Sophie wouldn't call herself the prettiest or most popular girl at brand new Dublin High, but she does have a wickedly sharp tongue and a remarkable talent with paints and canvas.
Never too far from her sketchpad, she can’t seem to resist trying to capture the enchanting beauty of a new boy at her school – but thinks she’ll surely perish from embarrassment when he catches her in the act. To her surprise, he is impressed with her skill, and even ends up coming over to sit for her.
With such a perfect muse, Sophie’s artistic skills develop rapidly, and with such a handsome and charming young man interested in her, it seems like she’ll be more than prepared for both the art gallery opening and the Homecoming dance!
But, while her own life skips along, interrupted only by a terrible recurring stomach flu, her town is undergoing some mysterious changes. Snow in a Texas September is unheard of, a terrible fire takes out the end of her block, and there’s something whispering in the shadows…
Her friends warn her away from her captivating new love interest, saying he is dark, cold, dangerous – but his touch is too electric to pull away, even when it’s clear that he is not what he seems...perhaps not even human.
I've got about half way through this book and I swear, what is this author thinking. Comments like "Monday, you're going on the pill" (Not exact words) from her mother just made me cringe! I get that the author is trying to convey a friend rather than a mother, but that is just too casual, if you wanted to make that obvious, crude and immature language like that just doesn't set the scene correctly. To me it should be a dark sort of atmosphere with this loving relationship, it just doesn't gel. Everyone is so clued up yet clueless...
The heroine, I want to like, at moments the author's character is spot on shes funny kind of quirky. Then it is as if the author was having a bad day while writing that chapter and she starts acting like a toddler...
It is also SO SO SO SO unclear what the heck Aidan, and this dreamy Ben Lankin is. I also take offence to why both guys are so drop dead gorgeous, like really? Your creativeness is lacking here. The actions and personalities are so bipolar of each character of this book I am not certain if I'll be carrying it on...

Review part 2 -- Same Day, 17:28
Not going to sugar coat it too much, but I really have No idea what the heck this book is. I can't even make a sentence, it is just so bad I actually want to just delete it from the kindle.
Putting the star rating down to 2, though its really a 1.5, it just bounces around from one hot rock to another making very little headway, then BAM books over because the author's realized shes pushing x number of papers. Not certain why this series is going ahead to be quite frank.. It is a little strange.
Can firmly say I will not be rereading, or buying the second part. I only had this one because it is free. Other than that I wouldn't bother.
3.5 stars. Ok, I'm not really sure if I even wanted to like this book, it was free, I thought why not? But I'm really glad I did read it.
I loved all the plot twists and turns and I wasn't expecting most of them. I guessed around the middle of it what Ben was but not Aidan. I thought they might have something to do with hot and cold or the seasons but I was quite wrong.
I was starting to really like Ben and I always liked Aidan but I was so surprised. The main character was called Sophia/Sophie (like in Hex Hall) and I thought she was so funny and sarcastic, on the ball all the time. I think the most sarcastic character I've ever read is Caymen from The Distance Between Us, but Sophie was a close second. I wish she could have been a little stronger after Ben was mean to her instead of forgiving him right away, it kind of frustrated me A LOT.
I loved Sophie, Amanda, Jake and Aidan a ton and the cliffhanger is unbearable, so I will be reading the sequel soon. I don't think many people have read this book, but I really recommend it for anyone!
This book really had me guessing right up until the end. I thought I had it figured out and then, a sudden twist. I absolutely loved this book. The author did a great job of telling the story without giving too much away and of sucking me right on in. Just wonderful.
I really enjoyed this book. It has just the right amount of intrigue, romance and fantasy. I liked this fresh and modern take on fantasy and the paranormal. I can't wait to continue the ride in the next book.
Love story, mystery, coming of age, friendship, family, community, fairies, dragons, Texas...what more could you possibly want in a great vacation read?
I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. I couldn't put my Kindle down until I finished it. Starting the next book now. Brenda Harper is the best!
