Tame a Wild Human

Rate this book
Drugged, bound, and left as bait on the cusp of the lunar cycle, Wyatt Redding is faced with a terrifying set of no-win scenarios. Best he survives the coming days as a werewolf pack’s plaything and returns to the city as a second-class citizen with the mark — and protection — of the pack. Worst the wolves sate their lusts with Wyatt’s body, then send him home without their protection, condemning him to live out the rest of his short life as a slave to the worst of humanity’s scorn and abuse.

Wyatt’s only chance is to swallow every ounce of pride, bury his fear, and meekly comply with every wicked desire and carnal demand the wolf pack makes of him. He expects three days of sex and humiliation. What he doesn’t expect is to start enjoying it. Or to grow attached to his captor and pack Alpha, Cole.

As the lunar cycle ends, Wyatt begins to realize that the only thing to fear more than being sent home without the pack’s protection is being sent home at all.

Trigger warning: explicit non-con/dub-con; gang rape; torture/murder; humiliation; violence.

The entire book consists of Wyatt, a 28-year-old human, being gang raped by a pack of wolf shifters. The pack alpha, Cole, eventually makes Wyatt his and keeps him as a fuck toy.

THE END.

There is no world building. We are told that once a month when the moon is full, the wolves come out to rape and pillage, so people hide and fortify their doors against attack.

These are not nice wolves, you hear?

There is no relationship development. Cole gives Wyatt some of his blood, so Wyatt becomes a lust-filled bitch. Cole treats Wyatt like an inconsequential play thing and expects full submission.

Once, Cole fucks and knots (is that even a transitive verb?) Wyatt while Cole is in wolf form, and that time Wyatt wants it.

Cause he's a lust-filled bitch.

Obviously.

There is no romance.
[Restating this in case the trigger warning wasn't a tip-off.]

There is no character development. Wyatt is straight. But he learns to take it up the ass like a champ.

It's that or be eaten.

No contest.

If you want a porn fest with rape as a kinky, dirty fantasy, by all means, indulge in this wolfy sexcapade.

I embrace kink and smut, but I prefer my espresso with a splash of cream.
[Insert cum joke here.]

Smex is fantastic, but plot is even better.

Two stars because the writing didn't make me cry.

Plus. Knotting (just the once, though).

Woah, this book was something else! If you like bare bones non-con, violence, LOTS of sex and no romance to speak of, this book is for you! Unfortunately, I like some world-building and some relationship-building, even with my taboo reads.

I went into this book knowing full well that it was going to be a non-stop orgy of sorts with lots of dub-con/non-con. I'm okay with that. Though non-con isn't usually my thing, I can get down with it in some cases. In fact, "The Last Pure Human" (google it, it isn't on Goodreads anymore) is one of my all time favorite reads and it is dub-con city. I've also read Kari Gregg before and liked her stuff. However, this book wasn't at all to my taste.

First of all, I was shocked by the violence. Not the fact that there was violence (there is often some sort of violence in non-con) but the fact that I think it was supposed to be erotic. There was one scene where the MC was getting banged while another person was brutally tortured almost to death simultaneously, and I think that was supposed to be part of the allure of the scene. I wasn't allured.

I also was surprised as hell by the lack of world building. We get some sketchy story about how wolves rule during the full moon and something about obtaining favors (token of affection, of sorts) from them for a few people, but a LOT is left out. I was actually confused by some of it. Some of the wolves live among the humans but some don't... well, where do the rest of them live? Is it like a territory area or a city-limits type thing? I was confused by the pack structure, the affects of the full moon, the reason wolves saw humans as brutal and inferior but they themselves were brutal and awful... the complaints go on and on. There were a lot of contradictions and things that could have used 100+ pages to explain further.

Also, the main character isn't consistent. One minute he is straight and just trying to survive. He is driven and a successful lawyer. The next, he is claiming that he never felt like he fit in and is submissive and gay?? Yes, there is some magic wolf-blood that is supposed to make him crave cock, but I wasn't on board with the total personality change. It felt odd and took me out of the story.

There is also no romance is this book. NONE! While the MC ends up sort of mating to the alpha, it is a weird arrangement with no buildup and little affection. There is little to no tenderness at all. It was pure sex, sex, sex and I didn't consider this to be a romance in the slightest.

To top it off, I found some of the sex scenes to be repetitive and actually a little boring after some time. That is bad considering the book is mostly sex.

There were also some editing issues that I hope are fixed in the final copy (prostrate vs prostate is a pet peeve of mine).

All in all, I was not a fan of this one. And that is an understatement. While it had it's moments of hotness (knotting!!), it just wasn't my taste.

FOUR HEARTS--
"You need a dick in this ass, human. A lot of dicks. Fortunate for you that you'll be fucked in abundance. Now shut up."

This starts the tone of Kari Gregg's latest, "Tame a Wild Human" but it does not define this paranormal erotica treat. Set in an urban fantasy setting, this story reminded me a little of the movie, "The Purge". In this world, instead of purging out the weak, wolves and humans live together but every full moon, wolves are allowed to unleash their beast and hunt humans for fucking and more.

No one dies in this book, but the way this society is set up, humans are low on the totem pole of superior beings. They're weak, greedy and untrustworthy. Wolves sift through the humans that aren't hiding behind fortified buildings, fuck them. Whether they want it or not. Here's my trigger warning: non-con gang banging, some violence (it's not just a huge fuckfest) and some gore. Don't get me wrong, the triggers do play a major part of this story but that is not the only player. It created a werewolf society that actually hunts for mates but they don't ask or woo or go through the hearts and flowers preamble. (I don't mind the preamble but sometimes I want to get to the point -this story does this) They take what they want. It might be vicious to some and if you rather werewolves that act more like humans than the true predator that they are supposed to be, I wouldn't suggest this.

You add a shifter to story, I'm checking it out. Kari Gregg writes a shifter anything...I'm on it.

And she didn't disappoint me. She writes great animal shifters - they usually don't play by the rules, they do some filthy, squeamish things and revel in their nature. Was this dark? I guess? My scale is pretty warped so it wasn't scary or extremely dark to me, as more hot and cool. Because the beast in this story is the human.

Wyatt is a human, sold out by his brother, Andrew, to settle his brother's gambling debts on the first night of the full moon. In this society, humans who are used by the werewolves for rutting and survive, have two options. Either come back with a wolf token (ear piercing) or nothing at all. If you have a token, you have protection of wolves against the other humans. If you don't come back with a token, you can be used however the humans want to use you. Any wages you earn upon return, goes to the next of kin which would be Andrew. Andrew got to steal his brother's life because he's greedy and immoral.

Wyatt's brother drugs, binds him and leaves him in the woods. An alpha and his pack finds the straight Wyatt and shows him quite a gang banging time for the first day. As the full moon progressed, I learned about the werewolf culture. Humans are there to fuck, protect, mate. Humans can be too selfish to understand their worth to a werewolf. Sluts are there to slake the pack's needs. That is how Wyatt starts out. He's terrified but he's also strong because he steels himself to accept whatever the pack dishes out to survive. He might seem resigned but there was strength in his actions. He wanted to survive even if he had to be used to get to his endgame -a token and running away from the wolves.

And used him they did.

And it was obscene. And lewd. Non-con was delicious...hot. A gang rapes Wyatt.

But he was not defeated.

In fact, he comes to think like a wolf. Yes, he's still afraid but he understands them. I understood him. He became to need so prettily. Especially once the alpha really introduces him to werewolf physiology

The things Wyatt did. Damn. And when he began to crave those things, that's when the magic happened.

Wyatt was raped, over and over. They broke him down. He was a warm hole, a whore but he became an alpha's bitch, a mate. It might've been forced but I thought he was worthy. It might not be textbook romance but to me, mating surpasses that. Mates are together for life, there is no other. And I really, really liked this one. I liked how Wyatt was tamed.

And if this sounds like this is up your alley, enjoy!

Well written, fuckhot, giving you just enough to get a slice of Wyatt and his Master's life.

I've been Gregged and I liked. Wish there was more but I am satisfied enough with how it ended. I'm resigned to Kari Gregg endings. *shrugs*

Recommended for readers who don't mind non-con, forced mating and gang bangs. "Tame a Wild Human" will be released 1/19!!!!!!!

Cross-posted at Outlaw Reviews and at Shelf Inflicted

After reading a few reviews that piqued my curiosity, I ultimately decided this short story about wolf packs and their insatiable lust just wasn’t my thing. But now, thanks to the Lendle gods, I now have a copy in my hot little hands!

Which I’ve read in one sitting and enjoyed way more than I expected to. I feel dirty enough as it is. Don’t judge me.

Wyatt Redding is an up-and-coming lawyer who drives a Mustang, owns fancy Italian shoes, and is dating Sandra. He also has a brother who’s a scumbag.

Andrew kidnapped, drugged and blindfolded Wyatt, leaving him at the mercy of a ravenous wolf pack during a full moon. In Wyatt’s world, people stay indoors and secure their homes to avoid becoming human sex toys. Poor Wyatt doesn’t stand a chance. In order to survive, he must submit to the depraved wolves for three whole days.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the world building is scanty. That didn’t bother me so much, as I didn’t choose to read this story for rich atmosphere or plot, just the rough and dirty sex and D/s elements.

There is a relationship, unconventional that it is, but there is no romance. This is erotica, with non/dubious-consensual sexual situations and explicit violence which involves torture of a minor character.

Heed all the warnings, folks!

While there is a smattering of beauty here, including the successful taming of Wyatt and mating with his alpha, Cole, this will likely trip all your triggers.

“While hothouse blooms and cultivated flowers splashed bits of color on the city landscape of steel and concrete, the unspoiled forest was a banquet of hues in riotous greenery. The gorgeous plumage of flitting birds mesmerized him, as did clusters of wild grapes twined among vines draping trees, and lush blossoms in reds, purples, and vivid blues. Every breath he sucked in was clean and pure, scented with pine instead of a car exhaust.”

There was a surprising little twist and the satisfaction of knowing Wyatt’s brother will likely pay for his actions.

I’m happy.

I received this book as an ARC through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

I suppose if I had been able to take this seriously I would have found this book one of the most offensive things I've ever read.
description
Make no mistake about it, this is non con. Wyatt may be resigned to his circumstances, might even have it worse back in the human lands, but he in no way consents, or is even able to consent. This doesn't change. There is some silly non-sense with Alpha blood, mates, evil humans, and Wyatt's own good, but, in the end, Wyatt never really, with a clear head, consents.

description

Which is terrible, it really is, but I think why I was able to read it without losing my mind was just how over the top ridiculous is was.
description
I just couldn't take anything, or anyone seriously. Cole, the alpha. I know he was supposed to be big, and bad ass, but really?
description
Part of me wondered if the author was trying to subvert the tropes of the genre by upholding them, but probably that is just me.

description

If you are looking for a deep meaningful book, one without gang rape, rape, and other sorts of potentially triggering incidents look elsewhere. If you are, like me, looking for something mindless, dirty, and easy to read this is the book for you. The sex is a bit silly, yes, but it was just the sort of raunchy read I was looking for. I didn't have to pay attention, didn't have to worry about plot, or characters, or anything else. I could just sit back, and get lost in smut. Mmmmm....unapologetic smut. Perfect for a day when I was stuck home in bed, miserable with a cold. On a different day, in a different mood, maybe not hacking up a lung, I probably would have rated this book lower, but today is not that day.

Tame a Wild Human is an unreserved hardcore wolf gangbang great for the spank bank. Downright primal, lustful and depraved. An unapologetic rape fantasy. Know that this is pure erotica, one that aims to get you off not the type to melt your heart with sweet romance. To be clear, there is not a trace of romance within its pages, just sexy dominance and submission cum with plentiful servings of humiliation and degradation. Come on, the poor guy was pumped full of cum inside out I am surprised he didn't drown. But of course I am glad he didn't else I couldn't enjoy more of his debasement in the hands of those insatiable wolves who'd relentlessly drills his abused hole and mouth every wakeful moment.

Wyatt Redding, a 28 years old nice straight guy with a budding career as a lawyer in a good law firm was betrayed by his only family member and found himself bundled up then abandoned in the forest during the fullmoon to be a werewolf pack’s sex toy, a cumhole for the pack to slack their heat. Then this newly converted cumhole grown attached to the man who introduced him to the magic of his virginal prostate. That’s more or less the gist of the story. Do we really need a whole slew of information to get us off? Especially when knowing it is a short story aiming for sexual gratification. In TAWH's case, I’d say bravo for not wasting time nor paper on the world-building and going straight to the juicy and meaty part. Of course such an approach could only work if the sex is good and the writing is as good. TAWH has no problem pulling this stunt off effortlessly. I must thank Ms. Gregg for the lovely alone-time I get while soaking up TAWH. Another plus point for such a book is the flexibility for impromptu re-reads whenever one gets horny and alone as we don't need to read books the size of a phone directory just to enjoy some great self-lovin' sex.

It is unfortunate but unavoidable for this book to encounter censure from part of its readership. The issue arises not entirely due to the hardcore explicit sexual content rather it is a classical case of 'the wrong book for the wrong reader'. Maybe it is due the book cover, TAWH was easily mistaken as one of those shifters romance which is NOT what it is at all! TAWH is out-and-out an erotica with heavy kink topped with non-consent, some dubious consent and explicit violence. In the hands of the right audience this book is a winner as it truly delivers what was promised without pulling any punches. Readers who are looking for some naughty fun with ample humiliation and degradation, master and pet dynamics with heavy handed dominance and submission would undoubtedly find TAWH to be a satisfying read. Those who hates romanticized rapes can rest assured that TAWH has none of it. The rapist remains as the rapist, the victim remains as the victim even-though there is the element of forced-seduction. Rather than romanticising the taboo relationship, the author uses a touch of mind-control with a bit of blood voodoo. I know, I know, it's not natural for a straight boy to suddenly be all willing to submit and be the fuck bitch of another man but hey he never did have a choice - even right down till the end. Those wolves never see humans as their equal, humans are just part of their possession. The wolves never cared or would ever care about the inferior humans. How is that a complex thing to understand?

For this book the most important element to measure is the heat level. I'd say the sex is scorching hot especially so in the beginning of the story when the gangbanging started. That slow fucking was E-RO-TIC like hell. I could almost feel it in my own ass. My body was tingling all over reading that intense fuck scene. Loved that bit of sensory deprivation with the blindfold. I do have to confess that once Wyatt submitted even not exactly by choice, my enjoyment of the sex waned as I liked it more when there's resistance, be it physically or psychologically. That of course is all personal preference.

Betrayed by a family member is not a surprise for Wyatt. It's the timing which threw him off. Wyatt is an up and coming lawyer in a good firm. His earning potential is high. He will be in that corner office soon. Unfortunately for him, he's now thrown into a situation which has no good scenarios. Either he's fucked to death or he's fucked to death - one is literally and the other is figuratively.

WARNING: For readers looking for a complicated plot or a complex world building, this is not going to happen. This is a short book of gang banging rape where the human is used as a sex toy for horny knotty thick cocked werewolves. In other words, spank bank material. For those who love the non-con, this is the book for you.

From a world building perspective, Ms. Gregg seems to have changed over the years to a more extreme. Let's explain it in Lord of the Ring style. It used to be, she was one of the River Folks, she'd give us a world where we know how things work. Now, she's like Golem with the ring - "my precious". She hoards the knowledge and explanation of this intriguing world she creates. A reader is left to guess what is going on or worse, expect that it will be explained in the next book. Gotcha! Ms. Gregg gleefully shouts because at this point, for readers who hope for another book in this world, they are deeply misguided. Because Ms. Gregg does NOT write follow up books no matter how prettily the reader begs or how cute the fan pouts. Ms. Gregg is a a COCK TEASE and she's proud of it.

Readers used to Ms. Gregg's teasing style will read this book with panting excitement, toy in hand. After the blazing hawt sex, she quickly ties up the loose strings, hands the reader a little tissue paper and rushes off. It's wham, bam, thank you ma'am and she's out of here. My inner domme (okay, maybe not so inner) screams in protest.

* Glares at Ms. Gregg, riding crop in hand.

Let's get to the good part. The sex is smoking hawt which is why this is a 4 star for me. I can be bribed with good rape scenes and biting punishment torture. (Oy vey, I did not just say that.) The fear from Wyatt as he is bound and helpless to the strong horny big dicked werewolves is intoxicating. I can hear his whimpers and moan. Ms. Gregg paints a vivid picture of Wyatt's virgin ass ripped and abused by thick cocks. The growling and snarling is so Primal and exciting. Yes, there is some odd mating going on with blood lust but who really cares? Let's get to the straight boy forced to suck cock and take it up the ass! Let's get to the spit-roast! That's what I want in my "alone-time" pleasures. Ms. Gregg delivers in this with even a little eye opening knotting. That was unexpected and totally awesome. Although it was just a bit too short of a scene for me.

To summarize, this book is recommended to my depraved m/m erotic friends who are looking for a werewolf sex slave non-con gang bang. Romance lovers, scurry away.

This is what I was expecting my reaction to be:
description

But instead, I was all:
description

This book is completely ridiculous, and that's what made it enjoyable.

Spoilers below.

Wyatt Redding is a twenty-eight year old lawyer at a prestigious law firm, and is on his way to making senior partner. His jealous and indebted brother isn't so happy with this, so he decides to kidnap Wyatt and leave him in werewolf territory on the eve of the full moon. During the full moon, werewolves go crazy with lust and violence, and any human being left outside will be in serious trouble.

Wyatt understands what his odds are, but he's determined to survive. So he becomes a meek captive, and takes what he's served. By that, I mean gang-rape. And a whole lot of it. The non-con starts right off the bat and is continual. Wyatt's ultimate goal is to win the pack's protection through being a good sex slave, particularly for the pack alpha, Cole.

There isn't a lot of world building, but there is some information given regarding humans who are raped by werewolves during the full moon. Given the circumstances, it becomes a case of choosing the lesser evil for Wyatt.

There isn't much in the way of romance either. I'd very loosely describe the end as 'happy for now'. That's a common complaint for many of Kari Gregg's books, but it's even more relevant in 'Tame a Wild Human'. But I get why that is. This is supposed to be smut. The romance isn't the primary aspect. In fact, I'd call it more so Stockholm syndrome than romance. Cole certainly isn't a knight in shining armour.

What makes this enjoyable is the sheer ridiculousness of it. It is so over-the-top that it becomes funny. There are a bunch of tropes (damsel in distress, magic healing penis, fall in love with the douchebag) that make the situation go from grim to stupidly humorous.

If you don't like non-con, then you should definitely heed the warnings. 'Tame a Wild Human' is non-con werewolf smut, with very little romance or plot. That's what it's supposed to be, and it accomplishes that goal. This is a mindless read full of sex. If you're looking for something like that, and don't mind non-con, then I'd recommend this.

3.5 stars

This is not a read for everyone. Just putting that out there up front. It is dark dystopian erotica. If you don’t like this genre, proceed with caution.

For those intrepid readers (DMC-ers!) this is one to definitely try. I’ve been up and down with this author’s work but the paranormal (PNR)/fantasy reads have usually been fun. Anyone who’s read Ms Gregg’s PNR knows what to expect here: great writing, titillating story, and some kind of (even a bit of) world-building to make it all hang. (I cite I, Omega, Mating Season, and An Unauthorized Field Guide to the Hunt).

About that world building… Point one-- from the start we get a bead on it: this world is definitely dark and gritty. Humans are up for grabs on the full moon. Wolf shifters who can get a hold of a human go sex crazy in the woods for three days and then toss them back onto the city streets. Unless a captured human can prove himself in oh-so-salacious ways (here, it’s all about the male homoerotic), he then becomes fodder for the human masses. Becomes their bitch. (This reminds me a little of Rachel Haimowitz’s Anchored for the grim feel of it-- another society that condones sexual slavery.)

Point two-- our protag, Wyatt, is kidnapped and given up to the wolves by his own brother. Oh snap!

So, once again, this author skirts around some intoxicating PWP and push-the-edge non-com with something to chew on. What makes this world so grim and nasty? While you can’t condone what the wolf rapers do, they at least have some sort of tribal ‘code’ while their human counterparts do not. And within their world, with their laws, they are ‘honorable’ to Wyatt. That’s what I’m left with. You may not like the world but it does raise some interesting questions: are the humans any better than the shifters?

Did I enjoy Tame a Wild Human? Yes-- when I’m in the mood, I like edgier reads that push my comfort zone. Would I read it again? Probably not too soon. Did Ms Gregg have the chops to move me, somehow, once again? Yup, for sure.

I would have given this 4 stars but for the ending. This feels very much like a partial story… and it seems that there is not more to come.

(My thanks to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this short story in exchange for an honest review.)

Seems a bit unfinished to me, but it's still Kari Gregg.
It's filthy, non-con, but they are werewolves, so you can't expect them to wear slippers and offer bubble baths.
So, yes. Grrrr.

Kari Gregg is one of a very small number of writers that I consider essentially a genre unto themselves. Just about everything she's written, no matter what the setting, explores a similar set of themes, and her work really doesn't feel like anyone else's. There is a quality to her stories that I'll call “phatasmogoric." I have no idea if that's accurate, but it's my attempt at capturing the way her stories feel like unmediated, free-wheeling journeys through the id, with a jolting lack of moral inhibitions and angst about how far she’ll allow her fantasies to go.

It seems to me part of the nature of these journeys that there is not much in the way of disciplined story-telling to give them structure. As a reader you are either fascinated by where these gonzo trips take you, or not. She's an auto-buy for me, and I'll happily read and reread anything she's written, because as I said, there is no one else out there who writes anything quite like this. For that reason, as far as attempting a review goes, it only makes sense to me to compare any given work of hers to her other stuff. And no question, certain of her books have satisfied a lot more.

And, at the risk of contradicting myself, I do thing the stories of hers that work best do so because they balance these gonzo elements with a plot and setting that are fleshed out enough to actually make sense and give the story a viable plotline. There does come a point at which the contradictory or incoherent elements begin to take over the experience. I felt that An Unauthorized Field Guide to the Hunt for example, despite being a huge mind trip, really suffered from having a plot that made no sense.

Tame a Wild Human bears a lot of obvious similarities to I, Omega, one of my favorite books ever, but as a story it doesn't work nearly as well. Whereas I, Omega revolved almost entirely around the hero’s relationship to the werewolf who claims him, this one depends a lot more on the overall society and its expectations. And I couldn’t help feeling like we are not given enough of the usual paranormal world-building elements to grasp the stakes here. What is the relationship between humans and wolves? How do the assumptions of this society differ from our own? What happens during the full moon, and why do humans go along with it? There are a lot of hints that this society is dystopian, and the humans essentially evil, but we never do get the three pages we needed that lay it all out. (It also raises the specter that the “evil humanity” is a sop to buy off the shifters’ rape, which is a pretty common technique in non-con and D/s fantasies, and one I’m more annoyed than morally offended by, just because it’s crude and really sidesteps the deeper psychological and erotic elements that drive these fantasies.)

Without a clear sense of the rules, so to speak, it becomes difficult to parse the hero, Wyatt’s, reactions. At some point he ceases to cohere as a personality and becomes little more than a bundle of sensations and impulses. That’s enough for a non-con PWP smut-fest, which fine, but Gregg is capable of a lot more. Collared, despite having its share of technical flaws, is one of the most haunting, memorable stories I’ve ever read. Ditto I, Omega. And again with Spoils of War.

So bottom line: this is unambiguously a Kari Gregg story, and as such full of the kind of crazy non-con shit that I love, but disappointingly, it follows the pattern of some of her recent books of being too incoherent to have the impact it might otherwise have.

The high rating is severely subjective because I have a massive kink for non-con submission training. I'm also not bothered by the lack of romance because I see a different kind of love being formed (although I am bothered when people categorize this under MM Romance).

We begin the story with some world-building. Werewolves rule the streets of mankind, taking humans by force during the lunar cycle. If, after three days of rape, the human doesn't win a token of protection from the pack, they are subjected to whatever sexual depravity fellow humans wish to inflict. It's like the worst kind of dystopia.

It's why Wyatt, after being betrayed by his douchnozzle of a brother, is so eager to do whatever it takes to win the favor of the werewolves who pick him up and gangbang him (which, I suppose, is a cultural thing for a species that is very close with each other but see humans as inferior).

With that said, there's a certain allure to this rape fantasy, and it lies in the motivations behind Cole, the pack's alpha. He's a reasonable guy with very simple rules--do well and he rewards you, do poorly and he punishes you. He never goes out of his way to cause more harm than necessary, and he listens when Wyatt pleads for his first time to not hurt, going through the motions of preparing him to take the gangbang with the least pain. Then Cole takes it a step further, putting in a rule that from then on Wyatt is his alone, a toy for his personal possession and supervision. In fact, Cole gets rather pissed by Wyatt's endurance of the constant fucking without a single complaint, aware of human frailty.

Wyatt may consider himself heterosexual, but he grows to accept, even crave, sex with Cole. There's something to said about how Cole's intention was never to break Wyatt's spirit but his sense of self. Wyatt finds his true calling in submitting to Cole, a feat that requires the struggle, the breakdown of values, and the rebuilding of a new self, one that loves Cole's domination over him. It's a journey that wouldn't be as profound if it started voluntarily. In return, Cole gives him far more than a token: his blood, the greatest gift in his regard. As Cole's mate, Wyatt gets a new chance in life.

I believe there is real love kindled between Wyatt and Cole. It may not be romantic love, but it's something very intimate and deep. Cause, you know, Cole could have chosen to not bestow the honor of mate onto Wyatt, with all the wolf-like abilities it comes with. He could have treated Wyatt as just another fucktoy to discard at the end of the lunar cycle. This is why the ending is so perfect--the training of Wyatt is over, he has proven himself worthy of Cole's devotion, and he feels complete.

If I were to imagine a sequel, it would go something like this: Nate, the pack's beta, finds himself a human woman worthy of mating. Wyatt and that woman fall in romantic love with each other. Wyatt must learn how to make this relationship work while maintaining his submissive love for Cole, while Cole orchestrates a bunch of scenarios that retain his status as the dominant and playing into my kink for polyamory. The ending involves Wyatt being allowed to "marry" the woman. Epilogue: There be human babies. And there be pups too, seeing as Cole bred with a female wolf. The pups and babies grow up best friends, maybe even fall in love. *explodes from all the fluff.*

Before I read this I've read my friends reviews. So I know what to expect. I put on my mind condom and whatthef***ever-shades on. Preparing myself to enjoy (hoping anyway) the ride.

Holy shit. This was BRUTAL. It keeps reminding me of one of those horror-thriller movie flicks. The Purge. But instead of human hunts human, this one takes werewolves as an MC to hunts human.

My god, just like they said these are not nice werewolves we're talking about. I keep wondering 'is there any humanity left in them?' Because I didn't see it. Most of their personality are like animals and primitive. It's like 'this is the original werewolves'. Omg, I think I prefer the fluffy ones.

But my perspective suddenly changed by 43%. There's something weird happening. And yes, it does make me curious. I just think maybe they're not that bad. And I can see that Wyatt has Stockholm-syndrome over Cole (the alpha). So Wyatt way of thinking may be biased after all.

Well, this is my first time reading gang bang rape story. I think I survived this.
I guess I would pick some fluffy book after this.

Warning: gang-bang, dub/con, non/con, violence, torture (explicit content).

My goodness..all the weak reviews just make me want to read this.
I have to prepare myself. NO ROMANCE for me.

Because everyone should know that when your rapists use lube it means they care.

I usually enjoy Kari Gregg's work. The blurb makes it sound like this should be something I might like...the blurb lied to me!! (the rat bastard)

I'd say this book was all sex, but it isn't. It is all rape. (In case you are unsure, sex and rape are two very different things that may appear to have some physical similarities but come from vastly different mental places.) And choosing to submit to rape instead of being killed doesn't actually mean you are consenting, werewolf mojo or not.

Obviously this book was not for me. The blurb seems to indicate that there might be some romance to redeem it all, but there isn't. Even if you squint...in the dark...while blindfolded.

Just yesterday I was griping about the stupid warnings put on e-books, m/m books in particular, but a warning that a book is all about satisfying a rape kink would actually be nice/useful (or a blurb that makes it much clearer that all I'm getting for my money is a constant stream of rape and nothing else).

I decided to read this as part of some bastardised version of Weird Shit Wednesday. I'm not part of any group officially doing it, but it seemed like a fun idea. So, I appropriated it. Granted, Tame a Wild Human isn't as out there as Taken By The Gay Unicorn Biker or My Billionaire Triceratops Craves Gay Ass, both of which I've seen pass my Goodreads feed on Wednesdays, but it's weird for me. I chose it because someone said it had knotting in it and I'd never read a shifter book that explored this aspect of canine physiology.

[The rest of this review will likely have spoilers in it, as venting my frustration at the book usually requires mentioning what annoyed me. Be warned.]

Now, I'll grant that I chose this book because I was pretty sure it would be outside my comfort zone. I like challenging my limits on occasion and I usually have pretty good results. This was not one of those times. I did not enjoy this book. I'd say it was a 1-star read, but I'll give in and allow it an extra half star for being structurally sound and adequately edited. But it would get a 1-star, at most, for my enjoyment factor.

If rape and serious non-con is your kink, this book is for you. It's not my kink and I did not enjoy spending at least half the book inside the mind of a man as he rationalises submitting to 3 days of constant gang rape in an attempt to save his own life. (Because the wolves have no problem f*cking a human to death, as we're shown.) Plus, all I could think was, 'This man's been raped by 6+ others multiple times for 3 days straight, with no bathing facilities or even an attempt to wipe him down. He must freakin' stink!'

Then, after over half the book had been dedicated to rape, rape, rape and the victim has given in to Stockholm syndrome and the apparent fact that regardless of terror, pain or self-preservation if you touch a man's prostate he'll get aroused, the victim was given something (I won't say what) that made him 'understand the wolves' and want to be with them and submit to them. So, instead of constant rape we have a man who's now begging for his abuse.

All of this was somehow wrapped up in the idea that human's are cruel and wolves are caring, because, you know, they lubed him before gang raping him. Honestly, that whole plot-point made no sense at all. "Yeah, my 5 or 6 mates and I are going to gang rape you while you're bound and blindfolded, for three days, all because we care so much for you. *cough* Bullshit!

Then the throw-in about the father...hey great, the willingness to submit to horrendous atrocities on one's person runs in families. How wonderful for you. *cough* Bullshit!

Plus, you never get the satisfaction of finding out what happens to the brother who betrayed Wyatt. I suppose because by that point you're supposed to have seen it as a good thing that he was bound, drugged and abandoned in the woods with a bunch of sodomite savages. Yeah, thanks bro, for real. *cough* Bullshit!

All of this might have been something I could have dealt with if the book had had any significant world building to situate it in. But it didn't. We're told humans make no effort to stop the wolves from kidnapping and gang raping people on the full moon and that any human who then returns without a token of protection is essentially an untouchable (or untouchable in any sense but to be further abused). But we're not told why or anything about how society works. What's more, being as there are obviously multiple wolf packs, who kidnap more than one human a month and almost no one gets a token, shouldn't a fairly large swath of the city's populous be untouchable? This isn't made out to be a rare occurrence.

The book is also very violent. Again, I'm not particularly bothered by gore. I'm not even always bothered when violence and sex converge. But none of the violent sex in this book, which is essentially all of it (including watching a human get killed while you're being f*ucked and only being able to save his life if you can climax in time) was erotic. Not once in the whole book of basically ceaseless sex did I feel a tingle. Nope, I might as well have been reading the Spam section Joy of Cooking, for as much as it turned me on. And that was sort of the whole point.

If I'm generous I could say I think I know where the author was trying to go with the story, though not wholly successful. But I'm not sure that would be true. I don't know what was supposed to have been the payoff for the reader, Wyatt's happy slavery maybe. I don't know. I'm all for the occasional taboo read, but I wish I hadn't read this one. It definitely wasn't for me.

So wish this would be extended

Honestly, it’s between a 2.5 to 2.9 for me. As all the other reviewer’s stated, there is a lot of non-con situations, humiliation, torture and at one point sex while possible a possible execution is taking place. The world building is slight and in it, both humans (most but possibly not all) and wolves are unkind. Oh, and to top it off, this isn’t romance, more of an acceptance, and even more than it than being IMO a life/death situation.

My biggest hang up with the book is none of this. It is the fact that the pack mentions tracing the car that dropped Wyatt their to find Andrew, Wyatt’s brother. It made it sound that what his brother did was not acceptable for some reason. I want to know why and what the repercussions would be. I would have been good with a brief mention, but....

All in all, I enjoyed the book. I really wish the author would extend this, because I believe we would start to see something between Wyatt and Cole.

This is going to be a love it, or hate it book for readers.

If you disliked "I, Omega", don't read this. Frankly, that novel had more depth, even if this one was probably better written.

Myself, I'd give it 4 stars, but I'm a bit pissed that there won't be a sequel. This would be perfect as a short series. Gah!

Will increase rating if I enjoy it as much on a second read.

3.5 star review by The Blogger Girls.

This was an interesting shifter story. It’s pretty rough, with Wyatt being kidnapped by his own brother and thrown to the wolves.

In this world, which unfortunately, we don’t learn much about, the wolves rule, and during their 3 day lunar phase, they pretty much sate themselves on whatever humans are sacrificed or found in their territory. If the humans gain favor in the form of protection from a particular wolf, they are claimed and safe from other wolves and the humans they return to. Again, we don’t learn too much about what is actually going on in the human side of things.

Wyatt is a successful lawyer, but I was really unclear as to how things played out on that end. Taking it from the point where Wyatt is dropped off and recovered by the wolf pack, things get heated pretty quick. He has basically decided to give in and submit in the hopes he will survive his time with the wolves. He is also hoping to gain favor in the form of a wolf token. His time with the wolves is pretty rough. He is basically raped and treated as a sex toy, until the alpha, Cole, takes a particular liking to him.

Things are pretty hairy (ha!) as the lunar phase passes. Cole gives Wyatt some blood, amping up Wyatt’s lust and senses, they mate while Cole is in wolf form (knotting and all), and Wyatt realizes he wants to win Cole’s favor.

This isn’t a fluffy romance, so I’d say it isn’t quite for the faint at heart. But if you like things a little on the darker side, there is a lot to like. The scenes with the wolves are all very well done. The story reads very quickly and even has a twist here and there to make things a little more interesting.

The biggest issue for me is that I wish it had been longer with more detail given to the world building and a little more drawn out at the end as well.

I didn't realize this was going to be a story about the repeated rape of a straight human male by a pack of werewolves during a full moon when I requested to read this one. I have read some of this author's work before, and liked it, but this was not really my style of read.

Wyatt has been kidnapped, drugged, bound and left for the wolves by his own brother. Despite being a successful lawyer, Wyatt knows his life is now, well, over. If he survives the wolves, returning to his old life is impossible. For some (unknowable) reason, those who have been wolf-raped and return to town become rape material for any and every male who then wants a piece. Hmmm... That doesn't make any sense. Rape victims have no recourse? They will be continually raped? By humans? Weird.

Okay, so Wyatt decides he'll submit to the inevitable--be the best rapee evah--and this earns him a lot of rape. In exchange for his compliance, Wyatt hopes he'll earn a "token" (ear tag) from the pack which will keep him safe from the rapacious humans when the full moon cycle ends and he returns to life in Rapeland. The alpha inexplicably dotes on him, and decides to keep Wyatt's tender bottom all to himself.

Wyatt learns to submit, and even to enjoy his new status as Alpha sex toy, unwillingly accepting some Alpha blood which turns him feral. I guess it all sorta works out between them. There's some kissing and tenderness, eventually.

So, there's a lot of rape, gang rape, and this society is all about wolves raping/mating dudes and human men raping male wolf-rape survivors. I had expected some romance/seduction. I didn't find any. I had hoped there would have been some justice for Wyatt against his scheming d-bag brother. Nope, not here. I, perhaps, had high expectations--but the book description made me believe I was getting a romance, and, again, nope.

I got a review copy of this book via NetGalley.

Okay, I went into this knowing it wasn't my cup of tea but decided to read it anyway since I like some of the author's works. This is definitely not a romance in any form. My one star rating isn't even from the gang banging/rape scenes which weren't sexy in anyway. It was like starting in the middle of a book and then it just ended. There's not going to be a sequel so were just left hanging with lots of questions. Very unsatisfying.

ARC provided by the publisher through Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words in exchange for an impartial review.

As the story opens, Wyatt Redding is thrown to the wolves—literally. In this world, humans avoid the wolves during the three days of every full moon. The wolves are superior to the humans in both strength and cunning, and humans who venture too close to the woods during the full moon have been known to disappear forever. It’s worse for those who don’t disappear—once it’s known they have been used by the wolves for sex, they’re shunned and abused by other humans—physically as well as verbally.

When Wyatt’s greedy brother, Andrew, leaves him bound and gagged at the edge of the woods, Wyatt decides that he’ll try to make the best of the three days by surviving and winning a mark that symbolizes protection by the pack. He wants to get back alive—especially because his brother is trying to get his hands on Wyatt’s money, money he earned by working hard and rising to the top of his field.

Knowing his choices are very limited, he decides he’ll do whatever he needs to do to live, even if that means submitting to the wolves sexually. But from the moment the first wolf comes upon him, he realizes that there really was no choice at all.

Wyatt is subjected to physical and sexual abuse throughout the story, and there’s both dubious and non-consent and outright rape. This is definitely not a story for those who may be triggered by violence.

I appreciate the author’s attempt to create a new world, and a different twist on wolf shifter stories, but I don’t think enough time was spent on creating the world and establishing a relationship between two MCs. Cole, the Alpha of the pack, eventually becomes the wolf that Wyatt is bound to, but although there is some primitive sense of attachment, it never approaches a romance. If anything, their “bond” with each other is due to the fact that Wyatt’s system absorbed some of the wolf’s blood, strengthening him and making his attraction to the wolf stronger.

The major problem for me was that I didn’t understand any of dynamics of this world until the very end of the story when Cole discusses their relationship to humans with one of the pack elders. I would have liked this information and more about their world earlier in the book. Since the book was not long, there wasn’t much time to establish the setting, but there was certainly enough time to devote to an extraordinary amount of sex—all of it violent. The author should have given more time to the world-building within the pages written, or else expanded the story to establish the framework of the wolf-human dynamic first.

Overall, the story was okay—but nothing out of the ordinary. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone other than those who like very dark stories with a lot of sex and those that really don’t fit the usual definition of a romance.

2 star review by Vicki

SPOILER ALERT! I talk more about the plot than I usually in this review…. If you don’t want to see it stop here!

This is a hard book for me to review…. I didn’t care for it, but I appreciate the writing. I’ve read several books by Kari Gregg before and liked them very much, including her werewolf books. But this one was not my cup of tea at all! I did read the blurb, but didn’t realize there would be as little plot as there was and how much rape it included.

Wyatt is a human, an attorney living in a human city. He is kidnapped, drugged, tied up, and dumped in the territory of a werewolf pack on the first night of the three day full moon fuck fest. He’s found by a pack of werewolves, raped repeatedly and mates with the alph to save his life. I didn’t get the sense that Wyatt liked or cared for Cole, and the same from Cole. He just wanted a willing fuck toy, and Wyatt wanted to not get hurt and not die. That’s pretty much it! It’s nasty and icky, and I really didn’t get it. The werewolves talk about how inhumane the humans are, yet they gang rape humans. Wyatt isn’t gay, this is not a romance, and it all takes place in the woods in a werewolf camp. There’s not enough world building to really get a sense of what’s happening, other than this being a fucked up world. There wasn’t much of a resolution, it just sort of ended. There wasn’t much history, and it’s a really short book, so I didn’t get a chance to like any of the characters. It appears to be a dark and awful world, someplace I DON’T want to know more about. I don’t understand the title actually, Wyatt wasn’t a wild human, and he didn’t get tamed. Just raped!

I’m sorry I didn’t like it, it wasn’t what I expected. I’m sure some people will like it, there is nothing wrong with books like this one, and the writing is good, it just isn’t something I care for personally. I can appreciate a dark story, and I can handle some non-con in books, off page rape, or even on page rape not fully described, and some rough sex, but it has to be part of an overall plot that I like. Or make sense to the story or characters somehow. There has to be a rescue, a connection, some emotions, some healing, and some feelings coming out of the bad shit, some reason for it. I just didn’t get that here. It was just rape, gang rape at that, and there just wasn’t enough good stuff to outweigh the bad stuff. I hate to give books low ratings because I didn’t like the subject matter, but I don’t know what to do with this one….. if there had been more to it maybe I could have gotten past the icky bits and worked up to liking it, but I didn’t.

3.5 out of 5 stars
I have to confess – this title totally grabbed my attention. The blurb piqued my interest. I was curious, so decided to give it a try. I was surprised, a little shocked, and definitely titillated.

The surprise – he got sold out by his own brother. Just how cold is that? Talk about your brotherly love! There wasn’t much world building in this, but from what there was, it appears “going to the wolves” is a common thing. It is expected that people will be “taken” for the three days of the full moon. Throughout the story, I was left wondering if there were any females in this world. There was only one brief mention about Wyatt having a girl friend at one time. Otherwise, it appears the wolves only “take” human males to have sex with. How do they reproduce? Guess it was an irrelevant issue in this story.

The shock – Wyatt seemed more afraid of the human reaction to his plight than actually having been taken by the wolves. In my humble opinion, the only violent “rape” in the story was done by another human. The wolves took their time and “prepared” Wyatt. Yes, it was basically non-consent, but other than the gang thing, they really showed more compassion and consideration than the human.

The titillation – okay. What can I say? I sometimes have a taste for the darker side of things in my reading. This was pure m/m erotica. No romance. Little story. Just a lot of dubious sex.

All that being said, the story did end with a decent happy for now ending. With a little more world building it may have even been a happy ever after. Hard to tell with what we had though. Also at the end we were left with a bombshell about Wyatt’s father that was just put out there and left hanging. Grr! Arg!

Overall, this was a well written book. I think I would have liked more story, but what was there was . . . different. If one looks beyond all the sex, I found a world where the wolves are more civilized and humane, in their own animalistic way, than the humans. Something to think about.

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Review:
This is a different world than the one we live in now. For three days every month, the werewolves run wild and normal humans stay locked in their houses where it's safe. Wyatt is a lawyer with a good normal life, but a jerk of a brother who's decided that Wyatt isn't giving him enough. So he drugs Wyatt and drops him gagged and bound into wolf territory where he will most definitely be used as the wolves plaything for the three days of the full moon. Once that happens, Wyatt's life is over. He will be used and abused sexually for three days and then thrown back to the human world where he'll be reviled and rejected...unless he can cooperate enough to earn a "token" which puts him under the protection of the wolves for the rest of his life.

It's not an easy book by any means, but it was really interesting especially the way that the author twisted the world. On the surface, Wyatt is "abused" by the wolves...BUT they do it in a soft caring way. Besides just the humiliation of the entire ordeal, they are actually really careful with him and not to hurt him...as long as he cooperates. This is the complete opposite of the human reaction to him. The story provides an interesting dialogue to human behavior.

It's most definitely a dark story, but it's not depressing...at all. Wyatt is smart and resourceful. He's a lawyer. He knows how to think on his feet even when he's bent over and terrified. The way that Kari Gregg wrote the story worked for me and I did enjoy it. It definitely followed a certain style in writing that she always uses. It's funny. I never remember her name, but I most definitely recognize her writing style once I start reading. (I'm a sucker for wolf shifter books and tend not to even pay attention to who the author is when the blurb sucks me in.)

Warning...this book is not going to be for everyone. Like most of Kari Gregg's wolf-shifter books, this features some sexual violence that isn't always easy to read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for the review copy of this book.

This is the first book by Kari Gregg that I've read. And, sadly, this book was not for me. At. All. It definitely wasn't what I expected from reading the blurb when I requested it but, thankfully, the publisher has added a content warning to Netgalley. I don't recall seeing it when I requested the book, but if it was there, I completely missed it. Nevertheless, be warned, if complete non-con is not your thing, this book won't be either.

The setting of the story is very dark. Wyatt is a lawyer in his fathers prestigious law firm. Wyatt's brother is evil, though, and quite literally throws him to the wolves. Wyatt's only hope for survival is to simply take what's dished out. He knows he in for more than a single rape, but he is forced to endure gang rapes and humiliation. Part of him is terrified he won't survive and part of him is terrified that he will. He knows that the three days of the full moon will be brutal, but he is determined to get through them, even if it means submitting to something he does not want.

That story line, if there was some tenderness anywhere; if the Alpha would have come to actually care for Wyatt, I think I could have enjoyed this story. But that isn't at all how it was and though this book was listed under "Romance", there was none at all. No tenderness or caring. Wyatt is a possession. A fuck toy and as far as I could tell, nothing more. So, yeah, this story is not for me.

The best thing I can say about this book is that it was fairly short. I cannot recommend this one to anyone.

I don't know, I don't have a category for erotica, but that's what it is, with a slap dash of mates at the end. It's less than 70 pages and 50 must be sex in some form. Pretty much all of it what I consider non-con. Sure he consents, but he knows if he doesn't they'll kill him, or someone will. So I'm pretty sure it's still rape even you agree to take it and maybe even have an orgasm. I was left with little tidbits of world building that never really gave me the whole story, and there was a torture scene, that he is forced to watch while having sex (nothing like jizzing while watching someone be tortured - to death? I don't know because soon as I realized what was happening I skipped ahead - not interested in that).

I'm not one to complain of too much sex, but this was just not for me. I only kept going after the torture scene because I wanted to see how the mates thing played out and that was weird, which has his supposedly dead father suddenly popping into the picture. WTF? Seems people either love it or hate it, so just depends what your cup of tea is. Heather gave a more comprehensive review that pretty much echoes my opinion.

Kind of reminds me of Ian's Choice (Wolves' Heat, #1)Odessa Lynne in some ways. Reluctant submission but not brutal taking, they actually do take time to 'warm him up'.

I glanced at a few reviews and there's a lot of negative.. I'd like to go back and look at the wolves heat series and see if there's the same kind of negative.. simply because it's basically the same thing. Except in that series if you DON'T you WILL be killed and/or mauled. Here, except for the last night of the moon, they seem to have the CHOICE of how they will behave.

Anyways.. I didn't find it to be that bad. Even his first encounter, he's actually given pleasure instead of just tearing it up but I can see where a lot of people would have issue. Frankly if you want to get down with it ALL non con is rape but some still read and rate high and love them.. this is just more brutal.. enough said.. I didn't find it horrible.. certainly a little uncomfortable...

in which I read half of the book with a straight face while playing with my cat, and for the rest half with a frown plastered on my face.

Isn't he cute? Yes, my cat. Not Wyatt.

Anyway, this book was...porn. Erotica. With rape, gangbang, humiliation, violence, and amusing wolf logic. Not to mention, my second werewolf book with the knot thingy, which I'm still trying to pretend I didn't read about. Thank God, even though I have a slight idea about what it is, I'm not brave enough or intrigued enough to search it on google.

So, if you feel like reading something I mentioned above, you might like this one. Or not.
