鈴木ジュリエッタ Suzuki Julietta is a Japanese manga artist born in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Her pen name comes from a character named Julietta Sakamoto from the seinen manga series, Air Master. She likes cats, koalas, and sharks. According to an interview with Hakusensha, she first started drawing when she was in her second year of elementary school in a sketchbook of Japonica. During her free time, she meets her friends, goes for a drink, or out for a meal. She states that although she doesn't read much, she enjoys works by Junji Itō. Her favourite character is Ashia and mentions that male characters are easier to draw in general.
Well, okay, this romance is really winning me over. Like, a lot. Sure we get a lot of nonsense where people are assuming the wrong things, but because we’ve spent a lot of time with Hina and Amanatsu it’s totally believable.
Hina is, basically, too innocent and Amanatsu is too cautious and tsundere. Amanatsu in particular is so behind the curve when it comes to acknowledging his feelings that it’s no surprise things only move so far this volume.
Still, that doesn’t mean they won’t cute all over one another for the whole thing and that turns out to be shockingly adorable. Seeing Hina get all swoony over a real person is fun (although the reveal of the inside of her coffin made me laugh).
But Hina’s innocence makes her easily hurt and this is exemplified during the first chapters, when an IRL meetup of online friends becomes a chance for Amanatsu to act like a jerk, yet not, as it happens, without reason.
This is a real stew of a thing because Amanatsu does go a bit hard in protecting Hina, to the point where she is annoyed by him, but there’s absolutely a creepy element to the guy who shows up that Hina is too innocent to notice.
Still, the other two fans who show up are so nice to Hina and the whole thing ends up being just the cutest. I’m not going to lie, cute is absolutely the buzzword for this volume and the love story in progress is just satisfying stuff.
There are tons of little reveals about peoples’ thoughts and actions sprinkled throughout that give away how they’re feeling and it has a little more nuance than some other romances in a similar vein (sorry, not sorry).
Mostly that applies to Amanatsu, of course, since he guards himself a lot, but there are also enough misunderstandings to go around. Although, again, if Amanatsu would just actually say what he’s thinking, it would solve a lot.
Yet they still get much closer anyway, so it all works out. There’s more than enough to please my needs as a shipper without heading straight to the end game in that respect. When you have two characters with surprisingly good chemistry, it’s pretty easy to make a good manga.
If you want a plot-heavy volume, this isn’t it, although some of the ongoing ones raise their head by the time we reach the end. Instead it’s more a series of smaller stories anchored by the two leads getting together. I’m fine with that.
4 stars - this might be my favourite volume yet, honestly, just because it’s so much fun to see Hina and Amanatsu coming together like this. An imperfect pairing, but not in a way that suggests that’s a bad thing.
The first half of this book was not good. It was the same conversation repeated so many times. I understand an inner struggle, but this was just filler for the pages around the actual story. Then, leaving the volume on a huge cliff hanger isn’t really fair for the reader when so much of the story was fluff.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First Hina confessed to Amanatsu and now she keeps running into Viktor’s protective barrier. She’s having trouble deciding whether or not it’s okay to want to suck his blood. Hmmm…sounds like trouble for sure! Another adorable volume full of troublesome vampire/human conflict!
Damn what a cliffhanger for me to be left on when I have to wait a while to read the next volume! For most of this volume I was ready to give it a 3/5 because I have miscommunications and Hina & Amanatsu just seemed to misunderstand each other and their intentions for the entire volume.
But then we finally got someone telling Hina she’s in love with Amanatsu and breaking that wide open so that was a positive for me in moving the story along.
Still, I need for Amanatsu to stop being so aloof and figure out how he feels about Hina properly too.
I enjoyed both the first story with the Otaku friends and last story with Rinya (aka Mao’s voice actor) telling Hina she’s in love with Amanatsu… and offering her a blood drinking lesson. 🫢😯 The whole middle with the back and forth of “did he cancel plans with his friends because he’s scared of ghosts or because he likes me??” was aggravating.
Recap: Hina confessed last volume and is feeling awkward about it especially because amanatsu didn’t react. She has a vampire cross meet up with three people and one turns out to be a creepy dude. Amanatsu protects her and the two girls tell her he’s obviously into her. They go to look at Christmas lights and that’s when she finds out amanatsu had plans but blew them off for her. They go on a ghost tour, and Momoi finds out Amanatsu likes Hina and becomes a wing man. Hina finally gets repelled by Victor’s blood contract and freaks out. Ending up in the vampire bar again where the other dude suggests helping her learn about sucking blood.
I love this series. It’s just the right amount of cute and romantic to hit that spot I love. A vampire who’s a huge anime otaku that has never sucked the blood of a human straight from the source meets a boy that looks like her favorite character and immediately becomes fascinated with him. It’s been an incredibly slow burn, because she’s only just now admitted her feelings to him and he’s only just admitted his feelings to himself. So it’ll be another 7 books before they kiss.😭
Thank you to the publisher and Edelweiss for my gifted eARC.
Excellent romance development in this volume. Hina confessed in the previous volume and is now embarrassed about it, but Amanatsu behaves like nothing’s happened. But deep down, he’s ready admit that he likes Hina too.
With emotions, new problems arise. Hina finds herself wanting to drink Amanatsu’s blood, even though she’s never drank from a human before. But Viktor’s servant barrier stops her getting close to Amanatsu. So Rinya the meddling vampire decides to meddle again, and he’s up to no good. I can’t wait to read the next volume.
ugh i absolutely love this series, i think the dynamics being so much different from kamisama kiss (tomoe being the true immortal and nanami being the mortal, but in this series hina is the immortal and amanastu is the mortal) are what also make it so unique.
in this volume, hina discovers she can no longer make physical contact with amanastu because she is both in love with him and wants his blood…
Amanatsu might be the only Tsundere I have ever really liked. He does a lot of very caring things without fully making his feelings know. I appreciate him. And this volume does feel like it focused on feelings which, is why I am here. We get a little bit of stuff with vampires and their ways but this was focused on Hina and Amantsu coming to terms with how they feel.
Hina is simply way to adorable! The plot is only getting thicker now that she confessed and she is still trying to figure things out. Further her inability to even touch Amanatasu is having her jump to all kind of conclusions. I did really like the one chapter when they all went to visit a haunted tunnel it reminded me of Dark Gathering just without the intense horror!
This volume flew by. It's fascinating to see how this was split between Amanatsu struggling to acknowledge his own feelings, as well as Hina beginning to learn what her feelings towards him have become. The fact that Victor's contact shield has now activated just makes everything so much more messy, and I'm eager to see where it goes from here!
Ohhh I cannot STAND the miscommunication and the characters being dense about liking each other… JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY. I’m assuming Rinya might eff with everything and start the progress over…. Please let Amanatsu make sure that doesn’t happen…
I love this! It's so cute and interesting! It's also getting into the romance finally. These two would be so cute together. Hina and Amanatsu are awesome. I they're so compatible. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Oh god they’re so cute. I hope this series goes at least a bit further than them just getting together but I do also like all the little bits of vampire lore in this world.
