I wanted to love this book, however, it just did not turn out that way. Brette goes back and forth between being sassy and bold, or wimpy and whiny. Truman was interesting and I mostly liked him. The pairing is not exactly a good time.

This is a great concept, except it is not very well executed. The writing is stilted and oddly formal at times. I would venture to guess that the author did not grow up with English as a first language. It has that feel in the dialogue and narrative. It all added to the strange feeling of the read.

This is all from Brette’s POV, which wasn't the greatest because I struggled to like her. Her inconsistencies in character were too much at times. The “cream puff” stuff only annoyed me. Add on her anxiety disorder that came and went.

The side plots were plentiful. Not one but two separate dramas to deal with. They seemed to drag and did not have enough build or draw in the resolutions. Very disappointing.

It is a smexy read. Loads of hawt and heavy steam. There are a few phrases could have done without, especially as they are repeated often! Her “feminine folds”, his “more than average” size and pretty much any descriptive terms were used incessantly. It takes you out of the scene which should have been uber hot.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Zandria Drake, who was delightful. This was one of the reasons I finished the book. Definitely the case of a narrator carrying the read. She has a great tone and energy that creates movement in the story. I would love to hear her on something else because she was wonderful.

Overall, this was a disappointing read, I am willing to give this author another shot. I have hope that she will grow and deliver a better story given time.

Disclosure – I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own. I was under no obligation to post a review or give positive feedback.

*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review!

Mated To The Dragon

Unfortunately, I did not care for this shifter romance much. I'm not sure what exactly bothered me with the story. However, the best response I can offer is that it felt chaotic. There were two major plots against the MCs and it just felt that it was a bit excessive on the plot points. Others may not at all be bothered by this but it didn't work for me. I would have possibly enjoyed the story if there had been only one major plot point. And all the psychic gifts, and spatial rifts, and exes, and overthrow attempts were chock full in a fairly short book. Too much, in my humble opinion. But again, others may actually enjoy that.

Mated to the Dragon of Manhattan(A BBW paranormal romance book 1) by Amira Rain,Simply Shifters

A keep you glued to the page reading experience. I enjoyed the steady growth of her characters and the twists and turns in this parallel universe where dragons rule. Though she is pretty easily accepting and in the beginning is quite a scared acting little mouse she develops into the role of courage with a good strong backbone. I loved the Dragon Lord's alpha tends to be able to be strong, caring, supportive yet dangerous and sexy. I recommend you check out this fantastic read and author.

This book was so bad I couldn't even finish reading it. The plot was sketchy and there wasn't much dialogue.

A new author for me and I am not sure how much experience she has.
A pity as I expected better from the blurb. Writing was slightly Barbara Cartlandish but with sex scenes.
Not a bad story but not great either.
The heroine was wish washy, overly dramatic and TSTL at times.
Truman was okay if a bit of a nutcase towards Brette.
Liked the characters we met and would have loved to read and know more about them all.
Luckily this was a free read.

I don't know what possessed me to pick up another audiobook by Amira Rain since the last one I read/listened to from her was not stellar but what can I say ... dragons!

This book, is like, you know, literally, like, hilarious! Seriously, she totally writes like this and you have to believe she literally says these things, like, literally! It's like reading or listening to one great big Facebook status update, because, seriously, it's like, how people talk, like, when they are commenting on something, ya know?!?

This book is, in a nutshell, dreadfully written. The writing is not good. It is written in such a juvenile fashion it brings to mind the movies Clueless and Mean Girls. Everyone speaks like they are in high school, you know, like, above. :-p

That said, in all it's dreadfulness, I found the book hilarious and entertaining and it's likely because it was so badly written that it was so entertaining. It's like watching a train wreck. You can't look away.

Brette and the other women in the book spoke and interacted as though they were still in high school. If you've watched Clueless you will know what I mean. There is one scene early on in the book where Brette is lying through her teeth about an imaginary boyfriend. It's ridiculously funny. The hilarity in that scene was a high point in the book.
As for Truman, he's supposed to be Lord and Ruler of the entire nation and yet he says things like this:
"And if I do, you can lock me in here with no food and no water, and make me write thousands of sentences, all saying the same thing: 'It is not nice to tease, especially young women as sweet and beautiful as Brette Morgan.'"
What kind of alpha male, dragon shifter does that make him? What adult male would say that kind of thing?

The disconcerting thing about this book is the fact that the writing is terrible and written for high school readers instead of adults and yet it is an erotic romance. It's difficult to reconcile the explicit sex scenes with the childish language used. Ms Rain needs to learn other words to describe the vagina and penis beyond "feminine folds" and "rod" if she's going to continue to write erotic romance. She uses those words way too many times and every time I heard it, there was an eye roll. Her sex scenes are not sexy. They come across somewhat clinical without showing the emotional connection between the characters who are having sex.

I tried reading this book rather than listening to it. Reading just made it worse and ruined the whole reading experience for me. Fortunately, I had a few mindless chores I needed to do and listening to this alleviated in the boredom from the chores.

I'm still giving this 3 stars because of its entertainment value. I found it enormously hilarious despite the bad writing. If I was rating this on the writing alone, it would have been 1.5 or 2 stars.

Entertaining,

I could say thaT this was an entertaining light reading, just a few hours, first book I read about dragon shifters, parallel words and that I liked the hero and heroine. And it was going well until I read a fundamental, unexplainable and unjustified error about the physical description about Brette, with an e at the end. Really not consistent in the eye color?. An other thing, was it really necessary in all the steamy scenes, to call the heroine's anatomy feminine this or feminine that all the time; @ times more than three times in the same sentence. It is as if the author is ashamed Of writing the scenes. I will try some of her others books, mainly because I liked the story line.

Really enjoyed this different dragon story. Ordinary bank teller Brette manages to end of in a "different" N Y. One run by Lord Truman--a dragon shifter--hot guy. After some "Put the Fear Into" actions she is jailed--I should be so lucky to be in that jail--and a whole new world. Not only that Lord Truman doesn't that there is anything normal about the curvy woman.

Does she want to go back or create a new life here with all the hot dragon people? And will her decision make a difference with the warring factors?

I read the book and listened to the audio. Enjoyed it both ways and recommend it to any dragon shifter fan.

This book is romance, suspense, erotica, and scifi all rolled into one. Amira Rain delivers a different interesting take on a dragon shifter tale. Curvy Brette finds herself in a parallel world and is told she is the leader's mate. I was immerse in the tale following Brette as she tried to understand what had happen to her and then her feelings for Lord Stone. I love the self improvement discussions Bretter had with herself. I hope that we get some tales of the other dragons soon. This book is a keeper and should be added to your shelf.

I needed something light but I just couldn't enjoy this.
It had a world and ideas far more complicated and I don't think the author used them, it could have been such a great book. Paralell worlds, dragons, power, betrayal, romance, all elements soo interesting but not well developed.
Also something that made me angry: they loved each other after they saw once and argued once? Nope. Not for me.
I didn't like how the book was written, it felt weird and kind of uncomfortable.
Definitely not for me.

This book was so enjoyable to read! As is always the case with Ms. Rain, this story had me wiping tears of laughter from my eyes so I could keep on reading. The story was well written and edited. If you enjoyed "Her Lion Guard", you are going to love "Mated to the Dragon of Manhattan". I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review, which I am pleased to offer. I can't wait to see the next book in this series!

It was a little long winded. .
Brette kept saying over and over again.. I trust him. I trust him
Who was she trying to convince?
Introducing another antagonist near the end of the book was
A little strange. I went back a few pages to see if I'd missed
The introduction of Mara earlier in the story but, nope she'd just popped up.
But it was ok. Not sure if I'd read the next book if there was one.
But hey, that's just me.

Brainless heroine

Heroine falls thru a dimensional tear to a parallel universe where Dragon shifters rule the United States. Shortly after has sex with the king shifter. Has to decide whether to return home before the tear closes. Saves king from bad guys. HEA ensues. Very little character development. Not sure what he sees in her.Very little world building.

Original, entertaining, and exciting

Parallel worlds, Dragon shifters, friends and foes. This is a very well written self-contained story with lots of action and adventure. It almost felt like a few stories or adventures in one book containing all the same characters in at. Highly recommend with high praises to the author.

Wow, what a ride of emotions, the story plot was a great, and the characters were awesome. I loved reading about dragon shifters; they are my favorites. Once I started reading; I couldn't put it down; I just had to finish. Highly recommended and it's one of those books that you want more.

I don't know what was wrong with this book, but I disliked it to the point where I didn't even finish it. I got 2/3rds of the way through or so and then I was so bored that I just gave up, something I rarely do. It's not necessarily actively bad, it's just dull. And this is disappointing because I thought the premise sounded intriguing.

Amazing

This book blew my mind I could not put it down. This author is absolutely amazing. She will keep you on your toes and wanting more. Her dragons are all alpha males and adore their females with a passion that is out of this world. I would recommend this author and her books to all my friends.

A different kind of book

It's a "shifter" story but with a different twist. A parallel dimension that's like ours but in a slightly different setting. I didn't think I'd like this book but by the end of the first chapter I was hooked and didn't stop till I finished. I really liked this book and I'd recommend it

Would be 5 but

This is really a great book & I would give it 5 stars, except 1 lil detail that bugs me on a personal level. The book blurb tells a small lie. I didn't read anywhere where Brette was told she had to be his mate or die.
