When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy three-year-old with Tetralogy of Fallot, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.

I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego, Lolita Lopez, who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.

Now I know why everyone seems to dislike serials.
It was too short to enjoy.

I read it free thanks to Amazon Unlimited.

Seriously, this book was 4 chapters. Good setup and world building. I liked Emma....didn't really feel Jack or Max. They were a bit cardboard to me.

The story is post zombie-apocalypse in Texas. Emma has been living on her own for the past 4 years since her father passed. She is 21 or 22 and a healthy virgin. Excellent with firearms and electronics. Her family escaped the zombie apocalypse by moving out of the city onto a farm. They were part of the separatists that dislike/feared government control found in the safer cities.

The farm is defended mainly by an electronic fence.
Emma is checking the fence to keep plants free from touching it and catching fire when she hears gunshots within the nearby forest.
She blows her fog-horn & two big cyborgs run out of the forest towards her compound. She shoots the zombies chasing after the two cyborg and allows the men into her farm/compound.

For Jack and Max it's love at first sight - but they're assholes alphas and they don't even try to woo Emma. They decide for Emma that she needs to move to the city & military base with them.
She argues, so they plot to seduce her into wanting to come with them. The sex scene wasn't quite as good as I've come to expect from Lolita Lopez. (wiping tear) It didn't stink though.

there is a M/M relationship implied, but nothing more than kissing on that front.

As they are all laying in bed enjoying post-coital bliss, when zombies attack the fence knocking out the electricity, end of book 1.

Recommended only after all of them have come out!

Ok....This serial is not finished!!
I brought this on Amazon, knowing it was a serial. I love the concept and wanted to start it immediately. I enjoyed everything about this storyline...the post apocalyptic world zombies, the Cyborgs, the menage between Max, Emma and Jack. But then when I finished the book (it was quite short), I found out ONLY Part one and two out of five were available. Part three was due to be release in 13 January 2015. By the time this author releases the other parts of this story, I'll probably have forgotten what the book's about.:(

I did like this but for me to read one after the other....I think I will wait until the whole series comes out because it says a new part will be released every 3 weeks or so. That not been true so far. I COULD read part 2 but if too much time goes by I will forget the story and I will be left feeling confused. LOL. I know release dates aren't always accurate but its been awhile and I know Ms. Lopez has suffered a health issue due to it but I think I will wait for the whole series before continuing.

Now my review...I loved this world. It was very interesting the whole zombie, cyborg, human thing. Its a great story and good plot and characters. I can't wait to read more. I would like to know more about Jack and Max and their relationship and history. There were a few typos. One thing that didnt make sense to me is how easily she got so distracted by Max and Jack that she essentially forgot her safety protocols which leads to a breach. I dunno...seemed kinda flawed. I look forward to reading the whole series when it comes out.

So... I wasn't really in the mood to read this, but I read it.
Not nearly as good as I'm used to from Lolita Lopez/Roxie Rivera/whatever else name she's going by now.

Emma was.... perfect.
The boys were pretty... cardboardish as someone else said.

There was instalove. I mean serious instalove.
Boys saw Emma. Decided she was perfect and needed saving and would come back with them.

I think also the mix of cyborgs and zombies just felt a little forced to me.

I will however hunt down the rest of the serial, so as to give it a fair shake.

I did not know this was an unfinished serial when I started. Grrrrr!!! But I won't let that ruin my review (despite how much that sucks!!!). I usually avoid unfinished serials but this is one of my favourite authors. Oh well.
Our MCs live in some kind of post apocalyptic world where humans and cyborgs live behind heavily armed fortifications to keep the zombies at bay. The author lets little tid bits drop now and then that help flesh out what happened and what life is like in the here and now. Emma has been going it alone on her small fortified farm for 4 years since her father died. The zombies have been getting worse lately and all her neighbours are worried. Her and her neighbours share a need for independence and also an ingrained fear of cyborgs and anything associated with the zombie apocalypse. But who should come running towards her electrified fence chased by a crowd of zombies, but a couple of sexy cyborgs. Go figure, lol. You can pretty much guess the rest. But Emma is a strong character and as in previous books I've read by this author, misunderstandings aren't left to fester. Jack and Max (the sexy cyborgs) are super hot and they (of course) want Emma to come back with them to their safer outpost that has more people and a town. The serial keeps things interesting with the progress of her relationship with Jack and Max, hot sex, crazy zombies (nothing too gory though) and tantalizing whiffs of mystery and conspiracy. Each installment is about 160 pages. But you have to consider that 5 books at 160 pages each will rival 'War and Peace'... Just saying...

This is the first Zombie book I've read and I picked it at random. I've seen a few episodes of The Walking Dead so was quite prepared for humanity under siege, headshots, even the idea of evolving Zombies.
And, at the start all was well in my world - Emma lives alone on her family's farm which is surrounded by an electrified fence. She's a crack shot and has enough weaponry to keep her fighting for weeks.
During an inspection of the fence she hears gunfire, guides the two shooters towards her, disposes of several Zombies and lets the two Cyborgs in.
And this is where the book goes to hell in a handbasket. Jack and Max are a bisexual couple and looking for a mate ... it's ménage time.
I get that it is a serial but I didn't sign up for a threesome :)
P.S. Having read a bit of book 2 in the series, it comes together a bit better but it still lacks grittiness - that's the problem with romance in the middle of horror.

Hmmm. I saw this was on someone else's list and it was highly rated. Romance plus zombies? Sounds good to me.

This book (really the first segment in a serial) is ok. Some sex, (2 boys--simply shocking *eye roll) but even with that added flavor it's very tame. I like Emma, mostly. I mean, I want to like her. She has been living all alone in her stockade surviving the zombies. Plus there are cyborgs, and I have never ventured down the cyborg / human romance path. But something was missing, and it kept it from getting to the "3 star good book" rating for me. I think it was because of the serialized format. We don't get enough insight into Emma, her life, really any of it.

Small taste of what could be good with lots of interesting pieces to it. Overall, underwhelmed. 2 stars, but since I am a masochist I will read the second installment.

This author is a superb writer! The story line is interesting and tight, world building and character development is really good. This is not your run of the mill post-apoc zombie book (I happen to love post-apoc and am ok with zombie)!

This book was an awesome read. It has everything, a great well plotted, believable story that moves smoothly, lots of twists and turns , three dimensional characters, not to mention great sex. While I am not a fan of serials, I am willing to make an exception with this author because Ms. Lopez can write!!! Over all I rated the book at 4 and give it a sexy rating of 5 (a la LaDeet). I have already bought and read the other 2 books and am anxious for much more. This author bears close watching because she has a great deal of talent and promise! You go Lo.

Good start to a new series

This story was good. I like the post-apocalyptic feel, with the zombies and survivalist setting. I liked Max and Jack's complementing personalities. I liked Emma's independence. The sex was pretty hot, though I don't care foe the fact that this is more mmf than mfm, though there were no graphic scenes with Jack and Max. Can't wait for the next installment.

Ok, this is part one of a series and I don't particularly care for serials but it's got zombies and cyborgs and menage. I'm so there.

I'm excited for this series. Great setup in the first book and an ending that made me crave more. I just want it all NOW!

*EDIT*

Series is still not finished. I've only read the first 2 parts and I won't be reading anymore till the series is complete. I know the author has had health issues and I hope she's able to finish the series up soon.

Interesting world building with some great character set up, this was a fun read, and I'm invested in Emma, Max, and Jack.
The twist on evolving zombies is intriguing and different, and I'm excited to find out what's going on.
The ménage is my absolute favorite kind, where the two men are involved as well.
As this is a serial, we don't get too far into the story before it ends, but the primary conflict/action scene is resolved before a new one is set up for book 2.

Suprisingly...good. I usually tend to shy away from the whole zombie thing-REALLY not my style. However, something about this book called to me, and who am I to ignore the siren call of a well written book? ;-) I was expecting to sneer my way through this book, and call it quits early. To my utter shock, I CONSUMED it and went back for seconds. I really liked it! I am hoping the third is out soon, I am hooked.

Okay, you've got some of my favorites - cyborgs, zombies, distopian world plus hot sex. What else can you ask for? Well more chapters. Or the serial to be made into one book. The 2nd would probably be the best. Even with that, I loved the beginning of this series and the ending was great. Can't wait to read the next one - in fact, I'll do it right now.

It sounded really good and the opening was promising. Unfortunately, it just didn't flow like I was expecting. I read this in 30 min and seemed shorter than it was. I know this is a serial but I expected to have some emotional connection. I did not, especially in the time I had to read this. Fantastic premise though and if it had more words and depth I would go back to this story.

Didn't like this

It started off okay but the cyborgs were condescending. All the chances she took outside the fence seemed stupid. I didn't like that she felt they'd set her up and she was a commodity. For someone taught that they were dangerous she seemed to trust them too easily over her long time friends. I won't buy the next part. Only 3 of 5 are available on Kindle anyway.

Good read

The story was good and I loved that it takes place in Texas ( my home state ). My only complaint is that it was to short and that it just ends abruptly. Anxiously waiting for part two and see what happens to them.

Enjoyable but cliffhanger

This is an enjoyable cyborg, zombie short story with a cliffhanger so you will buy the series. As much as I enjoyed the story, I would rather it have been a complete story without having to get it in installments. That ruined it for me.

Didn't realise this was going to be another serial, each part released every three weeks!
Liked the set-up for the beginning. Emma is a great character and Jack and Max are interesting too.
