I love the cover and was keen on reading a prison romance. The title, though, led me to suspect that this story would be light on the violence and hardships associated with prison life. In that area, my expectations were met.

Ryan Burgess is an 18-year-old Princeton freshman who likes to party and dabbles in cocaine. Even his rich and influential father could not keep Ryan from getting a 25-year sentence for drug trafficking.

The fear of rape constantly looms in the back of Ryan’s mind, as all the men he encounters are much larger and stronger than he is. He meets a compassionate soul named Donnie who gives him tips on survival and advises him to hook up with Ray Harrison, a 48-year-old long-time inmate who will offer him protection.

“I buried my face in my hands and let out something between a scream and a groan. What the fuck was wrong with me? I’d trusted the first asshole I met here and now he was auctioning my ass off to the highest bidder.”

Though Ray is attracted to Ryan, his primary interest is in friendship. The rest is negotiable. Ray promises that he won’t make Ryan do anything he’s uncomfortable with – either personally or in the various jobs he gives him.

30% into the story, I was sure that nothing bad would happen to Ryan, so I focused my attention on the developing relationship between Ryan and Ray. Though Ryan didn’t want to be called “kid,” he was indeed Ray’s kid and Ray was his “daddy.” Their relationship was sweet and intimate, and the sex kinky and adventurous. While I loved Ryan’s growth in prison, I would have liked some tension, danger, and suffering. Despite that, the portrayal of life in a medium-security prison felt authentic, perhaps even more authentic than what we see in movies or on TV.

Fortunately, Ryan didn’t have to serve the entire sentence and was paroled after three years. The ending felt rushed and the happiness a little too easily earned, but overall this was a sweet and satisfying story.

Thanks to Lei from Bookie Nookie's Erotic Lending Group for lending this to me.

A very sweet prison romance between an 18 year old rich kid and a 48 year old inmate.

Ryan is a Princeton freshman, rich and cocky. He does cocaine regularly, just for fun. But then he gets caught and sent to prison for dealing.

When he first gets there he can't stop thinking about all the bad things that will happen to a rich, skinny white kid like him. When an inmate delivering him food tells him a guy as pretty as him needs a daddy, Ryan balks at that idea. But he also knows he needs some kind of protection.

When he gets a message from Ray Harrison that he's willing to offer him protection if Ryan will let him be his daddy, Ryan knows he has no choice..

But Ray is not what he expected. He doesn't rape him, or treat him bad. He just befriends him and lets people think they're having sex so that Ryan is seen as Ray's property.

Even though Ryan is not gay, he does start to feel very close to Ray. So close that he's thinking about letting Ray get closer. Ray has never made it a secret that he wants Ryan. But he wants Ryan's consent too, and not take something from him that's not freely given...

I really loved this. Ray was incredibly sweet and at first I didn't think I could like Ryan, being arrogant and a drug user, but he was unexpectedly likable. He had a big mouth, but he wasn't dumb and knew exactly when to back off.

The sex, when it finally happened, was dirty and everything I wanted from a prison romance.

There is some drug use in this, but no one is addicted and only on 'special occassions', so I was okay with it. Don't forget, this is prison, there is bound to be some drug use and trafficing.

I did have one big complaint and that was the end. We went from a prison romance to a HEA in 2 pages. I really wanted more out of this. Some things were summed up in one sentence and I was not happy with that.

Still, this is definitely worth a read if you're looking for a sweet prison romance with concensual sex and lots of I love yous.

10/21/23 - Still love!

10/8/22 - Still absolutely love and exactly the read I needed right now. Upgraded to five stars.

12/31/17 - Still stands up to the test of time. One of my favorite m/m Daddy/Prison romances.

----------

Re-read Sep 22, 2016. Yep, still absolutely love. Think I loved it more this time. 4.5

------------

Awww this was sweet. Really, really well done. Loved the pacing and how Ryan came to love his Daddy. The whole scenario was a bit fantastical; Ray was just too good and sefless, and I never really understood why he chose to help Ryan and commit to him so early on, but once you went with it, the two of them were beautiful together. Loved the happy ending.

There is a little rat in my brain doing a jig telling me the vibes were off in this book and yeah he’s got a point. I think I hated this not for one specific reason but because book gave the same energy as a wet cold piece of crumpled paper just kinda sitting in a pile of gloop that’s making me wrinkle my nose up a bit at the sight before walking away

Surprisingly fluffy for a prison book; I totally expected there to be some twist, like maybe Ryan was being psychologically manipulated into acquiescing, into voluntarily becoming Ray's boy without realizing he was being played (and possibly later passed around, just as he feared)...but yeah, nope. None of that happened.

Lots of specific, dreary, mundane details on what life is like behind bars - and the business of running a drug ring from lock-up - which made it feel very real.

Loved this! I must admit I was racing through the first 50% or so to get to the kinky prison sex but wow was it worth the wait. A nice and tidy and very satisfying ending as well, which you don't often get with a prison m/m.

3 stars!

UnPrison has been my first prison romance and I have to admit that I have been expecting a little more angst and difficulties - especially at the beginning. 18-year-old Princeton freshman Ryan is sent to prison and is terribly afraid of all the bad things that could happen to him. However, 48-year-old Ray Harrison is offering him protection and Ryan is accepting the offer without thinking twice. When finding out that Ray is not at all what he has been expecting, he slowly starts to fall for him and tada ... we have a sweet gay-for-you prison romance with a huge age gap. Not bad at all, an entertaining read - but all in all a little too sweet and unrealistic for my liking.

"I was his anchor on the outs the same way he'd been my rock while I was down."

I thought this was going to be kind of dark. Turned out to be fluffy cute. I liked it! Ray takes Ryan under his wing and protects him in prison. The only thing Ray asks for is true companionship... maybe down the line his ass.....only if Ryan wants to tho 🤭
We follow their daily life in prison...(Kinda boring, kinda juicy.)
I loved seeing Ryan's feelings toward Ray slowly change the more time they spent together 🥺 Their first time gave me the warm fuzzies.
I just wish we got a chapter or 2 of them interacting on the outside.

I really enjoyed this read. This was my first book by Yamilla Abraham, but it won't be my last. I really try to stay away from dark reads. Fiction or not, they tend to negatively impact my mood in a big way. I was a little worried about this book since it takes place in a prison. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't too dark and didn't have too much BDSM.

Ryan was sent to prison for a small time drug deal by a political candidate who used Ryan's case to set an example in order to boost his public image as a no nonsense leader. No amount of influence by Ryan's prestigious family could help reduce his prison sentence of a maximum of 25 years. Ryan, dimunitive and beautiful, was extremely fortunate to catch the eye of Ray. Ray, ironically enough, was the premiere drug dealer in the prison. Ryan became his "kid", which was the prison vernacular for sexual property. Ray had the reputation of a hardened criminal and it was common knowledge among the inmates that he was not to be crossed. Though Ryan was loathe to be anyone's "kid", it turned out that Ray was not what he seemed. Ryan was not only protected, but was in the fortuitous position to form a unique bond with a fascinating and charismatic man.

Recommended for fans of M/M romance who like the idea of two men who manage to find sexy alone time in the least romantic place imaginable.

LA RECENSIONE COMPLETA QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.it/2...

description

Ryan is a scrawny 18-year-old kid who never even heard of the term, “commissary” when he is sentenced to prison. Not knowing what to expect, Ryan is taking under the wing by a much older, more powerful inmate. What transpires between the two was not only entertaining but was actually believable!! This book felt incredibly realistic! I honestly felt like I was listening to the main character tell me his story directly. I don’t know if it’s because the narrator was amazing, the story was so real written or combination of both, but it truly felt like an autobiography! My only complaint is that Ryan opens up to homosexuality more quickly than I would expect. Although this transition does feel legitimate and realistic, I expected to hear at least some inner turmoil from Ryan once things became physical. And like all of my friends said in their reviews, the end of this book is way, way, way too rushed. Everything is told fabulously well at a perfect pace until the very end when 5 years are condensed into just a few pages. It truly felt like the author had a deadline and ran out of time. Otherwise, it’s a spectacular, incredibly well written book that I absolutely loved!!!!

Ummm....WOW!!
This is my very first m/m book and my first book by this author Yamila Abraham and what a book to start with! I had my reservations, I must admit I didn't think I would connect with the characters - but was I wrong :)
The setting was in a medium security prison which had detail enough for me to envision how life would be like to live there.
It was a very simple story and I loved that it wasn't packed with hardcore sex, well...it had its moments ;)
But this was a loving relationship between two men...whom at first, just wanted companionship and protection.
The only problem I had with this book was that it wasn't long enough. :(
Many thanks to Bookishcat for the Rec!!

What in the hell was this?? 😂

I love me some prison romance, but this one is like a Wattpad extravaganza, it's so literal and just - damn, surprising, I'll give it that.

This was something, alright. Realistic dialogues, but that's all there was. No suspense, no angst, no danger, no big love story, or even just a decent one, nothing.

This book needed extensive editing and polishing up the storyline a little bit. No, not a little bit, a lot.

🟢 A Princeton rich student/a long-term inmate
🟡 Age gap 25/48
🟠 Size difference
🟣 Both straight --> GFY
🔵 They're in prison for about 5 years, then both get out
🌶️ Some sex, full consent, monogamous; frotting, oral, penetrative; t/b

Ryan is from a rich family, a Princeton student that gets caught with coke, so he goes to prison, even his rich dad can't save him, which was surprising, even more surprising was the fact that the dad visited him only once per year and the mother never. But they got along and everything, only I guess they didn't really give a shit? But then Ryan got money and help when he was out, so that was very unclear.

Ryan gets the protection of Ray, the guy who's been in this prison ever since it opened, so he's been here about 25 years and he wants a friend, so he tells Ryan he won't rape him, he just wants someone he can trust and do business with and that's it.

"“If you start jacking I’m going to come in two seconds. I’m serious.”
“Come baby, come, baby, baby, come, come.” He sang the lyrics of the old rap song in his own slow lucid way."

Of course that's not it, Ray wants Ryan and eventually with the development of their friendship Ryan gets attached, although he still can't see himself having sex with a guy (coke will help)

"I probably could put up with him fucking me because I loved him. Giving Harrison what he wanted more than anything in the world was an awesome prospect to me. I just would have preferred that didn’t involve having a man’s dick in my ass."

but he does it because he's horny, so they start having sex and even though they just state out of the blue that they're now in love and they keep telling you how in love they are, I didn't feel it. Couldn't.

There was no connection felt between them, we didn't get to know Ryan or Ray much, so I can't really tell how they both feel or think, especially Ray, since we didn't get his POV.

"He jabbed his cock hard into me several times afterwards. “You fucking little bitch! I wanted to savor your sweet little hole.”"

This is all you'll get from Ray. Some dirty talk here and there and some mundane stuff he's talking about, mostly him accommodating Ryan, but in a complete prison, business setting, not a romantic one. You won't get what Ray's about, what's his story, how he feels in prison, how he feels about Ryan, nothing. Not a fleshed out character, even less than Ryan.

This story would be better if it were just erotica, if this was just the dirty talk and crazy sex around the prison without the rest, if Ray really was a Daddy and the sexual chemistry were palpable like this

“Daddy— please. Umph… uh! Let me come. Then you can fuck me, daddy. Fuck me… uh! With your huge cock.”
Harrison gave a euphoric shudder. “Ohhhh.” His voice turned throaty. “You sweet little bitch.”

haha 😂 but it wasn't! Instead, the plot was gasping for air and it died. It died with a too abrupt ending and the last final developments when they both got out of prison were simply dealt with a couple of sentences.

If you've read His Fake Prison Daddy - this is not it. Not even remotely like it. It has some of the same elements, but it's not as good. That was a really good prison romance, this one is a draft.

This book was amazing! I've always had a thing for inmate gay romance, but this novel went beyond my expectations. I absolutely loved the plot and the characters were very well developed. I completely understand why anyone would fall for Harrison, especially Ryan. ;) It was short short, but I loved it! That's why I read it quite a few times times. :)

This novel definitely deserves 5 stars!

While I quite enjoyed the simple, straight forward style that this was written in, it left a lot to be desired.
The beginning had me wanting more! More problems, more thugs, more danger! He locked himself in solitary to begin with because he was afraid, but then that fear rarely comes back. When he ends up afraid, it's usually a false alarm and the prison aspect wasn't as formidable as I first imagined it would be written as.
While I liked the first half of the story, it dissolved into really only sex scenes before skipping several years and him getting out of jail, apparently without ever being assaulted by another inmate. Why wouldn't someone target him considering he was the boyfriend of a jail drug dealer? Wouldn't someone else who is selling drugs want to take him out? Or perhaps someone who owes them money might know that he's keeping the numbers and hope that if they distract everyone by hurting him they won't remember the money?
Everything just seemed a bit too easy for the protagonist and when he got out of jail they just casually kept together with no issues surrounding the fact that they're both straight and now surrounded by women.
I just didn't find this book to be up to scratch with Abraham's usual level of writing.

This was a very slow burning, uneventful story, about a young guy going to jail and against all odds finding love with a much older inmate.
No drama, not much angst and still very sweet and enjoyable.
Ryan is 18 years old, when he is sentenced to 25 years for drug dealing, although he only carried cocaine for his own consumption. The authorities want to set an example, so neither money nor his father's influence can help.
Of course he is scared shitless, not being gay the idea of being raped is a horror.
When another inmate suggests to get a "daddy" to protect him, that does not sound like a much better solution but having not much choice he agrees. Surprisingly Ray is a decent and friendly guy, who gives Ryan the time he needs to accept their arrangement.
Even more surprisingly he finds himself falling in love, as the months go by.
I had a good time reading this, I absolutely love prison romance and this was one of the good books with that trope.
Above average, 4 star read for me and recommended if you don't need a lot of action and adventure but like exploring an unconventional relationship develop.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Seeing the cover art and title, I girded my loins for a brutal story that I would normally only find in yaoi or HBO. Rape is mentioned often, but it's more Ryan's fear rather than anything that happens to him in the story. It is set in a prison, so expect drugs and a certain level of violence, but it's a surprisingly romantic GFY story given the setting. The romance is slow burn between Ryan and Ray, but the affection they share feels deserved. The story is definitely in the realm of 'too good to be true', but so what? I enjoyed the emotional journey and left feeling satisfied with the read.

Believable straight to gay

This may be the first straight to gay story that I've read that I actually believed could happen. Normally an author writes some really hot situation that is totally unlikely, or the character wasn't really straight in the first place. In this story I believed that Ryan was straight before prison and truly developed feelings and love for Ray. The prison itself also felt real - with actual security measures and believable situations for the inmates too experience.

I liked this book a lot. Yamila has a flare for making her characters either weak or very strong. She shows how these two gradually fall in love with each other over time and stay true to each other. I can not wait to see what she writes next. Erin
