Angels #2

Earth Angel

Abby Vogel lives in the world of her harp. She plays and sings like an angel for beachfront weddings and other events around beautiful Piper Beach. No one else needs to know that angels keep her company. They wouldn’t understand. Gwynne Abernathy blames herself for the deaths of her sister and mother. Her psychic gifts have brought her only grief, and she’s turned her back on anything that isn’t “normal.” But the moment her path crosses with Abby’s she’s drawn to her. Abby knows right away that there is more to Gwynne than meets the eye. When she realizes that Gwynne sees the angels too she finally accepts that they’re more than a figment of her imagination. What’s more, the angels desperately need something from her. If she answers their call it means giving up the magic she feels with Gwynne. It means giving up…everything.

Both books in this series remind me of how out of alignment my likes and dislikes are with other readers as I loved both books, and neither book was exactly well received by the public. Eh, happens.

This book takes place in the same small city as the first book, includes a character from that book, now as a main character (Gwynne), and introduces the third short petite main character in the series Abby.

Megan is/was a massage therapist in the first book & Kira is/was a businesswoman. This book stars Gwynne as the new manager of Kira's spa & 'retired' massage therapist, and stars Abby the harper (plays a harp but isn't a harpist because they play a different type of harp).

Megan & Kira's book was well written and flowed great. While it included fantasy elements, angels and energy healing, it was a lot more grounded in reality (which might sound odd to those who have read that book but not this book).

Abby & Gwynne's book also is well written and flows great, but dives a lot more deeply into, as Kira put it in the first book, woo-woo land. Deeper, that is, into Angel land.

I rather liked both main character, and their stories.

I should not attempt to write when watching tv. Mmphs, I can't recall what I've written & what I wanted to write.

A sequel of sorts to Caldwell's "Angel's Touch," Gwynne Abernathy (who as introduced in the prior book) is devastated when her mother and younger sister die. She does energy healing for a living, but she was powerless to save either of them. Disillusioned, she takes a managerial job and leaves energy healing - and the angels who couldn't help her - behind.

Abby Vogel, a harpist...err...harper, sees angels; she just doesn't think anyone else can. The angels have always guided her, but now a new angel she doesn't recognize - Elle - has some earth-shattering news about Abby's past - and future. But to follow the angels, she has to leave Gwynne behind.

I really liked this book. The author's first book kind of meandered around, but this one stayed on track much better. I'm not sure if it's the editing or the author's increasing writing skills ("Angel's Touch" was the author's first novel), but whatever the reason, I appreciated it.

Recommended for those who enjoyed "Angel's Touch" or those who like some New Age in their lesbian romances.

This series was a wonderful surprise. Magic and angels or ghosts are all topics that are tricky for me. Caldwell's approach to the magic and angels worked very well for me. It was very matter-of-fact, serious and felt realistic to me. I thoroughly enjoyed the series. I highly recommend it, and will be rereading it, I am sure.

Trigger Warning: a bunch of suicide talk/suicide attempts/attempting to get someone to kill themselves/successful suicide attempt/drug overdose/drug-assisted deaths and so on.

Would recommend only reading if in a particularly stable mindset.
