How far would you go to secure the wedding of your dreams? Would you go to the extreme of hiring a homeless old woman from the local city streets to pretend to be the granny you never had, for the whole Christmas period? What if your only chance to pay for your nuptials meant you had to play host to a proper family Christmas. That meant you had to spin a web of secrets and lies without becoming tangled up and feeling trapped. Whilst having the best intentions at heart for everyone to simply have a wonderful Christmas time.
Esme is getting extra visitors to stay over this Christmas whether she likes it or not so her cup is full, pity it is not with mulled wine to help her through it. This of course will lead to a farcical and fabulously fun Yuletide yarn as it turns into a chaotic Christmas. The comedic situations in this fast-paced Christmas romp were to become the most stressful thing Esme could have imagined for a festive fiasco. Could Esme lose her own home, her fiancé and put the most precious person of all in peril as a result?
This is a British, feel good fiction novel to count your blessings with on this coming holiday season. Will poor old Esme get the happiest ever after in the end, if she does manage by some miracle to pull off the perfect Christmas? Would Esme still think it a blessing if her wishes were granted? There is only one-way to find out, read the book!
Maureen Reil writes comic commercial fiction and has had over 35 books published, so far, but she's always working on a new manuscript so she wishes to add to that tally with lots of new titles before she's done and dusted. She was born in the city of Liverpool and resides in semi-rural Lancashire UK, but longs to live by the sea. It was always a dream of hers to become a novelist and thanks to her readers, she has fulfilled that ambition, so she couldn't be more grateful if she tried. And Maureen hopes you enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoys writing them.
I didn't like it at all. I know it supposed to be a comedy, but for me it was too absurd and over the top, that it took all the fun from it. Main character was annoying and made stupid decisions, I guess, author thought it would be funny, but it wasn't. Actually, if it was made more realistic, I think i would have liked it more, but now it made me mad. IT is a short book, but I still managed to read it almost two months and in the end I just started to skip some parts. Don't recommend...if you want to read something funny, better try something from Sophie Kinsella.

What I say A good free read I did enjoy this book it made me smile and laugh so much I like the humour in story it a very light hearted read with a very clever twist Sometime the writing style or the words did not seem to run right but I still could read it( it may be just how I read it ) It one of them times in your life were everything that could go wrong does some will make you laugh out loud I found some so silly I did like all the characters they are very quirky and unique I love how and why Esme got the homeless people to help her you will have to read to see what she did
This book about trying to please people and try to get the perfect Christmas but at what cost ? You have to read to see The story was good it a ok free read not one of the best you can read in a few hours so good for a quick read

This book is out there and it's hard to believe anything like it would happen in the real world but i really enjoyed this book and even laughed in places. It's a light read that shouldn't be taken to seriously and the characters were very likeable.
In her attempt to provide a perfect christmas Esme goes out looking for a stand-in Grandma. As she lurches from one catastrophe to another the next few days hardly go according to plan. How will it turn out. An easy, pact read, good characterisation and overall enjoyable
Not your typical Christmas Book. You don't get that warm fuzzy feeling till the end, but all the rest of the book is pretty funny. If you like rats, pot plants, a cooked goose, a kid on the wrong path and a prostitute this book is for you
This was a freebie and I'm so glad it was because this isn't worth the bandwidth I used to download it.
The concept Could have worked, but not in this story. The characters are all unlikeable, well all besides one, the fiancé Harrison, and I feel very sorry for him. The main character in this story, Esme, just tells lies one after another after another after another, and we're supposed to feel sorry for the hole she's dug herself in!
It is not helped by the grating writing style. In this author's fictitious world, nobody uses contractions and dialogue is clunky and unnatural.
The ableism is unbelievable. First she has the old lady pretend to be blind and there's nobody in this story that knows blindness is a spectrum? So there's ignorant questions like "if she's blind, how can she read the magazine?", and that's on top of the unforgivable question of "if she's blind, how is she getting around the shop?". It could have been a nice opportunity to slip some education in there about how millions of people are blind and they manage around shops just fine, but nope. Just more lies instead.
There is one good line in this story, and that's all. "I've lost count now so I'll have to start again" says the dim mugger counting down to enacting violence.
I do not recommend this story.

For a free kindle book the story wasn't that bad. It does have quite a few grammatical mistakes but nothing awful. I rated it a 3 as its not the usual genre of literature I like.
Well this was a book and a half, there was never a quiet moment. When I think christmas I don't think prostitutes, being mugged, or hiring a homeless person to pretend to be family. Everything that could go wrong, did! and everyone knew everyone. Entertaining but I wouldn't want her life. Also there were a lot of spelling mistakes.
Diabolical. Awful, awful, awful. Make sure you use the 'Look Inside' function before you buy this book. It is full of bad grammar and terrible punctuation, so bad that it makes it virtually unreadable. You have to read almost every sentence two or three times before you can make any sense of them. DO NOT believe the five star reviews, these must have been obtained through dubious means.
