کتاب خوبی بود و ارزش وقت‌گذاشتن داشت. منتها اطناب و تکرار بعضی از مفاهیم کتاب یه جاهایی واقعا خسته‌کننده می‌شد.
ایده‌ی اصلی کتاب دراین باره‌ست که تاریخ شاخه‌ای از ادبیاته. به این معنا که دسترسی واقعی به گذشته وجود نداره و مورخ تاریخ رو از خلال روایت مورخان و نویسندگان گذشته و از دل گفتمان‌های مسلط عصر خودش میفهمه و مینویسه. پس مورخ همواره در حین نوشتن تاریخ، روایتهایی رو به متن تحمیل می‌کنه. بناباراین این کتاب اول از همه ایده "دسترسی به حقیقت" رو به چالش
میکشه وبعد راهکار فیلسوفانی (مثل فوکو و هایدن وایت) که با مواجهه انتقادی، تاریخ‌نگاری مسلط رو زیر سوال بردند، در اختیار خواننده میذاره. برای کسانی که با اندیشه‌های پساساختارگرایانه آشنایی دارند کتاب ساده‌فهم و بینش‌دهنده‌ایه. مترجم هم زحمت کشیده بود. دستش درد نکنه.

Buku ini mengupas perjalanan perubahan kajian sejarah yang dahulunya di abad ke 16-19 dipandang dengan sudut pandang empirisme layaknya ilmu-ilmu sosial yang lain. buku ini sangat menarik untuk dibaca terutama mereka yang ingin memperdalam kajian sejarah, tentang kelebihan dan keunggulan dari konstruksi, rekonstruksi, dan dekonstruksi sejarah. buku ini juga mengupas keterlibatan filsafat dalam merubah arah kajian sejarah.

I found the glossary useful to my studies, otherwise often redundant. On Munslow’s deconstructionist stance, I find it too far to one side. I don’t think it’s fully possible to understand history as just narrative and in doing so, I think it undermines the importance of material evidence and authority of the historian.

After reading this book I understand the effect that postmodernism and more specifically deconstruction has had on the discipline of history. Munslow raises and attempts to answer some important questions regarding history. Can we truly know the past through narrative history? He breaks historians down into three basic camps Reconstructionist, Constructionist and Deconstructionist. He fully explains the methodology behind each camp and comes to the conclusion deconstruction may be the best way to approach history. The book is well organized and is sure to help anyone stuck when it comes to the philosophy of history.
