This authorized biography of the Scottish folk hero behind U.S. Top Ten hit "Year of The Cat," is a vivid insider’s account of the pivotal ’60s London coffee house scene that kickstarted the careers of a host of folkies including Paul Simon—with whom Al shared a flat in 1965—as well as the wry memoir of a ’60s folk star’s tribulations as he becomes a chart-topping star in the U.S. in the ’70s. Highly limited hardcover edition!
This book needed aggressive editing and a more balanced approach. The author clearly conducted many interviews about the first half of Al Stewart's career, but then seemingly included every word of those interviews and every note of research, important or not, in this book. The result is a book filled with numbing minutia, hiding the insight. It then skims huge, important sections of the performer's later career. The result is an very unsatisfying bio.
