A single instinctive act of heroism to save a princess leads a young man into a life that he could not have imagined. Brought into the life of knights, fair maidens, and kings, Conner finds himself outcast and alone. But under the tutelage of an old man from a far-off land, Conner begins to learn skills that even the fabled Knights of Karmon could not match. But as the nefarious plans of the evil Lord Neffenmark come to fruition, he finds himself embroiled in the deadly politics and forces far beyond the borders of his little kingdom. Knight Fall begins the first chapter in the life of Conner, a simple peasant who dares to affect change upon the world.
Brad Clark grew up in the modestly sized city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, but now resides in a small town in the southwest corner of Michigan. He works as a software engineer in a local family-owned software company.
Reading and writing has always been his passion, but the stories that were jotted down into piles of notebooks never made it beyond a chapter or two. But after much nagging from his wife and kids, he broke down and published his first novel as an e-book. His love for the fantasy genre started when he was a young boy and had never left. That love for swords and sorcery grew into an idea for a story, and that story become his second novel, Knight Fall, book one of the series of books called the Champion Chronicles.
As much as he has a passion for reading and writing, Brad is also an avid road bicyclist and runner. Springtime is running season as he prepares for an annual half-marathon. Summer, though, is his favorite time where he can spend hours in saddle, riding his bike on quiet back country roads.
With five kids, three still at home, writing is purely a hobby, a way to escape from the business of life. His stories come from his love of the genre and from his heart. Whether the stories work for the rest of the world is not why he writes, he writes because he simply wants to put his dreams on paper. He never wants his writing to be work, he only desires it to be a fun hobby and hopes that others can share in his stories.
Arghhh! I despise a cliffhanger, especially when it doesn't even end at a solid spot.
Lots of weird conflicts for me. The writing style was mostly stiff (as in contractions apparently haven't been invented yet), but then there are bizarrely modern words and phrases. "You guys?" Really?
Elissa was annoyingly spoiled, clueless, and fickle. Connor had a bad inability to control his anger or jealousy. Yeah, he kills arseholes but not in a heroic way. More like an out-of-control serial killer. Even the king is strangely weak (when he's not dead from hustling off to war without a clue). The most beloved knight is a traitor, the Knights and castle guard have a petty feud ongoing, and then the odd eastern swordmaster keeps getting all religious on us. Like Jesus freak religious. Quite a bummer in the midst of everything else.
It's weird. With some polishing, it might be better but it just missed for me. Besides all my other complaints, I got a heavy Princess Buttercup-Farm Boy vibe. Will Connor come back as the dread pirate Roberts? Alas, I'll never know as I'll be giving the sequel a miss unless I stumble into it as another freebie.
I appreciate the ideas and the world but it just feels flat. Attribution to the writing style or the character development. Its easy to be a reader and hard to be a writer. This is a solid effort for a new author, I really hope he continues to write and doesn't give up. Ideas are good, just needs more seasoning as a writer and character creator
Very good start, time will tell just how good. Cliffhanger!
A few rather well good upon tropes and archetypes, somewhat predictable, but enjoyable. I could have done with a bit more character development. The description is on the sparse side. Cliffhanger that is a bit annoying, but a large enough book that I didn't feel cheated. I have already bought the first five books in the series.
First story I've read from this author. The story is first of a series. I had just finished reading "Thornbear," a series with a similar storyline. That was unfortunate since Michael Manning, "Thornbear" author, is brilliant and Brad Clark, this book's author, is good. It took a while for me to lower my expectations, but once I got far enough into the story I thoroughly enjoyed it. [POSSIBLE SPOILER FOLLOWS] This is the story of a peasant huntsman who saves a princess and seems to be a central playing piece in a war between the One God and the Advocate/Deceiver. While it takes most of the story for this to become evident, I don't think knowing this up front spoils the story. Nonetheless, I'm marking this review with a spoiler alert.

Amazing story. Great character development (well physical anywhere.) It could have been such an amazing book, if I didn't hate all the characters. YES!!! All. Everyone one in the book cant makeup their mind.. when i say everyone i mean Everyone. ( well maybe not the emperor, but we only got him in one scene.) otherwise every other character was whiny.
Take the main protagonist Connor. He's whole existence revolves around. "I should leave" no "I want to stay and protect the princess". "I don't fit in" "Im her champion". My dude, make up your mind. Just saying.
Pretty good story, characters are likeable enough, but a little flat. Liked it enough to read a sequel, but not great. The characters, dialogue, and just writing in general seemed just a little off. Kinda like listening to someone tell a story and you think they're telling it all wrong, or a movie that you liked and were disappointed because it could have been so much better. That sounds a little harsh, but it was a decent read with a good enough storyline to make me want to find out what happens next. And a complete story which I appreciate with an actual ending and no stupid cliffhanger or abrupt ending, will read the next installment.
Since becoming disabled my reading hobby has become my daily ritual. I have read over 300 books in just the last year. And of all those books this book had the most straight forward story line and yet just enough questions left at the end to want to read the next book. Here's hoping for a few more twists and turns. And though I didn't dock my review any there were the usual need to have someone double check the writing for missing words mostly. Keep your hobby going, it will be the best parts of my hobby.
I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next one. However, Microsoft Word would show a mass of squiggly lines if put in that format. Wrong words throughout, even mistakes in the characters names. I get a lot of use out of my kindle unlimited subscription, but I wish they required some sort of proofreading before publishing.
A wonderful read that kept me wanting more. The author has done a great job of keeping you interested by leading you along and changing things just when you thought you knew what was going to happen next.
Entertaining read - look forward to sequel. Standard formula involving unlikely boy peasant becoming an exceptional warrior and getting involved with royalty.
Maybe not the best book I have ever read, still I enjoyed it. I found a few editing errors, which disappointed me. I would be interested in reading the sequel.
