When Peter finds himself caught in a speed trap in the same small Wyoming town where he was once a foster child, six weeks of community service feels like an eternity. Until he runs across an old friend who seems more than happy to see him, and the attraction is instantaneous. But can the magic of Christmas and a love he'd never known be enough to make him think about giving up his wandering ways? Through the years, Kevin found himself wondering about Peter and where he wound up when he was pulled from their community into yet another "home." But when they reconnect again, he discovers that in all his travels, Peter never had a real home. As Kevin's feelings deepen, he knows the one thing he needs to do to keep Peter is show him that true happiness boils down to opening yourself to love. And a little mistletoe doesn't hurt either.

Thoroughly enjoyable but a little too short. In fact, the only reason this isn't a five star review, is because it's so well written and I was so quickly drawn in, then boom... it's over. I want more so I'll definitely be on the look out for this author from now on. Okay, I changed my mind. Five stars.
It’s hard to create a deep connection to the characters in 39 pages, so I’m not surprised that this story fell flat.
Wandering ex-foster kid winds up meeting the one kid who as ever kind to him. He’s stuck doing community service for 30 days. He agrees to stay with his old friend. They’re both gay. So you can guess what happens.
The sex scene took up half the book. They supposedly felt an amazing connection during it. I didn’t feel much.
There’s mistletoe and abandonment issues and an HEA.
a cute short story that doesn't stick in the memory. I would love to see this fleshed out and made into a novel or even a novella. Kevin and Peter were friends for 6 month while Kevin was with a foster family in rural Wyoming. 15 years later, Kevin is back and will be there for 4 weeks for community service for speeding. Takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas.mild angst and Kevin's feelings of unworthiness to be loved and to love cause him to flee before he has an epiphany that he loves and is loved by Peter.
Sweet little second-chance short story- I even shed a tear or 2! Something about characters who've been in foster care really hit me in the feels, and even though this was such a short story I still felt so sad for Peter. I'm glad he ended up back in his home town, and that Kevin was there for him. It was nice to see him get a happy ending after the life he'd been living.
3.5 stars, this was a cute little story, sexy but sweet, althought very short, I was able to know quite enough on the characters and I loved both of them.
This was a sweet Christmas love story about a second chance at friendship and more for two former childhood friends. Due to the shortness there is not a great deal of character building, but what is there makes them likable. The story is steamy and hits that right note to put you in the spirit of Christmas.
This is a m/m contemporary romance short story set in Wyoming. I really enjoyed the story and it gave me a little Christmas in May. I loved how Kevin & Peter played off each other and that they had a great dynamic.
Peter grew up in the system, moving from foster home to foster home. He's never had a real family or roots or a home. As he's crossing Wyoming, going through a town he spent some time in as a kid, he gets caught in a speed trap and assigned 6 weeks of community service. As he's working at the local homeless shelter, he runs into a guy who was a good friend to him when he lived their as a kid, Kevin. Kevin and his family had treated him so well that Peter has always remembered them. When Kevin realizes it's his old friend, he's thrilled. He'd been really upset when Peter had just disappeared over night and his caseworker wouldn't tell him or his family where he'd been placed.
Peter is also happy to see Kevin and his family, although it highlights for him just what he's never had and probably never will. Nonetheless, Kevin's family makes him feel welcome and cared for all over again. He agrees to stay with Kevin during the rest of his community service. Turns out they are both gay, and there is a building attraction there. Peter enjoys spending time with Kevin and as they get closer, things move into the physical realm. They seem really compatible - in every way.
But Peter is still a bit jumpy and skittish and he does still have a job to get to - the one he was headed for when he was pulled over. Kevin of course does not want him to go. He does his best to convince Peter to stay and make a real home and put down roots. When he surprises Peter with a Christmas gift that clear indicates that he wants Peter to stay and make a go of their relationship, Peter has a hard time accepting that he can be successful. The question is, can Peter let go of his fear of abandonment in order to take a chance on the best thing that's every happened to him. :)
This is a quick story of friends to lovers with two guys who had been fast friends as kids, were separated and are reunited by a quirk of fate as adults. Despite Peter's past as a kid in the system, it's fairly low angst. Kevin is a great guy with a great family who had always felt something from Peter and is so happy to get the chance to know him again as a man rather than a boy. The parents in this story are also great - accepting of their son and generous with their caring and compassion. It's a really sweet story and just perfect for the holiday season.
Peter is working at a soup kitchen as part of his court-ordered community service. He was caught speeding while passing through a town he had partly grew up in. Growing up in the foster system, Peter never put down any roots to call home.
While serving the homeless on the day before Thanksgiving, he runs into a person from his past.
Kevin, a social worker, and Peter were very close while Peter was placed with a family who lived in the same town as Kevin's family.
They vaguely recognize each other since it had been years since they last saw each other. Kevin invites Peter to his family's Thanksgiving dinner. Peter is warmly welcomed by Kevin's parents when they realize who he is. Peter promises to spend Christmas day with them.
This story occurs over a few weeks and the two men fall into a routine. The steam is medium hot.
It is written well for a story that is 33 e-pages long. Don't expect too much and just enjoy reading.
In it’s short 39 pages my opinion of this story changed twice. When it began I was excited by the narrative and voice of the ✍️, but then I worried that though a different story than I had encountered in these 📚 so far, that it would end up incredibly “ABC Movie of the Week” and even when teetering close to that it remained original, heartfelt without being trite. Then came the lovemaking and though sincere for some reason I haven’t been able to put a finger on (for me, just for me), I didn’t feel the passion. Everything was there and it sounded good, but it felt flat. Again, I’m not sure why, but when it came to the “feels”, it was there in buckets, especially the close that easily could have come across as clichéd, but did not…
Set in Wyoming, the drifter returns to a former foster home town. Renewing a friendship, the story proceeds to describe the two men as the plot leads to Christmas. HEA bringing smiles and wet eyes. Heartwarming tale and quick read.
As I am a gatherer of books, I collect books and ebooks from a variety of sources: Goodreads wins, Bookhub, BookFunnel, emails from authors and publishers, and others. I do lose track of their sources. But, as a reader, I feel I should give an honest, unencumbered review for all I read.
A little friends to lovers story that makes you feel good. Peter was in the system when he was a kid, so he has a hard time trusting. Kevin was his foster brother, one of the few homes he loved. When they meet again as adults, sparks fly, but Peter has a hard time trusting and staying in one place. This was a short story, but sweet and hot. I wish it had been a little longer and had a little more depth.
Peter grew up going from foster home to foster home and as an adult, has never settled in one place for long. Caught speeding, he gets 6 weeks community service helping at the homeless shelter. And in walks Kevin, the one boy he had been friends with when he bad been in a home there. Good ending, but wanted to see what presents he would've been given all those years ago. And an epilogue showing the next Christmas with a proposal would've been perfect.
4.5 stars. Peter has lived a life without a home or family and it's left him wandering; expecting to always move on. Reconnecting with his childhood friend Kevin brings him full circle to the only place that ever gave him a glimpse of 'home'. Kevin opens his home and quickly opens his heart to Peter. I liked that he saw what it was that drove Peter. The ending is sweet and left me smiling.
How else do you explain Peter returning after so many years, Kevin remembering him and then falling in love? It's pure Christmas magic tucked into a short story. Liked it a lot.
short with a little heat. Nothing that stands out, but a pleasant read. Prior relationship as children. Reuniting, but then a 3 week time jump. So you don't really get the feelz. It just jumps right in.
A good start to a story, but it was a little too short to flesh out the story or the characters. I wanted to root for Peter and Kevin and needed just a little bit more story building to get there.
This is one of the best Christmas storyline so far this year. Two boyhood friends lost to the system brought back together as men by another kind of system.
