"Hot diggety!" said Biggety. "Supper for sea turtle, but. . . . . . what about me?"
Biggety Bat is hungry -- and looking for his supper. The swamp he explores is full of animals chowing down: frogs, cuckoo birds, sea turtles, and more.
But what will Biggety find to eat?
Author Ann Ingalls blends lyrical text with real-life information about a Florida mangrove swamp. Readers will love discovering the eating habits of the animals who live in this unique habitat.
Neo led the charge on this one and helped take me into the world of Biggety Bat. On a hot day in the mangrove trees, Biggety is flying around and trying to identify all the sounds he hears. Each one is a friend of his eating a mid-day meal. Alas, none of these delicacies appeal to Biggety and he's left a little sad. After numerous letdowns, Biggety comes across a slew of mosquitos. Aha! Now's he's found something and his appetite has been handled. Lucky for him, no one else wants to share! Neo continues to amaze with his reading and I am happy to see him doing so well. I hope he'll keep it up this weekend and show just how wonderful things can be when you get lost in a book.

Biggety obviously doesn't live in the more Northern half of North America. He meets Cockoos, Alligators, Turtles, Frogs and Spoonbills all having their dinner while he flies in search of his own dinner, mosquitoes. I think that covers the larger words.
Has great Ryme and repetition so children can gain confidence as they go. After all, once you get Biggety it's not a far leap to Diggety!
Great kids' book for early readers! Introduces kids to new forms of wildlife and certain foods that different kinds of animals eat. Informative portion at end of book that included facts about mangrove swamps and lists animals found in them.
