Not a second after I finished this book I was emailing the author looking into the next one, and the same second it was in my hands I was invested! The story so far has been truly amazing and I’ve loved every second of it. As a sequel Revived has more action, more emotion, more mystery and intrigue; more awesomeness basically.

What has really made these books stand out is how much emotion they evoke from me as a reader, and I love how it comes from a combination of both characters and plot together. Everything is so intricately woven that I have to commend Sarah Noffke on her skills as a writer.

Each character has their place and with it their own unique personality. They all have such interesting journeys; a story could have been written about any one of their lives! Of course, the main protagonist is Roya and I can think of no-one better. She has grown to accept her role in society as well as among her friends (if a bit begrudgingly, for which I can’t blame her) and it brought out a whole new side of her. Thankfully her sharp and sarcastic wit has gone nowhere which is something you can look forward to.

Relationships develop a lot in this novel, particularly between George and Roya. I won’t go into the whys and wheres because of spoilers but I will say that I’m leaning more towards team George than Aiden… It could very well change obviously but that will only happen if Aiden steps his game up a notch. I certainly look forward to seeing him try!

In the end, to put it simply, I loved this book. And I think fans of the first among many YA readers will to. So if you take nothing else from this review except the fact you need to pick this series up, my work is done.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I just finished this book after midnight here, and I wanted to write my review right away while it was all still fresh on my mind. Anyone who might have been concerned that this series would fall into second book slump can completely set their minds to rest. This book upped the game on so many levels, that I actually believe it was better than the first in some ways.

Once again, Roya is called upon to put her life in jeopardy in order to go on a crazy-scary-dangerous mission. This time, though, the mission hits a lot closer to home for her and has become a lot more personal, as it involves someone she cares a great deal about. Again, I found myself completely loving the training sessions that the small group of friends must go through to prepare for their mission. It was like Harry Potter without the wands. I love seeing the elements they learn about, the skills they must master, and the way that Roya must step up this time as a true leader of her group.

Yes, folks, there is a love triangle in this story, and guess what? I love it! I care about both of these guys, and I'm just as torn as Roya is. It's hard to pick between two guys as great as these two. I can't even say I'm pulling for any particular one at this point because I love them both so much! These scenes between Roya and each of them are intense and sweet.

Then there's the mission. Part of what makes the action in this book so interesting is the complete oneness of purpose of all members of the team. I love watching them work together, building a special bond as they move toward a common goal. And this mission throws some surprises out there that I wasn't expecting at all, some new complications that I know are going to cause some major havoc in the next book.

Roya continues to be my favorite character. I've never seen a character struggle so much to keep her emotions in check, to keep herself from being vulnerable. Yet, in this story, I feel like there was some growth there. It makes her so lovable, and makes the reader care about her all the more. She's selfless, strong, and crazy good at what she does. The author did an amazing job conveying such a complex character.

I flew through this book today as it was so fast-paced, so exciting, and had me on the edge of my seat more often than not. And what a cliffhanger!! OMG! I was so not expecting the revelation at the end of this book! What a kicker. I want the next book like NOW!! Great book!

WHOA! This book's title can BEST describe my reaction to the ending.... STUNNED!

I am very grateful to the author, Ms. Sarah Noffke, for the opportunity to read her books from the blog tour to this one. ^___^ Thank you so much for the copy. I am lucky I guess, not all get to find a series to love, but I promise this series have now my heart.

Before starting this book, I have braced myself for enlightenment, more truths and stuff to learn about the Institute and especially about the characters. I guess I did not brace myself much because that ending still had me reeling!

The beginning may be slow, but as it progressed, it becomes captivating. When everyone have found projects where they fit to work in the Institute, I thought I'd say BYE and not expect to see more of the teams friendship and teamwork. Everyone have gotten busy, and they seldom see each other. But when the Head Scientist, Aiden was abducted by the Voyageurs the same team was organized to save him. Then there went the action. These parts in this series, I must say, are the ones that I liked best. The teams' effort, how they work with each other towards operations' success making me like the characters more. :)

Roya isn't whiny anymore. She rather grew up fast and became the leader that she's expected to lead a team. Joseph is STILL my favorite character minus the two-timing :3 that was an off. And Trent oh Trent. Hahaha! I can't believe he's gay (oh am i allowed to say that?) So funny! He gave the read a lighter feel when Joseph is not around to give the reader that. And about the love triangle....

I'm so sorry but I am team George all the way. :D I just wish Aiden and Roya the best. Their push and pull was both heart fluttering and annoying (not bad annoying). I was just, come on! JUST BE TOGETHER ALREADY! Haha!

All in all, this one's as good as the first book, a very CAPTIVATING READ and good sequel to the series! ^____^

This book was written just as perfectly, and Roya's voice is just as beautiful. However I found myself a little more conflicted in my overall thoughts of the book...
as the plot just...
fell a bit...
flat.
While the idea behind it was great, and the execution was also well done, I found it a little lacking in the action. I guess this was similar to the first book, with a big (and brilliantly written) build up, and a very small short "duel", as such. Then there was a lot of romance-life concentrated talk afterwards, some of which was important, and some of which was annoying. What I thought about the love triangle in Awoken unfortunately did not apply to Stunned . It was still incredibly well written (which kinda made it better, but also made me more annoyed because it meant I couldn't actually be mad...) but a lot of it seemed very back and forth:
I love him -
Oh no he's horrible I hate him -
Oh he says sorry I love him -
I'm being used I hate him -
But he's irresistible I love him

I just couldn't believe she kept getting back with Aiden...
I would have liked more information on her dreams as well. I feel like Chase must have invaded more, or she must have felt something, or SOMETHING! to do with him, not he faded out a little after she started "hating" him.
And then finally the ending. As with the first book, IT WAS AMAZING! Noffke is super duper super good at writing endings that ensure you want to read the next book! I can't wait to find out what happens!

This is the 2nd book in the Lucidites series, and again, a good one. However, I have to admit I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first volume. The first volume was mostly action and sci fi with a hint of romance, whereas in this one the romance takes more of a center stage with a complicated love triangle and more relationship issues than previously. This one is a slightly more typical YA. I think this series is probably a case of men enjoying the first volume most and women would probably like this volume better. However, both male and female readers should still enjoy this volume. It's not all romance, just has more than the first volume.

That being said, it's still engrossing and well-written. It still has action and intrigue and is a very good read, and I am planning on reading the third volume to see how everything ends up. Another great effort from Sarah Noffke!

*****The author provided a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.*****

Close to a 4.5, so I rounded up. Stunned was very much like a roller coaster. The first couple of chapters went really slow … not in a bad way because it was clear that Noffke was leading up to something. Then all of a sudden something happened, and the wild ride began. There were a couple of dips where the action calmed down (just long enough for you to catch your breath), and then the action picked right back up.

Plot:
At the end of Awoken, Roya was ready to leave the institute, but Joseph begged her to stay. The beginning of Stunned gives us a very disappointed Roya. Despite his request, Joseph is constantly disappearing. Also, despite professing his affection, Aiden is pretty much ignoring Roya, and he’s even paying attention to a new girl named Amber. To make matters worse, all of her friends have assignments, so she’s kind of left on her own. When Roya finally decides she’s leaving to go live with Bob and Steve, someone very important to the institute is kidnapped, and Roya is placed in charge of the person’s safe return. In order to do that, she has to face a threat that is potentially more dangerous than Zhuang could ever be.

Characters:
Roya is less of an outcast and more of a team player this go round. She’s still very reactive and pushes people away in an attempt to keep herself from being hurt. In Stunned, we see a vulnerability in her that wasn’t there before. She’s also more caring, particularly with Joseph, but also with Aiden and George and several of her teammates.

Stunned features many of the supporting characters from Awoken, and we get to know a little more about each of them (in one case, a LOT more). It also features a few villains, one of whom Roya is not quite sure how to deal with.

Writing:
Like Awoken, Stunned was very well edited, and Noffke did a great job of providing the visual imagery readers need to really grasp the action that is going on. Once again, she builds suspense by detailing everything that leads up to the confrontation, including Roya’s fears and insecurities, her premonitions, and her concern over Joseph’s rapidly deteriorating condition. If you’re not a fan of love triangles, you will hate the situation with Roya, Aiden and George. (I started to get very irritated, but that’s because I like Aiden so much.) If I had to give the book a movie rating, I’d probably make it a PG-13. There is a little more language than the last one (including a couple of F-bombs) and some violence, but nothing too graphic.

The Bottom Line:
If you liked Awoken, you’ll probably love Stunned. As I mentioned before, the first few chapters were kind of slow, mainly because we had to see the different things that led to Roya’s frustration and her decision to leave the institute. Once the abduction happened, I didn’t want to put the book down; in fact, throughout the rest of the book, I felt like I was going to have a panic attack. There is a huge revelation at the end of the book which, combined with some lingering threats, make it just about impossible not to want to read Revived, the final book in the series.

The Lucidites, along with Roya's help, have defeated the big bad Zhuang, now what...Roya desperately wants to return home with Bob and Steve, back to a normal life, but her twin brother Joseph pleaded with her to stay. Joseph is working on a secret project that concerns Roya, and he needs to draw from her energy to complete it, but he doesn't tell her that! Roya is still stuck in a love triangle with George and Aiden, and everyone is working on a project but her! What in Pete's name can happen with all this!
Although the team just came from a huge, yet successful, could-have-been-world-ending mission, everyone is back to business as usual. I mean, they lost their healer, and Joseph almost died! Roya is moping around because she's not getting her way, and avoiding both Aiden and George instead of dealing with things head on. I can appreciate the complicated situation between the two boys because she feels for both of them, but come on! Rip the damn Band-Aid off! I reflect...they are young and naive. While Roya deals with not dealing with the boys, she pushes Joseph to tell her what the project he is working on is, because it seems to be affecting him physically. Once Roya finally gives in to peer-pressure, she accepts a project from Shuman. The project is more of a job, and the job is news reporter. Roya must use her psychic ability to see potential threats, and then report them. Now that Roya is busy, and attention diverted, Aiden goes missing!

You will have plenty to keep you busy trying to figure out what is going on in this book! The rescue mission is not the focal point of the story, nor does it monopolize the book. This incident is created to add another layer onto the story as a whole. I learned more about the Lucidites’ history and key players. Although they do have a new threat, the play also opened doors for Roya that will allow her to not only know how to deal with what is happening, but understand why as well. The struggle Roya is having with George and Aiden is real, and will threaten to tear her apart. And then the ending! She pulled a Star Wars move on me at the very end of the book! All I'm saying is “Luke, I am your father”, OMG! That's it. I didn't spoil anything, right? So yeah, the ending isn't a cliffhanger, but is a huge white elephant in the room moment.

So let’s recap!
Roya may or may not have killed Zhuang in the previous book (verdict is still out).
New bad guy “Chase” in play now.
Whitney is still dead.
Trey is still a lying, manipulative prick!

Book three should be a bang! Totally looking forward to it!!

Narrator Review

Elizabeth Klett continues as the narrator for this epic series The Lucidites. Elizabeth has been a great story teller for Roya Stark. I fell into an easy comfort with her voice, and really felt like she was portraying the characters as real, as if it were her own life being played out. I enjoy her subtle change in tone for the men, and really well interpreted voices for all the females. 5 stars for a job well done Elizabeth!

What happens when the chosen one fulfills her prophesy? Well …
Nothing really. At least this is what it seems to be at first. Roya is counting down the days she is required to physically remain at the institute and these days seem to drag on. With everyone else working on some new project or job, Roya is left to herself, and left out. After being needed by everyone, being needed by no one is hard to adjust to.

Roya doesn’t trust the institute, but the institute houses her
favorite scientist, Aiden, and she does trust him. Is that trust I
wonder, misplaced? Aiden has a new assistant. A super beautiful,
touchy, new assistant. With all of those brains, you would think that Aiden would know when a girl is flirting with him. Soon, not even Aiden’s presence can persuade Roya to stay.

Joseph’s job has him spinning a full 180 physical and personality
shift. He’s keeping secrets from Roya, and endangering his own health. Roya can’t sit around with her head underground (or in the case of the institute, underwater), she is after all, the chosen one, there has to be something that she can do (and there is).
Roya, intent on leaving suddenly finds herself leading a mission that can make, or break her heart.

Stunned is a thrilling continuation to Awakened, with so many heart
pumping oh my gosh, no he didn’t, and yes she did moments, that you do not want to miss out on! I love all of my crazy dreams, and so
exploring the dream world is something that I geek out about! The
lucidite series is among my favorites, add it to your tbr list today!

My Review

A wonderful sequel to Sarah Noffe's Awoken, I truly enjoyed this read! The story picked up where the first in the series left off. The Lucidites were back in control and Zhuang defeated, everyone attempted to go back to normal. Roya felt a little rudderless while her brother and all her friends worked on assignments. She resented being stuck at the Institute and when her relationship with both Aiden and George becomes even more strained and confusing, a unhappy Roya decides to go and live her her guardians Bob and Steve.
But soon an incident occurs at the institute (someone kidnapped) and Roya is heading the investigation which causes her to remain and soon events heat up as she and the others face a threat possibly greater than Zhuang!

Stunned was an incredible thrill ride full of twists and turns that kept me glued to the page! Ms. Noffke's skillful writing draws the reader in quietly as we become re-connected with Roya and the other characters. Then as tension mounts we are privy to Roya's interactions with the group and the skills and abilities of all involve in the search. There's a steady rise of unease and then the bottom drops out and there begins the roller coaster ride that leads to an incredible and shocking ending!!
Stunned is beautifully written and very well-edited, the author uses incredible imagery in her world building that invokes stunning images that make the experience even better!

I fully recommend this series if you enjoy a fast paced Young Adult read full of adventure and suspense!

Ok, please close your eyes if you don't like swearing.

OH MY FUCKING GOD
That couldn't have been the ending. I always suspected something. But that was not it. It sure came as a surprise.

Ok, now you can open your eyes :)

I loved this second installment. And I sincerely still don't know who I want more, Aiden or George!
Well, you could even sign me up for Chase, I'll take that gorgeous psychopathic hunk off Roya's shoulders. She's got enough suitors as is.
I find it a bit funny, in a really morbid kind of way, that it's always the healer that bites the dust. Are we seeing a pattern here? :))
I loved Roya, and at the same time I wanted to throttle her. But I get where she's coming from and can't judge.
My poor little Joseph, my beautiful baby, what have you done?
I just feel that the next book will be the epitome of crazy action.

Thank you so much for this amazing book Ms. Noffke, great characters, great action, great plot.

Stunned is even more fantastic than it's predecessor! As Roya's tale continues, new characters and locations are introduced that are not only unique, but add an intriguing dimension to the wonderful world Mrs. Noffke has created.

In Awoken, the first book in the Lucidites series, the danger was immediate and singular in the form of Zhuang. However, in Stunned, you get the sense that the world contains elusive darkness with enemies lurking around every corner. There are images in this book that will stick with me for a very long time. The author has a talent for painting a scene and evoking emotion.

On the other hand, as I read Stunned, I couldn't help but smile. I love how the author’s sense of humor was beautifully captured throughout the books.

Overall, this was a fantastic read that I'd highly recommend. The introduction of new characters, such as Chase and Allouette, adds a fresh and exciting depth to the world Roya finds herself in

I should just stop reviewing free books of genres I don't like.
This was YA to the extreme, and didn't sit well with me.

The polar ends of supergirl that can fight / clairvoyance / protect the world vs this irritating love triangle.

Basically there wasn't much that enticed me in the book until the last 10 minutes, which is about something totally different to what the whole book was about, and just throws the door wide open, bridging book 1 into book 3.

Stunned picks up after the events of Awoken. Zhuang has been defeated, and the Lucidites are attempting to get things back to how they were. Roya’s friends and her brother, Joseph, have all been given assignments to work on over summer and are settling in at the institute. Roya, however, doesn’t quite know what to do. She has nothing to work on, and left feeling like a spare part

Her feelings for Aiden are complicated and she finds it difficult to accept that anything between the two of them must be kept secret to protect Aiden’s career. Her strained relationship with George isn’t making her situation any easier. This leads to her deciding that she wants to leave and move in with her faux parents, Bob and Steve.

The plot, just like in the first book, was exciting from start to finish. Just when you think you have things figured out, another new twist is thrown into the mix to keep the characters constantly on their toes.

As always, the characters were fantastic. I loved Roya’s strength and her natural wit. I was pleased to see some more interaction between her, Bob, and Steve. It’s great that she has their constant reassurance and support. They are like the calm amongst the raging storm.

I felt sorry for poor Joseph. He gets messed up in something he shouldn’t, and takes it out on the people around him. But seeing Roya’s determination to help him overcome whatever he’s working on is touching and shows the development between the two of them.

I was happy to get to know George a little better this time. In the first book, his relationship with Roya wasn’t appealing to me, but now I understand the connection between the two of them a little better. I’d like to learn more about him away from his relationship with Roya.

With that being said, I still prefer Roya with Aiden. I adore Aiden. He’s geeky, and cute, and can sometimes be a little foolish. And that’s what makes him a great character. I wanted to give him a good talking to myself at certain points in the story because of the poor way he was handling certain situations. But he learns from his mistakes and grows from them. Again, he is a character whose backstory I would love to learn more about.

The secondary characters in this story are just as fantastic. Trent shared a wonderful little moment with Roya towards the end that I really enjoyed, and it left me curious to see how his story unfolds in the last instalment. I also love Ren. I seem to have a particular interest in angry, snarky, pessimistic characters, and he definitely fits that bill.

The Grotte was a creepy addition to this series, and one I highly enjoyed getting to read about. The new characters we meet through the Grotte are disturbing and a dangerous threat. I’m so curious to see what the overall plan is.

I need to mention the end of this book because holy mother of plot twists. I did not see the twist coming, so when it happened, it was glorious. I had one of those ‘oh, snap’ moments, and then wanted to go back through the books to see if I’d missed the clues. It was a fantastic ending that definitely left me desperate to read the fallout.

This series is always full of action and excitement. I’m eager to see what wild adventures the characters will be sent on in the final book, and how they’ll face whatever situations are thrown at them next.

The second book in the Lucidite series is an exciting and suspenseful adventure. Roya and her group is once again called upon to complete a dangerous mission. This time it is to rescue the Lucidites scientist, Aiden, who is also Roya's on again, off again love interest. Aiden has been captured by the Voyagers, a break away group of mentally talented Lucidites who want the technology that the scientist can provide. The great twists and turns and ongoing character development is amazing. I love Ren's dark sarcasm and caustic personality, it makes you want you get inside his head to see why he is as standoffish as he is and why he hates the Voyages so much. Roya stays true to her teenage character but you can still see her growth. Her struggles to sort out her emotional attachments to her twin, the two love interests in her life and the Lucidite society is complex and lifelike. My heart aches for George and Joseph, and I love the continued interweaving and maturation of the secondary characters. I am looking forward to seeing how things will develop in the next book. The shocking twists at the end of this book is captivating and leaves you rushing to get the next in the series. The narrator did a brilliant job too, she managed to make you feel all the characters emotions and defined their distinct personalities excellently. This book is a bit less techie than the first book but there are still some interesting gadgets in there. I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I greatly enjoyed this second adventure with Roya and company! I would almost say it was good for all ages but there's a little bit of "strong language". Maybe more of a PG-13 rating is appropriate.

Ms. Noffke can certainly spin a fascinating yarn! From the first book, Awoken, the rather angst-ridden love triangle among Roya, Aiden, and George was expounded upon.

I have to admit that while I wasn't too surprised by Joseph's mysterious project, I was caught off guard by another revelation.

It seemed like there were a few more (minor) editorial errors in this one. Nevertheless, it was still far more well edited than the majority of books available for free or gifted for reviews and I enjoyed every second of it. I'm very much looking forward to reading Revived soon!

Well it just keeps getting better and better. I seriously love this series. I cannot stop thinking about it, it's keeping it up at night and I tend to just read instead of sleep so I finish faster.
Roya is such a strong character and I love everything about her. All the characters again compliment each other but to be fair I really like George more then Aiden. It annoys me every time Roya just lets Aiden do his thing but that is who she is and well just have to see how it plays out.
That cliff at the end man if I didn't have the third waiting in my que to be read I would have thrown a fit. All the twists and turns this author comes up with fascinates me and keeps me questioning what is going to happen next.
The new evil in this book adds to the story as well. I really am looking forward to the next book and how Roya is going to get out of this as well as her reaction to that last words being told to her.
Joseph needs to get a handle over things too. He is driving me up the wall but I know how twins can be.
This book has emotions, adventure, humor, and all around a fantastic adventure. I highly recommend it. I received this in exchange for an honest review.

I just love Sarah Noffke’s writing style and the way everything flows, never choppy or hard to understand. I can’t wait to read more from Sarah!

Stunned is the second book in the Lucidites series and I loved it just as much as the first! I felt Roya’s pain and struggle of basically suffocating being underground at the Institute and just wanting to go away and not think about the Lucidites and the battle she just completed with Zhuang. You’d think the girl would deserve some time off!

Just when she is about to leave and spend the days with her pseudo parents, like the day of (!), Trey halts all travel as the Lucidites are faced with a new challenge, the Voyagers. They have abducted one of the head officials and Roya and her team are in charge of his rescue. Just when Roya thinks she can get out there and have a peaceful life....BAM. Another mission. Sorry, girl, you have to save the world again. The description is correct. This novel is action PACKED. I love every minute of it. There is drama, fighting, secrecy, French-accented bad guys, and mystical powers. I was/am sold! I read it in one day, if I remember correctly. I actually won "Stunned" in a caption contest for Sarah Noffke's book release party recently on the Band of Dystopian Authors and Fan Facebook page. I had already snagged "Awoken" when it was FREE for a day on Amazon when there was a promotion happening, but hadn't read it yet. I zoomed through book one, so when book two arrived via mail (woo! Paperback edition!), I could start right away. It did not disappoint.

Oh my word! This was such a good book. I was a bit afraid to read it after Awoken because I was scared it wouldn’t be as good. But WOW! That is the word I thought when I finished. Wow! It was really well written with loads of suspense and twists. I am so going to cry when this series is over because I love the characters so much and I really don’t want it to end. I was planning on savouring the last one but after that ending I just can’t not read it!
I would really, really recommend this book! Sarah Noffke writes really well, I love the plot and the characters are amazing! Totally worth a read!

Stunned is Book 2 in The Lucidites series and it's even better than the first. Seriously intriguing, dark, and suspenseful, while simultaneously being heart wrenching, funny, and endearing, Stunned is an absolute page turner. Roya in all her imperfection, is somehow the perfect YA heroine.

If you are a fan of similar series in the YA genre, you really need to check out the entire The Lucidites Series.

Love, love, love these books!

The world building and technological advancement is even more detailed than in the first book. The lies, secrets, and mysteries behind the Institute makes it feel more sinister than safe. The uncertainty tarnishes the overall image of what should be a haven for the Lucidites and gives Roya’s apprehension validity.

Wow this book is Stunning. Sarah sure knew what she was doing when she picked the name to this book. it had lots of twists in it.i felt sorry for Roya in this one. Aiden is ignoring Roya for Amber. Joseph is disappearing after convincing Roya to stay. Her friends have assignments and shes left alone. Then theres a kidnapping and Roya is put in charge with their return. And that ending almost had me falling off my bed when I read/listened to it. I cant wait to start book 3.

Great 2nd installment even though teenage love triangles can be annoying, but everything else was good. The bomb dropped at the end has me clicking away on Amazon to get the 3rd book!

I love Sarah Noffke's work. I love the Dream Travellers world and the characters created. But I'm having a hard time liking The Lucidites series. Overall, the plots are interesting and complex, but it's the characters that I'm disliking. Roya is 16 years old, and she is the centre of attention, basically, for four men - two her age, and two older. Now, on the one hand I can understand that Roya craves love because she grew up in basically a loveless home, so I can see her falling for any guy who flirts with her. But these four men are selfish and only want what's best for them.

Roya's in love with Aiden, the head scientist of the Institute, so he's got to be in his 20s if not older. There's this overwhelming desire between the two of them, but Aiden lets it go to a certain point and then backs away, saying he can't jeopardize his career, and it would be over if anyone of his peers, or his boss, found out. So, he runs hot and cold with Roya, which of course, frustrates and confuses her. Then there's George, a guy her approximate age, one of her team. He knows, because he's an empath, that she is in love with Aiden and is confused over everything going on with that. However, George tells her he's in love with her, but also tells her that he knows that she's trying to figure out things with Aiden and he won't stand in her way and will give her time to figure things out. But, the very next meeting he's again trying to press his suit with her. Again, selfish. She has feelings for him as well, which is one reason she's so confused, but neither man is giving her the time or the space to figure things out. Not that Roya is entirely blameless in this - when Aiden goes cold on her, she turns to George, but still can't stop thinking about Aiden so ends up back trying to get things the way she wants with him.

Then there's Joseph. Another selfish male. He tells her that he has a top secret project that he's working on that he needs her help with (ie., her energy), but he won't tell her what it is, even when he, occasionally shows up looking like he's three days dead and the cat has dragged him through a keyhole backwards. He gets royally angry with Roya when she tries to get him to tell him what he's doing that's causing him to look this way, and then threatens to leave the Institute so that he can't use her energy for it. So, he's being stubborn and selfish, even though Roya is doing this because she's concerned about him.

And finally (for this anyway), there's the bad guy, Chase. The Voyageur the team fought with in the first book who decides, because Roya managed to basically stalemate him, that she's his soul mate and he's going to have her or kill everyone she loves to get her. The problem is, he's using technology on her to make her think that she's in love with him, or at least in heavy, panting lust with him, because he wants her. This world's version of the date rape drug if you will. And again, she seems helpless to sort out her emotions and think things through.

I think one of the reasons that this irritates me so much is because Roya is such a strong character that it feels like these men were developed because she had to have a weakness. She wants to be wanted, and desired, and loved. And I get that. Unfortunately this scenario, for me, is like Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, where in every book Anita seems to acquire a new member of her entourage that tells her their sanity or life, or whatever, depends on her having sex with them .... for the good of the pack, and pressuring her into just that. I get that Roya has a difficult fight against Chase and his emotional manipulation of her feelings. What I don't like is that it is due to Chase seeing her as a formidable adversary and thinking that he can overpower her in this way. I'm sorry, I realize men like that don't care what it does to the woman, and probably, honestly don't care that they might as well be having sex with a sex doll no matter what reaction the woman is giving off - because you are controlling how she thinks and reacts. And I don't like how selfish the others are in wanting her but not really allowing her to figure out her feelings without trying to manipulate her as well.
