Tim Bird's Grey Area series is, in many ways, similar to his latest book, The Great North Wood. The narrative relies on space to tell the story, there's a keen awareness of history and the past, and in many cases, there is an observer who stands as a proxy to the reader, experiencing what we as readers take in.

This is an small-press published graphic novel with some of the most lovely illustrations I have seen in a while. They are computer generated and made up from a very limited colour palette, not always something I enjoy, but it works so well for this simple, thought-provoking story.

This is, quite simply, a story about journeying and what you might see along the way were you to go from the hubbub of London all the way East to the sea. It's told through simple panels which each illustrate elements and images, places and things you might see along your adventure. They are all small things, big things, and medium things, and some of the pages are just truly beautiful in a very simple, sublime way.

I loved this story, it relies heavily on the images and less so on the words, but it all comes together really well and flows into a great piece overall. I do believe that this might also be a series of stories under the name 'Grey Area' so if I can track down any more then that would be fab, but we shall see.
Overall 4*s :)
