From the lights of the field, to the curve in the road, one shattered breath leaves friendships and relationships forever altered.
Landon Hayes, an all-star wide receiver, is spiraling out of control after one fateful night that forever changed him. He has one light left in his life but he doesn't believe he deserves it.
Macy Thomas, a college sweetheart, is trying to hold on to the boy who stole her heart. She's stuck on the sidelines watching as he throws his life away. The guilt is forever pulling him into the darkness threatening to take her with it.
When the heartbreaking reality sets in, can they find their light or is the past to dark to help them find their way?
Author's note: Be sure to check out Forever Dark by Chelsea Landon for Cash and Madison's story.
You will see that both stories follow the exact same time frame and include the same group of friends but while you read something in Forever Light you will see some extra interaction in Forever Dark. We don't want our readers to think they are getting the same story twice because they aren't.

This review will be the same for Forever Love #1 seeing as they complement eachother.
I knew from the authors message that I'd have to read both books if I wanted to get the full story, so I did. What I wasn't expecting was to be left hanging with both books. The stories of Landon & Macy and Cash & Madison are incomplete and had I realized this I would not have read them. I am told in both conclusions that there will be another set of books coming to continue their story, but I can't seem to find any information on the plans for those books. Normally, if I REALLY enjoy a series I'd be okay with the wait and the cliffhangers but I can't say I really enjoyed these. I love that these books were raw, the relationships calamitous, but I only liked them at best and I will definitely look into other books by both authors as long as they don't take on this side-by-side style. Endings were given but not supported and I really feel with just those few pieces the stories could have been completed and my rating would not have to suffer.
Initially, I was going for 3 stars, but I'm not so sure now because I feel sort of tricked. Macy was really great. Landon- not so much. I did enjoy the games. I even put the book down at some point and watched recaps of the Ducks vs Longhorns game on YouTube. I mean, I was into it before the letdown.
Note: I read these books together as a series, so the review is written with both books mentioned.
This series just completely broke me. I knew it was going to be a rough ride, but I am not sure I was prepared to fully live through it several times. What these two authors did separately and together was amazing. It was heartwarming and touching and it was completely heartbreaking. I haven’t quite recovered from it yet. Somehow these two authors took one truly tragic event and told two completely separate stories so completely entangled, it is hard to tell who wrote which story. But together they have written one of the most beautiful series that has touched my hearts and passed through my hands in a while.
The first story, Forever Dark, begins this set of events that just gripped my heart. I was crying time and time again in this story. But with all the sadness, you just wanted the characters to see the light. Six friends, one night and events that cannot be erased. Events that would forever change each moment for them. It will test them, watch them struggle, and leave them to deal with everything in the only way they know how. This is the story of Cash and Madison. These two were everything to one another. They had their best friends, they had one another, they had it all. Then in the blink of an eye, everything has changed.
Now struggling to get through the day to day that they have given themselves, they are just trying. Cash is hanging on for their story to begin. He wants their love to be given a chance to struggle and survive when it . Madison, Just wants to forget. She was part of the reason the events of the night happened the way they did and she has never dealt with it. Instead turning to the one place she knows she can escape from it all. It is a gripping story of Cash hanging on to a love he knows can last forever and Madison holding on to an escape from it all.
This book takes a hard look at what drugs can do to someone. They may seem to help with the pain, but when they take over your life and cause so much pain for everyone involved, you just hope she finds her way out of the darkness that has consumed her. It is heartbreaking and moving, but more than that, it was a tough look at the long road back to “normal.” It was admitting that Madison had a problem, it was helping her find her way out.
My heart hurt over and over again for Madison, for Cash and for the love that was slipping by them. Is it possible for them to find their way out of this and let a new life begin? Or have they lost Madison forever?
When I hit the second book in the series, I thought I had it held together. OF course, that was false hope. There is no way you can come back from a tragedy that just shook everything up in these character’s lives. Even after the three years that they have all been struggling, there is one thing, or person, that none of them will forget.
This is Landon and Macy’s story. Though all of the characters are interwoven so tightly from their small hometown and the tragedy of that one night, they have all dealt with it so completely differently. Landon turned to Madison. He wasn’t looking for comfort, but he understood what she was going through. To feel the force of guilt is hard to face alone, but that guilt is felt from Landon stronger than any other. But instead of turning to the woman he loves, Macy, he finds himself connecting with Madison.
Macy is trying to find the strength to be everything to Landon but finds it so hard when he is looking to any thing or any one other than her. She is breaking inside but the force of guilt is all consuming and has taken over Landon’s life. He has never forgiven himself for the events of that night and he has never asked for forgiveness from those that were most affected.
As I said at the beginning of this review, this book broke me. It tore my heart to pieces over and over again. And the one that lost his life that night is also the only one that can bring them back together. But is it too late?
My heart hurt for a good portion of both of these books, but together these books were so incredibly powerful A harsh look at reality in the eyes of those effected the most. I loved this series.
Now… here was my big (minor) issue with the second book (and it is really small)… I know it happens, but I struggled each time a secondary character’s name was mentioned. It actually made me cringe a little each time Declan Collins name was brought up. It was a hard point for me to get beyond because Declan Collins in my world is a tatted singer in one of my favorite series, by a different author. Not a football player. It is a little thing, but because it was in one of my all time favorite books, I did find myself struggling a bit. Did it ruin the book for me? No. There was so much more going on and such bigger issues to deal with that I didn’t factor it into my rating at all. It was just a sticking point for me. But everything else that happened, quickly made it easy to get over. It is a small thing in the events of such tragedy and heartache, but it did catch me off guard.
Overall I absolutely love these books. This is a unique way to write a series and it worked very well for these authors. I cried a lot and I felt a lot deep down for all of these characters. It is a hard series to read because the content is powerful. But it is told in such an amazing way, that you just can’t stop reading because you have to know what happens to these characters. Five tearful and touching stars!
Forever Light is a book that is written by Megan Smith and it coincides with the book Forever Dark written by Chelsea Landon. It runs along the same time period but is seen through the eyes of Landon, Cash's best friend in high school, and now playing college football with Cash, and Macy, the twin sister of Madison whose story is told along with Cash's in Forever Dark. These books tell the same story, but two different authors write them and so what you see in the story may be the same, however written by two different authors gives the story more depth and a deeper meaning.
This book is the story of Macy, and Landon, and takes place from the time a tragedy occurs in their senior year in high school and for 3 years while they still all attend the same college. After their friend Steven dies in a horrific crash on the way to Steven's parents beach house where they are going to celebrate winning the state championship in football, they get in a head on collision with another car that came around the corner on the highway with his brights on and Steven can't see, added to that Madison and Landon have been partying in the car and hanging out the sunroof window and drinking and smoking pot, they do not realize what is happening and Madison falls into Steven while he is driving and Landon drops a lit joint down Steven's back so they are all over the place and crash. The way the authors' describe this event makes you feel like you are actually there yourself, and feel the devastation they do, and while waiting for help to arrive, they watch their friend die, and Alexa is screaming "don't leave me". It is obvious, they will all never be the same again.
This story continues their 3 years in college and how this death affects all of them and how it keeps them from "living". Add to this that four month after the crash and during senior prom they are still upset and Madison and Landon leave the room and wind up in a broom closet smoking pot, the are drunk and are right in the act of getting ready to have sex, and Alexa opens the door, sees them, and runs away and Cash and Macy come running back and see what has gone on. This is the straw that breaks the camel's back. Macy tells her twin sister Madison she never wants to speak to her again, and Cash and Landon are no longer able to stand the sight of each other after Landon crosses the line like that with Madison.
Landon still plays football but does not really care, and does not do the best he can do, which is another source of animosity between he and Cash, and Madison has turned to drugs and slowly gets herself wrapped up in the hard stuff, and has to let herself be used to get what she needs. Cash acts blind to this situation, and it is so awful to see this.
Macy, while not forgiving her sister, hangs in there trying to keep Landon from going off the deep end at cost to herself, and Landon resents her for it, as he knows she is his only light, but he just does not allow himself up out of his alcohol and pot stupor very often. Things are rough for Cash as well, as even though he does not acknowledge Madison as his girl, every morning around 4 am on most days he still texts her and goes to her room and they have meaningless sex, and he gets up and leaves her there alone falling apart day after day, year after year for 3 years. Madison feels she deserves to be treated this way because she is messed up. Cash just can't make himself leave her alone. In his own way, he hangs on to her because he does not want to give up on her, but he ignores what she is doing, and how badly she needs help to come back to the light.
It takes a desperate act by one of them to cause all of them to run home, and there is where things will change again for these 5 people. Add to that that Landon is no longer allowed to play football that puts the nail in his proverbial coffin, what is he going to do?
1 Can Landon and Macy ever have a normal relationship? 2 Can Madison and Cash ever have a hope of saving their relationship? 3 Will Landon and Cash ever be true friends again? 4 Will Madison and Macy be able to break their 3 year silence? 5 Will Alexis be able to start living again?
You will have to read this book and find out, also there is one other book to come out soon, but I just have to say these two books while the same, were also different in the way they were written to make a wonderful set of books to read and I hope that after the next book comes out, that these authors both put out more books, because they are both really talented and have a way of making you "feel" what you are reading.
I gave this book 5***** stars and can't wait to read the next book to see if these 5 young adults can have a happily ever after, and to see if they can come out of the dark into the light.
I read this when it was part of the series , Forever Dark/Forever Light. Such a heartbreaking story of the struggles to heal after facing a loss so great. Easy to connect to these characters , going back to those years and knowing the ways I would have dealt with these issues as well made it seem so real and raw.
Forever Light follows Macy and Landon. They are in love and happy a few years into their relationship. Again we get the story of the 6 friends at the end of high school through years of college. Macy and Madison are twin sisters with a best friend Alexa and Steven , Cash and Landon have all been friends since childhood. This book follows the same timeline as Forever Dark by Chelsea Landon. Again we see the road to the championship game through Macy and Landon's eyes and have to re-live that horrible night over again. I swear I barely made it through this book. That night is so real and full of emotion. even though I knew it happened it was still a fresh wound seeing it through their eyes now. Being in Landon's head was heartbreaking. He loved Macy so much but just tried so hard to push her away. It didn't matter how hard he tried Macy was not going to let go. I had the same feelings toward Landon as I did Madison. I hated the heartache he suffered but I hated how he dealt with it. There were some harsh words said in this story and Landon really did hit rock bottom. It was sad to see the divide in the friendships and I prayed they would heal. You really get in Macy's head and where she is at with her sister and everything that has happened. This poor girl is really struggling to stay above water and I think she is possibly the strongest of them all. Macy and Landon get some possible life changing news in the midst of their chaos and I was happy to see them choosing the right path and trying to mend. This ends on a bit of a cliffy but there will be more !!
Wow, a really intense read. What happens when a group of high school friends, fooling around in the car, get into an accident and one of them is killed. All of their lives and those around them are changed forever. The boys were star football players and the girls their "forevers" living in a dream world. Well, that dream world came crashing down on them and we do get a glimmer of hope in this book that at least one of the couples might see some light at the end of the dark, dark tunnel.
A teeny, tiny cliffhanger at the end that irritated me because it could have been a little ray of sunshine in a pretty dark book. But, if there is another book I'll probably read it.
I didn't read Book #1, "Forever Dark" but I think I got most of the story in Book #2.
This is the first time I read a book with two authors and all I can say is wow. The way these authors teamed up it felt as hey wrote as one. I would think it would be difficult to find a steady flow, but I was truly mistaken. A story of six teenagers in high school following the aftermath of a tragedy was such a real story that everyone needed to here. Everyone reacts so differently that it was nice to be able to see everyone's pov. One event that changed everyone's lives has to be a struggle no matter what. How do you survive and move on? The story of these six kids takes place over three years and its such qatar tragic story at first, but I guess you have to fall to the deepest low to find the highest high.
You have two stronger characters in the story, cash and macy. They try to hold on to the past and even to the future they both are looking to have. Cash's love for madison is strong, but how much can you hold onto someone that doesn't want to be held onto. Macy loves landon, but the love she thought he had for her can't be found, but when she finds that sliver of hope she holds on. I call these two the hopeless romantics, they want something that was there, but in all this time they have forgotten to grieve also. They want to fix the love ones, but need to fix themselves also. I love these to. Cash is such an independent guy that is trying to live life, but gets sucked in anything madison. He is such a breath of fresh air and you feel his pain throughout this book. Macy, the other half of landon, is so hurt that she has lost her sister and love to drugs and alcohol. She barely holds on, forgiving everything, but not dealing with much. She loves landon and forgives him, but as you read you can tell the loss of her sister has taken a toll. She needs madison, but hurt and hate keep her away. Although these two are not a couple the stories intertwine so much that you feel for them throughout both books. The authors play with you heartstrings and it I'll take so much emotion out you.
We look at madison and landon. They both feel like they are to blame for the tragic loss. They have taken their guilt, their pain, and turned down a horrible path. Drugs and alcohol and do so much to you that there maybe no way back. Since they blamed themselves for this loss, they turn to each other. Their dependency for each other hurt cash and macy on their prom night, and some things just can't be forgotten. Although these two turn down a seriously hard road both of them are hard not to love. Chelsea and megan pour their hearts into these two characters and show you how much pain they actually are going through. Madison is the one that is the most screwed of all them. She loves her sister and you can tell losing her after a stupid mistake was a Stupid mistake, spiraled out of control. With her drug use and what she does for them, made me cry. She is so broken that I really thought she may not be able to survive. Landon, although he was just as effected, blaming himself he takes the same path, destroying lives in their paths. These two with their flaws, haven't learned to live again. It will take the four of them to find their way back to each other and a decision of a lost friend to make them see that they need to changer their ways.
Chelsea and megan put their heads together and wrote these books with such passion that I couldn't pull away. Paths people take, even though they might not be your choices, effect everyone around them. They chose that happens in real life and shows how life changes in a split second and life can't be planned out. These characters are strong and the love and hate they show for each other are incredible.
What's frustrating is the waiting, its a cliff hanger and I hate waiting. Their stories are just good to wait for. Sent from m
I have to admit I wasn't sure if I was going to read this book because I already knew about all of the bad things that happened and that was so difficult to read once and now I was going to reread many of the same parts, ugh. I did enjoy getting to know Macy and Landon more and meeting Stevens family. Even the parts that devastated me in the first book make me cry all over again, it is hard not to because now I read what this tragic accident looked like from Macy's and Landon's POV and it is just as hard to read as the first time. Macy says "One moment changes everything. One day can ruin forever. That one day changed us forever". The story skips ahead three years again. I like that I was learning things I never suspected when I read the first book. I didn't realize how lost Landon was based off the first book and I hate how damaged his relationship with Cash is. This book made me think more about why Cash or Macy did not reach out to Madison and help her, keep her away from Jay, away from all the others that used her, they just sat back and let her self destruct, it just feels like more could have been done. Finally close to the end of the book others are sharing some of the responsibility for not doing anything to help Madison, for once others are trying to understand. I learned from this book how much Macy is hurting, how her and Cash are both barely holding on like the others but they have not turned to drugs to alleviate that hurt. Even though Cash and Landon are not talking Landon is quick to attack someone that attacks Cash "Because he's worth it and that's what matters." Then I am shocked by a confession given by Landon, it is so funny how everyone always thinks they know a person, in the first book certain people have a certain belief about him and here it isn't even true. I still hate reading the part of this book when Macy is angry with Landon and so she flirts and rubs herself against Cash, how is she any different then Madison now? Even after she takes some pills and sees how it can feel and wonders if this is how Madison always feels she still has no empathy for her sister, sometimes I really dislike how Macy acts, how she treats her sister like trash. There is one part where I want to hit Landon right in the face, I cannot believe how he treated Macy when she reached out to him regarding something so important but I think this was a turning point in his life for the better. Even though the reason they went back home was difficult it was the best thing to ever happen to them, I loved this part of the book, I loved reading about Jackie and the advice she had for each and every one of them. Reading about Landon visiting Steven's grave and the two sisters starting to come back together. I could not have been any happier with Landon's father, he really stuck my his son and this gives Landon some hope to hold onto. I am really concerned about what Jay has planned, why he is lurking in the shadows watching Cash. I loved that Landon broke down and shared some of his pain with his teammates hoping to explain some of his actions. Then we are left with a cliffhanger and I really can't tell which way this story is going to go. So it seems there will be another book, please say it starts where this one leaves off, we are not going to have to reread the story from Alexa's POV right lol
Forever Light is the second book in this series, however you do not need to read both to understand it. I do recommend you reading both though, because they each tell the story of two separate couples and how they were coping when their lived changed by one tragic accident.
In Forever Light, you will see the struggles of Landon and Macy. Landon was quite the character, always the party goer. Landon and Madison, Macy's twin blamed themselves for the accident, for the death of their friend. Accidents happen, but the two of them began to self destruct when the guilt from that night began to cripple them.
Landon and Macy were together for years, but after the accident, Landon was never the same. Yes, Landon loved Macy, but their relationship was hanging on by a string. Landon was self destructing and was sabotaging his relationship with Macy. He didn't think he deserved to be loved, and he began to push Macy away. Landon became an addict and would try and mask him pain with drugs and alcohol. He and Madison both blamed themselves for the accident, so the two of them seemed to have a bond that no one else understood. Landon did some things that I myself would not have forgave him for, but Macy did.
Macy truly loved Landon and she knew that he was struggling with the guilt from the accident. No matter how shitty Landon may have treated Macy, she couldn't walk away from him. She knew he was a good person, he was just lost. She was trying to lead him back to the light, to the person who he once was. The only problem was, Landon needed to realize that he needed help.
All of the survivors from that night were trying to cope with the loss of the friend. Cash and Macy not only lost one of the friends that tragic night in the accident, it appeared that they lost Landon and Madison as well. Landon and Madison never stopped to look at it from Cash and Macy's point of view. Macy lost the most that night, she lost a friend, a sister and her boyfriend. Will Landon get his act together before it's too late? Will Macy stand by Landon and help support him along his way to sobriety? Will their love get them through this? Will Landon realize that he deserves a life with happiness, a life without guilt?
Despite some of Landon's mistakes and lack of better judgement, I fell in love with him. I have a soft spot for the cocky athlete. I was routing for him to get his act together, and I could only pray that Macy wouldn't give up on him. The two of them survived that night for a reason, and their friend who lost their life would not want them to continue on the path that they were. Their friend would want them to live life to the fullest. Landon needed to see the light, to leave the dark path that he was on in his past and look for a brighter future. A future with Macy.
I highly recommend reading BOTH Forever Dark and Forever Light. I hope that both authors continue with these stories, I would love to see what the future holds for this group of friends.
Once again I was sucked in and feeling the story, but this time we focused on Landon and Macy. No matter how much Macy takes, or the amount of crap Landon dishes out, I can’t stop loving these two kids. We find out what tore their world and friendships apart in the first book and while each try to find their own way to cope; Landon and Madison make their journey the hardest.
Madison is Macy’s twin sister, Landon is the man Macy loves and Macy is also witnessed what happen and lived through the horror. Landon seeks comfort in drugs and alcohol and sometimes Macy’s twin but no matter what Macy continue to be there and begs him not to leave her. She isn’t weak by any means, she is a strong girl who knows that her love might not be enough to pull Landon out of the dark shadows but she is willing to try. What we do find out is why she can forgive Landon over and over but she hasn’t spoken to her sister in three years. I can’t say how much I admire Macy, I am not sure I would have had her forgiveness and courage if I were in her shoes.
Landon had it all in high school. He has a beautiful girlfriend whom he could see making a future with, a promising football career, full scholarship to college and a best friend in Cash. He saw the pain he was causing in Macy’s eyes every time she came to comfort him; he knew he was breaking her heart. It wasn’t lost on him that his best friend needed him and fought every day to make the ones they lost proud. Landon knew the truth regarding what happen and that fateful night but the whys continued to haunt him and he couldn’t find the courage to face it till one day while in college he realized he was very close to losing it all. His mistakes and the truth of his life had been uncovered and he was going to have to be accountable for his actions. He was going to have to live up to that tattoo he had on his back.
Once again, we see how these two end up after a journey through hell. I am amazed at how this series portrays the realistic outcome from the choices people make. As a mother I see it all the time, teenagers and young adults feel they are invincible, nothing can happen to them but these authors show us that isn’t true. My heart breaks for these kids, I celebrate their victories and I see the goodness in them no matter how bad they mess up. They are young adults who have experienced the worst life has to offer them and they have carried the would have, should have, could have guilt with them for three years while trying to move on.
I gave this book four stars and the first book five stars. Both are of excellent quality and highly recommended, but I don’t think book one could ever be outdone because it is there we experience the nightmare with them and we live through the shock. With this book we deal with the aftermath more and the cleaning up of collateral damage caused by bad mistakes. Get your copy of this series, you won’t regret it.
Oaky I went into this story with a smile in my heart and ready to read a love story that would knock my socks off. I got that and so much more!!! Chelsea and Megan, Have given us two books that are so beautifully written that I swear to you I took the emotion with me to work and could not stop thinking of the character that made such a huge impact in my soul. Cash, Landon, Madison, Macy, Alexa and Steven brought me such highs and lows in the emotional roller coaster of a journey to forgiveness. Survivors remorse can tear you up if you let it and these characters show us how it can make you both stronger and weaker if you don't find a way to accept. How do you choose which characters you love in this book? I mean they are all so compelling that you can't help but Love cash and his strength and honor and willingness to forgive and live. Madison, so broken clinging to the one thing that brings her light,Cash. You can't help but love how Macy sees the good in Landon accepting him for who he is no matter what he does to push her away. Landon yes, Landon's refusal to open up, instead to hide, even from the one person he loves the most because he feels she deserves more than what he is. Alexa lost, so lost because the tragedy affects her the most, but she tries in the end to mend the hearts around her showing forgiveness and love. let us not forget Steven, the one that is the glue that held them together and the one they strive to make proud in the end. Yes this book is beautiful because it is filled with hearts that are so broken and love so strong that you can't not feel it reaching out to you from the words on the pages. I felt it. I feel it now reliving the stories of these characters as I write this review, applauding the authors for writing it, so that we can all see what forgiveness and true love really is. So that we can see how strong the bonds of friendship really should be. To see how love even young love can grow and be the saving grace of those that are broken and in need. And how six friends learned that they are better when they are in each others lives. I can not tell you how happy I am that I got to read this amazing book. I can't wait to read more about Cash & Madison, Landon & Macy, And Alexa with her Steven.
Forever light is book #2 in the forever heart series. This book is written by Megan Smith I'm a massive fan of her books so I was super excited to be given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Forever Light is Landon and Macy's story, it's told over the same time scale as forever dark and it basically fills in the gaps about Landon and Macy's relationship and expands on what we learn in Forever Light.
I loved Landon he's a really complex character and we see a much deeper side of him than he appears in the first book.
I’m not entirely convinced about Macy she is sweet but I just didn't find that I engaged with her character as much as I expected to.
Forever Light is much like the title suggests a much lighter more typical romance story. Landon and Macy feel much younger and more juvenile than Cash and Madison and the story is much more conventional college romance.
I felt for Landon he was in a vicious downward spiral fuelled by guilt and depression. He was a total dick to Macy I'm surprised she didn't dump his ass but I suppose that's what happens when u love someone that much, you can forgive them almost anything!!
For me this book is missing the intensity of Forever Dark, I felt like I knew everything was going to be ok in this book.
This book doesn't have a real HEA but it's left with a definite sense of hope for the future,
I didn't realise that there was a third book planned in this series so I can't wait for that to come out to find out what happens for the two couples.
I liked this book it's a completely different kettle of fish to Forever Dark and a much lighter easier read 4 stars.
This was a really great book. One night will alter a group of friends' lives forever. Landon, Cash, and Steven are the star football players on their high school team. Their group consists of also their girlfriends - Macy, Madison, and Alexa. Macy and Madison are identical twin sisters but personality wise they are very much different. One night after a wonderful win, this group heads to the beach to celebrate and some celebrate more on the way there. Their car hits another car and Steven is killed and no one is the same. Landon and Madison both have such heavy guilt from the situation that they turn to alcohol and drugs to try to numb the pain. Cash and Macy feel guilt as well but they just try to hold on to the ones they love so much that they sometimes turn a blind eye to the pain and the situation. Alexa is pretty much lost since the love of her life is dead.
Landon has so much guilt and regret that he does everything he can to block it out. He knows his life keeps going to shit but he can't stop himself. He loves Macy but he thinks she is better off without him but he doesn't have the strength to cut her out of his life.
Macy has guilt and regrets as well but she deals with it in other ways. She has a tendency to turn a blind eye when it comes to Landon. She loves him and knows he's the love of her life but she doesn't know how to save him or help him. He hurts her continually but she doesn't have the strength to walk away from him.
This book is definitely worth reading. I'm looking forward to the next book to see what happens next.
I'm just not sure how to rate this series....I struggled through Forever Dark to the point that I did more scanning than reading. Then when I read the Bonus scene, things didn't get any better because according to the event dates the prom event took place before the life changing event...what?! Then I read Forever Light and tried to be a little more opened minded that Cash was trying to save Madison and Macy was trying to save Landon. However, the the more I read it seemed like the couples should have traded because it seemed like every other page Landon and Madison were just checking one more time to see if they were attracted to each and wanted to keep pushing the envelope. And Landon's blatant nonchalance about his interest in Madison turned my stomach. I know they were both struggling with guilt but Landon just seems to be disappointed that it didn't click with his girlfriend's twin sister. I felt more connected to Cash and Macy. Cash and Macy were true friends to each other and their near hooking up scene was perfect to the point I was rooting for them to hookup. I laughed through that whole situation, but it was also an honest moment for Macy.
In a nutshell I think I was just expecting more depth considering the beginning of each book was written so heartbreaking that you felt you were there with them when the life changing event took place. Then it just seemed repetitive in the middle and then managed to improve somewhat at the end.
I was given Forever Light for an honest review. This is the 2nd book in the Forever Love Series. Both books cover just about the same details & is on the same time frame so I think you can read one without the other. This is why I took off a star. I felt like book 2 was much of the same as book 1! Same time period, same events, much of the characters except this one is Landon & Macy's story.
Landon is a good guy deep down! We learn that he likes to party early on. Because of the tragedy, he falls even farther into a slump once they get to college much like Madison, Macy's twin sister. There is something caring & sensitive about his character! He's a bit immature but I think by the end, he's grown up a lot.
Macy is the "goody goody" twin. She's the more practical & reasonable of the sisters also! Macy & Landon are nothing a like but I guess that's why they are attracted, right?
I have to say that I was disappointed that the book was the same time period as Forever Dark. I would have LOVED for book 2 to pick up where book 1 left off & see where they went after they decided to basically "start all over" & have a "redo" on life & relationships! I hope there's a book that does this because I'm anxious to see where they are & if Landon & Madison got clean.
I received the book from the author for an honest review.
This was the second book in the Forever Love series. For some reason this one didn't grab my attention like the first. It is the same story just from different POV's, maybe the reason it didn't. It felt like big parts of the book was repeats of the first, and I understand the reasoning behind it, but it didn't excite me. The same heartache and substance abuse problems that Madison and Cash had to face. Three years after the accident that cost their dear friend's life they struggled to cope with the guilt, rejection and forgiveness. Some made stupid mistakes, in so doing they created more pain for themselves and their loved ones. Macy and Landon were part of the tragedy that caused the whole group to derail completely; the emotional path of these young people was touching the heart. The sex is just that sex as a means to a release. The cursing another form of blowing of steam, and although their story was captivating it didn't held my attention as the first. That doesn't take anything away from the writing of the author. I think this is a wonderful series that really gets the message out about self destruction and the effect it has on your loved ones.
This is book 2 in this series and continues with the effects of that one night but focuses more on Landon and Macy.
London feels he owns or at the very least shares the responsibility of the blame for the accident. He has turned to numbing his feelings with alcohol and drugs but does appear to have some handle on it. However his actions have more consequences than he bargains for. Macy is certain that he is spending time with other women, his field time lacks focus and determination, his school work is failing. Can he pull it all together before it is too late?
Macy is the quite reserved twin who just wants life back to the way it was but that seems impossible. How can it with one friend gone forever, she hasn't spoke to Madison in years, Cash is still there but things are strained, and she is certain Landing is slowly slipping away for good.
Can they possibly turn things around and get back some sort of semblance of the life they once had?
Megan fills in the blanks very well while sharing Landon and Macy. Pulling at your heart strings the entire time. Tragedy causes a domino effect depending on how we handle things.
I'm torn between 3 & 4 stars on this book. I know I'm a Meagan Smith fan, I love her books so I hope that my love for her didn't bias my feelings on this book. This story revolves around Landon & Macy. To me it just seemed shorter and I felt like I was more into the characters. I know we already knew a lot about the characters just from the first book but this book just seemed better to me. I didn't feel like I was reading the same thing over and over. I got a little more into it than I did the first. I expected more crossover scenes and was surprised there wasn't. It actually gave us more on all 4 characters. The issues with Landon and Madison are similar but there was just something different about this book. I can't really put my finger on it. Even as I was reading it, knowing I write reviews on everything I read I couldn't exactly point out what was different just that I liked it more. I don't want to give to much away so I'm not going to keep going but like the first book this one just ends and leaves you wondering what's going to happen next. I don't know if a sequel is planned but with the way this book ended I really hope so.
How can you find the light when you feel you have created the darkest place in life and ruined everything and everyone's future in one single night that should have been the best night of your life before heading to college to make better and more memories with these same people. This story had me so heart broken as the depth of there pain of this event changed them. At times not even the deepest love they had for each other was enough to move them towards the light and out of the darkness. The characters in this book were written so well that you can feel every emotion that they are struggling with and during the happy moments they make you smile. As in the forever dark book these characters came to life quickly and captivate you to keep turning the pages to know more and hope you can see them come full circle to find some light in the darkness.getting to know Landon in this book makes my heart hurt and melt all in the same moments of learning his history and how he struggles to cope while in college
Gut wrenching, soulful, inspiring … Madison, Cash, Landon, Macy, Steve and Alexa have been friends forever and as high school ends and the thoughts of going away to college together are emerging, the unthinkable happens. A tragedy that shakes everyone's foundation. This is the story of how Macy and Landon cope and deal with the fallout. Landon pushes the people he feels he let down away from him. He stays connected to Macy but not the way he really should as her boyfriend. Even as football is part of his focus, he struggles with his classes and uses pot to escape his pain. This combines to really push his future off track. Will he be able to get back on track? Will he let Macy back in? Macy appears to be fine but she struggles just like Landon does but she has a more positive way to deal with her pain. She struggles watching those she loves slip away from her. When she is faced with a new crisis, will she be able to forgive Landon? Will she be able to forgive Madison and move on? An amazing journey for 4 friends that is beautifully and honestly told.
Megan Smith grabs your attention and pulls at your heartstrings with Forever Light. Whether it be friendship between friends, lovers, or family, Smith tell us the story of friendship that has long since lost its way. Its a story of survival, of guilt, of unconditional love and even forgiveness.
From the moment I met Macy and Landon in Forever Light I was intrigued by their relationship. Strong yet fragile, beautiful Macy and tortured soul Landon were terrible for each other, yet meant for each other. Smith filled her story with angst, emotion, and hope engaging me until the very end.
Although Forever Light ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, I am excited and look forward to reading what is in story for this group of friends. Will Landon clean up his act? Will Macy believe in her strength? Will Cash and Madison work past their own tortured relationship and lastly, can Alexa heal and find her own love again? Hopefully Smith will give me answers to my questions soon as I await to hear more about these characters and their journey to live forever in light.
wow I never knew a book could have this many emotions.
this is book 2 in the forever love series...this is landon and Macy's story.
this is anther pov of these kids emotional journey..the book does not repeat it has the same scene just different pov of view but it's not like reading the same thing from the first book if that make sense..
Macy's caring all her friend plus her emotions on her shoulders.
landon turned to other things to help grieve just like Macy's twin Madison..landon an Madison put Macy thru hell an back with them having a hard time dealing with there grieving..the question is...is Macy strongest enough to get landon to see the light again?? or is he forever lost in the dark??
This is Landon Hayes and Megan Thomas story in these group of friends.
Landon is an All Star wide receiver who is spiraling out of control from that one fateful night. His Volatile behavior and living the high life in college keeping Madison in a roller coaster relationship. Madison is the twin sister of Madison but she is more the quiet type and is afraid to let her true self emerge.
While these two try to sort out their relationship, they deal with things in different ways. Can these two admit what they have with each other?
Love never comes easy nor when force with unexpected events occurs.
This novel drew me in. It was definitely a page turner -- and one I could not put down.
But, I can't believe the characters. That Macy kept going back to Landon. Landon knew exactly what he was doing. He just didn't wake up from it in time. Yet Macy... Macy oh Macy. The characters are quite interesting, all of them, but I didnt feel the connection between Landon and Macy. Then, I got left with a to be continued. I thought this was a single novel. I think I just had high expectations for this.
I absolutely loved both these books! I really like how they follow both couples but each book you find out more information and look at the situations in a different view of each character. There are some harsh realities these young adults are faced with but they deal with them the only way they know how and I love that the author did not hold anything back! I would defiantly recommend this series. Great book!!
I read this after reading Forever Dark and have really liked getting to know these characters in this series. I wished it wasn't a cliffhanger in both books but I am ready to read the next installments. Macy and Landon's story was heartbreaking in a different way, but still from the same tragedy that's changed all four of these lives forever. I can't wait for the conclusion.
I like the overall story, but the writing was pretty choppy at times. Having read the other book first I knew the story but I still felt something was missing. Lack of real emotion or something. Still glad I row the two books though.
