Akash Karia is a professional speaker who has trained thousands of people worldwide, from bankers in Hong Kong to yoga teachers in Thailand to senior executives in Dubai. He is an award-winner trainer who has been ranked as one of the Top 10 Speakers in Asia-Pacific.
He writes books on public speaking and success, sharing proven tools and techniques for the price of a cup of coffee. What separates him from other authors is that his books are based on hundreds of hours of intensive scientific research. All these tools are delivered in a simple, easy-to-read, step-by-step format that you can implement immediately.
Save yourself the hassle of slogging through this entire book and just read chapter 17... All the previous chapters are summarized in 1-2 sentences, and that's all the information you really need.
Overall, this book was wordy. So many words repeating the same things over and over. The actionable knowledge chapters were completely useless and for the first few weren't even useful because you have no idea what you're supposed to be doing.
All this book is is a rehash of information found elsewhere and from much more reputable sources. You will be inundated with links every which way to places where the information was taken, and it's almost as if the author is going to get a kickback for directing traffic to those sites.
And finally, I was appalled by the laziness of the author regarding citations. 90% of the quotes used in the body of the book weren't even properly attributed. Shame on you. Just for that one act alone, I can't rate this over 1 star.
A useful little book which summarises a lot of helpful tips and techniques to help you beat the procrastination habit, there is nothing really new and innovative here. Consider it more like a school textbook, which teaches you some established information and then sets some exercises at the end of each chapter to ensure you've understood.
That said, if you follow the advice contained herein and actually do those exercises, you WILL get more efficient in your writing techniques. From simple-but-effective advice like 'eliminate distractions' through to more sophisticated techniques such as using pomodoros to help you sprint-write, all these techniques are tried and proven. Implement only some of them, and you'll reduce procrastinating and increase your writing efficiency.
Sadly, I can't find this book available for sale now, but I understand it's incorporated into other books by the author. If procrastination is an issue for you, you might want to consider checking them out.
This is a concise yet compressor complete guide, supported by research. I loved Akash's use of "in a nutshell" chapter notes at he end of each chapter and the action steps to make immediate use of the information. The quotes and examples he used throughout this book really made the lessons stick. After reading this book I feel motivated instead of overwhelmed. I had just finished reading another book on writer procrastination that left me confused and cold before reading Akash's book. What a relief to find real help.
I don't know the author personally. This is a REAL REVIEW. I recommend this book if you find that tomorrow never comes when it comes to writing. The cure is here.
This book is a compilation nuggets to help you stop wasting time and start working on your book. You've probably already heard most of the advice elsewhere. That's fine. It's good to have it bundled together in one readable, inexpensive book.
If you need a quick jolt of inspiration to get to work and stop wasting time on the internet, then this book is for you.
I assumed this would be a mediocre book full of tips I've heard elsewhere. To my surprise, I found quite a few new/interesting ideas for increasing productivity, a couple of which I've already put into practice. I'm finding it useful not only as a writing resource, but for quite a few things I have to motivate myself to do each day. Love it!
I needed this. A clear, quick read packed with really useful tips. I've been recommending this book to many of my coaching clients, as the techniques can be used for more than just writing.
I will preface this review by saying that I have not read other books on combating procrastination. I suspect because of this -- I found this book to be to-the-point without being overly verbose -- which made it an insightful read for me. The suggestions/tools given in this book where plentiful and could very easily be applied to any other areas in your life, not just writing. There were several suggestions/tools that I will be implementing within my day to day life. And some that I already have started doing. It felt like a treasure trove for me.
CONCLUSION: Likely an excellent read for anyone who has not already read a lot of books on the subject of procrastination. Those who appreciate brevity will enjoy the plentiful volume of suggestions/tools contained in this book.
This book is extremely helpful and absolute garbage at the same time!!! The author has written countless short, self-help, ted-talk-style ebooks. Judging from his writing, I wouldn't expect too much out of any of them. BUT, at the same time, he is most definable prolific. So search for advice on quality, organization, or language elsewhere, but his simple advice on conquering procrastination is really helpful. I found it motivational to just read a page or two at a time when I'm stuck on my own writing. Even when the advice wasn't that great or was something I already do, it got me off my ass.
I like reading books most of time when i come get back work . you know this talks about how you stay from procrastination on writing. actually this book its very crucial for every body who wants to be a writer.
While there are some good ideas for beating procrastination, it's nothing you couldn't find widely available on efficiency/time management blogs. The author does reference several sites and apps that might help, so I suppose having them in one place can help you save time.
Also, I was constantly slowed down by the number of typos - incorrect words, missing words, extra words.
This little e-book took about an hour to read, and provided over twenty devices to deal with procrastination. The author neatly sums up techniques that are already familiar, but he does it in an enjoyable and concise fashion. It is hard to procrastinate the reading of this book.
I originally rated it three stars because I liked it well enough, but didn't love the tone of the book that much, and wasn't sure I was really hearing anything new... but since finishing I've employed several of the tools and it really has helped me stop procrastinating. So it gets a bump in stars for motivation!
This book was a quick read and helpful. You won't necessarily find anything new or groundbreaking in this book, but there are some solid tips and good reminders for those like me who struggle with procrastination.
I found the techniques in this book quite useful. I usually don't read books on productivity, but I found this one short and helpful, so I liked it. I even used the Pomodoro technique to finish reading the book :-)
Great book! Simple and easy to read. Akash cuts to the point and gives you great tips to bust out of a procrastination rut. I'm actually about to finish writing my book thanks to Akash! It's a must read!
