Popular speaker Hank Smith says the inspiration for this talk came when his five-year-old daughter announced that she has a boyfriend! Hank was so shocked that the only thing he could think to say was, "What's his name?" His daughter answered that she didn't know but she was sure he likes her because he chases her at recess and tries to kiss her! At this point, Hank, ever the protective parent, tried to remain calm and said, "You have to breakup with him." Her response was: "What does that mean?"

In this entertaining and inspirational talk, Brother Smith explains the importance of "breaking up" with the things of the world that keep us from getting closer to the Savior. For some people these things may be TV shows or other media that offends the Spirit. For others it may be an unhealthy relationship or obsessive comparisons and competitions. Using his trademark humor and stories, Brother Smith teaches us to "lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better" (D&C 25:10). Break Up With the World is a talk youth will relate to and the whole family will enjoy.

Hank Smith enjoys teaching in the Religious Education Department at BYU and is a favorite speaker for Especially for Youth, Best of Especially for Youth, and BYU Education Week.

Hank and his wife, Sara, were both born and raised in St. George, Utah. They are the parents of one daughter and four sons. Brother Smith enjoys running marathons and eating lots and lots of ice cream (which is why he runs marathons). More than anything else, he loves being at home spending all day with his wife and children.

What do you need to give up? What in your life would you have a really hard time “breaking up” with that maybe you should? A TV show, social media, video games. If something is taking more of your time than it should, break up with it!

This is by far one of my favorite talks by Hank Smith!! Breaking up with the world is an amazing talk not only for teens but for the whole family. Every time I refer to dropping a new tv show or something like that I just saw " I broke up with it".
