Raised by hawks, on the top ledge of a New York apartment building, Oddry is a creative inventor who leads a secret life of adventure. So secret, she can't even talk to other humans. Her hawk parents forbid it. They believe that if humans discover Oddry, something bad might happen. But that's OK; Oddry has animal friends and can talk to them, and she is absolutely happy and content with her splendid life. Until one day a boy named Will discovers her, and her whole world changes forever.

What a gem! I don’t often pick up kids’ books now that my own kids are grown, but I was in the mood for a magical story and the synopsis of “Oddry” on Goodreads appealed to me. I really got caught up in this whimsical tale about a girl who was raised by hawks. She lives in a nest on the ledge of an apartment building in New York City. No one has actually seen her up close. She’s only been spotted from the corners of eyes, and so people are unsure if the urban legend of the “Bird Girl” is real. Born without a right hand, this inventive eleven-year-old creates mechanical attachments from junk she collects around New York City, including a “handable” (as she calls them) that allows her to fly. She befriends wild animals and even speaks their languages. This character is just wonderful! And her adventures with a boy named Will, the first human she meets, are fabulous! I loved the whole feel of this book, even as an adult. Obie Scott Wade is a delightfully imaginative storyteller.

Oddry is a cute story for children. The beautiful cover and imaginative story is great to show to one's kids. Although I would not recommend this story for anyone over 12, I think the unique plot and likable characters would attract and entertain all younger audiences.

Oddry is the epitome of a child. She portrys the innocence of a child-like wonder & trust & need for belongingness. Oddry is an awesome childs book for teaching children values, morals, and appreciation for differences in individuals. I highly recommend this book and intend to reread this book to special needs children so they can see Oddry's super powers as I see the power of encouragement & positive self projection in a little bird-girl that overcomes obstacles untarnished by the cruelness in this world. A Fabuluous read that will stay with you as it will touch your heart in a way that can never be forgotten.
My 9 year old grand daughter read this book and she loved it. She was enchanted by Oddry.She is taking the book to school to share with her friends...

I received a copy of this book through a goodreads giveaway. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this adventure of a little girl raised by hawks. Lots of imagination went into this story and I would love for my daughter to read this as I think this is a great story for kids of all ages. Great learning opportunity for kids to build strength of character and moral values.

This book was from a goodreads giveaway. Though it was clearly meant for a younger audience I loved reading the adventure of Oddry and WIll! The characters are completely lovable, the plot keeps you in suspense, and illustrations were so well done!
