Special Agent for the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife Services, Tracey Whittington, takes down wildlife traffickers and more, but what she doesn't expect is to be in a shootout, multiple times, when the business turns deadly. Nor does she suspect she'll be working with Hal Haverton, who serves as a part-time deputy for Yuma Town, Colorado, and runs his own horse ranch. As long as he doesn't stop her investigative work—she has been placed on administrative leave due to the last shootout—she'll be just fine.
Hal Haverton has every intention of keeping the wild cat safe, even if it means helping her to solve the case when every time he turns around, she's involved in another shootout. When her boss asks their good friend, the sheriff, to have one of his deputies serve as a bodyguard for the cougar shifter, Hal's all for it. So is the other deputy, but Hal's got this covered. Even if getting somewhere with the lady means having his gun ready at all times. There are definite perks to getting to know the Special Agent better—if they live long enough to do something about it.
Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

Call of the Cougar is book two in the Heart of the Cougar series by Terry Spear.
Tracey Whittington is a Special Agent for the Fish and Wildlife Services and she is a cougar shifter. She takes her job very seriously and has taken out several poachers and saved the lives of many animals. She had a tip that there was some ivory being hidden in an old abandoned town in Colorado but instead of finding ivory, she found herself in a very unexpected shootout. Six months later, a similar tip, ending with yet another shoot out.
Tracey is now on administrative leave and her boss wants her protected. So he sends her to Yuma Town, Colorado to the fishing resort of his friend Chase whom we met in book one. He has asked two of Yuma Town’s deputies to protect her, both of whom are single, both cougar shifters, and both hoping that Tracey might be interested in them for more than just protection.
Hal Haverton is a part time deputy for Yuma Town and lives and works on his ranch. He is very excited about the upcoming birth of his first foal. When he hears about Tracey, he is more than willing to help to protect her. What he didn’t expect was Tracey’s commitment to solve this case, regardless of her orders to remain on administrative leave. The more time Hal and Tracey spend together, the stronger their attraction becomes. Hal’s life is here on the ranch, though, and Tracey clearly loves her job. Could she ever consider a life on his ranch as his wife and mate?
As much as I enjoyed the first book of this series, I sadly have to say that this one didn’t work for me. There are some pretty good steamy scenes between Hal and Tracey and I enjoyed revisiting Chase and Shannon from book one. The cover is beautiful as well. But I just couldn’t connect with these characters and the story just seemed to be kind of all over the place. I hate having to admit this because I had been really looking forward to this book. I usually really enjoy Terry Spear’s books but for me, this one just didn’t work out. I doubt I will continue this series if there are any additional books added in the future.
Dedicated Fish and Wildlife agent cougar Tracey Whittington is hot on the trail of a smuggling ring and things get too exciting for her twice, so close they're starting to look personal. The pesky and elusive smuggling ring endangers Tracey's life one too many times and she's sidelined in place, in the very capable hands of her boss' ex-military friends that happen to be Yuma town's law enforcement team.
Still smarting over missing his shot at the latest single female to hit Yuma Town, part time deputy Hal Halverson is in the right place this time but still doesn't exactly have a clear shot since Tracey's decided she's not in the market for romance. Convincing Hal rogue shifters are involved isn't hard and it soon becomes clear that it's very personal!
Despite the busy-ness and fullness of the read, it was entertaining and fairly smooth. Also, Tracey representing a different branch of law enforcement with a rampant and thriving smuggling market that may not be too far off the mark is a real nod to animal activists but this reader did giggle about the particular booty in Colorado. Rating: 4stars
OMG!! I SOOOO LOVED IT AND I LOVED HER JOB!!!! 2 keep the wildlife safe is awesome but when she has issues with her case she will do everything in her power 2 catch the killer of her partner and who hurt her other partner. But she wasn't expecting was a special officer 2 help her and save her and prove a few things 2 her that she didn't think she would ever want 4 her future and she got a few bonuses with it.
There was a lot going on in this book - two men competing for the same woman, two newly turned cougars and a drug smuggling ring. It felt like a little too much - I wanted to focus on Bridgette’s story more.
Love this author but this book, maybe the series wasn't near as well written as her wolf shifter series, almost like it was written by some one else. Not as fast pace and lots of intrigue was missing, just ok for me, will give the next book in this series a try.
"Call of the Cougar" by Terry Spear. Book 2 in the Heart of the Cougar series.
I liked this book. I thought it was a good addition to the series. The main characters of Hal and Tracey were very likeable.
Tracey is a cougar-shifter working for the government helping track down animal-parts traffickers. He job is very dangerous and so far she's been in two shoot-outs, losing a partner in one and one partner getting severely injured. The trail of the trafficker she's hunting has brought her to an abandoned town in cougar-shifter territory where she meets Hal, part-time deputy sherif and all around hot cougar-shifter male. And just he just happened to save her life. Now he's assigned as her bodyguard because her boss thinks all these shooting are more personal towards Tracey, not just "bad-guys" trying to get away.
Hal never expected to fall for the beautiful she-cat Tracey, who seems to get shot at a lot. Now that he's her bodyguard, he's not letting her out of his sight. She's everything a male like him could want...passionate about her job, fiesty, a little bit stubborn, gorgeous, kind and caring. He will protect her with his life, and he plans to spend the rest of his life with her.
This book was a really sweet romance. Hal and Tracey's relationship just develops throughout the book, no emotional rollercoasters or misunderstandings between them to cause a rift. There is worry for each other during the more exciting action scenes and great chemistry in their intimate encounters. The rest of the plot reads a lot like a mystery/suspense with the reader trying to figure out who's trying to kill Tracey and who's telling the truth or lying. I must say that the storyline moves quite fast at times and I found myself thinking I missed something and re-reading a few paragraphs to check. Other than that, I liked this book. I'm glad I read it.
Cougar special agent perseveres through pain to get the bad guys AND the hot cougar
aalways enjoy Terry Spears' books, but this one seems special. The behind the paws viewpoint of the female cougar, who is a FWS agent, and her pursuit of the bad guys, has twists, turns and hot male cougars vying for her attention. Add in waterfall frolicking, puppies and a mare foaling and it's a real winner. You don't have to read this series in order, but i bet you'll be checking them out ASAP!
Really enjoyed this book in the series, I was happy to see Hal find his mate and just hope that Stryker will find his next. I'd love to see Dan find happiness too with a certain dispatcher! I wonder if Tracey's twin will get a book as well, maybe she'll settle down with a cougar from Yuma town. Can't wait for the next in the series!
Book 2 in Heart of the Cougar series. Another great story, brings back people from last book, laughs, action, hot cougar men . Has a great storyline going and interesting twist. Will be getting next book in series.
This is the first time I have read about mountain lion shifters. Not bad, but very different from wolves. Love the two main characters. A lot of police work verses other law enforcement books. Great story line, with alot of action.
Exciting, romantic and suspenseful. What more could you want in a book? Terry always brings her am A game. Hal and Tracey are perfect for each from the moment they meet. Now he has to convince her of that.
Absolutely fell in love with this series. I was so drawn into the world of Yuma town and the life of the cougars and what was going on around them. MUST READ...
Absolutely Love and recommend it to everyone. Suspenseful, exciting and Brilliantly written. Terry Spears writes books that are an escape from reality for lonely hearts.
It's so hard for me to rate this book !!! I loved Hal !!! And disliked Tracey :( I did not like how she was with Hal and Stryker which one !!!! So 3 stars just because of Hal !!!
Great story with lots of gun play and a little romance. Chasing the bad guys and always getting shot out Tracey tries to bring the bad guys into custody.
