It comes as a great shock for Alexis Drake—rock star by day and highly trained secret agent by night—when she returns home to find that her girlfriend, Kasey Cooper, is missing. There are signs of a struggle, and Alex is certain foul play is involved. She immediately contacts her boss, who reluctantly admits that Kasey is a high ranking computer hacker for PLUTO, the same organization which employs Alex.

With the aid of a tracking device she planted long ago, Alex sets off in hot pursuit of Kasey and her kidnappers. Once Kasey is back safely in her arms, however, Alex discovers that her girlfriend knew all along that she was not the only one working for PLUTO. Though Kasey was rescued unharmed and the immediate threat neutralized, the lack of answers about the true motivations of the kidnappers haunts both women.

Afraid that her own carelessness was to blame, Kasey breaks down and blushingly asks Alex if she would help her be more focused with her work, even if that means a long, hard spanking when necessary. Alex agrees, and when Kasey is caught in the act of disobeying the first rule Alex set for her, she bares Kasey’s bottom, puts her over her knee, and spanks her until she is sobbing and truly remorseful.

But with Kasey’s emotions still turbulent from her recent ordeal, it quickly becomes clear that she will need more of Alex’s firm attentions sooner rather than later. Can Alex and Kasey adjust to this new dynamic in their relationship even as they work to keep Kasey safe from the enemies that have targeted her, or will the price of Kasey’s mistakes be too high for their relationship to endure?

Born and raised in Southern California, I swear I'll never leave, even if it falls into the ocean! I live with my two girls, my partner of sixteen years, my mother-in-law, and my dog.
I've been writing for many years, mostly in the fan fiction arena, but I'm best known for my epic, "Blue Eyes, White Horse, and a Chakram," and my short story, "Little Bard." If you'd like to read either they are in the Xena section of FanFiction.net. Because I love writing, I'm also open to feedback and constructive criticism. I do answer e-mail, and I can be reached at Stardawn19@hotmail.com if anyone would like to comment or to get to know me better.
That being said, most of my stories do have a certain "Uberness" too them. I do love Xena, and pretty much anything sci-fi, but recently I've decided to branch out and explore one of my other loves -- spanking novels. I enjoy deep stories which have complex characters, surprise twists, and interesting and new plots ideas. Finding a lack of these types of stories, especially in the Lesbian community, I decided to create my own.

“Paying the Price” presents an interesting storyline. The blurb is quite detailed, so I’ll only very briefly describe the plot here. Unknown to each other, MCs Kasey and Alex both work for the mysterious international spy organization PLUTO (Performers’ League of Underground Trained Operatives). Submissive Kasey asks Alex to help her focus on her work by disciplining her professionally, in addition to their spanking love play.

While the spankings were earned, and hot!, and the shower and other intimate scenes were enjoyable, I just never bought Kasey as a believable character. She’s a super secret agent with connections to PLUTO at the highest levels, her family’s activities with the organization go back hundreds of years, she’s working on the most secret new technologies, she’s got a strong rebellious streak against rules, and yet she’s so submissive I just can’t see her functioning as the high-level agent she is.

Alex is more believable, but also much more cardboardy as a character. The two of them do have a loving, playful relationship, and some of the mysteries of PLUTO are intriguing, but ultimately I wish the story and the characters were more interesting. I enjoyed the spanking scenes that resulted from Kasey’s desire to submit to Alex as her girlfriend more than the disciplinary spankings she kept receiving for disobeying Alex as her co-agent/boss.

It’s a fairly short story, but instead of using Voice Dream I read “Paying the Price” on my iPad in bits and pieces over a two month period between other books. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I’d read it start-to-finish or used Voice Dream, but I just kept losing interest and switching to other books.

There is a sequel to “Paying the Price” (“Famous Last Words”) which I’ll probably read while Kasey, Alex and PLUTO are still fresh in my mind, to see if the story improves now that we’ve been introduced to the characters and PLUTO. 3.2* for “Paying the Price”.
