To say Jack and Vivian Gordon’s marriage has been rocky would be an understatement. The Gordons have been on a roller coaster of love and lust, but can’t seem to get on the same page at the same time. This power couple needs a time-out to find their happily ever after. And life coach to Hollywood’s rich and powerful, Cora Rule, has just the solution – have the couple sign their divorce papers in a safe room…and lock them inside.
Although Mel (who also writes as Melinda Curtis) has lived in Georgia and Texas, she's a California girl at heart. Her earliest memories are of life on an isolated 50-acre sheep ranch in rural Sonoma County, California. Picture rolling hills covered in brown grass, a eucalyptus forest, a long gravel driveway lined with plump sheep and no sidewalks. It was a big deal to drive into town on a one-lane road in a ramshackle, bubble-fendered pickup for an ice cream.
Flash forward to this century. Melinda lives in California's hot central valley with her husband - her basketball playing college sweetheart. With three kids the couple has done the soccer thing, the karate thing, the dance thing, the Little League thing and, of course, the basketball thing.
Melinda writes sweet to medium heat contemporary romances as Melinda Curtis and red hot reads as Mel Curtis. She loves writing romances about women who don't realize how strong they are until a hero comes along to show them, while capturing the wry humorous power struggle of falling in love - because, really, who lets the man have the last word?
Ms. Curtis always brings characters to life and makes them real. Her plots are filled with twists and turns as her characters work through their challenges.
I loved reading about Jack and Vivian's love/hate relationship in Cora's Rules, you can see that they both still very much love each other yet they can admit it to everyone but each other. So, when it comes to signing the divorce papers, they are both need a little bit of a push to stop them in their tracks before they make one of the most biggest mistakes of their lives. Cora has witnessed both sides of the story, helping them both as a life coach she hasn't had much success, so Cora decides to throw them together in a room in which they have no escape out of until the next morning. Cora hoped that this would help them and everyone else who only wants what is best for them. Although, regardless of how much Jack and Vivian talk they always end up back in the same place, arguing that they both know what is right but this time its different, they are different. The last year has changed a lot for both of them and when they are faced with their problems face-to-face, things take a turn for the worse when a incident happens. Although it finally puts what truly matters into perceptive and now it is just about making it happen in the light of day. Breaking The Rules is an amazing novella that can easily be finished in one sitting, with it's passion and crazy antics I couldn't help but get gripped by the story that is Jack and Vivian and their unique relationship. If I had to sum this book up in three words, they would be Passionate, Lovely and Thrilling.
Vivian and Jack are going through a divorce which Vivian doesn’t want. She thinks if she brings his green eyed monster out he will come to find that he still loves her. She does everything she can to keep him thinking about her as she does her best to make him jealous. She goes from one extreme to the next like a crazy woman. When love is in the mix one does not always think clearly. This was a short read that if one tells anymore they will give the story away.
The characters at times are very likable and at others times not so much. I do understand where Vivi was coming from but she sure went around it the wrong way which gives the reader a very entertaining read. It isn’t one of my favorites from this series but makes a great attention to it.
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Vivian and Jack have had issues for several years. They both still love each other but they are both too stubborn to fully trust the other and make things right. Then Jack tricks Vivian and locks them in his safe room together all night. In the morning they will either file their divorce papers or shred them. This was a very hot story. It was nice to get to know Jack and Vivian more. We really got to learn a lot about their past and their relationship. I loved the whole message of trust being important in any relationship. This was a great addition to the Rules books.
Jack is an NBA basketball team owner who has just won the title. But he has done some things behind his wife's back that have shattered her trust in him. With their marriage ending, Jack has one last chance to win Vivian back. Locking them in a safe room overnight, he tries to convince her they are meant to be. Vivian has only ever wanted one thing. For Jack to love her. But she doesn't think he does.Throughout the night she finds out things about Jack that she never knew only proving to her he never loved or trusted her. Jack loves her but doesn't know how to prove it to her. Can Jack prove to Vivian his love and win her trust? Can Vivian forgive Jack and reunite with the man she loves?
This is a great, fun, sexy read! It's part of a series but can be read stand alone. The writing is incredible and the characters are fun and intriguing. Jack and Vivian are one Hollywood's power couples and they should have it all but what they really need....some time alone, serious talk, and some good sexy times. Read this light quick read and enjoy an afternoon fully. I highly recommend it.
A very quick read, when couples lose their way in their marriage, do you just throw in the towel or do you give it one more chance? How about lock them in a room and see what happens? A story about finding their way back to one another, very heartfelt....well not always. It was a good read, I liked the characters. A fun read.
Awesome book! Mel Curtis gave Jack so much depth in this book I couldn't believe I was rooting for him and Viv to get back together. Up til this book I thought she could do better. Boy was I wrong. Loved this entire series hope there is more to come.
Read as part of an anthology, this is a hot, exciting installment of The Hollywood Rules series. Betrayal and broken trust issues need drastic measures to resolve.
