Ein überdramatisches Familienschicksal in Neuseeland
Der fünfjährige Finn stürzt mitten in der Nacht über den Balkon seines Elternhauses und muss schwer verletzt mit Schädeltrauma ins Krankenhaus gebracht werden.
Als Leser erfahren wir die ganze Geschichte von seiner Mutter die uns aus der Ich-Perspektive erzählt, was passiert ist.
Die Familie McNamara bestehend aus Eltern 16-jähriger Tochter und den beiden fünfjährigen Zwillingssöhnen war vor wenigen Monaten aus wirtschaftlichen Erwägungen (der Vater war arbeitslos) aus England nach Neuseeland ausgewandert und hat dort ein relativ abgelegenes Anwesen gekauft. Die Familie versucht sich (anscheinend auch erfolgreich) einzuleben, als das Unglück passiert.
Dem Leser wird von Anfang an vermittelt, dass das Kind nicht einfach vom Balkon gefallen ist, sondern dass etwas anderes passiert sein muss. Klar ist, dass die Mutter von heftigen Schuldgefühlen geplagt wird.
Mich hat an dem Buch gestört, dass ich zu keiner der Personen eine Beziehung aufbauen konnte, ich die Mutter sogar richtiggehend als unangenehm empfand.
Die Geschichte war auch einerseits an vielen Stellen übermäßig dramatisch während sich an anderen Stellen wirklich gravierende Situationen wie aus dem Nichts in eitel Sonnenschein auflösten. Ganz besonders der Übergang am Schluss von der katastrophalen Ausgangssituation zu einer perfekten Lösung aller Probleme war wenig überzeugend.
Ich kann auch nicht sagen, dass es große Spannungsbögen gab, da man ja von Anfang an wusste, dass an der Story, die die Mutter erzählt hat, was faul sein musste.
Ich vermute, dass Buch auf die Zielgruppe ChickLit-Leserinnen ausgerichtet ist und daher nicht wirklich in mein Beuteschema fällt.
Aus meiner Sicht würde ich das Buch als lesbar, aber nicht als besondersempfehlenswert bezeichnen.

An overdramatic family fate in New Zealand
Five-year-old Finn falls over the balcony of his parents' house in the middle of the night and has to be taken to the hospital seriously injured with head trauma.
As readers, we get the whole story from his mother who tells us from a first-person perspective what happened.
The McNamara family, consisting of parents, a 16-year-old daughter and two five-year-old twin sons, emigrated from England to New Zealand a few months ago for economic reasons (the father was unemployed) and bought a relatively remote property there. The family tries (apparently successfully) to settle in when the accident happens.
The reader is informed from the start that the child did not just fall from the balcony, but that something else must have happened. It is clear that the mother is plagued by violent feelings of guilt.
What bothered me about the book was that I couldn't develop a relationship with any of the characters, I even found the mother downright unpleasant.
On the one hand, the story was overly dramatic in many places, while in other places really serious situations dissolved out of nowhere into bright sunshine. In particular, the transition at the end from the catastrophic initial situation to a perfect solution to all problems was not very convincing.
I also can't say that there were great arcs of suspense, because you knew from the start that there was something fishy with the story that the mother had told.
I suspect that the book is aimed at the target group of ChickLit readers and therefore does not really fall into my loot scheme.
From my point of view, I would describe the book as readable, but not particularly recommendable.

emotional, schön geschrieben, ich konnte es nicht weglegen. sehr empfehlenswert! sie hat ihre Charaktere so stark beschrieben, dass ich in allen facetten mitfühlen konnte.
