Born, raised and currently based in Lafayette, Louisiana, Rob Guillory is most known for his art on Image Comics' longrunning series CHEW. Written by John Layman, the book has achieved much success, winning two Harvey Awards (including Best New Talent for Guillory) and two Eisner Awards (Best New Series in 2010 and Best Continuing Series in 2011).
After a bit of a break, Farmhand returns for its final climactic arc, with all of Freetown and the Jenkins family trying to take down the creature that was once Monica Thorne once and for all.
Pretty much everything Guillory has seeded (ha!) across the past 20 issues comes home to roost in these last six issues, to excellent effect. It took me a second to remember who everyone was, but once I was back on board, I was definitely enjoying myself all over again.
Some things get a bit silly, and a bit insane, with a literal deus ex machina at one point, but it fits with the themes of the book and the stuff that Guillory has set up from the beginning, like the power of faith, so I'm not mad about it. It's a satisfying conclusion, which is what we all want at the end of the day, and the epilogue issue at the end works well to square all the corners and put the book to a nice rest.
