There was such a big betrayal in this volume that I wasn't expecting and it completely changed the tone of the book! What a twist. This was an excellent end to the Illuminati story arc and I'm really keen to see where the plot goes next.

Me @ Izumo

But, seriously, this volume is absolutely fantastic. It brought tears to my eyes and I'm not someone who cries easily (or in general). Though I'm pretty sure I got emotional the first time I read it too. Leave it to Blue Exorcist to make me cry like I baby, I guess.

A lot of gruesome action in this volume but we are having fun, right guys?

The focus continues to be on Izumo (and, by extension, her mother). It is becomes both a chance for her to face her own weaknesses and try to outgrow them, and a study of slightly different parent-child dynamic.

Last but not least, the external cover not featuring Shima but adding him right at the back on the internal? *chef's kiss*

Besides being purely enjoyable, there is so many good lessons and extrapolations i can make from it as well. The strength of the friendships make my heart feel so full and reading it I am continually reminded of Jesus. A lot of the things in it are sinful and there is no knowledge of the true God, but some knowledge of His scriptures. Even so, Rin fighting to escape who he is, the son of Satan, and choosing good over evil. And on the particular volume a character realizing that they aren't who they were anymore (in a good way). I am continually in prayer during these books, both with pain for the sinful spiritualism and with gratitude and a swelling hopeful heart that God loves like Rin's father. Rin's constant refrain of "why did he save me?" the reader knows implicitly. Father fujimoto died to save you despite who and what you are because he loved. And in the same way, Christ died for us despite who and what we are, because He loves us. Rin is trying to live a life worthy of the father who died to save his life. I hope I will have that passion and dedication to live a life worthy of Jesus. In His power, not mine. I don't have anymore. God bless you in Jesus' name.

This volume is not enough, I already ordered volume15

The arc is killing me in pieces, the pig-face scientist is freaky as hell, she was like "you experiment on pigs why humans any different" I mean. That line explains how sick she is.

And the fact that the leader of the illuminati is somehow the only one who can kill Rin? What does that mean?

I feel like Satan has more than one spring off.

But the while Izumi's mother thing just put me to tears (not actual tears but I was sad)

I am glad the action took a more positive turn as in the characters were not just getting their butts kicked and trapped, but they came together as a group to fight.

I've really been enjoying the two covers on the manga lately. We see the outside cover, and then when you flip to the next cover inside the book, it's altered slightly. With this one, we get Shima added in and it just adds to the tension tbh.

But OH MY GOD KAMIKI. MY BB. ;_; She's been my fave for a while and to see her go through it, and to see her shine. BIIIIIIIITCH. I STAN. There were so many heartrendingly beautiful moments here and Izumo achieves full on magical girl status, istg. Seeing that she didn't lose Mike and Uke was fantastic, especially since in the last volume she really did think them gone forever ("They were like siblings to me"). I. AM. HERE. FOR. IT.

I loved the kids all coming together and OMG. SHIEMI FINALLY SAVING HERSELF. THIS is what I'm here for. Yes, Bon provided an assist but she got herself out and I'm so stoked for her!!!!! That amount of energy required for Nee to do all that he did,,, you know there's gonna be consequences. But she still powered through!!

The boys took more of a back seat to this, and I'm honestly not mad about it. They did well, they have emotions, they're ready and willing to fuck shit up to get their friends (yes, including Shima goddammit!).

I still do not give A FUCK about Izumo's mother. She can kick rocks. I'm sorry, but you can't just abandon your daughters for your fuck ass loser baby daddy, put everyone in danger by letting the fox possess you because you're distraught your mans doesn't want to acknowledge his illegitimate children but still wants to fuck you and then come in with the last minute assist. NO. FUCK AWF.

Also, noticing this theme of less than stellar parenting only to come in for the last minute save "proving" their loved their kid the whole time. It sort of worked with Bon and his father but you still were left wondering why he decided to take it all on himself and left Bon and his wife to suffer without him. This is even worse because it's purely Tamamo's selfish (and childish) wants that caused this. Ma'am, you gave your oldest daughter the biggest case of mommy issues ever but oh, you called the fox demon back to your bodily vessel and now it will die with you, so that's supposed to make it okay? NO.

I was really hoping that Izumo would have been able to persevere through her own will (and the power of friendship), and overcome things. And that did sort of happen at the end but I just wanted a little more. Also, there was a note that Izumo's compatibility suddenly dropped and it wasn't entirely clear why that was. Was Izumo somehow "found wanting"? Or was there perhaps a little smudging of the details by a certain turncoat?? Or was this just a plot hole, lol?

Anyway,

The END though. It was so sweet and emotional and I loved that Izumo stepped up and asked the kids for help. And that they, in turn, realized what such an act meant for her. THE VULNERABILITY, man. 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾

3.5

This volume is just filled with the anime and manga trope of friendship is magic and strength, we're with you, we're family, and we will always be there for you and help you. And that's great and all, but personally for me, it always makes me go urgh. Like don't get me wrong, I did get some small level of feels, it's just that manga like this are always so loud about 'MY FRIENDS'. It's just like we do you ahve to be stating it every five seconds. I mean this is a gross exaggeration, but Blue Exorcist doesn't do it in as such an annoying way, but still enough to make me do my urgh. Lol.

Anyways, with that said. I was glad to see that Rin did fight against the Chimera Zombies. We didn't get any of his thoughts on it, but for sure he probably felt something at having to cut down these things that were once innocent people who fell prey to the Illuminati's sick experiments.

And that's another thing. I feel like the volume tried to make us feel sick and angry at how Goedin, I think that was his name, could so such inhumane things. Call these people hypocrites and worthless because well humanity can do some of the worst things, but it felt a little meh to me. I've seen way too many horrors in fiction and real life to really bat an eye to these experiments. When it comes to Goedin's nindset I can understand where he is coming from that again, humanity has done such horrible things and yes there are humans who are hypocrites, but like wtf?!! There are still good and decent people and he's the type of person who's so annoying - willing to let humanity die because of a couple scumbags. Like no f that. We need to fight and preserve good not just give up on the entire human race.

But anyways. With all that said, this volume ends with Izumo summoning her familiars who apparently did not die after her mother ushers back the nine spirit back into her, and dies protecting Izumo. All the while Izumo has finally accepted that she has always loved her friends and has finally accepted to trust and confide in them.

So, other than that. There's not much else to say. I definitley felt the volume was full of tropes, but they weren't necessarily unenjoyable or didn't bring the quality down too much. All in all, not a bad volume, but definitley not the best.

While attempting to rescue Izumo from the clutches of the Illumunati madman, Professor Gedoiin, the exwires find themselves not only separated from one another but facing zombies! One by one they defeat their foes and assemble as a group once more, only to face Gedoiin. Gedoiin reasons that it’s only right for humans to experiment on humans, as they’ve experimented on animals for a long time. Just then her captors bring out Izumo. Ren goes into action and finds himself facing off with Shima! Rejecting the help of the exwires, Izumo agrees to take the Nine Tails inside herself. Can they stop the Nine tails without hurting its vessel, Izumo?

This volume of Blue Exorcist is not as Ren-centric as others. It showcases the exwires more as a team. We get a glimpse of Suguro and what he was like before he became his current buff and strong self. And Izumo sees another side of her otherwise weak and selfish mother. Professor Gedoiin is one of the creepiest villains we’ve encountered so far, and he doesn’t get any better in this volume. I’m still not entirely sure that Shima is the traitor he seems to be, either.

To be honest, I’m not sure what purpose would be served by implanting the Nine Tails in Izumo, but I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes now. Another good volume, can’t wait for more!

rating subject to change still trying to make up mind.

that was one strange volume. it picks up around the time of the last chapter of volume 13 and shows what the other members of the izumo rescue party did to win their fights. also the traitor within the academy seemed to have a change of heart and switched sides again from the antagonists to the protagonists group stoll slightly lost as to what happened there. kind of happy about this though since the traitor was an interesting character and added something to main character group. my only real issue with this volume is the arc villain is jsut creepy and is no longer that interesting. this opinion change is primarily because of his actions and how he acted at some points.

overall another good volume in the series which gave some interesting scenes to this rather fun arc. curious as to how it will wrap up as well as what is coming next

Why was this volume so emotional? I wasn't expecting it to be this heart-wrenching. Its hard for anything I read or watch to make me cry, but this nearly did.

Izumo continues to be my favorite out of the girls. Shiemi is okay and all, but Izumo is better developed. I mean, her mom dies protecting her and then she finally decides to ask for help for once and she asks Shiemi to take care of her mother. That moment was heartbreaking and a huge step up for her character. And it was especially emotional when Rin said that Izumo's mother died protecting her and he knows exactly how that feels since Fujimoto died protecting him (and Fujimoto raised him and Yukio and was like a father to them). Those moments in particular are what made this volume 5 star worthy for me. I could deal without that crazy lab doctor that I can't care enough to remember his name, but it's Izumo's character development and Rin's understanding of what she's going through that I just can't overlook.

I so badly wanna like this series more than I do but it’s just consistently….eh! with some really cool moments and a core plot that keeps me interested ‘cuz I simply wanna see how it resolves itself. This arc though man….too much and also way too little at the same time. I wanna say the big bad is campy like Mephisto, but he’s not. Considering the gravity of the torture and abuse in this arc, I would have hoped for a more compelling villain. Because of that, I’m left feeling annoyed and upset. This series could be so much more interesting if things were spiced up just a bit. I’m gonna continue to read, because I’ve been wanting to collect this series forever and am now committed to doing so, but gosh this volume was a chore to get through, with some nice wholesome shonen friendship moments peppered here and there to keep me tied over until this stupid kamiki torture arc ends.

Standardowo całość wygląda bajecznie, a niektóre sekwencje zapierają dech w piersiach, popychając akcję do przodu w obłędnym tempie. Złoto.

This book is another part of a no ending drama and conspiracy's Without the knowledge of yukio and rin and their classmates. So many things happening so many betrayal that they themselves don't know what to do. I like this book shows a lot of character development, some new friendship building too. Slowly the real reason about what is going on will be shown. Manga's like this are amazing. I use this manga to replace a manga that disappointed me but this one doesn't. Clear main topic and storyline so readers will be able to understand where this story might lead. Just hope the author doesn't get force to change things.

All the exclamation points and bold/italic type and capital letters are starting to get to me. Everyone's yelling/passionate all the time and it takes away from the meaning. Can't always tell who is saying what either as speech bubbles are given very vague attribution. While this volume was full of action, it really only advanced the plot by maybe 20 minutes in time. Despite said action, because of all the dialogue and internal character monologue, it felt very slow. It read fast thankfully, but I think mostly because all the fighting art is hard for me to distinguish what's actually happening so I don't spend that long actually looking at it.

This volume is so focused on Izumo Kamiki and it's fantastic. Not a lot of Rin or Yukio, but the way Izumo develops is fantastic. She has to question her relationships with the rest of the cast as well as what her personal motivations are. It's an emotional breakdown and has some really flashy artwork with the whole dancing fox motif she has going on. I like how cartoonishly evil Gedoin is as a villain who hates humanity and wants to become a demon so he resorts to inhuman experiments and body horror mess.

Ends the multi-volume arc focused on Izumo, her background, her relationship to the team, her personal character arc, and her/the team's battle with Dr. Gedoin. There's not a ton of big-picture stuff here, but the character work with Izumo, and in so far as it relates to her, with the team is well-done. And hey, Kato always handles the action sequences well. So, you know, there's awesome fights too.

This is a really good series. This arc is pretty dark, not going to lie. Because I’ve seen the anime, I’m actually ahead of where I am in the manga now. And if everything goes the way it did in the anime, we’re heading in a more serious and dark direction for the foreseeable future. I feel like the manga might have had more detail than the anime did, which was cool. I’ve already requested the next volume.

THE GOOD

Izumo; She not only came to terms that she does indeed love her friends, despite how callous and cold she can be, but she also had a few moments of pure badassery at the end that really improved her character for me.

Shiemi: This girl is getting tougher and tougher each book, and I love it!

THE BAD

Gedoin: Oh am I not glad to see this annoying guy go.
