In Russell The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Premier Point Guards , you'll read about the inspirational story of basketball's rising superstar point guard, Russell Westbrook. Russell Westbrook's ascent into the top ten point guards in the NBA amongst the likes of Chris Paul, Steve Nash, and Rajan Rondo has definitely been a surprise. From once struggling to make his high school varsity team (he did not make it until his junior year) to spending his freshman year at UCLA as a benchwarmer, few would have predicted that Russell Westbrook would be selected as the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. The rest is history as the Oklahoma City Thunder continue their quest for a championship.

Russell Westbrook is easily one of the most exciting point guards to play the game of basketball. From flashy crossovers to high flying dunks, Russell Westbrook has a bright basketball career ahead of him. When Kevin Durant came down with a foot injury, Russell Westbrook rose as a primary leader for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It will be exciting to see how Westbrook and the Thunder do in this year's 2015-2016 NBA playoffs with the return of both Westbrook and Kevin Durant to full health.

Here is a preview of what is inside this

An excerpt from the
The Western Conference is never an easy battle, and the Thunder will need Westbrook in order to secure their first title. But Westbrook, who has been so continually doubted throughout his career, is used to pressure. He went from a player who failed to make his high school varsity team until his junior year and a college bench player to the #4 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. There were doubts about whether he should have been picked that high, but Westbrook’s hard work and dedication to basketball helped him steadily develop into one of the premier point guards in the NBA. Yet even at that pinnacle, there remain doubts about his play. Does he have the emotional temperament to remain the second star of the Thunder behind Durant? Is he too selfish, too concerned with looking out for his own numbers? Can a point guard be one of the main options for a championship team in what has traditionally been a league dominated by big men? The doubts were seemingly quelled after Oklahoma City’s defeat against the Grizzlies without Westbrook, but as Oklahoma City still managed to win 59 games in 2013-14 despite Westbrook missing over half the season, they have started up again. No matter what happens, the complaints will likely never disappear until the Thunder win in the NBA Finals.

Rather than respond directly to those who doubt him, Westbrook simply gets ready for just another game, whether against the Grizzlies or any other elite team in the league. Night after night, game after game, Westbrook thunders down the court, either leaping for a vicious slam dunk or passing it to another player for an easy basket. As he grabs yet another basket or assist, a wristband on his left arm dangles. Two words are inscribed on it. Two words which serve as answer to every question that he has heard, whether in the past or present.

Russell Westbrook: The Inspiring Story of One of Basketball's Premier Point Guards (Basketball Biography Books)
by Clayton Geoffreys

In his book Russell Westbrook, author Clayton Jeffries tells the inspiring story of an extraordinary point guard.
As an adult, Russell grew up in Compton, Calif. His father, who loved Magic Johnson, introduced Russell to basketball at age 7 and put him on the team. He has been playing ever since, and along the way met his friend Kelsey Barz. They were best friends, played together every day, and were the best on their high school team. But suddenly, Bars and Westbrook were picking on each other and Bars collapsed on the field, so he went to the hospital and found Bars dead from an enlarged heart. Russell was distraught and wore a bracelet that said KB3 in his honor.
At the time, Russell was only 5'5" tall, but the following year he grew to 6'2" and decided to go to college at UCLA. At the time, however, Russell was averaging only four points per game and was not even a starter, putting his NBA career in jeopardy. But when the starting point guard got hurt, Russell was brought in and he did a great job! When the starting point guard returned, the coach put Russell in the starting lineup.
At the time of the NBA Draft, Russell was projected to be taken around the 30th pick, but the Seattle Supersonics drafted him with the 4th pick. He never played in Seattle, as the team moved to Oklahoma and was renamed the Thunder. From here, Russell and star Kevin Durant would team up with the Thunder. (until Kevin moved to Golden State).
Westbrook was one of the best players at his position and won the Player of the Season award.

Great book; however, a little disappointed more of his rearing and personal upbringing wasn't more intertwined. Big fan of Russell Westbrook and enjoy watching his aggressive high energy participation in his game. Enjoyed!

In the book Russell Westbrook the author Clayton Geoffreys tells the inspiring story of an amazing point guard.
As a kid Russell grew up in Compton California. His father loved Magic Johnson and introduced Russell to basketball at the age of 7, so his father him on a team. He played from then on, but on the way he met his friend Khelcey Barrs. They were best friends and they played every day together and were the best on their high school team. But suddenly when Barrs and Westbrook were playing a pickup game and Bars dropped down on the court, he went to the hospital and Barrs died of an enlarged heart. Russell was devastated and he wears a wristband with KB3 on it in honor of him.
At this time russell was only 5’8, but next year he had a growth spurt to 6’3. He decided to go to UCLA college. But at this time Russell was doubted of going to the NBA, he only averaged 4 points a game and he didn't even make the starting lineup. But when the starting point guard got injured they put Russell in and he did fantastic! When the starting point guard came back the coach put Russell in the starting lineup instead.
When the nba draft came up Russell was predicted to get around 30ith pick, but the Seattle Supersonics took him with the 4th pick in the draft. He never played for Seattle because the team moved to Oklahoma and renamed themselves the thunder. From here Russell and the star Kevin Durant have been the duo for the thunder. (until Kevin moved to Golden State)
Westbrook has been one of the best players for his position and this season he has won the Most Valuable Player award.

This book made me feel very good because it makes me feel like anyone can do anything they want. This book matters because some people are big fans of Russell and this book tells them his story. I think I liked the way the author told the book except he didn't tell about Kevin leaving the thunder. I thought is was a little unnecessary to talk so much about the NBA season if you read this book. I can connect to Westbrook because I was introduced to basketball by my dad at a young age.

The theme in this book is motivation because Russell’s friend Bars kept him motivated. I likeked this book because it is a fast reader it is cheap but still has a great story.

The book was fairly well done, it just didn't have much new information that I hadn't heard before about Russell's upbringing etc.

Maybe I am just too much of a Westbrook fanboy to find anything new! There wasn't much in here that I haven't read in Sports Illustrated, GQ, and ESPN articles.
