Former police officer, Maeve Morgan prepares to visit the distillery she has inherited when she became a countess. Fiona, Robbie and Maeve make their way to the distillery only to find out an employee has died in a vat of whiskey. Using her skills from her police detective days, Maeve and her accomplices, Fiona and Robbie, start investigating the crime. It appears that there are several unusual things going on at the distillery that Maeve was unaware of prior to her visit. Several twists and turns in this mystery. Definitely an interesting read, hard to put down. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Having nothing to do, Maeve decides that she should visit her distillery, taking Fiona with her. She’s told she will almost definitely need to stay overnight so cases are packed. As they are leaving Robbie flies in and joins them. As they arrive they hear a shout. Someone has been found in a vat, murdered. When the vat is emptied there are more human remains found! Turns out it is not a vat used for the whisky! The D.I. collapses so Maeve appoints herself sergeant and Fiona, Robbie & Roskill (her chauffeur) as special policemen. They have to stay at a very grotty hotel with dreadful service, but, on investigation Maeve finds out why! Once again a fun, but, riveting story.
I have enjoyed this series since the first book. The way the characters have come together to work on solving mysteries is reminiscent of the Lady Darriby series. Each one has their unique talent. I like the way that Maeve is very independent for the time frame. There is a lot of heart in this book in the way the main characters look out for each other. I loved the "fraud" scheme in the book and the way Maeve was able to solve some issues she didn't know existed prior to visiting this area. This can be read as a standalone.
This is a fun read about a woman who was sergeant in the UK police force for eight years and then inherited vast tracts of land and a Scottish castle to become a countess in Scotland. In this adventure, she visited a Scottish Whiskey distillery she owned only to find the manger she was supposed to meet murdered. Next they found evidence of theft from the distillery as well as a murder committed. To see how this all transpired and how matters were resolved, you need to read the story. It is well worth your time and trouble.
An entertaining tale as Maeve, Fiona and Robbie visit Maeve's whiskey distillery. Alas, the visit does not go as planned and the trio are now faced with aiding in a murder investigation. Clever, well-written story that I thoroughly enjoyed and can easily recommend.
I read this book as part of an advance reader team. I am voluntarily writing this review.
Maeve must now handle a visit to the distillery. But what she thought was a simple trip terns into murder when one of the employees is found floating in a vast of whiskey. What did the employee witness to cause his demise? Being an aristocrat is a deadly job for Maeve.
