I'm the author of the webcomic Dinosaur Comics (that's the comic where the pictures don't change but the words do, it's better than it sounds and I've also done crazy things like turn Shakespeare into a choose-your-own-path adventure, write a comic for Marvel about a girl with all the powers of a squirrel, or mess up walking my dog so badly it made the news.

I feel bad rating this as low as I have, so if I were able to give it another half-star (as I know many people round their score up on here), I most definitely would. The big thing is, much like the Rick and Morty graphic novel I just reviewed, I feel obligated to read this. It feels more like something I have to do, rather than something I want to do, which will always affect my thoughts on it one way or another. With that being said, I still had a good time with this comic.

For context, I am not a big Adventure Time fan. It was a bit past my time, but I have many friends who are still as into it as they were growing up. I was given some Adventure Time bracelets and a Lumpy Space Princess shot-glass by a former friend of mine, and that is about it in terms of me being into this franchise. Nevertheless, Princess Power definitely caught my interest with its bright pink aesthetic and the fantastic art on the front cover.

This is a pretty random assortment of Adventure Time comics bundled into one graphic novel. The feature presentation, which is a five-part story, does not even start until about halfway through. I am not a fan of these types of graphic novel releases, as it is more of a “greatest-hits compilation” than a coherent story.

With that being said, this does feel like a few episodes of the show brought to the page. The artwork is good, the colors are fantastic, and I liked a lot of the random and cute humor. However, even if I recognize all of the characters and their personalities, I just could not care less about what was going on. Besides, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline did not kiss, which was a missed opportunity.

Overall, I feel bad for not being into this, but it is like if I gave someone who loved classic romance novels a Batman comic-book as a gift and told them to read it. Sometimes, you cannot teach a dog new tricks — you would have to break an arm and a leg for me to get into something new sometimes. Speaking of Batman, I only got this just to add it to my Oni Press and DC Comics Compact Collections, and not because I really wanted it. If you like Adventure Time, I am positive that you will adore this. However, I will stick with the comics and shows I grew up watching instead.

this was a joy and babes i was sat. been wanting to get through all the comics and this one was great you already know i love when we see the many princesses of ooo. felt like i was reading multiple episodes, always enjoy everything adventure time and this was tew cute. this counts as my read for pride month btw

Graphic Novel | Based on Cartoon TV Series | Chill Adventures

• Plot:
Adventure Time: Princess Power features five short stories. We get to see many of the main characters, including Finn, Jake, BMO, Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, Ice King, LSP, and several other princesses, villains, and side characters.

• What I Liked:
The comic is as entertaining as the cartoon TV series is. I watched the show when it first came out and was glad to see a lot of the earlier characters in this. The “Best Princesses” competition was my favorite story. I didn’t even know there was a Turtle Princess before this, but after meeting her, I really liked her. She’s such a sweet character, a book lover who hopes to find a reading companion. In the competition, different princesses show what makes them the best by handling conflicts using their own strengths. I was happy to see Turtle Princess reappear later in a different story; she helped define some of the vocabulary words BMO says.

• Themes / Ideas:
Friendship, being yourself, partying, age vs. youth, and communication.

• Who I’d Recommend It To:
Fans of the Adventure Time show and anyone who enjoys chill, comedic cartoons.

• Overall Thoughts:
This graphic novel features the show's core characters, and we get a little extra background information about the female characters. Finn and Jake still appear, so it’s not exclusively centered on the princesses. All the characters shown on the cover make an appearance, and even more are included. Lemongrab is only mentioned, but it still fits well within the story. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this! The art is awesome, and the dialogue is jam-packed.

'Adventure Time Compact Edition: Princess Power!!!'

Less princesses than I anticipated. Far more of Finn and Jake, too.

Still, it is a fun 'Adventure Time' collected issues comic. Some of the stories are really clever and twisty. Just as cartoony, funny, subversive and surreal as the animated series.

I swear Lumpy Space Princess has more panel time than Princess Bubblegum, though. And Marceline is underused and undermined, which is all kinds of sad.

At least it's more entertaining and closer to canon than 'Marcy & Simon'.

Grabbed this graphic novel on a whim off a library shelf while I was out and about searching for a different thing. I knocked it out in a couple days and it was fine, I guess. I wasn't really sure what to expect, and it kinda felt like stories lifted from early Adventure Time seasons. Nothing was particularly bad or anything, but nothing really stood out either. It was fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
