One of the best moments of the series to date is right here in this volume. The meeting of Nanoha and Chidori after they’ve gone a week without seeing one another is one of the sweetest little moments to date.
Otherwise, this is largely doing what it always has been. The girls are keeping their secret to themselves and stealing all the time together they possibly can. I feel that it is, as fluff goes, pretty decent.
But it’s still fluff, so adjust expectations accordingly. There are some other good bits here. Nanoha getting a little too invested in a game of Life being played during their Christmas party is very funny.
Chidori’s gift also goes down really well, but then leads to a romantic interlude that was very well done. I appreciated the dual chapters for their separate New Year’s Eves as well and how that came back later on.
Towards the end, Mai comes back and I was pleased with how they integrated her after Nanoha rejected her. Mai’s friendship with Chidori has been a clever touch and I also like Mai’s pursuit of her team manager. That’s a fun little bonus coupling going on in the background.
It basically is just doing all the things that it was previously doing, plus a couple extra bits. Now that it’s into a rhythm I find myself mostly okay with just sitting back and letting these two be in love. It’s pretty wholesome.
3.5 stars - a little extra because it does have some good times that are better than its baseline, plus the art is really strong by this point. Above average average fluff.
