A Bridge Through Time was completely enchanting! While I don't have a lot of experience in time travel books and I've never read a Highlander book, I easily found myself addicted to the story. Especially since there was a sprinkling of magic here and there. This book was so much fun and I'm excited to try more books by Jennae Vale!
Ashley realized she was staring at him again, as if he were an apparition, and shook her head impatiently. “It’s nothing really. My name is Ashley, by the way.”
She held out her hand, but instead of shaking it, he merely held it gently in his much larger one. He looked as confused as Ashley felt.
“I’m pleased to meet ye, Ashley Bytheway. I am Cailin MacBayne of the Clan MacKenzie, at yer service.” He lifted her hand to his lips and softly kissed it.

Ashley Moore kept seeing a man appear, that no one else could see. He was Scottish, oh so hot and she felt this strange pull to him. With nothing keeping her in San Francisco, besides a best friend, she travelled to Scotland in hopes of finding her mystery man. She thought that she could be crazy, but her gut led her to Glendaloch, which was the most charming town ever. And so were its townspeople, especially Edna. I loved how there always seemed to be more going on in that little town than her or I could ever grasp. It felt as if there was a magical element in the air, which was a lot of fun. But one day, Ashley found herself face to face with her mystery man, Cailin MacBayne. Plus a whole lot more than she ever could have bargained for.
She smiled up at him and her beauty nearly made his knees buckle. He pulled her close and his lips met hers, in a kiss that said everything he believed they were both thinking and feeling. He was the first one to pull away, albeit unwillingly.
“Good night, Ashley, love,” he murmured. He pressed another brief kiss against her forehead and slipped out the door, before he could talk himself into staying.

Ashley and Cailin met each other in a bang of action. After a life and death situation, and just being together for a few days, they easily formed a strong bond. Underneath that bond they had the most amazing sexual chemistry and it left me breathless. But it wasn't all lust and chemistry because a friendship started between them that warmed my heart. They fit together so seamlessly, it was almost as though they had always been meant for each other. With Ashley being brave, resourceful, selfless and having the hugest heart ever, she complimented Cailin perfectly. Cailin was also brave but his ability to make Ashley laugh and captivate everyone's attention made it hard for Ashley to remember that she should go back home.
He hadn’t wanted to stop kissing her and would likely have taken it much further if they hadn’t been interrupted by the impending storm. Much further than he should. She was a lady, and it was his sworn duty to protect her, even from himself. No matter what his body was telling him, Cailin was determined to treat her with the respect she deserved.

But Ashley was uncertain of her surroundings. Cailin had never heard of America and the way he lived seemed so archaic. Castles, knights, and ladies filled the pages and unbeknownst to her, Ashley had somehow stumbled back into the 16th Century. I loved taking in the sights and their ways of life. But most of all I loved that anytime Ashley and Cailin were together I found myself with butterflies. They had everything from adorable to sexy moments together. It was the perfect mix and oh so addicting!
Desperately, she reached for the belt holding his plaid in place, unbuckled it and sent the plaid sailing to the floor.
“Mmm… that’s convenient,” Ashley murmured breathlessly, as her eyes travelled the length of his completely naked body.
“Aye, ‘tis convenient, indeed,” he said with a wry grin.

There were so many of the side characters that added charm to this book. I found myself loving Cailin's siblings, Cormac and Irene. And Irene's husband, Robert. I even adored Helene, who was a servant in the castle, and I found myself just as invested in her love story. I loved how welcoming they all were to Ashley. And that over time they felt like an extended family to her. But not everything was all fun and happiness. A war was brewing from old grudges and it seemed as though it could not be avoided. While I was nervous for everyone's fate, Ashley had the biggest decision in front of her. To stay here with Cailin, and her newly created family, or to go back to the 21st century.
“I’ll give ye all the time ye need, but be warned, I’m going tae do my best tae convince ye tae stay.” Cailin leaned in and kissed her gently on the lips, caressing her cheek. His eyes never left hers, as he twirled a stray curl of her hair around his finger. “I’ll not make it easy for ye, lass.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to,” she smiled.

A Bridge Through Time was so much fun. The writing was easy to devour, the characters all captivated my attention and I'm excited to see a lot of them in future books. So if you adore romance stories that encompass multiple time periods, and has characters that easily find their way into your heart, then definitely take a look at A Bridge Through Time!

Nope. I didn't get far into this book, but I already know how it's going to go. Every single word I've read has been so predictable and such a clishé. I wish the author would at least be consistant.
First she says that when he looked at her, she felt beautiful and desireable, words she certaily would not use to describe herself any other time. Then, barely a page later "her beautiful brown eyes moved back to look at..." Seriously? You JUST described her as nothing much to look at, and specified that she was no beauty. Make up your mind!
A character can't both be a stunningly beautiful woman we all envy AND a plain and relatable woman we can all empathise with. You have to either pick one, or even better make a complex character that has a little bit of both.
I'm sorry, but the parts of the book that I was able to force myself to read was like something a teenager would dream up in her mind, a complete Mary Sue.

When I first saw this book, I thought it seemed really good. But god was I wrong. Disappointment washed over me as I turned over each page... I felt like I was reading a kid’s story written in secondary school.

First of all, the story and dialogues were very shallow. And second of all, Ashley managed to kill a medivial warrior 5 minutes after she fell into the past 🙈🤷🏼‍♀️ but her love interest - the handsome Cailin (who is from that time By the way), did not manage to kill him?

And third of all, there was no real romance between them (apart from Ashley’s thoughts, and a few flirty lines from Caitlin), but shortly after meeting they kissed as if they had been longing for it forever. 🙈 (Which is why I think there is no real character development, but actually the character development is too quick, which takes away a readers excitement; in other words, the book was too rushed)

Another part that bothered me; Caitlin was not an independent man at all, but relying more on his sister to speak and do things for him. Not attractive. And I felt like more dialogues consisted of Ashley on Cailin’s sister rather than Ashley and Cailin..

The only good thing about the book is that her idea is good itself and creative.

In A Bridge through Time, we meet Ashley Moore, who has hit a few rough spots in life, and who starts seeing a mysterious man all of the sudden. She starts to wonder if she’s losing her mind, or if the man is real. Her quest leads her to Scotland, where she crosses a time-warp bridge and ends up in sixteenth-century Scotland. There she meets Cailin MacBayne, a handsome man who although no stranger to women, has for some reason always managed to stay out of commitment. That changes when he meets Ashley though – she awakens a fire within him he thought has long since perished.

The book combines a lot of storylines, and does so in a seamless way, that makes it look a lot easier than it probably was. Sixteenth-century Scotland is filled with an intriguing list of characters, among them a witch hiding a secret, a knight out for vengeance…then there’s also a war going on, the whole time travel thing. It’s a lot, but the author introduces all parts of the story nicely, and it forms a coherent plot.

The characters were engaging, both in their own way. They went through a lot of emotional turmoil. It was easier to connect with Ashley than to Cailin though, but that seems normal considering he’s from the sixteenth century.

A highly enjoyable novel, recommended to fans of time travel and romance.

I really enjoyed "A Bridge Through Time. It is a pleasantly surprising light heart and predictable time travel fantasy romance.

Ashley Moore is losing her mind. She keeps dreaming and seeing vision of a grey man. Ashley has just broken up with her boyfriend Dax. She decides to travel to Scotland being pulled by the vision the the grey eyed Scot. She is staying at a Inn The Thistle and Hive run by Edna Campbell a Witch!!

I loved Edna and all the characters in the story. Once Jenna crosses a foggy bridge she whines up in the year 1514 and right in the arms of they grey eyed Scot Cailin MacBayne. Cailin is hurt after trying to save Ashely .

Cailin is the perfect Scotsman and his puzzlement of Ashley's dress and speech is funny. They do make a lovely couple.

The problem I had with the story is it is predictable. There is noting knew about the storyline. The biggest problem for me was the brutal abuse the heroine Ashley suffered at the hands of her kidnappers. It went to far. Beating strangling and attempted rape is never a good way for an author to get there word cout up. That part was disappointing.

Omg, so cheesy. The summary had potential but the reality was too much to bear. Every interaction between characters was cheesy and shallow.. (Shallow as in it lacked any real depth or genuine feeling).. It was just bad. Ina related side note, I can't stand when it's narrated in the main characters voice but then they like describe themselves as beautiful.. For example this is in the voice of Ashly, but one chapter starts with her beautiful amber eyes filled with tears.. So if that was out loud instead of a descriptive thought from her head it would have been 'my beautiful amber eyes are filling with tears'?? It just seems weird to me.. It's always bugged me, but usually signifies a writing style I don't make it far in to anyway.

It’ll do - RECOMMEND

The writing is so bad especially at the beginning. I kept on because I didn’t have anything else to read in it’s place. I skimmed and skipped through and found it was passable. There were events and happenings that were explained and others that were not that required it. The later were obviously written as a convenience to move the story along. It’s not really a three star book but there is a scene that actually brought tears to my eyes and so I had to give that a star for evoking real emotion.
SEX SCENES - Yes, one fully developed and it was good. The others are alluded to without detail. Lots of kissing and touching.

I really enjoyed this time traveler book. I haven't read one in a while and this one while a bit odd at times was very well done. I thought the characters, the way they spoke, carried themselves and all was done very well.

It was an easy fun read with some steamy parts added into it. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

I would recommend this if you are looking for an easy read, that doesn't get you too emotionally wrapped up and is entertaining.

When I first read the description of this book I was captivated by the idea of the storyline. The cover was also a key factor that caught my eye drawing me to the possibility of discovering a new author. Once I started reading the story, I began to get a sense of disappointment but continued on, hoping that I would be sucked into the characters, the time period and the overall romance. For me this book missed its mark. I felt like I was always on the surface of a really good book, but the author was unable to pull me into it's depths. There were too many characters with sideline stories that pulled me away from Ashley and Cailen. I felt like this book was written only to set up the premise for the rest of the books to come, and in doing so it took away from the romance between the main characters. If you are looking for a quick read at the beach or on vacation, this book is the one. If you are looking for characters that come to life, draw you into their world and touch upon all your emotions you may be disappointed. Still, I will give this series one more shot once the second book is released and see if the author can capture my attention.

Pleasant enough.

Ashley Moore's life hasn't been going so well recently. Her boyfriend dumped her and she has no job. She has been having some strange dreams of a grey eyed man. A very good looking man. She is an orphan and financially independent so she decides to take a needed vacation. For some reason she is drawn to Scotland and, once there, follows her instincts which lead her to the village of Glendaloch. Once there she goes hiking and crosses a bridge which has a strange must hovering over it. Once across she meets Cailin and from then on there's a lot of fighting and making of new friends and falling in love. But the question, of course, is should she stay or should she go back to the 21st century.
This is a pretty standard travel back in time and meet the Scotsman of your dreams but the bridge is a novel change.

I actually listened to the audible version of this book. This book is another 'Outlander Lite' story. We meet a young woman who is seeing a man, then he disapears. She finally follows him from America to Scotland. There she rents a room and is taken under the wing of the kindly inn keepers wife. When she goes on a picnic, everything she could ever need is packed with her by the kind woman,as if she knows what the outcome will be.It is a fun story and a good read.
Paul Woodson narrates this beautifully. He does both men and womens voices flawlessly.

If we read fiction to escape into other worlds, then Jennae Vale has written an intriguing world tailor-made for just such an escape. Like her protagonist, Ashley, we are initially teased with the elusive image of a handsome stranger, then led from America to Scotland only to be lured across a mist-veiled bridge into danger, romance, and life in a remote Scottish castle with one catch—it’s the sixteenth century. Readers who loved Diana Gabaldon will enjoy this entertaining tale with its lovable characters, mystical subplots, and strong romance between a spirited young woman and the brawny Scottish Highlander determined to have her.

I hate to give this a lower rating because I like the couple in this story more than probably any time travel romance I've ever read, BUT...(deep breath)

There.is.no.antagonist.

Seriously!

It's really weird. Like, Ashley herself is *kind of* her own antagonist, but she doesn't even give herself a good run for her money. She gets interesting once - when she sees Cailin hugging a beautiful blonde that turns out to be his friend - and kind of storms off. We had an opportunity there for action and - HEY, AN ANTAGONIST! - but she has kind of a basic G-rated conversation with Cailin's brother on the beach before Cailin gets jealous and drags her back to the castle.

Womp womp.

The beginning was awesome and I loved the interaction between them while they traveled to get to the castle. That was honestly the most interesting part of the story. It just kind of got boring after that considering everyone was cardboard cut-out perfect and totally friendly, no one was suspicious of her or causing any trouble, AND EVERYONE WAS TOTALLY COOL WITH HER BEING A TIME TRAVELER, BTW.

She literally didn't even have to deal with a witch hunt or her love interest thinking she's nuts or anyone else trying to manipulate the situation or anything. Cailin told everybody without her permission and she was like, "He's so hot. Everyone's nice. It's cool."

WUT.

Also, after keeping a good head on her shoulders and not hopping in the sack with Hottie McScot ASAP for 60% of the book, she and Cailin finally decide they "have" to sleep together because...
A) They're young and hot and they've already been cock-blocked once, so no more false starts, dammit!
B) There's literally nothing else going on in the story

And the next morning, they're discovered by his brother and her maid and when the family finds out, everyone's cheering and winking at them like WAYTOGOKIDS? YAY THE SEX! I had to stop reading when she got weirdly happy that the Laird wasn't angry about the behavior under his roof and Cailin could hop into bed with her again without consequence.

THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS. THAT'S NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS.

How are they "so in love" but he takes her to bed without proposing marriage and that was a huge party foul in the 16th century. I mean, if she's giving up the 21st century for him, you'd think he could marry her since they're "meant to be" and there's a looming battle and he haunted her in San Fransisco.

description

Then again, plot-wise it was way too convenient for her not to go back since she had no family left. She just lost her job and she was a trust fund baby, so she didn't even struggle because of that. So we never get that inner battle about whether she should stay or not because nothing is pulling her back across time. She randomly mentions going home but her heart isn't in it, so it reads like she's trying to decide if she should wear her hair up or down that day.

I don't know. Maybe I'm being too nit-picky here. I could be. Personally, I just needed more conflict and some consequence to keep it interesting. As a couple, they don't really deal with any major problem, so I like them but I don't feel invested because they don't overcome much of anything to get each other.

I was really bummed about this one in case you can't tell.

This was a very good book about Ashley Moore, who has lost her job, and her boyfriend. She begins to have visions of a man, who is a highlander, right out, of the history books. She decides to follow her heart, and since her parents are both deceased, and she has a trust to live off of, she makes a rash decision for herself. She follows her feelings, and heads to Scotland. Her intuition just seems to lead her, and the vision appears more life like the farther she goes. She finally stops for the night at a cozy little inn, and feels like the older couple are connected to all this. She feels a sense of belonging. I will not give any more details, incase you wish to read this sweet story. The story line was good, and I loved the characters, but it needed more detail. I. felt the back ground was just okay. There was no real history given about the clan who finds her, and even the gowns were just described as green, and lovely. The author really did not make you feel ,like you were experiencing that time in history, except for the battles. It was a sweet love story, and the story had a villain , or two. The few things that really showed, was she did nothing with her trust, even when she had the chance, and when someone is arrested in today's society, and charged there was no court hearing. The witness never even went to the police station. It was a little light, in the details that made me give it a four. It also has a few steamy scenes, but not over done, and easily skipped.

DNF around chapter 5.

"She had walked to her car with apprehension, a little jumpy, a little edgy. Then as she sat behind the steering wheel..."

Why? Because it was nighttime? Bad day? Where is she??

"He dressed oddly, not in jeans and a t-shirt like most guys she knew, but in a kilt. She didn’t have any expertise when it came to kilts, because she hadn’t seen many, but this one didn’t appear to be the kind you might buy off the rack."

You can tell all of this by looking at someone who's standing in front of your car when you're already feeling jumpy and edgy?

"His feet were covered by boots of the softest leather."

How TF did she know this?? HE WAS STANDING IN FRONT OF HER CAR. You know what she couldn't have seen based on the described scenario? HIS FEET. And even if she could see his feet, you don't know how those shoes feel by looking at them!

This was just in the first few chapters. I could go on with more examples. So much telling and very little showing. It's a poorly written book, a poorly edited book, or both. I'm flabbergasted that it has such good reviews, but I guess I should have noted that it's only out of 1,273 ratings.

A love story across time

Absolutely wonderful story of finding love across time. For quite some time, Ashley'd been seeing images of a breathtakingly handsome man, in her dreams and when she was wide awake. A host of changes in Ashley's life sent her on a trip to Scotland where she knew this strange man might be found. Drawn to places she'd never known, she embarks on a life changing journey that would take her 500 years in the past to find the man of her visions and love of her life. Adventure Romance Battles ... Easy fast passed book you don't want to end. You will want to buy the rest of the series; I know I will.

Loved it!

Really enjoyed this book, nothing happened very surprising but it was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon! The characters were great and the description of them was good however they could have been flushed a little further -perhaps they will be in the series. I loved the bridge and got idea, that seemed to be an original idea and the inn caretakers were lovely. I am anxious to get to the next book!!!

A sweet and enjoyable time-travel romance

Ashley was two-dimensional in the beginning but her actions in the 1500s developed her into an interesting, believable character. Cailin's development is similar. The believable development of their relationship is engaging. The lives of the clan and those in the castle are realistically shown with believable detail. The land and buildings are beautifully described.

Everything in a book you could want.

Jennae Vale has written a story jam packed with the lot. A feisty heroine, a sexy knee melting hero, villains and a healthy dose of time traveling.

I adore tales of time travels and history and this ranks up with the very best.

The one and only issue I have is I wanted more. Its brilliant

This is a nice time travel romance set in Scotland. Both the hero and heroine have old hurts and a battle they have to overcome in order to be together in historical Scotland. There are plenty of other characters whose stories I need to read. Looking forward to reading them.

A Peek of Medieval Scotland!

A great read! The story was great and exciting. The scottish accent made it hard to understand some words, though. In the first few chapters, I had to adjust to the way the characters talk. At around chapter 10, it became easier to understand their words.

Overall, it's an awesome story ☺
