Crain Carraway, Dallas business tycoon and sports fanatic, is not from Henderson. But his wife is. No one knows that though, because she managed to get cold feet after their impromptu Vegas wedding. Hiding out in her hometown, she’s sicced her lawyer on him, doing her best to buy his silence and a quickie divorce.
Like hell.
It’s taken him way too long to find the perfect Mrs. Carraway, and now that he’s had the fortuitous luck to stumble into Henderson and his bride, he’s not about to let her go.
USA Today bestselling author of the Heroes of Henderson Series.
Liz's Heroes of Henderson series grew out of the New Year's Eve Anthology, Countdown To A Kiss, where the Devine Sisters of Henderson, N.C. had a bet every year at their parents' New Year's Eve ball. The sister who didn't have a date to kiss at midnight had to kiss their nerdy neighbor, Lewis Kampmueller.
Duncan James, the hero of Liz's novella in Countdown To A Kiss (which has also been published separately as Playin' Cop) is not only best friends with Lewis, but with both Brooks Bennett and Vance Evans, his fraternity brothers from NC State. Brooks and Vance are the Henderson cops who kick off the series with Good Cop and Bad Cop.
Recurring characters is the theme of the Henderson series. Each book is a complete romance in and of itself, but you won't lose touch with the couples you fall in love with. They keep playing big parts and small in following books as Brooks and Vance lead Team Henderson in finding ways to revive their small town.
"DuVal Cousin" books are an additional part of the Heroes of Henderson series, and usually are tucked in between books with numbers like 2.5 and 3.5. They can be full length novels or short novellas, and they are based on Lolly DuVal's (from Good Cop) Henderson cousins. Where the Heroes books are hero-centric, the DuVal Cousin books are heroine based.
Henderson is an actual town in North Carolina where some of Liz's favorite people were raised. Liz's version of Henderson is completely fictional since she hasn't had the pleasure of going back in nearly thirty years. But oh the fun she had while visiting there in her youth. Her memories are the perfect landscape for her contemporary romances.
Liz enjoys putting friends and readers in cameo appearances in her books. Originally from Baltimore, she spent every summer near Annapolis, Maryland in a community where dancing and romancing are literally part of its theme song. (The place where Jesse James gets banished from in Bad Cop. There is going to be a series about that place someday.)
A graduate of Wake Forest University, where she met her handsome golf-addicted husband, (who is now sporting dark glasses everywhere he goes) Liz is a mother of two grown sons (also sporting dark glasses) and a miniature Labradoodle named Isabelle. They live in the Fountain of Youth, a.k.a. Naples, FL where dancing and romancing continues on ad infinitum.

If Henderson were real I would want to vote for Liz Kelly to be Mayor. The ideas expressed in Top Dog to solve a small town's problems were just amazing. Bringing all the people together with ideas and finance was just a delight to read. The basic story of Crain and his brand new wife who leaves him after one night is fraught with misunderstandings and problems. Yes, they get solved along the way, but it is the way they are solved that makes this book so interesting. Once again Liz Kelly has given her readers another wonderful book. Full of characters I have come to know so well, and love hearing about their current antics, plus new ones that blend well amongst the others. The interactions between all the characters is just plain fun to read.
Top Dog by Liz Kelly is book three in her Heroes of Henderson series. Crain Carraway is a Millionaire who lives and works in Dallas and he LOVES sports. Crain has issues with sitting still and he hardly ever feels settled until he starts dating Elizabeth. Crain & Elizabeth decide to go to Vegas for a getaway and when they are there they decide to get married than Elizabeth gets cold feet and runs. Crain spends months trying to locate his wife without any luck until he decided to visit Henderson to look into investing in a new sports center. Are you wondering who is wife is that lives in Henderson? You will have to read the book to find out! This book was awesome with lots of twist and turns! This book has some sexual content, and no violence. This book was very well written and was a very quick and easy read. I absolutely loved this book and I have loved the whole series so far. I highly recommend it this book!
The story-telling style is not for me. Too many side stories of side characters which have nothing to do with the supposed main characters, Mr. & Mrs. Carraway. And to me, Tansy is a cheater.
I just can't get enough of Henderson!!! I loved Crain And Tansy's story! I wasn't a huge fan of Tansy at first but this book changed my mind! Crain was seriously delicious! I love that even though this was focused on Crain and Tansy, that you get glimpses into the rest of the clan too!! That makes me super happy! I'm off to listen to the next book!!!
I knew Tansy had a story & boy was I right! I’m so in love with Henderson right now, it’s like my newest obsession.
Tansy/Elizabeth made a different life for herself in Dallas, TX, but then she got spooked after realizing her actions weren’t acceptable for a girl of her social standing.
When Crain Calloway shows up unexpectedly in Henderson & finds his estranged wife, all kinds of antics ensue. As always it’s fun to catchup with all our old Henderson crew & interesting to see who’s to pop up next.
Liz has done it again. I really enjoyed Tansy and Crain's crazy story. Probably not as much as Bad Cop which is my fave so far but still heaps of fun. I just adore the relationship between the characters and how they back each other up, particularly Brookes, Vance and Pinks. Can't wait for Under Dog to be published. Pinks is just the bomb.
Liz continues to captivate me! Henderson is my new favorite series and I would love to live there. Revisiting the characters is like coming home, and when new characters are introduced, it just gets better. Crain is an amazing addition and is perfect for Randy! Vance still has my heart, but Crain and his great Texas charm cannot be beat. Loved this book! Book gifted by author.
Crain Caraway is by far the sexiest long, tall drink of water your mother warned you about, but nobody told Tansy Langford. When she and Crain elope in haste in Vegas what happens in Vegas starts a rollicking good adventure that will have you howling and crying all at the same time. If you love romantic comedy you must read Top Dog ASAP.
