This wasn't bad, but it wasn't stellar. Very middle of the road for me. From what I understand, this is a spinoff, and I could kind of tell. It didn't seem to have the same energy and feel as the regular series.

3, for the completionists and curious, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC of this book to read and review.

This...exists.

I understand, in theory, the purpose of this sort of work in Japanese media -- it's sort of like "Muppet Babies," an alternate universe in which things are gentler and sillier. Fine. And it is fairly amusing to envision all these psychopathic assassins running various shops in a shopping mall, with the governing body of assassins replace by a sort of HOA. But, see, the problem is that it's not silly ENOUGH. It's too quotidian. Too banal. I had to force my way through the volume because the basic premise wasn't enough to sustain the "comedy."

It would have worked better had it leaned into the absurdity of its premise, having the same over-the-top art-style as the main series but focused on slice-of-life and the daily operations of the store. Instead it just sort of...exists, without justifying that existence.

As someone who can never get enough Sakamoto Days, I am definitely the target audience for this series. It is a fun, lighthearted alternate story in which no blood is shed and the characters are all simply small businesses owners trying to succeed and make their shopping arcade the best around. It keeps a very similar tone to the goofier Sakamoto chapters and has a couple great pages in each chapter. X’s Used Bookstore is hilarious to me lol and the Shishiba Ramen chapter was a highlight. Nothing serious but all good stuff

This was a fun read! It's much sillier (in a good way) and feels like an alternate world to the main storyline. Overall enjoyable.

"Sakamoto Holidays" is a fun spinoff of "Sakamoto Days" and is written by a different author but illustrated by the same person. It follows the characters as they navigate working in the Ikoraizaka shopping arcade. The arcade is a bit dangerous so the crew decides to try and revitalize the area. All the characters keep their personality from the main manga, but their antics are a lot sillier in this one. (It's probably best to read the original manga first as there are some minor references to people and such from it.)

It's a really fun and chill read! I'm looking forward to the next volume.

Sakamoto Days is one of my favorite current animes/manga. Unlike Sakamoto Days which has more of a serious nature in the manga, Sakamoto Holidays is more light hearted. Sakamoto Holidays takes the already cozy assassin genre to a whole new cozy. Sakamoto and Shin are trying to make their shopping area one of the safest ones and in doing so gets into crazy situations.

This spin off is a great lazy-day read when you don't want to read life on the line manga, but still have the action.

If you're looking for more Sakamoto Days to fill the void, this is a great way to do it! It's filled with action and humor with appearances from all the favorites as they try to keep the shopping arcade safe. I thought this was more of a genuine spin-off but it's really more of an alternate universe.

It feels like the earlier volumes of the main series where there wasn't as much of a plot. The side characters are younger and all work in the local market now. It had kind of a gag spinoff more than a more humorous laid back version of the main story as each chapter tried to bring in one of the characters.

I like that this isn't just a side story, it's a full on alternate universe about everyone running shops and getting into more low-stakes wacky hijinks like 'vegetable thieves' and 'which shop makes better ramen'. It's a fun little gag manga AND it has more Osaragi in it we love more Osaragi look at her she has a grocery store!

A spinoff series for the original Sakamoto Days this features the former assassin who is now a pudgy storeowner with a wife and kid who runs a corner store is a version in which Shin, the new kid who shows up to befriend and work for Sakamoto try to kick off a delivery service.

It was entertaining and for fans who want more in the universe.

REAL RATING: 3 and a half stars.

Fun! SAKAMOTO DAYS lost its gag/slice of life elements a few volumes in, but this brings them right back, without ever losing the big SAKAMOTO action splash pages - as this manga is written by an ex-assistant on SAKAMOTO DAYS. I was a little bummed to discover this is an entirely different continuity, but it's because they want to use all the characters without dealing with any continuity.
