Simple, quick, high heat novella with a single mom trope. It wasn’t a bad read, just a very predictable one, which isn’t a bad thing.
Cord is a single firefighter who is living single life to the fullest. He has absolutely no desire to be tied down and keeps his bed warm with one night stands. One non-negotiable, no single moms.
Lucy is back on the dating scene, working hard to take care of her little boy on her own…dating is definitely not on her radar. But when sweet ole granny drags her to the firefighter auction and buys her a date with the hot shot , Cord…she decides to allow herself one night of fun. What could happen, right ?
One night of passion and these two are deciding that maybe there’s more between them than just a quick hookup. But when Lucy reveals she has a son, Cord instantly pulls back which obviously breaks Lucy’s heart.
Eventually Cord realises that what he really wants is Lucy and her little boy. Realising that he was content with single life simply because he hadn’t found the right one yet 🧡

This one was a quick read 😊
Lucy is a hardworking, teacher, single mom, raising her son all by herself. Her grandma thinks she needs some fun, so she drags her to the firefighter auction and buys her a date. A date with the hot, sexy firefighter Cord.
Cord is enjoying his life. He is loving his bachelor life. And he loves dating around, and he stays away from single moms. Till a grandma buys him as a date for her granddaughter. Meeting Lucy he feels like maybe there can be more, until he finds out that she is a single mom and he starts pulling away from her.
Cord and Lucy were definitely not looking to get involved, but I think they found each other at just the right time. Story was good, easy read and you will definitely get lost in their story from the start to the end.

Firefighter Cord "Hollywood" thought when he was won at an fundraising auction, that he'd have one date with the winner, then move on in his no commitment style. Boy was he wrong...because the older woman who won him? She did it for her granddaughter Lucy, and Lucy has gotten under Cord's skin. Now he's realizing he wants everything with this single mom, even though he always swore he'd never date anyone with kids. Having grown up the way he did, he knew (thought) he'd never be a good dad or be good with children. But now he's seeing just how wrong he was...
Being a mom is Lucy's greatest joy, and her son is obviously her first priority, but getting to spend one night on a date has her realizing she has needs too. The sweet guy she went on the date with, sure he was won in a charity auction by her grandma, but they had a connection. Too bad that once he realized she was a mom, his reaction said it all. Or did it? Maybe that connection can withstand Cord's misperception of himself. Maybe they really can have it all.
Lucy and Cord are so sweet together. Cord sure had an inaccurate conception of himself - the sweet way he was with her adorable son showed he was far more than just some guy who wasn't good with kids. And Lucy, typical of single moms, had never saw to own dreams, her own needs, until Cord showed up and became her rock. Huckleberry Creek just got that much more interesting with this adorable couple, I'm looking forward a lot to more now.

Firefighter Cord Gaffney was magazine perfect, hiding his true asset, a kind heart. His obvious charm and quiet depth held the potential for a love to be envied. Schoolteacher and single mom Lucy Sullivan made lemonade out of the lemons life handed her. Focused on raising her son by herself Lucy had little time to look for love.
When Lucy won a date orchestrated by her matchmaking grandmother with Cord at a charity auction the sparks flew. A date without all the emotional baggage this pair carried highlighted all the things they both yearned for in a partner. When reality hit Cord and Lucy both took steps back at the implications of what being together meant. This couple ultimately fought against their natural inclinations to flee and as a result they were able to get the HEA they both wanted but never felt like they deserved. This pair's attraction to each other was as irresistible as it was genuine. Fun and serious interactions were nicely mixed into this work by Ms. Flynn for a balanced story.
The comradery and mostly comedic exchanges with the secondary cast in this work added a lighthearted nuance that kept this book from being overly intense. There were lots of memorable moments and stand out characters that kept this work moving quickly.
Kait Flynn did a wonderful job of creating a small town atmosphere with appealing portrayals. Her ability to pack a lot of content in a short story made her work feel fully fleshed out and satisfying. Sweet and spicy Kait Flynn's One Night Flame is the perfect date night with a book!

When her grandmother drags her out to the firefighter auction, she seems all out of sorts. Worse so when she realizes what grandma has up her sleeve.

This was the perfect length novella for reading in one sitting - enough story and characters to keep you hooked, but not bogged down in extra detais and characters you don't need.
If you haven't read the Heros of Huckleberry Creek, you absolutely should do as these guys are from the same town and made an appearance in the last book.
Lucy is a single mum just trying to keep her head above water when her grandma 'wins' her a date at the firefighter charity auction. She thinks it will be a one night thing, but Cord is hooked and wants more.
Cord is a confirmed bachelor, having not had the best childhood he doesn't think he'd be the best influence for a child.... but seriously, this just made him so much more loveable. He was the sweetest, most fun-loving guy I've read in a while - green flags all the way!
Such a sweet, easy read, I will be reading this again for all the feel-good vibes.
I'm looking forward to meeting all the other guys from the fire station as the series continues.

Cord is a firefighter who's also kind of a jokester, but uses it as a shield. He knows what he wants and doesn't want, and that's to be tied down. When he's asked to MC the annual Bachelor Auction, he always says yes, because, of course, he's charming like that. But this year is about to knock him for a loop because the older lady who bought him did so for her granddaughter. Now he has to figure out a date with her and move on. Lucky has been through it as a single mom; she's just trying to survive everything that has been thrown at her. Her main goal is her son and making sure he's happy, healthy, and stays in one piece. When her grandmother buys a date for her, she's hesitant, but when she meets Cord, something sparks. They get along so well, but he doesn't know about her son, and she's trying to protect their hearts. When a chance meeting and a cold knock them all for a fiery loop, they have to decide if the burn is worth it. I loved how they both came out of their shells and how they were trying to be as open as possible.

Lucy hasn’t dated since her ex left her alone to raise their toddler four years ago. After one man left she doesn’t trust that they won’t all leave. So Lucy more than enjoys her date knowing it is a one time thing.
Firefighter Cord Gaffney doesn’t date much and he definitely doesn’t date single moms. After growing up with a dad that left and a mom that couldn’t care less about him he doesn’t want to mess up any kid.

I love a good bachelor auction, and that’s how this story starts. Especially one where the sexy firefighter is “bought” by a meddling grandmother for her single mom granddaughter! Cord is a willing participant, but he’s not into single moms. Not that he knows Lucy is when they go on their date. A rather steamy-ending date! But he also didn’t expect the feelings to develope once he finds out she does have a child.
Lucy, for her part, doesn’t have time to date, while raising a young son and working as a teacher of other young children. She’s not expecting this date to go anywhere, so when Cord is shocked but not deterred from the little family of two, she surprised s well.
This sweet and sexy story was a fast read but so very enjoyable. I love Lucy and Cord, not to mention cute little Liam. And the town of Huckleberry Creek has a cast of citizens I can’t wit to learn more about. One Night Flame was a great start to this new series; I’m looking forward to the next story!

One Night Flame is firefighter Cord aka Hollywood and single mum Lucy’s well written and entertaining story. This is the book One in the Hot Shots of Huckleberry Creek Series. I love small town romance and single parent stories and this novella did not disappoint.
When Hollywood volunteered for a bachelor charity auction he had no idea he would be won by a grandmother who was about to change his life by introducing him to her granddaughter and single mum Lucy.
From the moment Lucy and Hollywood meet they have a connection but having children was not in his plans so how will he react when feelings come into play. Will Hollywood decide a ready made family is the future……
This was a quick read but it still packed a mighty punch, I loved the characters and the residents of Huckleberry Creek and everything in between.

I truly enjoyed reading this story and just loved the chemistry and relationship between Cord & Lucy. It was a short read but I definitely loved the single parent book which is one of my favorite genre's to read. Cord also had a certain charm about him that mixed well with the single mom Lucy. Can't wait to see what happens next in this series!

I was excited to read One Night Flame which was well written with characters whose story you cannot help but fall for.

From the moment they meet, there are sparks. However, learning that she is a single mum, he is concerned as he has never had plans to have children.
What follows was a story that held me captive from the first paragraph to the last.

A quick read, cute story.
When Cord Gaffney's fire station decides to have a bachelor charity auction he's all in. His nickname is Hollywood and he's already for a show. What he's not expecting is to get bid on by a grandmother and then to find out it's for a date with the granddaughter.
Lucy Sullivan is 25 and a single mom to a six year old little boy Liam. She's also an elementary school teacher.
Lucy and Cord hit it off on their date night and spend the night together and he stayed till the morning, something he never does.
When a class field trip to the fire station reveals she's a mom, he's taken back. He has always sworn never to date and get involved with a single mom.
Will he walk away?

Kait Flynn has a brand new book out and y'all this was a short and sweet little romance. One Night Flame introduces readers to Cord and Lucy, and you don't want to miss these two or their super cute story. From their first moments they had to the very last page, these two had me hooked on their journey. A fast read that was packed with heart, heat, and allllll of the feels! And a wrap up that'll leave a big ol' smile on your face.
This was my first go with Kait and definitely a great way to be introduced. I'll definitely be back.
I can definitely recommend this book.

Simply awesome
Spin off series from Huckleberry Creek. This series involves the firefighters from book 4 of Heroes of Huckleberry Creek. Up first, Cord, aka Hollywood. He's the emcee at the charity bachelor auction and its first victim. His winner was a grandma, but she didn't win him for herself. Nope, she won him for her granddaughter, Lucy.
Their date was awesome but one problem, Lucy is a single mom, and Cord doesn't date single mothers due to his own troubled childhood.
But of course he is instantly smitten with the mom and her son when he helps them when they get sick.
Wonderful characters, beautiful storyline, small town romances, and more.

This was a wonderful novella about a single mom and a guy who makes it a point to stay away from single moms. After a date night set up at an auction, things may have gone too far for him to stay away this time.
Lucy was a great single mom, always putting her son first. I loved that she got a chance at happiness for herself. Cord turned out to be the perfect guy for her, even if he didn't believe it himself to start ot with.
A perfect quick read when you need a little love story with some steam!

Lucy and Cord—she’s a single mom who teaches at the elementary school; he’s a firefighter. When her grandma bids for him at the firefighter bachelor auction so Lucy can feel like her own person rather than a mom or a teacher, they both feel a strong spark. His rule, though, is that he doesn’t go out with single moms. So when he realizes she has a son, he freezes. And then he shows up at her house, only to find them both sick. And everything changes and they start their HEA. The writing is a little disjointed in places but the story works, even though it’s short.

Of course, there's lots of chemistry. This is a very sweet story of found family and a man realizing that he doesn't have to be defined by his past.

If you love sexy Firefighters and Strong, Sassy women you'll love this book as much as I did!
Cord aka Hollywood thought he was broken and couldn't be fixed! Lucy and her adorable son were the superglue that fixed him! Oh my! Chemistry from jump, real life drama and everything you absolutely didn't know you needed in a story is right here!
I loved it from page one and did not want it to end!

Having children was not in Cord’s plans, so he’s not sure how to handle the fact when he learns Lucy is a mom. With advice from his squad mates, he just might be able to a handle a ready-made family; with Lucy and her son.
This was a fun, quick read, with wonderful characters, the residents of Huckleberry Creek, and everything in between. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Cord has convinced himself that his childhood disqualifies him from family life. He prefers to keep everything light and insubstantial. But everything changes when Lucy's grandmother buys Lucy a date with Cord for a crazy amount of money. They hit it off immediately, but Cord doesn't know Lucy is a single mom. I liked these characters. They help each other be their best selves.

who doesn’t love firemen?
Wasn’t sure what to expect of this new series. Was not sure “Hollywood” would be a fit for anyone. Turns out, he wasn’t sure either. But in true first responder fashion, he saves the day (and he even does laundry?). You will have to read it to find out why! Can’t wait for the rest of the series.

Perfect setup
Lucy's grandma bid on Cord at the firefighter's auction for Lucy. She's a single mom and Cord doesn't date single moms. But he doesn't know that Lucy has a six year old son. When he finds out, will he run or stick around? This is a heartwarming story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

One Night Flame is an easy read, with some steaming parts, but above all is a story about family, motherhood, taking second chances in relationships and believing that women/men are able to hold several roles at the same time. The story has romance, humor, and relatable characters in daily life situations. Entertaining!

This one was so fine!
Just two adults building a relationship, no real big drama or breakup in act three 🤩
Also the way it’s written - fun, very realistic - is great writing!
Maybe not a new classic but at least a nice read for when you need something easy with a little sugar 🤓

Trashy Book
This book would have been better without the boring sex scene. The overall plot was stupid and not realistic. I skimmed through much of the book after that scene. I suggest ironing would be more entertaining.

This was a good one. The alpha male likes kids, good causes, and one night stands, until he meets Lucy. But when inner turmoil threatens to destroy a good thing, he comes to his senses. The story is sweet with a fair amount of heat, kinda like making candy.
