The end of the Poughkeepsie series, brings us back to the beginning. Debra Anastasia gives fans of the series the opportunity to walk to halls with Blake, Beckett and Cole as teenagers. These three foster brothers form an unbreakable bond that will carry them through the horrors of adolescence, and adulthood.
As a senior in high school Beckett is not the best student, but he is determined to take care of his foster brothers and sisters. He will succeed, no matter what the cost. Beckett has always come off as a little rough around the edges, but his devotion to his brothers is beautiful. In Poughkeepsie Begins, the reader is given a glimpse into the past, to see the beginning, the events and circumstances of the story that is to become.

While the idea of getting to visit these men I grew to love, as teenagers seemed intriguing, for me personally, I was a bit underwhelmed. I struggled a bit to connect, maybe my expectations were too high. I believe most fans of the series will enjoy this installment, if you want something extra from the boys, go for it.

♦ Special Note ♦ This book was released after the third book and that's the order in which I read and reviewed them.
I have to admit that I had some trepidation about starting this book. I mean we've been through a lot with these brothers and we left them all in a happy place. I just wasn't too excited about reading what happened to them in foster care.
But...don't let that stop you because while, yes, there are some harsh things that happen, the brothers are so strong together already that that is the main focus. Plus it was quite endearing to see what they did for others especially Wintery and Summer...those little girls were so cute! (I wanna know what happened to them!)
However, I was just a little disappointed that this was really a Beckett book and the focus wasn't split equally among the three. (I really wanted more Blake!)
On the other hand, OMG, I loved seeing this side of Beckett! Him and Candy were just so sweet...and HOT...together. I just couldn't turn the pages fast enough! (I wanna know what happened to her too!)
Although admittedly, I felt a little guilty liking Candy so much when I really love Eve but I think Beckett needed someone to want him as much as Candy did and especially for him to feel worthy of Eve later.
So basically, it is a story of the brothers when they are in their last year of high school. We get to find out some of their past tragedies and how they have each other's backs. What becomes of them and how Beckett ended up being a drug lord (and we get a blast from the past!), how Cole got into religion and how Blake ended up in the woods...and the infamous train station (Although I would've loved his POV from when he first saw Livia!). And how they came up with their tattoos! We get to see their true sides and how they take care of the people they can. And...we get to read a sweet but potent love story, all Beckett-style and who wants to miss that?

This story made me aww, swoon, cringe, cry and fall in love. I adore a tale about friendship/brotherhood even more than a romance (this has both). I also can't get enough when the characters are survivors of hell yet still possess good hearts. Poughkeepsie Begins has everything I want and need in a book.
Blake, Beckett and Cole come from terrible backgrounds. Many heartbreaking details are given. In a world trying to swallow them up, they find a safe harbor in each other.
Beckett is also at a crossroads in his life. He can try to hang his everything on the chance of first love, or he can follow a dark path into a world of big payouts and big consequences.
I highly recommend this read. The plot felt authentic, no eye rolling moments. I experienced the strength and pain soul deep. I also gave several smiles to Beckett's charm. It pulled all my heartstrings and left me wanting more. The storyline is beautiful, ugly, sad and uplifting all in one go.

The 'Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series' has a special place in my heart. It's a beautiful story about unconditional love and the sacrifices we are willing to make for our family. If you haven't met Blake, Cole and Beckett I suggest you one-click the series NOW! You are missing a lot!
If you already read the series, then you just can't miss this. Debra never disappoints. Her writing is poetic and you really feel part of the story. You connect with them immediately. Believe me you won't put this baby down until you finish it.
Get ready! Buy some kleenex, ice cream and your favorite drink. The roller coaster of emotions won't be easy. Meeting Blake, Cole and Beckett when they were teenagers will make you love them more and at the same time your heart will break for them. You will cry and laugh. But the most important thing is you will experience how they've got each other's back from the very beginning!

Every story has a beginning and so Debra Anastasia takes her readers where it all began. The beginning of the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series where the lives of Beckett, Blake and Cole are intertwined with one another in more ways than one. In this prequel novella, Poughkeepsie Begins, Ms. Anastasia takes us back to the time where Beckett, Blake and Cole are teenagers and in doing so, readers like myself can witness and understand that their strong friendship and brotherhood. Their ties and bond to one another was stronger than blood. I loved that author was able to showcase that these young men endured so much in their youth in which shaped them to the men that they are today. Ms. Anastasia gave readers an in-depth perspective of what these young man had endured and experienced in the foster care system. Readers were able to witness the different personalities of these young men especially Beckett's since we were able to see more of his selflessness and caring nature. So if you are looking for a series that highlights and showcases loyalty, brotherhood, unconditional love, sacrifices and redemption then I highly recommend you to read the Poughkeepsie Series. Trust me when I say that Beckett, Blake and Cole will find a way to steal your hearts.

4.5 "Brothers to the End" Stars! Lovers of bad boy, heroes from the wrong side of the tracks, will not want to miss the Poughkeepsie Begins prequel to the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series. Whether you are looking for the answers to all your questions as to how these characters first began their connection, or you are looking for the background to the series to gauge your interest in reading this series, Poughkeepsie Begins is sure to fit your need.
Although chronologically the first, Poughkeepsie Begins is actually the last book written in this series. As this was my first Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series book, I likely have a totally different perspective than most, but I completely loved the set-up for what I am now sure is a series I must read. I am a complete sucker for underdog romances. Add in a tough, macho alpha hero, and I'm a total goner. As if that weren't good enough this series sports three heroes all hell bent on protecting others who need their protection, even if their chosen means for achieving these results are certainly completely unconventional.
Their (Beckett's, Blake's and Cole's) story begins in a foster home. While fortunate to have a home at all, the humanity of that home was certainly to be questioned. Beckett, Blake and Cole, however, did their best to shield others from this cruelty and, as part of that process, built a bond with each other stronger than blood.
Even while in high school, Becket moonlighted in the crime underworld in an effort to build a kingdom to protect his brothers, and the others they had taken under their wing, with the only gift nature bestowed him--his hands.
His conviction to the protection of his brothers and others, however, doesn't go unchallenged when a new good girl, Candy Cox moves to town and takes an interest in him. Beckett knows he isn't worthy of her, and moreover knows she would never stand by his side if she knew who he truly was, and yet he can't help but dream of what happiness with her could be like. A happiness he never thought he would even have a chance of achieving. In the end, however, he will need to decide on a choice that may potentially end his chances for happiness forever, but ensure the survival of his brothers and the others he protects.

Wow.
This way so amazingly fantastic.
I haven't read a book I have wanted to put on my all-time-favorite shelf for a while, but this was so great that I don't even need to think about it.
It's funny that I loved this book so much more than the first book in Poughkeepsie series or the second one.
It had just enough of suspense, romance, heartache and happiness. It was very balanced and nothing was too much. Although, there was everything that makes an epic book, I have to admit that for me it was the brothers that made this book so lovable and unforgettable. Three brothers not bound by blood but something much stronger - love, pain and will to survive. Their relationships were so heartwarming ❤ They always had each others back no matter what and the promises they made to each other to never be alone were heartbreaking. All three of them were amazing and I liked them all better in this book than in the other books in this series.
Beckett had a bigger role in this book and I couldn't help but love him for caring so much about his brother and sacrificing his happiness so their future is better. After reading Poughkeepsie Blake was my favorite brother but after reading this Beckett and Blake are both my favorite haha... impossible to choose. I didn't like Cole in the first book but now that I got an insight of his past and more of his thoughts I finally love him too <3
Love this book and I definitely love this series! Thank Kirsten for asking me to give Poughkeepsie a try, I can't imagine not knowing and loving these brothers!

It’s no secret that I am a HUGE fan of this author’s other series, so when the opportunity came up to review this one I jumped. I was a tad hesitant only because I know they are so different, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Here are my reoccurring thoughts while reading:
1. Zyler, Tyler, Mylar… Whatever your name is. I hate you
2. Candy, you are a bad ass and I love it
3. Beckett, how does every girl not fall in love with you?!
Beckett has to be one of my favorite “bad boy” characters ever. I don’t want to go too much into it, but he does what he has to, to make sure his family is taken care of. Also, the scene with the cookies made me fall for him that much harder.
From the very beginning I was sucked into the book. I have NOT read the other books in this series, so I assumed I would be at a disadvantage over other readers… WRONG. This is a standalone novel where three foster brothers are facing horrific odds. We get a glimpse at each of them as we watch them fight their demons, and society every day. Even through all of this, they are still closer that most blood relatives and have each other’s back “till the caskets are dropped”.
The story and characters are flawless in such a way you would think that the story was real. They are broken, damaged, bruised and loyal to each other to a fault. I was impressed by the way the story was able to flow through the characters so smoothly and give us a glimpse of life in Poughkeepsie.
To anyone who is considering reading this book… Take the chance you may just find out that it was worth it. ~ Devlynn, 5 stars

4.5 Romantic and Emotional Stars
I am a huge fan of Poughkeepsie and absolutely adored seeing the boys as young men in high school. They each suffered savage mental and physical abuse at the hands of their foster families. Their protectiveness shone through especially with the younger foster children, and with each other. They were forced to protect each other and have each other's backs at all times.
"Never Alone."
But this story is not all about fighting and surviving. There's a gorgeous and sweet and verrrrrry sexy romance between bad-boy Beckett and sweet Candy from the good side of town. They truly love each other and their time together provides some sweet comic relief. If you loved Poughkeepsie, you will love this book. I felt bonded toward the brothers and was heartbroken over their mistreatment. Beckett is really a good kid who never had a break in life and really never had much of a choice to turn out the way he did I wish he would have had more time with sweet Candy Cox, their scenes together were perfect, filled with yearning, sweetness, sexiness and lust. And romance, This book is a standalone but it will only whet your appetite for Poughkeepsie, which is one of my all-time favorite books.

Once upon a time, I fell in love with a man that lived in the shadows and counted the smiles of the girl he adored from afar. And thus began my journey to a small town in Upstate New York and into the lives of three brothers, bound not of blood, but by destiny. Poughkeepsie Begins brought me full circle, as Debra Anastasia beautifully recounts the heartbreaking events, trials and tribulations that forged the everlasting bonds between three memorable characters.
Seeing into the horrors they endured during their teenage foster care years, and the flashbacks into the wretchedness of their early childhood, Blake, Beckett and Cole’s stories made my heart bleed with sadness. The abuse, as difficult as it was to witness, allowed me to truly understand their mindset as well as set the stage for the men they were forced to become. The common factor between was the brutality suffered at the hands of the monsters that confined them. However, the experiences set them down separate paths, taking on particular roles, while vowing to remain a constant in each others lives.
Cole, the quietest of the three, underwent the most physical and mental abuse. Somber emotions overwhelmed me when seeing his breaking point – the pivotal moment that brought him to his knees while turning to his faith in order cope with the depravity that engulfed his life. It was devastating, yet hopeful knowing his faith brought him peace.
Cole is the dark horse in this series. On the surface he is soft spoken, understanding, pious and gentle. But buried beneath, lays a boy so lethal, it rivals the likes of Beckett’s deadly ways. Polar opposite forces rule his soul and I love the dynamics of his multifaceted persona.
Beckett is one slick son-of-a-bitch with a twisted sense of humor. I freaking love his witty and sarcastic ways. In a blink of an eye, he could bring down any unfortunate bastard who dares to get in his way, with either his cutting tongue or fists. Beck’s loyalty to his brothers is unrivaled. He is cast in the role as protector, and with it comes the responsibility to guard his brother’s well being. Beck’s rise to power within the crime underworld is not driven by selfish greed or lust for power. It’s for the chance to obtain stability for his brothers. Their world is cruel, and by selflessly selling his soul, Beck tries to secure their future. And in doing so, he foregoes his chance at love by letting go of the one girl who was determined to save him. There’s honorable intentions buried beneath his immoral demeanor, and his self-sacrifice earned my respect.
My favorite hero within this series is definitely Blake. Don’t get me wrong, I have great love for all, but there is something special about the gentle aurora that surrounds Blake’s persona that touches me deeply. The boy, so shattered and riddled with fears, captured my heart from the very beginning. His dedication, compassion and calmness he unfailingly gives his brothers reminded me of all the reasons why I adored this sexy green-eyed hunk. The symphonic beauty radiating from his character’s soul pulled on my heartstrings and I will miss him greatly.
In Poughkeepsie Begins, Debra Anastasia brings to life some of the most outrageous, yet lovable characters. Her unique writing style harmonizes angst, heartache and dark humor with a touch of romance. The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood is one of my all time favorite series and although this novel is considered a standalone, I highly recommend reading all installments to fully appreciate her heroes’ experiences. Bravo, Debra, and thank you for bringing me back to the beginning.

This story takes us back to where it all began, with three brothers - Beckett, Cole and Blake. It adds another layer to the story of the brotherhood between these three men.
They are all living in the same foster home with that awful caregiver Rick, though he really has no care for them or the other children living in the house, all that matters to Rick is his weekly pay check.
They are safer there than they were in the homes they were moved from. Together they take hits to make sure that the rest of the children there are safe. Beckett is determined to give them some good childhood memories. Seriously, there are so many sweet moments between the brothers and the sweet girls who live there that will melt your heart. So. Damn. Cute.
Poughkeepsie East High School is the school the brothers attend and Beckett in high school is hilarious, he has so much street smart and is wise beyond his years. It is also place where he falls in love for the first time and it is so damn sweet, but heartbreaking too.
This final year of high is the turning point for Beckett. He kind of tries to toe the line at school but once he sets his sights on Candy, things change for him. He wants her, like in the forever kind of way but he also knows that he should just set her free, she is too sweet for him.
Beckett doesn't want to lose focus on what is important to him - his brothers. He is determined to make sure that from here on out their lives are kept safe and they will want for nothing. This is how he becomes the man we meet in Poughkeepsie. This is the making of him.
This was a wonderful journey back to start of this fantastic series and I loved being back in the neighbourhood with them.

I am used to the zaniness of Debra Anastasia with Late Night with Andres and Fire Down Below. This is an author that can take humor to a level where you are cringing.
Poughkeepsie Begins is the polar opposite. The raw emotion of the story just stunned me stupid at the completion.

I'm a newbie to the Poughkeepsie world. I don't know why I haven't read this series before now, but I'm so glad I started with Poughkeepsie Begins. I'm not sure what it was I was expecting, but this emotional and intense story wasn't it. I really believe my reading experience was enhanced by the fact I did not re-read the blurb of the book before I started it or read the blurbs of the other books in the series. My introduction to the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood was fast and furious and left me a fan.
Beckett, Cole, and Blake are three young men who have formed a bond through pain, understanding, and heartbreak. They're living in a foster home together and with others. They're trying to deal with school and life at the same time. They are not having an easy time anywhere. Instead they've got to rely on each other and themselves to rise to the occasions they find themselves in. I absolutely loved the relationship these guys had with each other. It didn't matter what dilemma they were facing, none of them had to face it alone. They really and truly loved each other and always had each other's backs. They kind of reminded me of the Three Musketeers and their slogan, "All for one, and one for all."
I also loved how the book was mainly focused on Candy and Beckett and told from their points of view, but also had parts narrated by Cole and Blake. It really allowed me to get to know the guys and their mindsets and help me figure out what their issues were. It also made me respect them for handling things at home and at school. I really wanted Candy and Beckett to get together. Those two had an amazing chemistry. I loved how Candy was strong. She might seem like a beautiful princess on the outside, but she had a strong sense of right and wrong and a level head on her shoulders. I loved how she wasn't quick to judge, but was intelligent and observed what was going on around her. I also admired her for paying attention to her instincts and feelings when everyone else was telling her differently.
Poughkeepsie Begins is fast paced and gripping. I couldn't put it down and I found myself on edge again and again. There were some really rough moments in this book. I wanted to reach into the pages and take justice into my own hands while wrapping the boys in a cocoon of safety. I also wanted to smack Beckett at times for his attitude and the way he handled certain things. Overall, this book really blew me away. Not only is this the first Poughkeepsie Brotherhood book I've read, but it's also the first Debra Anastasia book I've read as well. I can't believe what I've been missing out on. I'm really eager now to read the other books in the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series and find out what happens to Beckett, Blake, and Cole in the future.

One of my favorite books of all time is Poughkeepsie and if I had to pick a favorite character, it would be Blake. I love his simpleness and his broken thoughts. My recommendation is to read Poughkeepsie first and then read this prequel. Blake continued to win me over with his daily inner struggles and how he fights victoriously to win. I’m a huge music lover so it may be this common factor that binds me to Blake.
He knew that to the rest of the world it looked like he was standing in silence. But he wasn’t. They just couldn’t hear the music he could hear.
Blake, Cole and Beckett are growing up together in a foster home…a foster home that provides four walls for shelter and that’s about it. What the boys lack in affection from any adult they gain from one another. They have a very strong bond at a young age that will carry with them throughout all their struggles into adulthood.
What surprised me was Cole and the damage that was done to him as a child. Cole has found a way to help him cope with these internal nightmares through self harm. If there was any indication to this in the former stories, I don’t remember it. (Truth be told, I remember everything of Blake though!)
The red of the blood gave him peace.
Beckett has always been a little bit of a contradiction. He goes from bad ass to a softie wanting to braid hair for his foster sisters within a blink of an eye. He would stop at nothing to ensure his foster sisters don’t have the same upbringing that he has had. He is a sweetheart to the female population including the new girl that starts school his senior year. For all the books I have read, I don’t think I have ever come across a young man that is so focused and driven on knowing how he is going to beat the odds and come out a winner. He has a plan to keep his brothers safe and he will succeed at any cost. I can barely comprehend what he has put himself through and how he managed it. Beckett’s delivery tactic is untraditional but he has the biggest heart of anybody you will ever meet. .
“Some things, when you start them, you can’t have second thoughts."
This was a quick enjoyable read that let me meet my friends as though I had never met them before. I think it was a beautiful way to close out the Poughkeepsie series, even though technically this is the beginning…

What are you supposed to write about a book that is the prequel, yet the last book about characters that are so near-and-dear to you, so special, you smile whenever you remember them? Is it bittersweet? Yes. Is it amazing? Yes.
I loved the boys all grown up. I loved what they became, after what they had been. Or the glimpse of what they had been, while kids. The three books? Just that, a glimpse. This? This is the book that truly has all the good, bad and ugly details about three teenagers that were broken, each of them, not one of them came out of their childhoods unscathed.
"For a few heartbeats, three teenage boys raged at their childhood. They hollered at fate. They screamed out pure need. It was the sound of Peter Pan fucking dying, the ghost of dreams that would never be."
That has to be one of the most meaningful lines I have ever read in a book. It resonated with me. It made me cry, right along with them. It stayed with me.
I love these boys. I just wanted to pull them into my arms and hug them, keep them there forever, so they could feel that they're amazing and deserve all the best.
But it's not possible, because they're characters. They're not real. But they do feel real. They made me feel everything that can be possibly felt. I smiled, laughed, cried, melted.
"Beckett chuckled. 'Sweetheart, you can pick whatever you want. I'll get Mr. Potato Head if that honks your banana."
I missed Beckett's crazy humor. I missed Blake's special-ness. I missed Cole's thoughtful self.
Writing this review makes it all come back, one week later. For one whole week I couldn't get into anything. I want to raise a glass for all these boys and for Debra, for writing and creating them.
Thank you. Whether there will be more with and about Beckett, Cole and Blake or not, I'll never forget them. They will forever have a special place in my heart.

Oh my goodness... I'm not even sure what to say. This story is compelling and heart wrenching and had my emotions everywhere. It's sad but full of hope at the same time. It was a beautiful introduction to the series.
Beckett, Blake, and Cole, are these complex characters who are deeply wounded from past experiences but find family in one another. Even though hard things are happening it's really uplifting. I had all these questions and just wanted to know why they were how they were because some of their actions are heartbreaking. There is a nice, slow build to the details and I was mesmerized. Each boy has their own hardships but I was rooting for them. Hard lives, hard situations but they're all so sweet deep down, I just wanted to hug them and help them heal. Especially Beckett. So many wrong choices for the right reasons... for love and survival. These boys have my head a mess! Debra Anastasia really makes you feel for this characters... it was intense and emotional.
I enjoyed the teen angst with Candy and Beckett over the development in their relationship. It was challenging, sweet, raw, and real. What Beckett wants for Candy is a really nice thing and I love that even though it was hard, that he made the decision he made.
I have not read any of the other Poughkeepsie stories yet but after reading this I definitely will because I need to know what happened to these men. A really great read!

WOW - This serie grabbed me by the heart and held on tight.
Debra has become not only my favourite author but one of my favourite people with her kind heart, sweet soul, freakishky crude and funny sense of humour and her magical stories.
Amazing characters as usual that jump to life in front of your eyes and connect to you. You don't mis out on anything.
Blakes sensitive, compassionate gentle soul comes through right from the beginning but in this one we see a little bit more of him and that he is't a pushover. He is just as tough and stand tall as Beckett and can hold his own.
Cole won a place with me in this oe. We hear so much about his past and connect deeply with him. He now is my favourite character. I just wanted to hold him close yet was affraid he would explode. He is one tough, crazy dude with a heart of gold.
Beckett ... wow, we knew he was a teddy bear but it was nice to see a young Beckett and his ways in school as well as how he became ho is is today.
I was expecting a little mroe drama but definately was not dissapointed. What a heart warming introduction to a loving yet cruel and brutal world and life for these boys.
This series is over and I am heartbroken about that but I am so grateful for having the chance to read it and connect to it and get to know the author as a result.
I hope it touches you the way it did me - enjoy the boys :)

Beckett, Cole & Blake are back or rather should I say if you haven't read this Series then it' the beginning to how it all began!
I freaking loved this book. It brought me back to when I 1st read this series as a fan fic and I just had my feelings all over the place again.
This book will make you cry, hurt, hot & tingly (Cause Beckett is just soo freaking hot even as a teenager!).
Debra wrote this story & characters from the heart and it shows as it pours on to the pages and into your soul as you read it.
I'm still on an emotional high from reading this book & started to reread this amazing series that I HIGHLY recommend everyone should read!

Book Review: 5+ stars
I can’t even find the words to describe how much I loved this book. I cried all the time, I cried for the boys, Becket, Cole and Blake. I cried for their pasts, for the presents and for their uncertain future. I cried for how much they fight to be together, for how they protected each other, for how much they loved those little girls, Wintery and Summer. I’m crying right now while I’m writing this review.
I have to be honest, this isn’t my kind of read. I avoid angsty books because I get so invested, I feel the pain in my chest and I literally lose it. And from page one, I knew that Poughkeepsi Begins was going to be a hard book for me. There are so many delicate subjects in this book, child abuse, violence and drugs. I was afraid I couldn’t handle it, but I did. And here I am, wanting to read more about those broken boys. Thank God the other books are already published, so I can read them all at once and love these three brothers more and more.
So, this books was about three foster kids, Becket, Cole and Blake. They lived with their foster father, Rick. When I first read how he treated them, I was in shocked, but knowing how their early years were, now I think Rick was the safest person for them to be. They three were in senior year of highschool, and they were hanging in there, waiting to be 18 and finally get out of the system and be on their own. Like I said before, they take care of each other, and no matter how messed up the situation was, they always stuck together.
Candy was new at school. Her family moved constantly because of her father’s job and she was used to it. She lived her teenage years thinking “ Don’t get too close to people, so I won’t miss them when I’m gone ”. She was a good kid, got good grades and stayed out of trouble. Until she met Becket. She was drawn to him. His dangerous looks and bad boy reputation attracted her so much to him. But of course, things wasn’t going to be easy for Candy and Becket. Zyler, the most popular boy at school put his eyes on Candy and wanted her at all cost, and despite her telling him just to be friends, he took no for an answer. But Candy had already made her decision, she wanted to be with Becket, no matter what.
I FLOVED this book. From the heartbreaking story, to the amazing characters. Debra’s writing style was beautiful. She managed to write violent abusive scenes without being explicit or gross me out. For many people this book was the end of the series, for me, it was the beginning. Can’t wait for the other books. If anyone knows how to add more hours to the day so I can read more, please let me know.
BTW, Debra added some funny things to this book, which was very refreshing for my subbing state of mind. Thank you Debra!

Let me start by saying that Debra Anastasia became one of my favorite authors when I read her hilarious book Fire Down Below. She has a wonderful sense of humor that knows no bounds.
Poughkeepsie Begins is a completely different genre that completely blew me away. I was so shocked such a heart-wrenching, emotionally intense story came from her. This is proof that she is an amazing multifaceted author.
Beckett, Blake and Cole are 3 “brothers”, brought together through horrific circumstance. This book is the beginning of their stories. I was taken on a journey that lead me through the pain and suffering that this boys went through. They become family with a bond that is unbreakable.
Beckett is the ring leader and the book tells the tale of his whirlwind romance with Candy Cox ( I know, nice name!) They have such chemistry that can lead to a potentially devastating heartbreak. Candy is the first person to fight for Beckett and push him to be a good man.
This book will stay with me forever. I have already jumped into Poughkeepsie book 1 because I have to know what happens to these brave boys.
If you are looking for a story that give you the feels. This is it. I advise you all to one-click ASAP.

4 strong, faithful stars for Poughkeepsie Begins
Once again, I am reading this series in chronological order rather than publication order. (Always the rebel, I know.) Therefore, this is the first book that I have read in the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood.
"Brothers?" he asked.
"Brothers," Blake responded, smiling.
"Forever," Cole added solemnly.
Three hopeless foster kids trying to survive the shitty hand that they have been dealt in Poughkeepsie. Each one has their own demons and a different background that put them in the same foster home. A home where they are nothing more than a punching bag and a pay check. Together - Beckett, Blake, and Cole - can face anything.
"Never alone."
I jumped into this series because of the gorgeous covers and the angst that I knew would follow them. So, you could say that I did go into this series blindly. I wondered if I would actually enjoy it, but...
it delivered.
Beckett Taylor is definitely the leader of the pack. His charm and instinctual nature balanced out the other two quiet, standoffish brothers. Although reckless, he is extremely protective and sacrificial. He put his well-being on the line multiple times to provide for the brothers and two little girls, Summer and Wintery. He also made the ultimate sacrifice - love.
Blake Hartt is a mysterious character. He tries to fade into the background, but there is an "air" about him that makes you aware of his presence. His obsession with the woods and the sun is intriguing. There is something psychological going on with his character that I cannot wait to delve into in his book. That little cardboard piano was the most heart wrenching thing I've ever seen. I can't wait to see him actually play in the future.
The quote that warns others about the "quiet ones?" Yeah, that is Cole Bridge. He is scary. That moment between him and Rick in the woodshed gave me chills. His traumatic childhood left him deep emotional scars. One would almost think that he is a lost cause until you see him with Wintery and Summer. All three of the brothers adored these girls, but Cole has the cutest relationship with them. I loved when Candy showed him how to braid their hair. *melts*
Candy Cox's character made me nostalgic AF. She reminded me so much of myself in high school. Granted, she was more outspoken than I was. She is too nice - almost a people pleaser. She cannot say no to anyone and, similar to Beckett, she puts others before herself. Her family comes first. However, she can't help falling for the boy that her parents would disapprove of.
Overall, this was a nice introduction to the series. I cannot wait to jump into the next book. :)

Does Debra Anastasia know her readers or what? As soon as I finished Poughkeespie Begins, I wanted to crawl back into the lives of Beckett, Blake and Cole and dive in to a re-read of the Brotherhood series. These boys, who later become outstanding men, kinda own me. I love every bad thing about them (errr, Beckett) and their incredible resilience. The story line is mesmerizing and wholly addictive. But this review is about Poughkeepsie Begins, a treat release if there ever was one.
We come to know and love these men throughout the three book series, but Poughkeespie Begins is a wonderful snapshot to the time when their connection was forged, when they created their "...all three of us or none" creed and the blueprint that is their family. Although there are many secondary characters that create strife and take the boys to task, there are a few characters that standout in this book for good reasons. With the introduction of Candy Cox and their foster sisters, Summer and Wintery, the genuine and altruistic nature at the core of each of these young men is highlighted. This is certainly one of the leading factors that led me to love these boys so much. The story is woven around the months leading up to the boys gaining their freedom from the foster family (and the monster foster father) that brought them together.
We see Cole, probably the most damaged of them, take on and bring to heel one adversary, only to be subjected to a massive set-back when he is close to aging out of the foster system. With Blake, we see his early struggles with his condition, how he develops his love for music and seals his fate. Blake has a sweet and sentimental nature that drives the love he feels for his brothers - he is always, always at their backs and at times is more of a risk taker then one would think. And Beckett...he may be a bad seed and there is no doubt that he does very bad things, but all that melts away when he's focused on his girls. It's fun to see the early glimpse of his biting humor and how a little thing like the "Pink Princess", Candy Cox, gets under his skin. For this alone I wanted to bow down at her feet. She was easy to love, and easy to envy. As the new girl, she tries to keep an open mind and to try keep the peace, but under it all there is one thing that pushes her sensible side away - her feelings for Beckett. Beckett's caustic wit and raw sensuality no doubt being part of his allure.
I finished the three book series a year ago and it remains one of my favorites. The strife, their camaraderie and compassion, the adversity the overcome, is enough to break your heart, while bolstering your love for the underdog's that they are. This story stole my breath and a few hours of sleep too. Debra Anastasia is one of the rare writers that can make a small group of teenage hoodlums and misfits literary hero's. Poughkeepsie Begins is MUST read is a 5 ++ Star read.

It ends with the beginning – Never Alone!!!
Along time ago a friend of mine told me to read Poughkeepsie -- so I did what we all do -- I added it to my TBR and walked away. But you see, this friend she was quite persistent, y’all know how our book friends can be when they love a book .. lol (I’m never like that ☺). Anyway, I don’t think I was but a couple chapters in and I fell madly and deeply in love with Blake, Cole and Beckett! I couldn’t wait to dive into book two and then three and well here we are now with the final book and my love hasn’t waivered even a little bit!
This was an amazing end to a truly beautiful series! These characters just crawl right into your heart and take up residence! I was so very happy to be able to reconnect with these boys. They are all heroes to me -- Beckett with his sexy ass nobleness, Cole the ever silent and honorable and Blake the beautiful broken loyal.
When you read the other books you know the brothers are tight, they would literally die for each other, the relationship they have is amazing, but to be able to go back to where it all began and to see the bond created – it was just such an emotional ride and I loved every single minute of it.
“No. There’s not a time on this fucking planet, where we don’t do this together. Brothers. It keeps me here.” Beckett pointed to his heart. “Instead of here.” He pointed to his head. “Do you understand that?” …….. Beckett looked from one to the other. “If not for you, my soul would be gone by now.”
There were so many times I wished I could just leap into my ipad and grab all three guys and huddle in for a group hug! I loved loved loved this ending! Thank you, Debra Anastasia, for bringing us this story, your characters will forever have a place in my heart.

Ms. Anastasia goes back to the beginning to understand the end. The beginning was always alluded to. We got to see snippets throughout the series but to see it play out is heartbreaking. To understand what makes Beckett tick, to see the love he has for his brothers, the crappy hand he was dealt, and the protection he's provided over the years makes me love Beckett all the more.
If you've read the series you know what happens, you know the battles but I loved the journey getting there. Poughkeepsie Begins is the perfect tie in for this series. It's such an emotional ride, my heart breaks for Cole and his anger, Blake and his panic attacks, Beckett and his need to protect what's his.
It's an emotional ending (at the beginning), knowing that this is it. The series is over, the boys are finished. I always get so jealous of those people who haven't met fantastic characters yet. They get to experience it for the first time. This is definitely one of those books I would love to forget so I could experience Poughkeepsie all over again.
