Your Life Is a Hero's Journey!: An Illustrated Guide to Facing Life's Challenges

Rate this book
You are being summoned for a hero’s journey, and this is the guide to your coming adventure, you need only to take the first step.

The hero’s journey is a timeless mythological framework found in literature, media, and storytelling from all over the world that follows our myriad of heroes from the call to adventure, through the metaphorical threshold, into and out of the all-encompassing void, and eventually back home again.

In Your Life Is a Hero’s Journey!: An Illustrated Guide to Facing Life’s Challenges, author and illustrator Misha Maynerick Blaise uses whimsical art and humor to explore the stages of the hero’s journey as a metaphor for personal growth and transformation. Blaise guides readers into a creative shift in perspective that aims to provide encouragement for facing the ever-present problems of life head-on!

In the end, Blaise reminds readers that you are the hero in the ever-challenging and beautiful journey that is your one precious life. Your quest, should you choose to answer the call, is to be brave enough to uncover your true self more deeply with each new adventure. And maybe slay (and cuddle!) some dragons along the way!

Thank you Andrews McMeel for my #gifted copy. These opinions are my own.

This beautiful book traces--through prose and illustration--main archetypal themes from mythology and literature through a hero's journey, representing the general phases of each individual's psychological growth and transformation. While all of us are dealing with the extremely common human experience of facing huge challenges, no one else has the same experience as you do, so not everything will apply. But the author hopes that the book can help each unique individual find meaning in the joys and the suffering of the journey. I found the illustrations to be beautiful! They brought to mind all sorts of ancients—Persians, Greeks, Mayans, and motifs that make me think of India and China (but that I’m not educated enough to have names for). It is at once eminently giftable and eminently a self-help book. I recommend for lovers of mythology, psychology, or simply people who need help to find meaning and comfort in life.
