As stated before, this was a good little read. Some valid info and help in understanding popular social media outlets. Particularly Facebook and Twitter. A very, very LDS focused text. I am not of that faith, so it was distracting, quite often. Trailed off at the end like the author was trying to fill space but didn't have much to say. Definitely a first-half book. But well worth the time to read and the small price of the book, for believers of any Christian Faith.
I found this book helpful in the fact that the author did a good job at explaining how to use some of the most popular social media platforms for posting specific types of messages; especially for sharing the gospel. She then showed examples based from her faith background. I learned some new important information that will help me when posting my own messages.
Since the advent of social media the way people communicate has really changed. With so many people using various forms of social media, it has become a valuable communication tool. But like all tools, its effectiveness depends on how it is used. Since becoming a blogger, I have learned a great deal about different forms of social media and how valuable they can be, but there is always more to learn. Getting the advice of an social media marketing consultant seems like a good idea for anyone looking to boost their online connections. The focus in this particular book is sharing the gospel (the beliefs and doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormons) through social media.
The author spends the first chapter addressing terminology related to social media and what she calls "The Three Golden Rules of Communication." She addresses the need to 'create awareness', 'educate your audience', and providing a 'call to action'. Simply sharing one's beliefs she points out is not enough if it doesn't encourage others to seek further information or act on what they've read or heard. She also points out the important of knowing your audience. Sharing the gospel with those who are already members isn't what you are after if you are seeking missionary opportunities.
The rest of the book looks at each of the major social media sites, their features, and how they can best be used. There are lots of great tips and ideas, some of which I plan to implement at some point. The book is quite short but is a valuable resource for those who want to share their thoughts and feelings or gospel doctrine in an effective way. Highly recommended.
I liked reading this book on two different levels. The first was a good way to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and things not to do. The second it also helped me learn more about Social Media for small business. Like for my blog which is not a business but can help me reach more people.
Some of it is over my head. The second part of the book I got smarter and opened my computer as I read the book so I looked at things I had questions about and learned more. Now I want to go back and do that to first half of the book. So if you don't know what they are talking about to understand try it.
This has a lot of resources of different links for LDS Leaders, Mormon.org Facebook, Twitter and others. It tells you how to use different social media and why you might want to use one over the other. Even explained some of the different ones that I have only heard the names.
I found this to be helpful in many ways. I know I am going to like and share more in the future. I am glad I got to read and learn about Sharing the Gospel Through Social Media by Erin Ann McBride.
I was given this ebook by Cedar Fort Publishing. So I can give a honest review of Sharing the Gospel Through Social Media and be part of it's blog tour.
This book was pretty helpful. But it's aiming towards someone who is looking to create gospel social media accounts for wards, stakes, YSA wards, etc. and not really for someone who just simply wants to share the gospel through their personal social media.
Some great pointers on how to more effectively use social media to share a message, Gospel-related or not. I look forward to applying some of these ideas to my Facebook blog page.
