothing for me as it just looks like ink blobs or harsh lines on a page. Most manga I've read is 5 or 6 chapters long. This one was only 3 and it definitely felt like more was needed to get this story going even though this was only a first volume.
The story was interesting enough for me to finish this volume but I don't see myself continuing on with the series.

Normally, I'm use to watching the anime and reading the manga to see what was left out of the anime. This was not the case as the first volume was almost line for line of the anime. While not always a bad thing, for this series it is. The mecha design is beautiful and the story around everyone but the main protagonist was great. He is way to one dimensional for my taste and leaves me rooting for the bad guys. Would give it higher, but just can't because of him.

I really wanted to like this story but just couldn’t get into it. I dug the artwork, it’s not the greatest art I’ve ever seen, but I still liked the art. Stories pacing was weird and I had a hard time telling who was who. This is apparently based on an anime and I honestly kind of wanna check out the anime and skip out on reading the rest of the manga if it’s anything like this one. Definitely not the best mech manga I’ve ever read.

I was rather excited to read this series at first after experiencing the anime. Although I'm not quite sure this series suits being in a manga format so far.

Feels really slow, the characters (other than the mc) are quite bland and I can't seem to get any sort of connection with them.

The bright spark would be that I really liked the art in this volume (I havent read any mech manga so I havent got reference for that) along with the cover and back! Both of which are amazing!!

I found this book/volume rather boring, and I wasn't really invested in the story while reading. A lot of the characters looked the same, and I kept getting them mixed up. I will probably watch the anime, and I hope that it will be better than this was.

The story is told pretty well; the art is good. My problem is that the good guys are perfect and the bad guys are devils. The story also glorifies war. It is not my cup of tea!

Manga ini lumayan namun karena ada animenya yg luar biasa, manga ini jadi di luar ekspektasi hhe.
Setidaknya utk karakter Inoha terkesan kaku, Pinakes kurang luwes dalam menggambarnya

A good start to the series. I am glad I had previously watched the anime though as the action panels were a bit confusing to follow exactly what was going on otherwise.

Interesting, especially if you like Gundam-style mecha, but ultimately confusing. The character names are wildly unpronouncable, and there are a lot of characters to remember who have very little introduction.

Gambarnya lumayan sih. Ada beberapa bagian yang bingung.
Ceritanya menurutku oke.

Reread 2025: It's AZ, so it's an automatic 11/10 but Yuki's drawing didn't make it into the manga :(

(And why were the "look! a wishing star!" children changed.)
