Nila Patterson doesn’t want anything to do with wolves. Her werewolf ex-husband continues to stalk her and their son, terrifying her to no end. The last thing she wants to do is acknowledge her attraction to the very sexy Malachi Slattery, who has been watching her for weeks. He’s not as discreet as he thinks he’s being. She’s not about to forget that Malachi is a wolf, and she’s learned the hard way that wolves are not to be trusted.
All Malachi Slattery wants to do is take care of Nila and her son. Nila is his mate, and his wolf has been howling to protect her ever since they met. But she doesn’t like wolves, and he can’t figure out a way to get her to see that he’s nothing like her ex. He’ll have to use every trick in the book in order to get past her defenses and prove to her that he’s a male she can count on. When her ex does the unthinkable in a ploy to get her back into his arms, Malachi will show him why no one messes with a Protector’s mate.
This book contains one stubborn woman, one determined wolf, a sweet little boy, sprinkled liberally with a dose of crazy ex, stalking, kidnapping, and excessive use of the word ‘mine’. Contains m/f interaction.
I loved this book. Nila and Mal were great together- their relationship was so sweet and it was easy to see why they felt the way they did. Their relationship was fleshed out better than the H and h from the first book in the series. Also, Mal was very loving and wonderful to Nila's son Jack. I really enjoyed this one! No OW drama at all. Totally safety gang safe
This. Wow. It’s very rare that I fall for a shifter story so quick so fast but this one has taken the cake for it all. A caring, protective, all-out sexy shifter that knows he’s found his mate but how to make HER understand she is the ONE when she wants nothing to do with wolves. Therein lies the conundrum.
*Malachi's inpiration. Yes, and thank you!
Malachi Slattery is part of the Wilde Creek Shifter pack, a pack that just as most other packs and until just very recently did not accept humans for mates, however recent law changes within the pack now permits any wolf to mate with whomever they choose. Lucky for Malachi as his wolf chose human Nila Caruthers. Unfortunately for him, Nila wants nothing to do with him. A terrible experience with her ex, a wolf from another pack, has made her fearful of other relationships involving wolves, where women, especially human women are treated with the utmost disdain and indifference, almost as third class citizens.
*Nila as per R.E. Butler's FB page. I think she fits the description perfectly =D
Nila of course tries to deny her feelings for Malachi as she’s still reluctant to let herself feel again, even though he's doing nothing but trying to make her happy, feel safe, and loved. I just kept asking myself, what would I do in that situation? but with a protector like Malachi I’m sure I’d have reacted like Nila ;) He disarmed her and lowered all her defenses until her barreled through and won her heart. The love story was believable and the action that kept the plot going certainly didn't disappoint. The flow of the story was flawless. There were no unnecessary characters or misplaced scenes. I loved that about this book! Sometimes I found myself skimping through pages because I found dialogues boring, or a character rambling too much but not in this case. I only wish I got more details and a more in-depth description of their world so I hope as the series progresses we get to see more of that. I got the other books in the series as I wanted to complete my collection and will definitely read more by R.E. Butler.
++ I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review ++
I rated this book Five Stars because Protector's Heart ( Wilde Creek #3 ) is so freakin "AWESOME". I'm a such a "HUGH FAN " of R.E Butlers writing, she creates characters that just uses your imagination to pulls you into the stories. I have always love the Wilde Creek shifter series so much that I read the story thru the night without sleep until I finish the book #3. You will always be able to count on R.E. Butler to never disappoint with her books. Nila was afaid of getting involved with Wolves because of how her ex husband who is a wolf that mistreated her and her son Jack. Malachi only wants to convince Nila that's she is his mate and he wants to love and protect her and Jack. Jack's nickname for Malachi is " Carrot " and is so adorable. There's drama, hot steamy love scenes, lots of love and romance. I love when the characters from the first two books a included and let's you catch up with each couples life. I'm so excitied about the up coming books in the Wilde Creek series. This will make a marvelous GIFT. YOU WILL NOT WANT TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN AT ALL!!
I knew Malachi was gonna have a tough time with Nila. She's had such a hard time with her crazy ass ex. I also felt really bad for him because she was really really against wolves of any kind which was wrong. There were times I wanted to smack her upside the head because Malachi was an awesome guy. For a good long while she was really hard on him and wouldn't give him the time of day. He is sweet, tender, protective, loving...the list goes on. I understood her reasons but it was unfair to put ALL wolves in the same class as her ex. I'm glad Malachi never gave up and took his time with her so she felt she had a choice. When she finally came to her senses and realized how unfair she was being and gave him a chance I was fist pumping for him! LOL. Awesome book! Book 2 sort of brought this issue to light but I honestly feel bad for some of the Omegas. Most don't mind being Omegas and accept their place in the pack. There are others who want more especially those who used to be useful and because of injuries or unable to shift who are unhappy. :( I hope the next book things get better and Acksel addresses this problem. I know things are the wya they are but should be changed. Non-shifters can still fight and they should be given a chance to...even in human form. Anyways, thats what I think. :) Getting ready to read book 4 Jeremiah's story.
Malachi moved out of Wilde Creek when his parents left to another pack in hopes of finding his soul mate. When a position as a Protector for his best friend's mate comes up, he jumps at the chance to return to Wilde Creek, not imaging he would find his mate there and to top it all off she is human.
Nila being a human had a very bad experience with her first marriage to a werewolf. The bitter taste has stayed with her and she needs to get past it if she wants any kind of relationship with a man, namely Malachi. Bad thing is he is also a werewolf, but all men/werewolf aren't the same right, her son is half?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!! Nila’s trauma and her resistance to trusting another wolf after her harrowing experience with her ex creates a strong emotional foundation. Malachi’s determination to prove that he’s different from her past mistakes is admirable, and his protective instincts make him a memorable hero. The bond between Nila and Malachi builds slowly, allowing readers to fully invest in their connection. The conflict with the ex adds a layer of danger that keeps the story moving at a good pace. While there are some predictable elements, the romance and Malachi's unwavering devotion to Nila are what make this one stand out.
Good story and way more enjoyable that the first two books. Nila is human who married a wolf shifter. She had a right to be careful about getting involved with another male wolf after her ex husband abused her. She at least slowly opens up to Malachi. Malachi was a sweetie with Nila and Jack but I can see his attitude to his sister Mia and his friend Lucian will be a problem. Read in the box set volume two.
This is another book I have had in my TBR pile, and I wish I had gotten to it before now. This is a well written shifter story with great characters. I loved the little boy he helped make the story. I would encourage everyone who likes shifter stories to go get this one. This one is worth your time. Go get this one and enjoy.
A wolf protecting his mate from another who punishes her for being human, none the less Malachi proves his worth to Nili and makes her his mate and makes sure she is safe and his family are ok.
Him and his damn lickable chest. (lucky girl!) This was his heaven. You’re my angel. My heart. My life. *sigh* What I wouldn’t give for my own Shifter Mate to say that to me! I have been reading this series one after another and it just keeps getting better & better! Part of the reason is because you get the same characters throughout. Each couple does get their own story (so far!) but they are all part of the same Pack, so they pop in & out. I LOVE that! Of course, the main reason that this is such a FANGTABULOUS story is because of R.E. Butler! She is an amazing author that has this remarkable knack for knowing exactly what to put into a story, when, where & how much to make it so addicting that you cannot put it down until you are finished! For me, this story was the most emotional, nerve racking, even more intense than the others, but it was also the most touching, adorable and sweet! Although I do have a craving for carrots now! I want, no I NEED a carrot of my own! THE SWEETEST THING EVER!! (read the book then you will want one too!) “Humans just meet someone they’re attracted to and fall in love, there isn’t some other furry person in our brains telling us that we’ve found ‘the one.’” Only a guy, even or especially, a wolf would think like this- “He’s a good guy, he’s pack, and his mom makes the best meatloaf in town.” LOL One thing I love with R.E.'s writing style, with these books, is that there are many 'layers' to the stories. There is the obvious romance, hot sex & finding and connecting with your mate. Add another 'layer' that is the friendships, Pack & otherwise, as well as Pack business. In this case that also includes Malachi’s security business. Then there is the humorous 'layer' as well that includes all of the one-liners, outright funnies and my personal fave - the naughty ones. I consider the wolf to be a 'layer' all of its own, even though it is a part of all of the other layers being that some of its actions are hilarious, definitely park of the friendship & Pack layers, but he does have his own wolfy personality & presence. “Her smirk slid into a full-blown smile and his wolf grinned like a fool in return.” How many wolves do you know that can do cartwheels and dance around when excited or happy? The last layer is the very intense storyline that is going on interwoven & alongside the romance, friendship & Pack layers, but also all own its own. Now you can see just why I think so highly of R.E.!! There are so many things going on, but they don't distract from the story by being 'too busy' or too much that it gets hard to follow or even worse, it ends up ruining what could have been a great story! It's exactly the opposite! Everything all blends together into a very rich, amazing & pawfect story!! I cannot believe how adorable Jack is and how much he brings to the richness of the story. All too often the kids are there but not seen or heard from. Not so with Jack! Yet one more layer, more charm and more proof of how amazingly gifted R.E. is! Wanna know just how fangtastic, furiffic and what a howling great read I think this series truly is? Read my review for the first 4 books of this Wilde Creek series starting with Mate of Her Heart, #2 The Alpha’s Heart, #3 The Protector’s Heart and #4 The Omega’s Heart. There are so many amazing parts & pieces to the stories but they are too numerous to list. Suffice it to say that they are very emotional books that have this realism to them that lets you connect to the characters almost instantly. There is humor, love, hate, hot sex, emotions running high, mates, wolves & humans, but there is so very much more and it is all intertwined into one fangtastic story you just cannot put down!! You know how a lot of books revolve around the romance side of things, and how once they marry/mate etc. the story usually ends? Well these Wilde Creek books by R.E. are so much more than that! Of course there is the mate side of things, but there is also an intense deeper story that is also going on. These multi-storylines enhance each other and are intertwined together to create this substantial storyline that is all meat & potatoes! No veggies here! We are Wolves after all! snicker I love shifter stories that share the animal side as well. R.E. does this and does it well!! I love knowing what the wolf is thinking, wanting to do, etc. They have this persona, this personality that adds to the richness & quality of the story. I am a very avid reader of paranormal books - in fact I read these 4 books in only 4 days! There is a LOT of books that are awesome, with some that are permanently on my TBR shelf because I love to read them time & again. Very few of them speak to me on a whole different / other level. R.E.'s Wilde Creek series do just that. I am absolutely overwhelmed with the quality of these stories! They are these amazing stories that have this depth to them, a very richness to the storylines. They have that extra something that captivates you from the start and keeps you locked in its power until you reach the very end.
Malachai, a protector of the pack has found his mate. Problem is, Nila (a human) is a single mom and her ex is an abusive wolf from a different pack. She's terrified of wolves and wants only to protect her toddler son but she's attracted to Malachai regardless.
Mal is so sweet and sexy. I love how gentle he was with her. Wooing her and not pressuring her even though she was so skittish. He never pushed but he never gave up on her. He's pretty much perfect when it comes to romance heroes.
Nila was sweet too, I totally got why she wanted to avoid Malachai. It was sad when she hurt him with her standoffishness but that didn't last because she couldn't deny how different he was from her ex and how she couldn't help falling for him.
Of course the ex is still stalking her and posing a threat. Acksel and Brynn feature prominently in the story. The one weird thing was Brynn seemed like a different person in this book. Not that I didn't like her but she wasn't as sweet as she was in the previous book. It's minor though and didn't detract from my enjoyment. I really liked the secondary characters.
Malachi Slattery wants Nila Caruthers, she is his mate. He wants to take care of Nila and her son and protect her from the wolf(her ex-husband) stalking her and her son. But Nila doesn't make it easy to get close to for Malachi, because she of her horrible past with her ex-husband who is a wolf. She doesn't want anything to do with wolves. But the danger to Nila and her son is closing in on them, and Malachi is right there with them to care and protect them once she starts to let him in more. She starts to realize she can't put Malachi in the same category as her ex, that isn't fair to him. She wants to be with Malachi and have herself and her son the life that he is offering. There is just a big wolf problem to get rid of, her ex-husband. Once he is out of the picture, Nila can breathe easier and go much more forward with their plans for a life together.
The Protector's Mate was an amazing book to read. RE Butler does such an fantastic job with all her books, brings her readers books that they can enjoy. I am looking forward to many more.
Loved this book. Nila just wanted to be free of her ex her and her son Jack had been on the receiving end of a wolf shifter, her ex-husband, and she wanted nothing to do with any other wolf. Mal knew the minute he saw Nila that she was his mate. After he finally convinces her, he’s a good guy and would do anything for her and her son, her ex shows up and causes trouble. But it’s more than just trouble, it is dangerous, and nothing is low enough for that guy. All Nila wants is to be free to spend her life with Mal. Now the line is drawn, her ex and Malachi will fight it out. Mal isn’t stupid. He knows this is going to be a dirty fight, but he has to survive to save Nila and Jack. I loved all the details in this book, and the fact that all the other characters are present throughout the book so you can keep caught up on their lives and what’s going on in the pack. I loved their happily ever after. It’s a great series with great characters that pop up throughout the books so you can keep up with everyone.
Mal is a dream and Nila gets a protector and a family. Jack is so cute. Carrot and woof are hilarious. When Jack helped his mom out, like wow never saw that coming. I thought perhaps he might change to a wolf early because thats happened before. This change was a whole new situation and I loved it. I love wilde creek and the friends we are making. Looking forward to the next book and can't wait for Mia's story.
"Super Sexy Protector Wolf oh yeah!" This book is Amazing!!!!!!!!! . I love a book that has suspense, action, humor and steamy hot romance and this book has it all!. The characters are awesome! from super sexy wolf shifter Men to Spunky human Women!. Malachi has found his mate in Spunky Nila, but there is a major problem she has been married to another wolf before who did a major number on her . Nila wants to trust Malachi but can she as he is a wolf shifter. Nila has a small son by her ex. she has to think about to. Plus her ex. is still making problems for her . All the Characters in this series is incredible!. You will find all of R.e Butler's books are amazing! Every one is a Must Read Book!
This was my first R.E. Butler book but it will not be my last! Great storyline involving a macho yet sensitive male, a woman afraid to trust and a cute little guy named Jack. Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. ( Good thing, as I started with the 3rd book!) I loved the following: 1) this book has a different take on the world of shifters and their relationships with non-shifters; 2) two great main characters ( Malachi and Nila )with plenty of secondary characters that make you want to learn their stories and 3) the fact that pack order is defined so well and differently then any other I've read. If you like paranormal (specifically wolf shifters), suspense, romance- this book is a must read!
I recieved an arc b the author for an honest review.
I love love love love R.e Butler!!!
In this third book of the series we see Malachi finding his mate in Nila. Despite the fact he wants to claim her and be with her Nila's life is so messed up that she wants nothing to do with wolves. Will Malachi make her heart melt? Will Nila be able to face her demons and be free of them?
An amazing story written beautifully by R.e that will make your heart melt for sure. As always the characters are awesome and you just want for more! Can't wait to see what will happen in the next book!
This is a great story. This is the first book of the series that I have read, and it prompted me to read the other ones. This story can be read alone or with the series. This story is about a single mother, Nila who has had a bad experience with shifters. Nila has sworn off of shifters forever. Malachi is a wolf shifter who has just learned that Nila was his mate. Malachi is patient and insistent on creating a relationship with Nila. The question is will they be able to survive their problems and begin a new relationship. After reading this story, I purchased the first two and I am looking forward to reading the next one. It was a great read.
This is the first book I have read from this author. I really enjoyed this book.
Malachi is a protector in his Pack. He is watching after his Alpha's pregnant mate. Every day he takes her to work and works on the computer and security at the medical office that she works at. The nurse assistant, Nila, has captured his attention. He knows that her ex is a wolf that has hurt her and her son.
Malachi wants to show Nila that he isn't like her ex. That she is his mate. He would do anything to protect her and her son. Can he break down her walls and show her what being a true mate really is all about?
Nila's ex, who she was separated from, was tormenting her with no regard for their newborn son. With Malachi coming back to town he was added as protection for Brynn when he met Nila. She was really mean to him but he stuck it out and was there for her. The ex, which I still don't understand why was pushing really hard to get her back. It didn't seem like he wanted to do anything besides upset her but for him to go through such great lengths to do it was silly. Not much to it but it was entertaining non the less.
This is a story about Malachi who is a protector for the packs Alpha Brynn who is mated to his alpha Acksel. Bryan is a human and works in a doctors office where he first met Mila who is his mate. She was married to a wolf and has a son by him Jack. She is trying to get a divorce from him. The story is filled with suspense and is a great story I would recommend this book to SHifter lovers Great story.
Malachi is a strong, protective, and patient wolf shifter who gives the woman who is his fated mate time to trust him. Nila is a human with a toddler who is married to an abusive shifter, one who did not care enough about her to mate her. She left him but he is still terrorising her. I loved how sensitive Malachi is to Nila's fear of shifters. He never rushes her. I also loved what a bad ass Malachi can be when it is needed. And I just adore the baby! Great book!
Amazing. I loved Malachi. He knows what Nila needs and strives to give it all and be everything for her. His complete commitment includes Jack. He sees Jack as his son...period. No one and nothing will hurt either Nila or Jack ever again. Lots of action and a great storyline make this a must-read. Highly recommended author and series
This is a book with action, romance, danger, mayhem, suspense, deception and psychotic shifters. In the middle of the craziness is a sweet love building with some red hot sex going on. As usual this is a well written story by one of the best writer's and storytellers...Enjoy this, I always enjoy R.E. Butler!
