How to Knit a Tangled Mess

Rate this book
Sadie, Fen, and April are back in the second installment of the DIY Dating series.

No thanks to her best friend Sadie Dawson, April Schultz gets roped into a Knit-a-Thon to impress Owen Godfrey, the guy she's been crushing on for months. Sadie had to open her big mouth and tell him April's an absolute knitting pro and now she's been pledged to knit more items for charity than anyone else. Trouble is, April has never knitted a day in her life. And she's got less than 24 hours to learn. If she doesn't master the basics soon, she risks losing Owen to the girl he's sponsoring, Dana Van Stanten--and she already knows how to knit.

How to Knit A Tangled Mess is a breezy chick lit novelette which should appeal to romantic comedy fans.

How to Knit a Tangled Mess – book two in the DIY Dating series

I loved HOW TO COOK UP A DISASTER, about Sadie’s one-thing-after-another attempt to salvage her great-grandfather’s birthday while her mum is at the hospital having another baby, and I loved this follow-up just as much. Sadie’s two best friends, April and Fen, featured in HTCUAD and HTKATM follows April, who’s desperate to learn to knit overnight, having been forced to enter a charity knit-a-thon (a royal stitch up, if you will… sorry!).

The girls’ personalities shine through once more – reading it felt like revisiting friends. The premise is original and sets up another
rollercoaster of disasters spanning everything from embarrassment and awkwardness to another trip to the hospital. I admit, at first I
wasn’t sure how there could be any stakes or tension in this story (just admit you can’t knit, nothing terrible will happen!) but I was
wrong – it all works, it’s completely plausible and natural, and the author nails it. The ending was perfect and I didn’t see it coming. Above all, this book is just as funny as the first. I mean *really* funny.

In short, if you enjoyed HTCUAD, you will enjoy this, and if you haven’t read the first book, then buy them both. I’m excited for book three which is bound to centre on Fen!

(Note: although I have the same surname as the author, this is coincidence; we are not related.)

Sadie Dawson only wants to help her friend April get the guy she's crushing on. Sadie thought that claiming April was a speedy knitter would help. Little did Sadie know that her idea of help was going to backfire on her friend April. April doesn't have a clue how to knit much less be able to complete nine projects. Will April admit she has no clue? Can Sadie help April? Will April impress her crush? Your answers await you in How to Knit a Tangled Mess.

An intriguing read from first page to last page. I thought the characters were adorable and funny. This is my first experience with this author. I have to admit that I'll read more of this author's work in the future.

It was great to catch up with Sadie and her friends again, this time focusing on April's misadventures in getting her crush Owen to notice her. This is a fun and lighthearted book, perfect for waiting at the doctor's office or grocery checkout line.

I received a copy via LibraryThing member giveaway in exchange for my honest review.

A quick easy read. A bit silly but I'm a knitter so I found the references funny.

** Thanks to librarything for an e-copy of this book in return for an honest review.

If you have knit, love it or hate it, you'll enjoy this short story. It's a warm, fuzzy yarn.
