The Rejected Omega

Rate this book
I hated Connor Masters as much as it was possible to hate someone.

I hate the smiles he so seldom gives. The carefully uncareful swoop of his hair. The soft tone of voice he uses on the select few he cares about. The stretch of his shoulders beneath his shirts, broader every year.

I hate him because it makes loving him easier.

I hate him because he doesn't know I'm his.

He should know. Even through the suppressants that give me horrible migraines, even beneath long sleeves and leggings that keep my irritated mating gland and injection bruises hidden. We've been drawn to each other since we were children. He should know.

But he barely looks at me these days.

He looks at her.

Will he be forgiven?

Yes, and without much fuss or angst. Another instance of all buildup no resolution.
The whole book was pointless. What was the point of the 3 year gap if he gets forgiven instantly? What was the point of the OW if we get no resolution; did she go back home, did he ever love her? They were together 3 years and the main reason the fmc ran but then.... nothing. What was the point of her taking extra suppressants if she just willingly gets further and further in contact with him.
I read second chance stories for the grovel, for the angst, for the push and pull of him trying to win her back. This had none of that, he did no work and shel fell into his arms. The Big Question (why didn't he pursue her in hs) was very unsatisfying (bc he loved her so much he didn't want to leave her when he found his omega and ofc he never thought of it as her and ofc it's not the same as him having a 3 year long relationship somehow)
Idk, I guess its a mark of good writing that I got invested enough to be c annoyed at the lack of payout.
I just reeeeaaaalllly wanted to read about him almost losing her and winning her back and instead I read about her giving in at every turn. I feel ripped off.
Seriously, she incurred possible permanent damage to her body from suppressant abuse and stayed a virgin the whole time (bc of cooourse she did) and he had a longtime gf the whole time.

3.5 ⭐'s

I liked this one. It’s not (IMO) a true rejected mate scenario because the alpha doesn’t know he’s her mate, so he doesn’t technically reject her, but it still has some good angsty/drama feels because the h is devastated by his decisions.

The blurb is a little vague, so I’m going to give the main conflict (we get it in the first chapter), but please stop if you want ZERO details.

Alanna and Connor have been BFFs since they were kids. The book opens with her arriving at a matching ceremony that Connor promised he’d meet her at. She scent matches to his shirt which starts a bond and throws her into heat, but he doesn’t show. She texts and calls him repeatedly, but he never answers and finally sends her a text that he decided not to come because his beta girlfriend was upset, and they decided to explore things. Things go REALLY badly for Alanna, and she shuts Connor out then there’s a 3-yr time jump.

The beginning was great, the middle lost some steam, but it ended pretty strong.

Bottom Line- This wasn’t super dramatic, Connor wasn’t awful. He had his reasons for what he did, and Alanna had her reasons for not telling him. He wasn’t cruel, and Cassandra the beta (is barely around) didn’t come off as mean or nasty. Still, I couldn’t put it down and stayed up late. My only grump and what kept this from being rated higher was I needed more resolution. The OW part was just dropped, and it really needed to be fleshed out. First, she literally disappeared from the book after a pivotal scene, and it felt unresolved. Secondly, after Alana had so much insecurity from his choices and history with Cassandra, I felt it warranted a discussion… or more of a discussion.

Despite not being a strictly rejected mate story (it's hard to reject when you don't even know it) I loved it. I felt the pain and the angst and though it isn't lengthy it's as enough as it should be. Maybe a little bit more grovel would be welcome.

Connor/alpha and Lana/omegahave been bffs since they were children. Now they are 18 and about to graduate HS. Connor Has been hooking up with betas since when. He’s now dating Cassandra/beta. When the yearly sniff a tee shirt/find your mate ceremony happens Connor is supposed to Be there to support Lana but is a no show. Suddenly Lana Who was just with Connor just a few hours ago gets a whiff of the tee shirt he had on earlier and realizes he’s her mate. This part didn’t make sense to me since they have basically been together constantly. Anyways since he didn’t show up To the ceremony cause Cassandra didn’t want him to. Lana calls and texts him
A million times. She’s in serious trouble with this first heat so she runs off into the woods to die but she doesn’t because Connors dad rescues her. Was anyone else thinking this should have been an age gap Daddy kink book? Matt had it going on… oh well. So off to the ER she goes. She makes Daddy Matt promise not to tell Connor she’s his mate. So Lana takes a bunch of suppressants and finishes high school and then off to college Connor goes…. One thing — Connor is a bland H and reads more beta… I mean he can’t sniff out his life bonded mate for nothing. He needs to take a lesson from Alpha Shepherd in Born to be Bound. He can sniff out his Omega in the first chapter. It takes this guy the whole book to figure it out and about 3.5 years . Connor returns home from college after 3 years. Cassandra the vague ow is still around but they are taking a break. He wants to get his bestie back so he sets it up for Lana to tutor him. Meanwhile Lana has been dosing mega Omega suppressants for 3 years. Eventually her drugs run out and she starts to smell like teen spirit but Connor still can’t quite make the connection. Then all of a sudden he does and becomes all bdsm and exhibitionist. I’m sorry this didn’t fit with his laid back beta style/alpha personality. I guess I stayed invested til
The end so 3 stars… but whatever happened to Cassandra the nice low angst inspiring ow?

First, I did feel that the pain Lana went through felt real. The writing sucked me in and I thought only good things were to come. It was also a quick read, but I don’t know if that worked in the story’s favor or not. I needed Connor’s POV because I wanted that boy to suffer after what he put her through knowing now that she was his mate. I didn’t feel like the reaction from him was that satisfying. Then it really lost me when they decide to get it on to help with her heat and he springs his “coke can” sized d*ck on her. Girl should have caught the next flight out of town when the true monster of this book appeared.

So this was really good 😊❤️. Friends to not friends to lovers. I don’t think I’ve seen this take on omegaverse before without it being part of a story where there as a pack. Well written characters too.

I will definitely read more from this author.

Ok so this was entertaining, but it had its issues. First of all, I think the FMC creates most of her problems. A lot of this could have been solved with communication and effort. This groveling is also so piss-poor and bad. If you’re Redding this hoping for a good grovel, you’re going to be severely dissatisfied. This man says “Sorry 🤷‍♀️” and all is forgiven basically. I wanted more build up and more groveling, and I was disappointed when none was given.

I honestly wish the MMC’s dad was the love interest because he’s so much better in all ways. He’s level headed, kind, and takes care of the FMC when this MMC didn’t. Also, I do want to note, if descriptions of bodily fluids and excessive cum (cannot believe i just typed that out) grosses you out or discomforts you, don’t read this. There’s a lot of cum and “slick”, and it’s often eaten and rubbed into the MC’s bodies.

Now anyways, I enjoyed this book. It was incredibly entertaining. But it really did have its issues. If I was reading this critically, it’d probably be a 2. But I had a fun time, and that’s hard to come by in a reading slump. So a high 3/low 4 is where I’m going to land on this one, at least for now.

Kitabın Özeti: 😡😭😢😟🥹 (Hiç iyi bişi görmedik)

This book delivers on some good rejected mate angst.

Alana attends a matching ceremony where she matches with her friend Connor. Connor noshows, even though he promised Alana he'd be there, because he's dating Cassandra, a beta. Despite Alana and Connor's father's efforts to reach him, he sends them to voicemail and doesn't reach back out for a few days, leaving Alana to endure her heat alone and landing her in the hospital.

Alana decides to keep the match a secret and takes dangerous levels of suppressants for the next few years while she attends college. Connor goes off to the east coast to attend university with Cassandra. Connor and Alana's friendship ends the night of the ceremony and she refuses to speak with him or see him after that point.

Eventually, Connor transfers back to Alana's university and she ends up tutoring him, and so their match is rekindled.

Connor is the main problem with this book. He's a fundamentally unlikeable character. Not because he's mean, but actually the opposite. I think Connor is unlikeable because he's caring, but it ends up being a false, unreliable caring. Here's why I say this:

It's ironic, because if Connor was just mean and selfish from the start, the expectations for him would be so low, that it would be easier to forgive him. But because he's nice and caring from the start, it's hard to forgive all of the ways he lets Alana down.

Connor sucks.

Appointing myself as chapter president of the “I H8 Connor” club. Because according to him if you love someone you sleep with every person out there except for the one you “love.” And then proceed to show your devotion by parading all the people you slept with in front of the one you “love.” Genuine pity for Lana for being the omega stuck with that alpha-hole. Loved the cover art/photo.

Connor and Lana are Mates, he’s a playboy and she has always been in love with him. His dad presented his smell at the mating ceremony thinking he would be there but he ditched and her heat kicked in. She has to endure it alone and needed lots of hormone drugs to suppress her hormones around him. Their previous bond didn’t help and she was on blockers high dosed for too long. Short but wish there was more character background and building. You don’t find out till the end how he has always felt and I feel like that could have been explored more or in his POV more cause things were weird. His dad is great but also should have just told him or something it was too long.

This book hit the omegaverse spot. It was angsty and emotional. I felt like I was reading a fabulous fan fiction that I would have waited patiently each week for until the author updated. However, this is a completed story and a standalone so I didn’t have to suffer through a million books for a resolution. Things moved quickly and wonderfully.

Lana always loved Connor but he played around. When the mating ceremony happened and he didn’t show up but it was clear she was his mate things spiraled downhill. Lana had to suffer and break her bond to him for three years. The crack that makes this awesome and angsty is that he never finds out he was the mate. He was just a dumbass who was wondering why his friend was sad and sick all of a sudden and she hid it from with drug suppressants. I was giddy like a school girl with all the forced proximity and longing. Connor, the fool, is obsessed with her but can’t figure out why. Oh you fool, you need to grovel now. As always, I want more grovel but this was pretty good.

I was having a reading slump and wasn’t enjoying a very popular book. I realized I needed to shake things up with an indie author and some omegaverse. Loved it. This was quick and perfect for all you fantasy romance people that lived on AO3 or wattpad or the forums back in the day.

This book is trash.

I was hopeful at first because he didn’t do something that was impossible to move past but then the middle and end of the story was infuriating. He never truly suffers, has any consequences, and never offers a proper apology once he understands fully what he’s done.

We don’t see him do anything for her that doesn’t benefit him too. How tf is his gift to her his dick?!? Make that make sense. I hated that she stayed a virgin for him while he slept around. I hated that he was in a long term committed relationship that never got resolved. His reasons for not pursuing her were weak. Him bringing her back to the place of her trauma as a surprise was beyond fucked up. Him getting into a fight with his dad because his dad kept her secret shows he isn’t willing to fully admit fault in what happened and blames others like his dad for “keeping it from him” despite the fact he ignored 10+ phone calls and texts plus skipped out on a very important obligation and then DIDNT NOTICE FOR DAYS!! Idk I’m seriously judging the author if this is “romance”. This man is a piece of shit. I wanted him to suffer at least twice as much as her but is he ever screaming all alone in the woods bleeding from injuries then suffering for years? No of course not. Instead his pick me mate immediately forgives him when he gives her an ounce of attention. Disgusting. The bar is in hell.

This book was included on a list of groveling and angst.

In that area I was really disappointed. The heroine genuinely suffered because her childhood best friend not only didn't show up when he promised, but left his scent for her to attach to without following through. The description of how she suffered went on and on. Then he comes back into her life, years later, finally kind of clues in... and barely suffers to get her back. Dumb.

It feels like someone yanked my heart out of my chest and didn't bother to stitch up the wound.

4.5 stars

This was such a great surprise read, and I loved it so much! I've slowly been getting more into omegaverse books, and I found myself unable to put this one down. I was still a little confused by the biology (mating glands and scent glands), but I loved the drama and irresistible pull between Connor and Lana. They both wanted to be each other's mates so badly but both end up self-sabotaging themselves in the worst way. I loved watching their reconciliation; Connor's determination and possessiveness was brilliant however late. I wished the story was longer so we could have gotten more between them, but overall this was such a great book!🖤

Tropes: rejected mates, childhood friends-to-strangers-to lovers, reluctant alpha, rejected omega, touch her and die, hate-to-love-you, mutual pining, second chance romance, 'it's always been you', miscommunication, some OW drama, slow burn, STEAMY🔥

So I found myself disappointed with how this turned out. It wasn't as angsty and heartbreaking as I thought it would be. His rejection was just stupidity of an immature teenager. 😮‍💨 While it was angsty at that moment because he broke his promise and chose ow over her it didn't keep up the momentum. I was hoping ow would cause problems or tricked the H into not going to the mating ceremony. But nope. Just bad decisions on his part. The h's pettiness started to get to me, yet I wanted her to play with him a little more. Overall started out strong then fizzled out for me. The smut though was smutting. There's loads of saliva and bodily fluids. 🙈 I mean we all know what we're getting into when we read an omega book. 😂

Omegaverse = H in this was not too alpha and was willingly blind to what was in front of him, I wanted more of his perspective and thoughts. h was very strong for an omega and battled against BBS that is ingrained in her designation which was great to read.

Angst = h always had to make herself small for the H which was heartbreaking until she reached her limit and had enough.

h sees H with OW = h has to continually see the H with multiple girlfriends, especially the one he rejects his possible scent match for

Rejected-mate = h attends a function that pairs O/A based upon scent matches. h scent matches with the H's shirt, but H chose not to attend because his (BETA) girlfriend needed him more than his possible scent match!!??!! h continually gets rejected by the H and it is sad until the H finally pulls his head out from his rear.

Really enjoyed this version of A/B/O universe.

Straight up terrible. I absolutely hated this. In general I love rejected mate stories because they typically lead to lots of groveling. Not this one.

This FMC attends a ceremony to help Omegas find their scent matched mates. Her best friend who is an alpha is also supposed to show. Unfortunately, he did leave an item of clothing for omegas to scent but he didn’t actually show because he was busy with his beta girlfriend. When our FMC scents his clothing she’s sent into an immediate heat but her alpha is no where to be seen. She goes through a painful heat alone as a result. But she chooses not to tell him what happens, instead just puts distance between them. That was the first annoying thing that happened. I thought it was ridiculous that even his father kept the secret. Really?!

Then I hated that she’s this suffering virgin while he’s out there drowning in beta pussy. I can’t stand that crap.

Then he shows back up years later and she still refuses to tell him their mates. He eventually figures it out but isn’t very remorseful about the past. He's just like I've always wanted you. Uh what now? You always wanted her so that's why you had a girlfriend all these years?

In fact he still has this beta girlfriend that is basically asking him to put a ring on it or walk away since they've been together for years. He decides to take a "break" with her but keeps her on the back burner while he tries to rekindle his "friendship" with out FMC.

Then he finally discovers that they are mates and he helps her through her heat which was kind of annoying. There was no dramatic groveling or sincere apology. She just lets him help her even though she's been holding this grudge for years.

To make matters worse his beta girlfriend comes waltzing into his apartment the morning after they've been intimate for the first time. She's just super casual and there is no drama at all, besides the fact that it devastates the FMC. This absolute douche canoe of an alpha thinks it's fine to let her in his home after learning about his mate and how he missed her first heat. He is absolutely useless. Then to top it off we never get any sort of resolution with the girlfriend. We have this encounter and then we totally forget about her.

Lastly, I could not believe that this book ends with the MMC bringing the FMC back to the site where she experienced the trauma of the mating ceremony. He reasons that he wants to rewrite the bad memories. Seriously?! It was so f'ed up. He is the most dense alpha there is. He needs to put in way more work before he's trying to bring her back to this place.

Overall, this book sucks. Save yourself and skip it.

This was looking like a 4-star read up until her heat hit, then it just went all downhill. There was no grovel and Connor just really rubbed me the wrong way with how he was acting after his realization. Also, the man needs to learn how to have an adult conversation with people. He def should have talked to Cassandra and had a more mature conversation with his dad and Lana. And Lana absolutely should have stayed angry at him for longer imho

This book was disappointing. There was a great build-up, and I was expecting a long grovel from the H to make up for the way he hurt the H and to win her back. Instead, he bulldozed his way back into her life and she just rolled over and allowed it.

🎶 “You betrayed me. And I know that you'll never feel sorry. For the way I hurt, yeah” 🎶

She has loved Connor Masters all her life and hates him all the more for it. Bound to him by an undeniable pull she hides beneath suppressants and long sleeves, she suffers in silence as he drifts farther away—his rare smiles and quiet tenderness now reserved for someone else. He should know she is his, yet he doesn’t, and every glance he gives another woman drives the truth deeper into her bones: loving him will destroy her.

"Did someone bother you? Touch you? What happened? Mac won’t tell me shit.”

"It's none of your business, Connor."

“Give me a name. I’m going to fucking kill him.”

“I don't understand what's going on, Lana. I know I fucked up, but I can’t lose you. Don't let this ruin things between us."

Connor staying with Cassandra for three more years after not showing up to the bonding ceremony and giving up on his friendship with Alanna was so sad. Alana had to endure years of suppressants just to mute a bond that should have been hers from the start. MY GIRL. I loved her so much 🥹 she deserved the world, and Connor was frustratingly giving mixed signals the entire time. I am still mad that Cassandra showed up in his apartment and he didn’t chase after Alana. Sometimes it felt like she was still second place. But she was so alpha and possessive for her that I ATE IT UP. Honestly, she lowkey deserved his dad 😭 and this is exactly why I read why-choose romances—because his dad was lowkey the better option. He was attentive, he took care of her, he saw her needs and actually met them. HOT. Connor, on the other hand, just gave me a headache.

“Who. Is. He”

“You’re overreacting.”

“Don’t test me right now, Lana. My alpha has the reins.

The scene where she purposefully got scent marked by her friend to make Connor jealous and he completely flipped his shit—YES GIRL GO OFF. That was such a power move by her and it carried the book. From that moment on, he was openly possessive and admitted that he wanted her. He hated the idea of another man on her. She thought it was just his alpha instincts talking, but it turned out he had always wanted her. I am still mad that he thought he was in love with Cassandra in high school, which is why he did not show up to the ceremony. But the truth was even worse. He could not fathom the idea of being matched with someone other than Alana, so he refused to go. Years later, he kept searching for his match but never found one, because Alana never went either. SCREAMS. These two missed core years of their lives and suffered on suppressants, all because of Connor.

— ⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆ OVERALL⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆—

I hate miscommunication more than anything, and this book was full of it. But the jealousy scenes and the angst of wanting each other while not being able to have each other kept it intense enough for me to keep reading.
