Welcome to the Funnel: Proven Tactics to Turn Your Social and Content Marketing up to 11

Rate this book
Raising brand awareness, building trust, establishing credibility, and ultimately driving revenue, that’s what the top of the funnel is all about. It can be a marketer’s “Paradise City”, but without focus, it can quickly become overwhelming. The one-two punch of social media and content marketing is a vital part of any successfully integrated marketing approach. If you are not pairing these two powerhouses together then you are simply missing opportunities to grow your business.

The tactics and strategies in this book have come together through a tremendous amount of research, trial and error, expert input, and real world applications. From startups to enterprise—what’s included here works across the board and can very quickly make an impact.

Just like your favorite double album, this book is separated into four sides, each one addressing a different aspect of Content and Social:

• Content – Why marketers need to change their mentality from creating more content, to more relevant content and three practical ways to create content that delivers a face-melting return on investment.
• Social – Using social to build awareness, trust and drive high quality leads.
• All Together Now – What the future holds for content and social and what it means for marketers.
• The Credits – The essential resources you need to stay on top of trends in content and social media.

No frills, no fluff, just useful, practical tactics, strategies and lessons from one modern marketer to another, with a touch or rock n roll flare.

Rarely have I taken notes so copiously when reading a business-oriented book. Miller is clear, provides (in the Kindle version) many links to other sources, and steps one through the process of developing a system for business success on the internet. There are one or two sections that apply to businesses that already include a fairly large team, rather than to solopreneurs such as myself, but they are easily skipped or learned from. While I have only just finished it, and so have yet to put his process into practice, I fully expect that those who carefully follow the author's recommendations would be successful (provided that their offerings are of good quality, of course). Highly recommended for anyone who is prepared to follow directions and to put in quite a lot of work. Not for the person looking for easy answers and instant success. There is no magic wand.

Great read for people who want to find out what content marketing is and how it works from the inside. I love that the focus is on creating great content which is what I advocate as well but Jason also breaks down the other pieces of what it's like to be a content creator and social media marketer. Trust me, and Jason, it's not as easy as it looks! Jason has had success with real world marketing campaigns so grab a few tricks from his playbook.

I like Jason's content repurpose ideas and the concept of "pre-loved" content. All in all, an easy read containing some interesting ideas I cannot wait to try.

I gave this book a 3 out of 5, not because it didn't contain anything useful, but because the audience tilt was not for me. It narrates through content marketing concepts and strategies with rock music. A perfect tilt for Jason Miller himself, I just wasn't the right audience.

However, if you are a rock music enthusiast who also happens to want to learn about content marketing - this book was literally made for you!

Super quick read. Correlating marketing to turkey dinner was a marketing life changer both for my personal and professional brand. It didn't hurt that the author is a music industry guy turned content marketer, just like myself.

A good explanation of what to do with applying a Funnel to marketing products and/or services.

Jason Miller's book is less interesting than his podcast and webinar.
*This book feels more like a collection of the blog post, lacking clear structure and storyline. Maybe my expectation is too high.
*Nevertheless, the book still offers great insights on content and social marketing, despite being almost 5 years old.. His narrative is also fun to follow.
